In Episode 254 of The Julia La Roche Show, legendary economist Dr. Lacy Hunt, Chief Economist at Hoisington Investment Management, analyzes what he calls an economic "interregnum" where five convergent forces are aligning to depress growth. Dr. Hunt methodically explains how tariffs will ultimately prove deflationary rather than inflationary, why the Fed's restrictive monetary policy is misplaced, how federal spending cuts are creating headwinds, why massive debt overhang limits policy effectiveness, and how changing demographics will impact long-term prospects. With over 56 years of experience and historical perspective dating back to the 1920s, Dr. Hunt delivers a sobering but authoritative prediction that recession lies ahead in 2025, describing it as "a long, difficult slog" rather than a brief downturn.Sponsor: This episode is brought to you by Monetary Metals. https://monetary-metals.com/julia Dr. Hunt is an internationally known and award-winning economist. The BanterThe Guys talk about what Robert Simonson calls “the cold switcheroo” and what's next in the world of martini. The ConversationThe Restaurant Guys get two Corisons on one show! They catch up with Cathy Corison and her daughter Grace Corison Martin who will, perhaps along with her sister, take over the winery one day. They discuss the challenging past, bright present and brilliant future of Corison Wines. The Inside TrackThey have been avid fans of Cathy Corison's wines (Corison Winery) and they have hosted wine dinners at their places with Cathy and she has hosted them when they visit in California. On the idea of her daughters eventually taking the reins at the winery, Cathy says,“I'm just so grateful to know that it's going to go forward after me because we're farmers. It's a very long term business. And in fact, the wines I'm making today are still going to be on the youthful side when I'm gone. So just to know that it's going to go forward is, is very, very gratifying,” Cathy Corison on The Restaurant Guys Podcast 2024BioCathy Corison's winemaking journey began nearly 50 years ago when she took a wine appreciation course. Two years later she graduated, and two days after that, arrived in the Napa Valley, bent on making wine. A master's degree in Enology at UC Davis followed. She made wine at Chappellet Vineyard for the 1980's. In 1987, toward the end of her tenure at Chappellet, there was a wine inside her that she needed to make and she began to buy grapes and barrels. Using other wineries' facilities, she was able to create the wine of her own.She founded her own winery, Corison Winery, in 1987. The winery is located in St. Helena, California in a barn built by Corison's husband, William Martin. They have two daughters, Grace and Rose, who are poised to take the reins in the future. Grace Corison Martin earned a BFA in Acting from Syracuse University and then worked in restaurants in NYC. Since moving back to the Napa Valley, Grace completed her Winemaking Certificate at UC Davis, and her Level 3 WSET.InfoCorison Wineryhttps://www.corison.com/See the Kronos table!https://www.corison.com/about/Our Sponsors The Heldrich Hotel & Conference Centerhttps://www.theheldrich.com/ Magyar Bankhttps://www.magbank.com/ Withum Accountinghttps://www.withum.com/ Our Places Stage Left Steakhttps://www.stageleft.com/ Catherine Lombardi Restauranthttps://www.catherinelombardi.com/ Stage Left Wineshophttps://www.stageleftwineshop.com/ To hear more about food, wine and the finer things in life:https://www.instagram.com/restaurantguyspodcast/https://www.facebook.com/restaurantguysReach Out to The Guys!TheGuys@restaurantguyspodcast.com**Become a Restaurant Guys Regular and get two bonus episodes per month, bonus content and Regulars Only events.**Click Below! https://www.buzzsprout.com/2401692/subscribe

What has your child failed at recently? Today's episode we continued taking a look at a few passages from the book, The Parent's Tao Te Ching by William Martin. This episode is all about failure being our best teacher. These passages remind us how wonderful it is to be human and with that comes mistakes. There are also messages freeing us as parents to realize our life experiences in their fullness both the happy and sad, success and failure all help us to teach our children. I share a few experiences of my own failure and hardships. I also relay the story of Sara Blakely, the founder and inventor of Spanx, who was asked by her dad each night at dinner when she was young what she had failed at that week which helped her not be afraid of failure. “Create space within your heart and your children will always rest secure.” In this episode, I share a few more words of wisdom from the book, The Parent's Tao Te Ching: A New Interpretation - Ancient advice for modern parents by William Martin. I chose 3 different chapters that have similar themes. To learn to relax your grip with your children and rely more on the Tao. To make room and not fill all of your children's time and to be still, open and spacious. Simple ideas and good things to think about.

“…And make the ordinary come alive for them. The extraordinary will take care of itself.” In this episode I will be sharing a quote from William Martin from the book, The Parent's Tao Te Ching: Ancient Advice for Modern Parents. In this quote is the idea that we need to help our kids find wonder in the ordinary things and the extraordinary will take care of itself. I share a little bit from 3 Nephi chapters 1 and 2, that some of the people were no longer astonished about signs and wonders. I mention my youthful ideas, looking forward to extraordinary things and not realizing how wonderful and happy an ordinary life can be. I then explore the quote by Plutarch, who talks about our learning less like a vessel to be filled but wood that needs to be lit on fire. Finding wonder and being lit on fire - all good things to help us appreciate the goodness of an ordinary life. For show notes go to www.findingthefloor.com/ep194I would love to hear from you! This podcast discussion represents two people from different parts of the globe with different backgrounds looking for common ground. As you listen you can initially hear different perspectives and perceptions. It felt that we began to synchronize at some point and eventually arrived at the same place. It should not be surprising. There are 8 billion of us on the planet. While we all may look completely different; we are designed exactly the same. When we move to defend our belief's, we often sacrifice the ability to move forward and seek the learning that is necessary to raise the discussion to higher understanding. Curiosity initiates logic, reason and intuition. Defense moves us to justify and rationalize a belief or an action in the past. Forward is the future we are trying to shape. Backward is the past we cannot change. We own our belief's. There is no reason to defend them. Someone with different belief's is not a threat to ours. Someone else cannot steal our belief. However, if we are curious and listen to others, we can then decide for ourselves if new information somehow may shape our change our current belief. We don't have to like another's perspective or their idea. We just have to listen. As you listen to this podcast, see if you can hear how the different perspectives begin to align. We can release and discover potential in each other, or we can suppress it. We have that power. The question is, are you willing to walk through the door?

Check out this New release from the "Boston Gems" series part of the new fall season of Takin A Walk. Join Host Buzz Knight and Best Selling Author William Martin as they walk and talk at The North Bridge in Concord Massachusetts. William is the "King of the historical thriller" including his latest "December 41." Check out show notes here. William Martin: An American Author and His Love of History Reading is the foundation of a good writer and one of the most important skills to possess. It allows one to develop an arsenal of ideas and find unique ways to write about a topic. It also makes one a better writer by providing inspiration and developing writing skills. Join this conversation and meet William Martin, a “storyteller whose smoothness matches his ambition.” (Publisher's Weekly) In his boyhood, William Martin loved what he later called "big stories on broad canvases." He read the historical novels of C.S. Forester and Esther Forbes. He sat transfixed by the big movies of the early sixties. So, after college, he went to Hollywood to try his hand at screenwriting but discovered that his instincts were better suited to novels. His first, "Back Bay," introduced treasure hunter Peter Fallon to a new kind of adventure that joined the contemporary mystery-thriller to the historical novel. In his twelve novels (including six bestselling Peter Fallon adventures), Martin has tracked national treasures across the landscape of the American imagination, chronicled the lives of the great and the anonymous in American history, and brought to life legendary American locations, from Cape Cod to Washington DC in "The Lincoln Letter." And after the publication of his Gold Rush epic, "Bound for Gold," the Providence Journal called him "the king of the historical thriller." "December '41," published in the summer of '22, provides readers with another propulsive journey through American history. He has also written an award-winning PBS documentary on the life of Washington, a cult-classic horror movie, has contributed book reviews to the Boston Globe and The New England Quarterly, and has taught writing across the country, from the Harvard Extension School to the legendary Maui Writers Conference. He lives near Boston with his wife and has three grown children. He received the 2005 New England Book Award, "an author whose work stands as a significant contribution to the region's culture." He has also won the Samuel Eliot Morison Award and the Robert B. Parker Award. Tune in! This is a promo for our next episode of our Boston Gems Series with Author William Martin. He is the author of December 41 A World War Two Thriller.
Here is a poem by William Martin, called, 'Do not ask your children to strive' Do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives. Such striving may seem admirable, but it is the way of foolishness. Help them instead to find the wonder and the marvel of an ordinary life. Show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples and pears. Show them how to cry when pets and people die. Show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand. And make the ordinary come alive for them. The extraordinary will take care of itself. I don't have kids yet. I try to take my nieces and nephews outside and show them the wonders around them, so they develop an appreciation for simple things that are really the essence of being alive. My first year as a head coach, I kept a notebook. Every day after practice or a game, I'd write 1-2 sentences that summarized the day or of an event that happened that day that stuck out to me. Most days were very ordinary. At the end of the season, I had 60+ days worth of ‘ordinary' to reflect on. I used that notebook to write my end of the season speech, which may have been the best one I've ever given. It was because we found extraordinary in the ordinary. We found beauty in the average day. We could see our love for each other grow, our respect for the game and our opponents grow. My challenge for you - are you teaching your players to strive for extraordinary? Are you showing them that the extraordinary will take care of itself if they do the ordinary exceptionally well?
William Martin is the New York Times bestselling author of twelve novels, a PBS documentary, book reviews, magazine articles, and a cult-classic horror movie, too. His first Peter Fallon novel, Back Bay, established him as "a master storyteller." He has been following the lives of the great and anonymous in American history ever since, taking readers from the Mayflower in Cape Cod to Ford's Theater in The Lincoln Letter to the South Tower on 9/11 in City of Dreams. We're back! Sasha and Stella update listeners with how they've spent their six-week break and jump right into discussing the plight of parents whose kids are experiencing gender distress. The first-ever in-person Wider Lens retreat for parents was held in Maryland in March 2022. This was a profound experience for the attendees and also for Sasha and Stella, who reflect today upon the common themes picked up at the retreat. These include medical negligence, parental guilt, and the transformative and comforting power of connection that emerged between parents who truly understand each other. Forthcoming plans for Season Two are also highlighted in this episode. Extended Notes Proof the mental health lesson of “take a break” can have a positive effect. Stella describes how she spent her time away from the podcast. Struggling with writing, Sasha found inspiration in Patricia Goodson's book, Becoming an Academic Writer. Sasha is creating an environment that is conducive to calm, mindful writing. The interest and impact of the Wider Lens in-person retreat. Sasha calls out the medical professionals who neglect their jobs. It was a warm reception at the retreat as parents mentioned the podcast. Stella felt like she was meeting old friends. At the retreat, parents from all different backgrounds were united by sharing their stories, some for the first time. A common thread between the families was that therapists had recommended social or medical transitions without performing proper assessments. Meeting in person brought a sense of community to parents as similar patterns emerged. Parents often blame themselves but they need to cut themselves some slack. There is no formula. Empathy and understanding are the foundational building blocks of healing. The needs of parents who have boys are profoundly different from girls' gender dysphoria. Both Stella and Sasha noticed that a lot of sibling tension emerged during the retreat. There is not a lot of family-oriented therapy around gender. Parents who worry about their parenting are probably in the top 5% of caregivers. There is a requirement for parents and that is to let go and trust the process. It is easy for parents to lose themselves when their child feels lost. Identity can trap us in very dangerous ways. During her time off, Sasha has been re-exploring Tao. Sasha recommends The Parent's Tao Te Ching: Ancient Advice for Modern Parents, by William Martin to Stella. There will be another retreat in Arizona at the end of October 2022. Sasha shares the new ideas for forthcoming podcasts. Stella is further exploring the state of the nation in the United States. 2022 could be a pivotal year for gender. Can Feng Shui transform your life? For our special guest on this episode, Sara Fletcher, it certainly transformed her outlook, empowered her to reach beyond her limits, altered the trajectory of her life, and elevated her to a new purpose. "Nothing teaches children more than a parent who is willing to learn." - William Martin, The Parent's Tao Te Ching The art of Feng Shui is to create energy flow throughout a space, and that is exactly what Sara does in her work as a Feng Shui Consultant. By making changes - small or large - within a space, Feng Shui has the power to uplift, encourage, motivate, energize, and help you to become the highest good version of yourself. But Sara's story begins long before she ever thought of walking this career path. Growing up, Sara was always drawn toward the elements of design and the power of creating beautiful, feel-good spaces. It wasn't until later in life, when she suffered a medical crisis, that she stumbled upon Feng Shui as a catalyst for change. Through her own life transformation, Sara has seen the power of Feng Shui first hand, and now as a Feng Shui practitioner, she helps others to transform their lives as well. A journey through the Tao Te Ching with William Martin.
Hey everybody... This week, Dodge and I are unpacking his conversation with William Martin. We try to have a simple conversation on a simple concept and fail terribly. But that's the path of the Tao, right? Thanks to William's guidance, we know not to beat ourselves up about such things, but move through it. We appreciate you moving through the conversation with us. Thanks for showing up. — Pete
Hey everybody... it's Pete. At one point in our conversation today, Dodge will say that he's going to try to explain to you all what the Tao is. Our guest, who has been studying and thinking about the Tao for more than three decades says in response, "Good luck with that." That pretty much says it all for me, too. I've read a bit, thought some, studied my fair share. But the Tao is one of those pesky constructs, an intellectual raccoon trap, and just when I think I have a handle on what it means for me, I get my metaphorical fist stuck in the bottle and can't break free. That's why we're glad to have William Martin on the show with us today. He's written many Tao-inspired books, including The Parent's Tao Te Ching, and his latest, The Activist's Tao Te Ching. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and Western Theological Seminary, he has worked as a research scientist for the Department of the Navy, a clergyman, and a college instructor in counseling, communications, and the humanities—and for many years, conducted workshops and seminars on the application of Taoist and Zen thought to the issues of everyday life. All that is to say, we're in good hands with Bill today. He's not a high mystic — an oracle on the hill — he's a guy who has worked hard to understand this thing in a way that can make it approachable to the rest of us. We deeply enjoyed talking with him and hope you do, too. Links & Notes Freedom, Simplicity, and Joy — William Martin's Home on the Web Buy the Books • William Martin's Amazon Author Page
