"But I'm sure he's glued to his television somewhere watching. He told me before he left to go out and win it for him. He got me into this, not for the triathlon, but just to get outdoors."   Likewise, Carrie Lester, 40, won the women's race in a record time of 8 hours, 54 minutes and 51 seconds.   For Lester, who has now won eight Ironman triathlons, it was a bit of challenge just to get to the starting line.   "I'm 40 and had a career-best year in 2019 before COVID hit," said the Australian-born Lester, who lives in San Diego. "I had good momentum going into 2020 and obviously things changed. I really kind of felt lost, and wondered if I wanted to continue. Each year, it gets harder and harder as you get older. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get to that level again. To be able to do, with the support of my husband, Scott, to be able to put out a performance like that, it was unbelievable."   Winners of the men's and women's races each received $15,000, with $9,000 for second and $7,000 for third. Only the top 10 male and female finishers received money from the $100,000 purse.   Long won in his previous appearance in Coeur d'Alene, finishing as the high amateur in 2015.   "I definitely went a lot faster today," Long said. "I had the same process and mindset. I've just dedicated my life to this in the last six years. I really aligned my priorities, commitments and just focused on racing. I live with my parents in Colorado and it's really gotten me closer to home and the things that are most important to me."   Temperatures reached 101 degrees on Sunday, with the temperature of the pavement measured at 133 degrees before the men's finish.     Bill & Rich's Excellent [Endurance] Adventure Bill Lake to Lake Saturday Rich Boulder Sunrise Race Report Pikes Peak     Video of the Week: PTO launched Beyond Human - Episode One.   Fan with sign causes huge pile-up in Stage 1 of the Tour de France | Cycling on NBCSports       Upcoming Interviews Bob Seebohar to help us understand how to use metabolic testing to put together a race pacing and nutrition plan     Closing: Thanks again for listening in this week.  Please be sure to follow us @303endurance and of course go to iTunes and give us a rating and a comment.  We'd really appreciate it! This Hong Kong-set series was one of the top-rated shows of 1990. Going out on ITV in the first quarter of the year this 13-part cop show was a big hit with audiences including an 18-year-old Andy but it passed Martin by completely. But how does it stand up some 30 years later? Starring Bruce Payne, Ray Lonnen, Robert Taylor, Doreen Chan and Tzi Ma, Yellowthread Street was based on the successful novels by the same name by William Marshall and produced by Ranald Graham who had also created Dempsey and Makepeace. To say Andy is dismayed by how much either his memory has cheated or how badly the series seems to have aged is something of an understatement, While Martin coming to it anew is rightly puzzled that Andy ever held it in high regard. Watching 3 episodes, all available on YouTube, a DVD release never having materialised, Andy & Martin consider where Yorkshire Television's answer to Miami Vice went so badly wrong. Is America Prepared for a Massive Cyber Attack? - The threat of cyber warfare has suddenly become very real, with President Obama signing an executive order mandating development of standards to protect the computer systems that run critical sectors of the economy and directing U.S. defense and intelligence agencies to share classified threat data with those companies. In his State of the Union address, he urged Congress to pass even tougher measures. And cyber warriors will even be eligible for their own combat-related medal soon. The Pentagon has announced it's creating the Distinguished Warfare Medal, the first new medal since the Bronze Star in 1944, to recognize soldiers who excel in cyber and drone attacks. "Terrorists, organized crime, rogue nations - any of them can bring this country to its knees with a handful of tenacious and skilled hackers, and a plan," Martin says. "It's not inconceivable that a terrorist organization could divert millions of dollars from our banks to purchase weapons. Or, they could shut down a whole geographical region." While Martin applauds these initial steps, he says the United States must work quickly to get a real cyber defense system in place. For Your Listening Pleasure for these Lockdown / Stay-At-Home COVID and Variants Times - For all the radio shows available on The 'X' Zone Broadcast Network visit - https://www.spreaker.com/user/xzoneradiotv.Our radio shows archives and programming include: A Different Perspective with Kevin Randle; Alien Cosmic Expo Lecture Series; Alien Worlds Radio Show; America's Soul Doctor with Ken Unger; Back in Control Radio Show with Dr. David Hanscom, MD; Connecting with Coincidence with Dr. Bernard Beitman, MD; Dick Tracy; Dimension X; Exploring Tomorrow Radio Show; Flash Gordon; Imagine More Success Radio Show with Syndee Hendricks and Thomas Hydes; Jet Jungle Radio Show; Journey Into Space; Know the Name with Sharon Lynn Wyeth; Lux Radio Theatre - Classic Old Time Radio; Mission Evolution with Gwilda Wiyaka; Paranormal StakeOut with Larry Lawson; Ray Bradbury - Tales Of The Bizarre; Sci Fi Radio Show; Seek Reality with Roberta Grimes; Space Patrol; Stairway to Heaven with Gwilda Wiyaka; The 'X' Zone Radio Show with Rob McConnell; Two Good To Be True with Justina Marsh and Peter Marsh; and many other! That's The ‘X' Zone Broadcast Network Shows and Archives - https://www.spreaker.com/user/xzoneradiotv

Martin Page had a tough career choice to make. As a semi-pro football player, he could choose soccer and try his luck at the professional level, or as a talented musician with a budding career, he could choose the musical path. Of course, he chose music and he gave it his all. It was a great decision, as a song he wrote and produced with his Q-Feel partner Brian Fairweather called “Dancing In Heaven” became an underground hit on KROQ radio in Los Angeles . This success prompted his move from London to Los Angeles, which opened the door to connections with many of his musical heroes, including Bernie Taupin, Maurice White and so many others. While Martin’s passion for soccer has never waned, music is still his first love and the career choice we’re all glad he chose to follow. Inside MusiCast is pleased to welcome Martin Page.

Martin and Ayesha are both natural savers who have been great about living below their means but lacked a real plan. Their goals are to maximize investments for retirement and finding ways to utilize dividend funds. After stumbling across the ChooseFI podcast, they felt like their financial independence number and retirement seemed obtainable which has helped push them to commit and make even bigger changes. While Martin and Ayesha had a 20-25% savings rate before finding FI, Brad commended them on what a great job they were doing. He also stressed that FI is about living a better life and having the financial security to get you there, not what your savings rate is. Despite the inclination to save, Ayesha always resisted the thought of meticulousness and restrictive budgets. However, she found that she could get behind the idea of focusing on spending on what they truly valued, so they began using Personal Capital as a less obtrusive method of tracking their spending and gaining insight into their habits. Something that Martin and Ayesha place considerable value on are experiences, particularly travel, spending time with friends and family, and being healthy. Instead of getting together at restaurants and spending money on pricey meals out, they began hosting monthly potlucks. Ayesha has found the website Budget Bytes to be incredibly economical when it comes to low-cost recipes and efficient for discovering uses for the ingredients she already has in her refrigerator. It's helped to cut their grocery bill to around $600 per month for their family of 4. Due to quarantine restrictions, Ayesha was out of work for months, which she calls a blessing in disguise. During that free time, they were able to take a deep dive into their spending and immediately saved $500. It also allowed them to slow down and spend more time with family enjoying the outdoors, playing games, and eating all three meals together. Following the time off from work, Ayesha has realized that it does cause her some stress which made her want to buy things. It also strengthened her conviction to reduce her workload within 5 years to perhaps just one day a week so that she can find more joy in the moment. Although Martin enjoyed his two-hour daily commute, working from home during the pandemic has made him more aware of the importance of time. He now strives to make the most of his time and focus on using it in ways that bring him the most value. While their monthly expenses are not constant because life is lumpy, it runs around $3,500 but can go as high as $5,000 a month when home repairs are needed. Martin and Ayesha have a goal of reaching FI in seven years and are looking at exploring several different options to help get them there. With option one, they would withdraw money from an investment account to pay off the mortgage on their home. The money saved on the mortgage payment would then be invested for the next seven years. In option two, they would use their investment account to pay off half of the remaining mortgage and continue to make the monthly mortgage payments which result in a mortgage pay off in seven years. Their third option is to refinance their current mortgage which has 17 years left at 3.3% interest rate to a 15-year loan at 2.6%, but that refinance incurs $7,000 in fees. The payments would remain the same, but the home would be paid off two years earlier. Ayesha likes the idea of not having a mortgage but doesn't want to do it if the numbers don't make sense. However, Martin is okay with a lower net worth if it means they can get rid of their mortgage because he feels they would have more options. Brad admits this is an issue he and many others in the FI community struggle with. With such low-interest rates on mortgages, it's almost always a better option mathematically to keep the money invested, but it doesn't mean it's the right decision for everyone. The psychological aspect needs to be considered. If they would like to pay the mortgage off in seven years, the best thing they can do it to use an amortization calculator and see how much extra they will need to pay each month to have the mortgage paid off in seven years. Martin and Ayesha can then see how that payment fits into their current lifestyle. As a fourth option, Brad pointed out that they can drastically reduce their FI number if they were to pay off their mortgage. With a FI estimate of 1.25 million, using the 4% rule, they would have $4,000 per month. If the mortgage was paid off, they could reduce their monthly expenses by $1,600, and then their FI number is only $750,000. After living through the 2008 housing market crash and not having a plan, and then this most recent market downturn, Martin and Ayesha have realized they may not be as risk-tolerant as they used to believe. Brad suggested having an investor policy statement that they've written down to help them stay the course in times of uncertainty. The biggest takeaway is the being on the path to FI gives you options when you have the freedom and flexibility to create a plan that works to meet your goals and live a better life, even if it isn't always mathematically optimized. It's a common problem to be overwhelmed with all the information we consume about optimizing various aspects of our lives that we end up with analysis paralysis. It's important to remember that we're trying to live better lives. They don't have to perfect or 100% optimized. One final concern Martin and Ayesha have is funding their children's education. Brad admits it may be wishful thinking that the higher education system goes through some sort of dramatic change in the coming years, but he and Laura consider paying $50,000 a year for college to be unpalatable and have stopped putting money into their girls' 529 accounts. Instead, they have tried to normalize the conversation about money in their house and have discussed lower-cost options for college.

Leitrim sporting legend Mickey Martin talks to Breifne about his life and times in and out of the green and gold jersey. Never one to court the limelight, even during his playing days, Mickey was awarded with the Hall of Fame award at the 2019 Leitrim Sports Star Awards in Lough Rynn Castle a few weeks ago. During this conversation, Martin talks about his early days growing up in Carrick on Shannon. Right up to captaining Sheemore Gaels to win the Leitrim Senior Football Championship at 18 years of age in 1974. He also discusses making his first inter county championship appearance on the same day Packie McGarty made his last, the only time the two would grace the same championship stage. While Martin's time in green and gold wouldn't be directly associated with the Connacht Finals of the late 1950's or the joys of 1994 he was the shining light of the lull between those two successes. A replacement all star in 1977, where he filled Pat Spillane's jersey for the actual fixture played in America, he was also selected for the first ever Irish International (Compromise) Rules series against Australia in 1984 where he was deemed to be one of the players of the series, despite having his nose broken in the second game of the series. While major success with Leitrim wasn't to come his way there was Connacht U21 success for the first ever time (1977) and an All Ireland 'B' win (1990) to book end his county career which all came to an end abruptly at the age of 35 in 1991/2 just as the county team's star was on the rise. His club career with St. Mary's followed a similar path with that 1974 success as part of Sheemore Gaels being book ended by the County Championship and Connacht Club Final Appearance with St. Mary's in 1995. Equally adept in other sporting codes Martin discusses his love for sport of all kind and how his Leitrim roots always held firm wherever he found himself in the world.

Fiber optic cables that convey data at high speeds across the globe area is a well-known feature of modern technology. Now, university data scientists have found a unique use for them: monitoring earthquakes.Distributed across Stanford’s telecom infrastructure, the cables have become a seismic array that has already collected data on over 1,000 Bay Area earthquakes, says Eileen Martin, a recent alumnus of Stanford’s Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering, now Assistant Professor at Virginia Tech, whose research is focused on seismology. Martin and Nilah Monnier Ioannidis, a postdoctoral scholar concentrating on data science and genomics at Stanford, sat down to discuss the pivotal role of data in their research for the Women in Data Science podcast. Despite coming from different fields, both researchers tout the importance of data in academic research. Genomic sequencing requires vast amounts of data, but privacy concerns mandate important restrictions, Ioannidis says. Consequently, she is collaborating with outside institutions that have already amassed large stores of genomic data to understand its role in the field of genomics. Kaiser Permanente is among those collaborations; the company has already done a large-scale genomics study for Northern California. Martin says that being open with other researchers and sharing ideas is a real plus in the field. Ioannidis echoes these sentiments. While Martin acknowledges the risk that another researcher will use the shared information, she adds, “We’re all busy trying to do our own experiments.” Their advice for students looking to pursue a career in data science within academia: look for new experimental techniques because there will always be an interesting math or computing problem to solve.

The Waverider falls through the time stream and lands in the Cretaceous Period after evil Rip Hunter utters the override command and forces Gideon to obey him once again. Spaniel. Broad. Tricycle. Synopsis The Legends have deduced who has the final piece of the Spear but not when he might be hidden. Gideon searches for the piece using the medallion but cannot process data fast enough to find the location before Rip uses her to escape from the brig. He takes the medallion, initiates the Spectrum protocol and attempts to make it to the jump ship and escape from the Waverider. The Legends confront him and he destroys the medallion. Now, only Rip knows when Commander Steel is with the final piece. Mick knocks Rip unconscious while Jax reboots the ship, sending them into a freefall through time. Gideon comes back online and jumps to the oldest location in her logs, which happens to be the same time period where Ray was stranded in the premiere of this season. Unfortunately, a vital piece of the ship has been lost during the rough landing. Ray sets out to recover it from his old stomping grounds with Nate and Amaya. Meanwhile on the Waverider, Mick explains to Sara the Time Masters used a process called coggy something, ah yes, Cognitive Intrusion. It is a barbaric Matrix-style process that let’s Sara and Jax enter the subconscious mind of Rip Hunter. While Martin and Mick supervise, Sara and Jax take a trip down the rabbit hole to change Rip back to his old self. As soon as they arrive, they realize they are still on the Waverider in Rip’s mind with some key changes. Rip’s memory of Vandal Savage’s soldiers march past them as they begin to search for Rip. Searching for weapons to defend themselves, Sara encounters her evil doppelganger. After defeating herself, Sara and Jax continue to search for Rip and come face to face with evil versions of Sara, Firestorm, Ray and Rory (well, Rory is pretty much the same, but still). Jax takes off with Firestorm in pursuit, but Sara is knocked out by evil Ray and tossed in the brig. Surprisingly, Rip is cowering in the corner, terrified of everything around him and forgetting who he really is. After giving Firestorm the slip, Jax finds Gideon in human form, presumably as Rip has always imagined her. They find Sara and Rip and help them escape. Gideon explains that only Rip can defeat the evil version of the Legends keeping him imprisoned in his own mind. Sara and Jax wake-up while Rip completes the final obstacle in his mind: leaving a human Gideon behind. In a tender moment, Rip kisses Gideon and wakes up from his trance, finally restored to his former self. He joins the Legends on the bridge as one by one, they welcome him back to the team. In the final scene, we learn where the final piece of the Spear is hidden. Martin Keen comes from a long line of craftsman. Martin's father was known to build furniture and both his father and grandfather made shoes. It is no surprise that Martin followed in their footsteps. After going to industrial design school and experiencing many injuries in a sailboat, Martin designed a sandal with protective toe gear for sailors. His successful design led to the creation of Keen Footwear, a company that still exists today. While Martin was working as a designer and a consultant for other companies, he realized that his creativity suffered when he was sedentary. He began tinkering in his barn and built an upright seat device that kept him energized by correcting his posture. The first prototype was created in 1995 but Martin didn't launch Focal Upright until 2012. Today Martin and his wife, Mary (who appears as a surprise guest in this episode!), continue to build Focal Upright Furniture with the help of Venture for America Fellows. In total, Focal has hired 6 Fellows and continues to be an amazing partner to VFA. Tune in to this week's episode to learn more about Martin's journey from shoe designer to furniture designer and why standing isn't the answer.

Martin is the retired CEO of Interwoven, Inc. and all around peak performer striving to balance his natural competitive intensity with an evolved perspective. At Interwoven, Martin presided over a classic dotcom startup sensation, taking the web content management software company from the basement to a successful public offering at breakneck speed, riding the wave to a $6 billion valuation at one point, and then having to abruptly shift gears to weather the economic collapse and keep the entity thriving. Interwoven was later acquired by a larger enterprise and technically still exists today—probably a one in 100 success story in the world of high flying software startups. Martin is an understated guy quick to bestow credit to others. He avoids the spotlight and the silly excess consumption seen with many of his ilk. Only with coaxing from me did he dispense some of his fabulous leadership and peak performance insights that can help you understand how he got to the top of the most competitive economic environment on the planet by being kind, generous, open-minded, and leading a healthy, fit, and balanced lifestyle. You’ll hear how Martin worked his way through college, reached for and thrived in jobs that were above his qualifications, and managed the disparate challenges of growing Interwoven at record pace and then quickly having to tighten the reins and get lean ‘n mean. While Martin followed the classic script of striking Silicon Valley gold and retiring to the top of the hill before reaching 50, the story takes some surprising twists and turns toward the end. As he (literally) sailed off into the sunset, Martin relates how his competitive drive got the better of him and led to disillusionment in the face of a great competitive victory. He was compelled to slow down, get off his boat, get over himself, and reflect more carefully on what it means to win in whatever game of life you are playing. Martin may suggest that he is “old news” in the age of Facebook and Google tech hotshots, but his valuable insights may get you to think differently about your role as a leader, your career aspirations, and constantly assessing and reassessing your priorities. There are so many cool tidbits in this show, including how Lance Armstrong himself (at the height of his fame in pre-scandal Tour de France legend mode), was “intimidated” when he first met Martin, how Martin likes to hire people with an “owner, not renter” mentality, the mandatory best practices and stratification for email, telephone/voicemail, and in-person communications in the workplace, how young aspirants might best put some time in with bigger operations and avoid startup fever, how we best pace ourselves instead of romanticizing workaholism. “Be suspicious of heroism,” Martin says. Enjoy this show and pull down some memorable insights to be the best you can be in all of your competitive pursuits.
