Emmy-Winner Michael Emerson Boards Arrow for S6 (Date: 22 July 2017) a. Emmy Award-winner Michael Emerson has joined the cast of Arrow for the series' sixth season, as revealed at a panel for the DC Comics-based series at Comic-Con International in San Diego. The Lost alum will board the series in a recurring capacity; he will play a member of a villainous cabal. Additionally, it was confirmed David Nykl (who plays Oliver Queen's friend/mentor/nemesis, Anatoly Knyazev) will return to the series. b. http://www.cbr.com/michael-emerson-cast-arrow-season-6/ 2. Arrow Showrunner Addresses Olicity In Season 6 (Date: 24 July 2017) a. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim said during an interview at Comic Con International with Comicbook, “I'm going to give a very unsatisfying answer to the Olicity fans, which is that we sort of set Oliver and Felicity on a certain trajectory starting with 520, and you saw a little bit of it in 523. We're continuing it. I will say that the events of the finale did throw a little bit of a wrench into their slow rekindling of their relationship.” b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/24/arrow-olicity-season-6/ 3. Spoiler Room: Scoop on Game of Thrones, Arrow, Westworld, and more (Date: 20 July 2017) a. Do you have any scoop on the new villain (or villains) on Arrow next season? — Here's a little teaser: “As usual, every season we want to try to up the stakes and do something different,” EP Wendy Mericle tells me. “This will be something we've never seen before. The villain will be hopefully as dynamic and as interesting as the ones we've had in the past. These people, or this person, won't just be somebody that's a thorn in Oliver's side, but it'll effect the whole team personally and very directly.” Could Cayden James and Helix be the culprits she speaks of? “You never know,” Mericle says. “They are still in the wind. We don't like to leave those threads dangling.” b. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/20/spoiler-room-game-thrones-arrow-westworld/ 4. One Fan-Favorite Arrow Character Will Receive Flashbacks In Season 6 (Date: 26 July 2017) a. Marc Guggenheim has revealed that a fan-favorite character will receive flashbacks for the very first time in Season 6. In an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, Guggenheim had this to say about Season 6, “You're gonna still see flashbacks. It won't be every episode and it won't be serialized. They'll be character specific and I'll give you one example... as you saw in the trailer Manu Bennett is back for the season premiere and he's also coming back for a special two-part episode in the first half of the season where we're really going to be focusing hard on his character, post everything he's experienced on the show and we intend to do a Slade Wilson flashback story.” b. http://www.cinemablend.com/television/1685200/one-fan-favorite-arrow-character-will-receive-flashbacks-in-season-6 5. ARROW Season 6 SDCC '17 Trailer Finds Oliver Queen In A Brand New Role (Date: 22 July 2017) a. The Arrow season 6 trailer reveals that Slade made it off Lian Yu before Prometheus' trap could blast him to smithereens. But what about Diggle, Felicity and the rest of Team Arrow? There's was no sign of any of the regulars Arrow fans have come to know and love over the course of five seasons. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/arrow/arrow-season-6-sdcc-17-trailer-finds-oliver-queen-in-a-brand-new-role-a152758 6. Arrow Showrunner Says Richard Dragon Will Be Grounded Crime Lord (Date: 25 July 2017) a. Richard Dragon, one of the last major Green Arrow villains yet to appear on Arrow, is coming in season six -- and he will be different from the series' other big bads, according to series executive producer Marc Guggenheim. "You know, what I really like about our interpretation of Richard is, he's very grounded," Guggenheim said. "He's not a flamboyant big bad, he doesn't wear a costume, he really is a crimelord sort of in the Tobias Church model. For Tobias we only really saw him for about five episodes, so we were excited about th prospect of doing a cool, gritty crime lord, but for a longer period of time. We've never really done that on the show before, so it's different." b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/25/arrow-showrunner-says-richard-dragon-will-be-grounded-crime-lord/ GENERAL DC TV NEWS 1. Legends of Tomorrow: Sara's Season 3 Love Interest is a New Character (Date: 25 July 2017) a. Love is in the air for Waverider captain Sara Lance. When the character returns in Legends of Tomorrow Season 3, she will find herself embroiled in a new romance. On Twitter, executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that this romance will be with a new character. Guggenheim and fellow executive producer Phil Klemmer revealed that Sara will get a new love interest at Comic-Con International's Legends of Tomorrow panel. “It's definitely time for Sara to settle down, or at least have a relationship that's more than a roll in the hay. It's hard when you're travelling through time,” Klemmer announced. “It's definitely been a priority of ours to re-establish Sara's bisexuality in Season 3,” Guggenheim added. “It's a big, important thing for us this year.” b. http://www.cbr.com/legends-of-tomorrow-sara-love-interest-new-character/ 2. The Flash: Tom Felton not returning as series regular (Date 25 July 2017) a. At the close of season 3, Julian was still a member of Team Flash, but with Barry now trapped in the Speed Force, and the show jumping ahead at least six months, it appears that Julian has left the team. The character was missing from the new season 4 footage in the recently released trailer, which was shown at Comic-Con, an event the Harry Potter alum also didn't attend. As of yet, Felton has not booked a return to the show, but as with all actors in the Berlanti-verse, there's a chance we could see Felton again if it makes sense for the story and his scheduling permits it. b. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/25/flash-tom-felton-not-returning-season-4/?utm_campaign=entertainmentweekly&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&xid=entertainment-weekly_socialflow_twitter 3. THE FLASH Season 4 Casts The Thinker; Danny Trejo And More Join As Key DC Comics Characters (Date 23 July 2017) a. Neil Sandilands (The 100) is set to take on the role of Clifford Devoe/The Thinker, a metahuman with a mega mind who embarks on a season-long battle with The Flash that pits the "fastest man alive" against the "fastest mind alive." Danny Trejo (Machete) is Breacher, a feared bounty hunter from Earth-19 and the imposing father of inter-dimensional bounty hunter Gypsy. His mission is to prevent any inter-dimensional traveller from threatening life on his planet — especially his daughter's. Kim Engelbrecht (Dominion) is The Mechanic, a highly intelligent engineer who designs devices for Devoe. As Devoe's right hand, she's the truest of true believers who'll stop at nothing to help him implement his plan to fix humanity. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/the_flash/the-flash-season-4-casts-the-thinker-danny-trejo-and-more-join-as-key-dc-comics-characters-a152752 4. The Flash Gets a New Suit in Season 4 Set Photo (Date 29 July 2017) a. Set photos captured by YVRShoots.com show Gustin on set during July 28th, wearing what appears to be a new Flash suit. This comes after Gustin shared a photo of part of the suit on Instagram, and spoke about his desire for a new costume during an interview with ComicBook.com at San Diego Comic-Con. Interestingly, the suit is appears to be almost identical to the suit worn by the 2024 version of Barry Allen, which was briefly seen in last season's 'The Once and Future Flash'. b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/29/the-flash-season-4-new-suit-barry-allen-grant-gustin/ 5. SUPERGIRL Season 3 Trailer Released; Calista Flockhart Set To Recur & Four New Cast Additions Announced (Date 22 July 2017) a. The CW has confirmed that Calista Flockhart will return for Supergirl season three and it sounds like she'll be popping in a lot more frequently this time around as she's secured recurring status. She'll first appear in the season premiere on October 9. Additionally, Adrian Pasdar, Carl Lumbly, Yael Grobglas, and Emma Tremblay have all joined the cast. Pasdar will play Morgan Edge, a ruthless real estate developer who will find himself at odds with Lena Luthor. Lumbly will play J'onn's father M'yrnn J'onzz, a pacifist religious leader on Mars. Grobglas will play Psi, a psychic villain who uses people's minds against them. Tremblay will play Ruby, a smart kid who's fascination with Supergirl lands her in serious trouble. The official season three trailer gives us our first look at Odette Annable as Reign and Erica Durance as Alura Zor-El. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/supergirl/supergirl-season-3-trailer-released-calista-flockhart-set-to-recur-four-new-cast-additions-announced-a152739 6. LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Season 3 Trailer Released; Both Captain Cold & Damien Darhk Will Return (Date 22 July 2017) a. The CW announced today that both Wentworth Miller and Neal McDonough will reprise their roles as Captain Cold and Damien Darhk, respectively, on the upcoming third season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Miller will actually return in a recurring capacity, but he won't exactly be the Leonard Snart we came to know and love in seasons one and two. He'll instead be playing a brand new version of fan-favorite character, which should lead to some interesting interactions between him and Mick. During the panel, executive producer Phil Klemmer teased, “Mick Rory needs his pal, but unfortunately he's not going to get the version of his pal that he remembers.” Meanwhile, McDonough will be upped to a series regular and will also come with his own, more dangerous, changes. "We'll be meeting a new version of Damien Darhk, a little less silly, a little more formidable." Arthur Darvill will also be back as Rip Hunter, but in a recurring role, and it sounds like he'll be coming into conflict with his former teammates. “Last season, the Legends were the only game in town,” Klemmer said. “Now they're competing with the best and brightest. Rip Hunter has reconstituted what the Time Masters were, so the existential question for the Legends is where do we fit into this universe?” As for new additions, a new villain will arise in the form of Kuasa, Vixen's granddaughter. Tala Ashe will also join the Waverider crew as Zari Adrianna Tomaz, a Muslim-American woman from 2030. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/legends_of_tomorrow/legends-of-tomorrow-season-3-trailer-released-both-captain-cold-damien-darhk-will-return-a152743 7. Spoiler Room: Scoop on Supergirl, Once Upon a Time, Defenders, and more (Date 27 July 2017) a. Is there any chance Alura is actually still alive on Supergirl? — With Erica Durance joining the show in a recast of Alura, EW pressed new showrunners Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner for answers at Comic-Con. “Shrouded in mystery, those questions,” Queller said coyly. Rovner added: “We wanted to keep Alura's presence on the show because it really connects Kara to Krypton and her roots and what it meant to see her family and her planet destroyed. It's an emotional grounding that's always important.” However, there's a good chance Mon-El ended up in the Phantom Zone — you know, the same Kryptonian prison that Alura had a hand in sending criminals to, so what if she escaped the destruction of Krypton and ended up there herself? Another dodge from the EPs: “Where Mon-El is and how he comes back is the central mystery of our season,” Queller said. “But the theme of this season is what does it mean to be human? Kara is going to be especially grappling with that, and all of the characters are. The loss of her family and Krypton impacts that a lot. The mother-daughter relationship is something we still want to explore in whatever fashion.” b. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/27/spoiler-room-supergirl-once-upon-time-defenders/ 8. THE FLASH Star Grant Gustin Says It's The Show's Goal To Adapt CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS (Date 25 July 2017) a. Speaking to ComicBook at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Grant Gustin confirmed that while it's still a long time from happening, it's been the goal to eventually adapt Crisis on Infinite Earths on the show . "We don't really talk about it on a yearly basis but it was mentioned early on and that's a goal. Obviously we'd have to go I think ten years to reach that, so there's a possibility for sure. It'll be fun to get there." The massive multiverse event saw the collapse of multiple parallel universes, along with the "death" of The Flash himself. The story has been hinted at since the pilot episode of the show, where the Reverse Flash views a newspaper headline from the future stating that The Flash has "vanished in a crisis". Showrunner Todd Helbing also spoke to CB about the upcoming season 4, which he promised will be "fun" again after the "doom and gloom" of season 3. "Last year, once we showed Iris die in the future, to keep up that doom and gloom, it becomes a burden, and not just on us writing-wise, on the show and it just sort of had this pall over the season that I think we didn't expect to be so heavy;” there is “a conscious effort of ours to really go back to everybody enjoyed being on this team and with each other, and make The Flash have fun again.” b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/the_flash/the-flash-star-grant-gustin-says-its-the-shows-goal-to-adapt-crisis-on-infinite-earths-a152832 9. THE FLASH Is Reborn In The Official Comic-Con Trailer For The Upcoming Fourth Season (Date 22 July 2017) a. For the first time since the series' inception, a new character is taking on the voiceover and she doesn't sound quite like her usual hopeful self as the months without Barry have taken a serious toll on her. The new trailer also teases new villains, including a very interesting looking Samurai and a few returning faces. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/the_flash/the-flash-is-reborn-in-the-official-comic-con-trailer-for-the-upcoming-fourth-season-a152748 10. The Flash's Grant Gustin Says Speed Force Will Change Barry (Date 25 July 2017) a. “We're not necessarily going to see Barry's experience in the Speed Force. We'll see kind of the effects that the Speed Force has had on Barry, and he's been in there six months real-time,” Gustin started. “I suspect the Speed Force is kind of nonlinear with time, so Barry has experienced his entire life from star to end infinity times over since he's been in there. It's almost like a fresh start for me as an actor.” b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/25/the-flash-speed-force-grant-gustin/ 11. Legends of Tomorrow Announces Tracy Ifeachor as S3 Villain (Date 26 July 2017) a. DC's Legends of Tomorrow will get mighty personal for Vixen in Season 3. During the show's panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Kuasa — the sister of Mari McCabe's Vixen — was announced as a villain for the upcoming season. Now, we can put a face to the name. Quantico star Tracy Ifeachor will play the character. Since Kuasa is Mari's sister, that also makes her the granddaughter of Amaya, who is slated to be a main character in Legends Season 3. At SDCC, executive producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed that the two will cross paths at some point this season, saying, “We're looking forward to the inevitable confrontation between Maisie [Richardson-Sellers]'s character and her granddaughter.” b. http://www.cbr.com/legends-of-tomorrow-kuasa-tracy-ifeachor/ 12. The Flash Season 4 Set Photos Show New Female Villain (Date 29 July 2017) a. YVRShoots.com recently shared pictures of The Flash's newest foe, who will reportedly appear the third episode of the season, entitled 'Luck Me a Lady.' In one set of photos, an actress is robbing a bank in a red dress, while other photos show the same actress running after a bus in a rather noteworthy casino outfit. Fans were quick to recognize the casino dealer outfit as that belonging to the DC Comics villain Becky Sharpe, a.k.a. Hazard. Hazard has appeared throughout the DC Comics mythos as a member of the Injustice Society, and was the granddaughter of the original Gambler. The antagonist is bestowed with psionic powers, which allow her to cause good or bad "accidents" to her foes. b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/29/the-flash-set-photos-show-new-female-villain/ ARROW CAST AND CREW INTERVIEWS 1. During a Comic Con Interview with Arrow's leading lady Emily Bett Rickards, we were joined by series regular Echo Kellum, who brought out Rickards's playful side. They quickly realize that Eobard Thawne has taken over the craft and is trying to retrieve the piece of spear hidden in the American flag Steel left on the moon. Sara and the Waverider manage to rescue the Apollo crew members, but Ray and Eobard have to team up to get their piece of the ship off the moon while Victor distracts Houston with a song. With everyone back on the Waverider and the Apollo crew back on course, the depleted Waverider manages to get back to Earth, but only after trusting Eobard’s fancy future space math, and the sacrifice of Commander Steel’s life. Eobard escapes to fight another day, and Vixen, after a tussle with Nate, looks up her family’s future.
Eobard Thawne takes on Jack Swigert’s identity and hitches a ride to the moon on the Apollo 13 mission. The Legends track down Commander Steel to convince him to turn over his piece of the Spear for safekeeping. Synopsis Rip Hunter leaves Henry Heywood in 1965 with the final piece of the Spear of Destiny. He disappears into the crowd as Rip Hunter leads the Legends to the exact spot where he left him, but Commander Steel has already disappeared. The Legends return to the ship and deduce that Henry Heywood must be working for NASA. Sara commands the team to infiltrate NASA and locate Henry. Rip and Ray find Henry preparing to brief the press on the mission. As Rip approaches Henry and holds out his hand, Henry punches Rip in the face. He takes proper press credentials pretty seriously! Sara, Nate and Amaya join Ray and Henry who has locked Rip in a room. They explain why they have come for him in 1970 and he assures them his piece of the Spear is safe because it is not any where on Earth. He’s hidden it inside the flag Neil Armstrong planted on the moon. As soon as the Odyssey goes radio silent, Eobard Thawne resumes his own identity after knocking out the other astronauts. He heads into the lunar module just as miniaturized Ray enters the command module and spots him. Ray tries to stow away with him, but Thawne sees him and an epic space fight ensues. Thanks to zero gravity, Thawne cannot use his superspeed and both are on an equal playing field. Ray shoots Thawne with his phaser and disengages the lunar module. It’s now up to Ray to land the lunar module on the moon. Back on Earth, Jax, Stein and Rory are posing as British controllers. Sara radios down to let them know Ray is about to crash land on the moon and Stein quickly comes-up with a plan to distract the room of flight controllers while Jax cuts the feed. Daylight come and me won go home! Ray more or less lands safely on the moon without enough fuel to launch the LEM back into space. While he retrieves the piece of the Spear, the rest of the Legends onboard the Waverider rescue the command module which is headed straight for an asteroid field. Rip and Sara argue about the best course of action and she ultimately uses the Waverider to shield the command module from the asteroids, causing irreparable damage to the ship. All nonessential systems are shut down, including Gideon. Sara gives Ray the bad news and lets him know he will have to find a way off the moon on his own. With the damage to the Waverider, she won’t be able to pick him up as planned. Thawne convinces Ray that he needs his help and they form a temporary alliance to reroute the dwarf star energy from Ray’s suit to fuel the LEM and reconnect with the command module. On Sara’s mark, they launch the LEM and head straight for the command module, which Sara maneuvers in place with the tractor beam. Eobard is escorted immediately to the brig. With the Odyssey intact on the way home, our team celebrates. Dr. Stein, however, has done the math and realizes it will be next to impossible for the Legends to reenter the Earth’s atmosphere. Luckily, their prisoner is an expert in astronavigation and already knows the angle at which the Waverider needs to reenter the Earth’s atmosphere to remain intact. Unfortunately, they are one degree off the right angle and the only way to correct is to open the cargo bay, by hand. First Rip, then Sara, volunteer, but Henry has already left. Rip coaches him through opening the door as Nate runs to talk him out of it. His son is waiting in mission control. Henry tells Nate to give Hank a message and opens the cargo door. The Waverider is now on course to safely enter the Earth’s atmosphere. As soon as the Legends land, Eobard phases through the glass and Ray keeps him talking just long enough for his Black Flash alarm to go off. Thawne speeds off with no time to look for the other pieces of the Spear. In the final scene, we see Amaya ask Gideon about her future, but you aren’t supposed to know what your future holds… Links Air and Space Museum - Apollo 13 Mission Arrow Wikia - Appearance Stealing Device FAA Training Manuals - Returning from Space Contact Information If you want to join in the discussion, you can submit feedback via email to tomorowslegends@gmail.com. The Waverider falls through the time stream and lands in the Cretaceous Period after evil Rip Hunter utters the override command and forces Gideon to obey him once again. Spaniel. Broad. Tricycle. Synopsis The Legends have deduced who has the final piece of the Spear but not when he might be hidden. Gideon searches for the piece using the medallion but cannot process data fast enough to find the location before Rip uses her to escape from the brig. He takes the medallion, initiates the Spectrum protocol and attempts to make it to the jump ship and escape from the Waverider. The Legends confront him and he destroys the medallion. Now, only Rip knows when Commander Steel is with the final piece. Mick knocks Rip unconscious while Jax reboots the ship, sending them into a freefall through time. Gideon comes back online and jumps to the oldest location in her logs, which happens to be the same time period where Ray was stranded in the premiere of this season. Unfortunately, a vital piece of the ship has been lost during the rough landing. Ray sets out to recover it from his old stomping grounds with Nate and Amaya. Meanwhile on the Waverider, Mick explains to Sara the Time Masters used a process called coggy something, ah yes, Cognitive Intrusion. It is a barbaric Matrix-style process that let’s Sara and Jax enter the subconscious mind of Rip Hunter. While Martin and Mick supervise, Sara and Jax take a trip down the rabbit hole to change Rip back to his old self. As soon as they arrive, they realize they are still on the Waverider in Rip’s mind with some key changes. Rip’s memory of Vandal Savage’s soldiers march past them as they begin to search for Rip. Searching for weapons to defend themselves, Sara encounters her evil doppelganger. After defeating herself, Sara and Jax continue to search for Rip and come face to face with evil versions of Sara, Firestorm, Ray and Rory (well, Rory is pretty much the same, but still). Jax takes off with Firestorm in pursuit, but Sara is knocked out by evil Ray and tossed in the brig. Surprisingly, Rip is cowering in the corner, terrified of everything around him and forgetting who he really is. After giving Firestorm the slip, Jax finds Gideon in human form, presumably as Rip has always imagined her. They find Sara and Rip and help them escape. Gideon explains that only Rip can defeat the evil version of the Legends keeping him imprisoned in his own mind. Sara and Jax wake-up while Rip completes the final obstacle in his mind: leaving a human Gideon behind. In a tender moment, Rip kisses Gideon and wakes up from his trance, finally restored to his former self. He joins the Legends on the bridge as one by one, they welcome him back to the team. In the final scene, we learn where the final piece of the Spear is hidden. Eobard Thawne is posing as a doctor for the space program in 1970 and is about to “examine” astronaut Jack Swigert, a last minute addition to the Apollo 13 team. Houston, we have a problem. The Justice Society of America was conceived by editor Sheldon Mayer and writer Gardner Fox. The JSA first appeared in All Star Comics #3 (Winter 1940–1941). VIXEN - Probably the most recognizable member of the JSA's cast this time around was Vixen -- at least for fans of the CWverse. In addition to having her own animated series, Vixen -- an African-American woman who derives the power of animals from the Tantu Totem she wears around her neck -- had a memorable guest appearance on Arrow last season. Of course, that's all Mari. This woman? Mari's grandmother, Amaya Jiwe, who passed the totem down through their family. HOURMAN - Rex Tyler, also known as Hourman, is a Golden Age superhero and the first of a number of characters to use the Hourman name. Tyler has a number of superhuman abilities, like enhanced strength, reflexes, and healing -- but only for an hour at a time. His abilities are given to him by Miraclo, a drug he designed himself. There is an Hourman legacy including Rex's son Rick and an android from the 853rd Century programmed to act as a member of the Tyler family. The android, at a point in the past, presented Rex with an hourglass infused with tachyons -- time in its most basic form -- and that hourglass would become part of both his and Rick's costumes. Said hourglass has been seen on board the Waverider on previous episodes of DC's Legends of Tomorrow.. STARGIRL - Stargirl is Courtney Whitmore. In the TV series, she exists in 1942 -- but in the original comics, she was created (and existed) in 1999, and was part of a "next generation" of Justice Society members who came up in the late '90s and early 2000s. Courtney Whitmore was created by Geoff Johns and Lee Moder, and has a famous backstory: Johns named her after (and based her personality on) his sister Courtney, who died in the explosion of TWA Flight 800 in 1996. COMMANDER STEEL - Commander Steel is Hank Heywood, Sr., the first in a line of DC heroes to use variations on the Steel moniker. A legend in the World War II era and a member of the All-Star Squadron and later the Justice Society of America, Heywood's body had surgically-implanted mechanized steel devices that allowed his body to work on a superhuman level. Originally just "Steel," he was promoted to Commander Steel by President Roosevelt in 1940 -- so while this is his first appearance in live action, it's timeline-accurate to call him Commander Steel by this point in his career since the story takes place in 1942. DOCTOR MID-NITE - Doctor Mid-Nite is a name shared by a number of blind super-heroes and physicians with the ability to see in the darkness, using blackout bombs and martial arts to gain an advantage over criminals. Doctor Mid-Nite was created by Charles Reizenstein and Stan Aschmeier, first appearing in All-American Comics #25. OBSIDIAN - Obsidian is the son of Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott, a founding member of the JSA in the comics. He and his sister Jade would go on to play an important role in the Justice Society's sinoff groups the Young All-Stars and Infinity, Inc., as well as eventually joining the Justice Society itself. He was also briefly affiliated with the Justice League. LEAVENWORTH - The United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth is a medium-security United States federal prison for male inmates in northeast Kansas. On Arrow, it was revealed that Leavenworth is where John Diggle is being held while awaiting his court martial. KRIEGER - There are basically two figures who could have inspired Baron Krieger, even though there is no specific Baron Krieger in DC Comics. The first is Baron Blitzkrieg: Originally a World War II German army officer, the man who would be Baron Blitzkrieg was blinded when a concentration camp prisoner threw acid into his face. German scientists experimented on him, giving him injections of experimental drugs which would give him incredible powers for brief periods of time. The other possibility is Albrecht Krieger, who was basically Captain America, but for Nazis. A genetically-modified super-soldier, Krieger also had a mad scientist brother and a psychic sister we might have to worry about if it's him -- and while the backstory feels a lot more like Blitzkrieg's, Krieger has not only the name but the general look of this week's threat. MAX LORENZ - Max Lorenz was a famous singer, who lived in Germany around the time of World War II and is widely known as "Hitler's favorite tenor." Of course, it's a handy thing that Legends of Tomorrow star Victor Garber has the pipes to make that scene convincing. UBERMENSCH - It's worth noting that there are several references to "Übermensch" in here, which is derived from Nietzsche in Thus Spake Zarathustra, one of the influences for Superman, which is more or less what the word translates to directly. The term can literally translate to "Overman," which in the DC Comics universe is an alternate-universe version of Superman who lives on an Earth where the Nazis won World War II.REVERSE-FLASH - Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash, may have something up his sleeve. At the end of The Flash's Season 3 premiere earlier this month, he said that while his future was as it should be, Barry's might not be. Barry then went home to discover a number of small anomalies that made his life and those of his friends worse. Now, we learn that "somebody" is outfitting the villains of history with future tech in order to push the world to a slightly worse place. Could Eobard Thawne have stepped right out of "Flashpoint" and into "Out of Time?" Either way, seeing him and Darhk together is enough to make seasoned Arrowverse fans quake in their boots even before they know the other members of Thawne's little Legion of Doom. ARROW NEWS THE CW RENEWS ARROW, FLASH, SUPERGIRL AND LEGENDS OF TOMORROW (Date: 08 Jan 2017) Renewal will bring “Arrow” to Season Six, “The Flash” to Season Four, and “Supergirl” and “Legends of Tomorrow” each to Season Three. It will mark “Supergirl's” second season on The CW, following its freshman outing on CBS. However, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), still reeling from Detective Malone's murder, is bent on revenge – she wants to stop Prometheus at any cost. While in prison, Diggle (David Ramsey) fights for his life. Gregory Smith directed the episode written by Ben Sokolowski & Brian Ford Sullivan. Guggenheim also teased that Felicity will a meet a few people in the back half of the season that are connected to her past. Additionally, he explained that Felicity's new, darker direction can't be blamed solely on Billy Malone's death. Rather, her experiences over the course of the show will culminate in her new attitude. “Billy was the final straw,” he said. “It's also the sum of the fact that Felicity has been living in this darker world for the last four-plus years now…. How has that affected her way of thinking about things?” He added that this will be directly addressed in Season 5 Episode 11. Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-the-calculator-is-not-returning-yet/ ARROW: Greg Berlanti Teases More Appearances From Laurel Lance Across The CW (Date: 10 Jan 2017) While it hasn't been confirmed 100%, it's a pretty safe bet that this Laurel is the evil Black Siren from Earth 2, who was originally introduced in The Flash last year. While her motivations remain unknown, Arrow producer Greg Berlanti has teased the character's involvement in more than just the events of Arrow's fifth season. “We made a deal at the end of [season 4] to bring her back for a bunch of episodes. Katie is a part of the fabric of the show. Because the show, like a comic book, can move in different ways, and characters go and come, everybody that's ever been a part of the key and core ensemble has always had a place at the table for our show. There's the capacity for her to be [in all four shows]. At this moment, she's in three of them.” Link:https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/arrow/arrow-greg-berlanti-teases-more-appearances-from-laurel-lance-across-a148060 ARROW EPS ADMIT IT'S HARD TO DO THE SHOW WITHOUT A BLACK CANARY (Date: 11 Jan 2017) Co-showrunner Wendy Mericle said, “Look, it's hard to do a show about Green Arrow without having a Black Canary. I don't know if it will happen this season or when, but… we are going to be true to origins in the DC universe, and she's always going to be there.” So far on the show, three characters have carried the Canary name: Sara Lance, Laurel Lance and Evelyn Sharp. Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-eps-admit-its-hard-to-do-the-show-without-a-black-canary/ GENERAL DC TV NEWS The Mystery Surrounding Rip Hunter Is Revealed In New LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Synopsis (Date: 05 Jan 2017) LOST MEMORIES — When Damien Darhk (guest star Neal McDonough) and Malcolm Merlyn (guest star John Barrowman) try to capture Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) in 1967, they create an Aberration big enough to draw the attention of the Legends. However, when the team arrives they discover that Rip has no memories of his past due to “time drift” and is just a graduate film student. After trying to convince Rip of who he was, they discover that he possesses an incredibly powerful artifact known as the Spear of Destiny, which the Legion of Doom is after. Ray (Bradon Routh) and Nate (Nick Zano) realize that the Aberration has also affected them personally making it difficult to help the team. Meanwhile, Rory (Dominic Purcell) asks Stein (Victor Garber) for help and makes him promise to keep it a secret from the team. Caity Lotz, Franz Drameh and Maisie Richardson-Sellers also star. Dermott Downs directed the episode written by Keto Shimizu & Chris Fedak. Link: https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/legends_of_tomorrow/the-mystery-surrounding-rip-hunter-is-revealed-in-new-a147939 NEW LEGENDS OF TOMORROW EPS WILL STAR A WHOLE DIFFERENT RIP HUNTER (Date: 10 Jan 2017) The back half of season two kicks off on Tuesday, January 24 after the show's winter hiatus. That batch of episodes starts with an episode titled “Raiders of the Lost Art,” which guest stars a young George Lucas (or rather an actor named Matt Angel playing a young Lucas) and features the return of Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill). But Rip won't return the same as we previously knew him. Marc Guggenheim talked about the upcoming episodes and how the Spear of Destiny will impact the show. “The second half of the season is really paying off the Legion of Doom and what we now know is the MacGuffin of Season 2, the Spear of Destiny,” said Guggenheim. “Changing time is like painting with the biggest paintbrush possible; using the Spear of Destiny is like using a very, very fine-point technical pen.” Link: http://www.cbr.com/new-legends-of-tomorrow-eps-will-star-a-whole-different-rip-hunter/ The Girl Of Steel Visits Another World In Synopsis For Kevin Smith's Episode Of SUPERGIRL (Date: 05 Jan 2017) KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; ROULETTE RETURNS — Kara (Melissa Benoist) is moved by the story of a missing woman named Izzy (guest star Harley Quinn Smith) and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr's (guest star Ian Gomez) order to leave it alone. Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver's Moon, where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. The leader of the trafficking ring is none other than Roulette (guest star Dichen Lachman). To make matters worse, Slaver's Moon has a red sun, which means Kara and Mon-El are stripped of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Alex (Chyler Leigh) blames herself for Kara's disappearance, fearing she's become too focused on her new relationship with Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) and too complacent in watching out for her sister. Kevin Smith directed the episode with story by Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Eric Carrasco & Jess Kardos. When a criminal named Plunder (guest star Stephen Huszar) shows up in Central City, Barry recalls the villain's presence in his vision of the future and fears that if he catches Plunder, it will cement Iris' fate. According to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, the two-part story will have lasting ramifications on both shows. According to Kreisberg. “When we get to the musical episodes, both Barry and Kara will find themselves at pivotal crossroads on their respective series, and the experience of going through the musical will have a great impact on both series moving forward.” Executive producer Greg Berlanti confirmed the villain will indeed be the Music Meister, who can control people through song. What's more, the musical crossover will feature original songs and could include characters from any Earth or timeline in the “Arrow”-verse. No date has been announced for “The Flash”/”Supergirl” crossover. The series will also introduce a new telepathic gorilla straight from the comics, Solovar. Keith David will provide the voice of Solovar in the Gorilla Grodd-centric two-parter. David is a film and television veteran with a career spanning decades. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg announced the return of Grodd and Gorilla City during a presentation at the TCAs. Kreisberg also revealed that the two-parter will span multiple Earths. “One of the episodes will take place in Gorilla City [on Earth-2], and one of them will take place on Earth-1.” In the comics, Solovar — a psychic gorilla like Grodd — is the leader of Gorilla City. Under his rule, Gorilla City became a technological wonder. Solovar's involvement in “The Flash's” Grodd/Gorilla City two-parter makes sense considering that Solovar is Grodd's main rival (other than the Scarlet Speedster) in the comics. However, when the character returns, it may not only be on that CW drama — and he may not be portrayed by Teddy Sears. Transformed by time wraiths into Black Flash and then pulled into the Speed Force in “The Flash's” Season Two finale, the villain will indeed race back into the Arrowverse.“I will say that you might be seeing him on multiple shows,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour. He didn't say which shows those are, or when fans can expect Black Flash's return. “[Black Flash] is a classic character. We have storylines on multiple shows that fit having him around,” he said. “There's something so scary about him, something even scarier than when he was just the man, because now it's now he is the Grim Reaper, he is the devil. How do you stop the devil? So it presents an interesting challenge for the heroes of the respective shows in which he appears.” Link: http://www.cbr.com/black-flash-to-return-on-multiple-arrowverse-series/ ‘Constantine' Back As Animated Series For CW Seed With Greg Berlanti Producing (Date: 08 Jan 2017) Constantine, which had a one-season run on NBC, will be back as an animated series for CW Seed. Five to six 10-minute episodes have been ordered. Matt Ryan, who starred in the live-action DC series, will voice the title character. However, we can see that the impish villain won't look anything like he does in the DC Comics source material, where he's traditionally depicted as an older, diminutive character. Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Ira Yarborough for 1944's “Superman” #30, Mister Mxyzptlk is a mischievous imp from the fifth dimension who delights in tormenting the Man of Steel. Link: http://www.cbr.com/supergirl-casts-peter-gadiot-as-mister-mxyzptlk/ THE CW HAS ‘NO PLANS' FOR A SUPERMAN SERIES (Date: 08 Jan 2017) “Tyler did a great job,” The CW President Mark Pedowitz said. “There's no plan to do a series. There are no plans at the moment for him to return [to ‘Supergirl']. If they wish to have him return, we'd love to have him.” Link: http://www.cbr.com/the-cw-has-no-plans-for-a-superman-series/ THE FLASH Will Weave Kid Flash, Killer Frost And Gypsy Story Arcs Into Remaining Season 3 Episodes (Date: 07 Jan 2017) Armed with that knowledge Barry and his allies will be frantically searching for ways to prepare for an inevitable second round with the God of Speed. As for the rest of Team Flash, the co-showrunner adds that Gypsy (played by the recently cast Jessica Camacho of Sleepy Hollow) will be playing an important adversarial role in Cisco's budding superhero career, Caitlin will continue to wrestle with her Killer Frost alter ego and Wally West will continue to fly off the handle and cause trouble as Kid Flash. The Justice Society captures the team, believing them to be Nazi spies. Nate reveals that he is the grandson of JSA member Commander Steel. After the JSA is assigned a mission to obtain information on Nazi Captain Baron Krieger, they release the team and strongly advises them to leave 1942. The JSA learns that Krieger was given a serum by Eobard, who wants to make a deal for an amulet in Hitler's possession. Nate soon discovers that the JSA dies on this mission, so the team travels back to rescue them. While the others collect the amulet and fight the Nazis, Krieger uses the serum on himself and turns into a monstrous superhuman. He manages to capture Ray and JSA member Amaya. Ray offers to replicate the formula to save Amaya. The teams then attack the Nazi base, save Ray and Amaya, and take down Krieger. However, hemophiliac Nate is critically injured in the process. Ray saves him by using the modified serum he developed. After the team departs, Eobard appears at the JSA headquarters and stabs Rex Tyler to erase him from the timeline before stealing the amulet. A dying Rex whispers "time traveler" to Amaya.

This week, we join the Legends in 1942, the year in which they were doomed to die as they team-up with the Justice Society of America. But before they join forces, the JSA captures the Legends in a battle where they show off their coordination and super powers. Our "team" just cannot keep up! The JSA deliberate how to best deal with the Legends, who at best belong in a mental institution according to their assessment, and refuse to believe their time travel story. Dr. Heywood reveals intimate details about Commander Steel, details only a very close family member would know, and we learn Dr. Heywood has met his own grandfather who died before he was born. The JSA release the Legends from their prison and they explain how and when they have met Rex Tyler. In flashback, Rex Tyler informs the team they will all die in 1942 and proceeds to vanish right before their eyes. Tyler has no recollection of this encounter because for him, in 1942, it hasn't happened yet. We cut to Paris 1942 and see Eobard Thawne meeting with Herr Krieger to give him a super serum. His goal is to destroy the JSA and deliver America to Hitler on a silver platter. He is also searching for an amulet with mysterious powers. In a less then democratic fashion, Dr. Stein is named captain of the Legends and the team decide how best to continue on their mission of preventing aberrations. Sara tries to kick Dr. Heywood off the team, but they discover his dog tags have disappeared and the JSA is in mortal danger. They return to 1942 to save the JSA. Dr. Stein goes undercover as Max Lorenz, a famous Austrian singer, and treats us to a rendition of Edelweiss. Meanwhile, the team is working to procure intel on the whereabouts of the amulet. After Ray refuses to salute Hitler, a brawl ensues and the rest of the JSA come to the rescue. After convincing the JSA they need their help, our Legends track down the convoy carrying the amulet. During the battle, Ray and Vixen are captured by Herr Krieger. As Sara and Rex deliberate on the best way to complete the mission, Ray comes up with a plan to free himself and Vixen with a microscope. The JSA and the Legends work together to recover Ray and Vixen and return to the Waverider. As they are heading back, Dr. Heywood and Commander Steel encounter a bomb and Dr. Heywood is critically injured. Ray saves the day when he injects Dr. Heywood with an improved version of the super serum, saving his life. The JSA and the Legends say their goodbyes and our team leaves 1942. In the closing scene, we see Rex Tyler stowing the amulet for safekeeping. Eobard Thawne speeds into their lair and kills Rex Tyler to prevent him from warning the Legends not to return to 1942. He takes the amulet and Vixen finds Rex Tyler, dying, who tells her a time traveler has killed him. Join in the discussion by sending feedback to sibercastfan@gmail.com. Per Degaton: Per Degaton is a longtime DC Comics supervillain, who has battled against the Justice Society, Infinity Inc. and the Time Masters in the comics. Michael Bailey and Scott H. Gardner bring you yet another exciting installment of the show recently voted one of the 10 best on the internet! "This is a true labour of love it seems. Michael Bailey and Two True Freaks’ Scott Gardner host this great little show. Tales of the Justice Society of America is a sort of issue by issue analysis of the Justice Society and associated characters since the 1970′s revival of All Star Comics. It covers All Star Comics 58-74, the Adventure Comics back up strips and around episode 31 it started looking at the All Star Squadron, a period piece set in the 1940′s of DC’s Earth 2 spotlighting the lesser known golden age heroes like Johnny Quick, Liberty Belle and Shining Knight as well as retconned characters like Firebrand and Commander Steel. The issues are reviewed and then there are tangents and related conversations, e-mails and a look at the adds, the highlight of which are the hostess fruit pies ads. If you don’t love the JSA by the start, you’ll be closer after the first episode." -- http://liverpoolmunky76.wordpress.com/2014/06/06/podcasts/ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This time around, the fellas take a look at All-Star Squadron #39 -- the penultimate chapter of the Detroit Race-Riots Saga! Also -- Infinity, Inc. #8 features "The Generations Saga" barreling toward its exciting conclusion! And, finally, there's "Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse - Crisis Management Edition" in which the guys discuss the Pre-Crisis Monitor appearances for November, 1984!
