Call Your Sister is a podcast for related and unrelated sisters or CYS everywhere co-hosted by Alexandra Hodge and Astrid Ferguson. Every week, Alex and Astrid call each other to discuss the complexities of motherhood, sisterhood, identity struggles, dating as a single mother, sex and much more. We’re real Latinx sisters who are fiercely opinionated, and not afraid to realtalk each other about everything from (men)strual cycles and body shaming to the Platanos versus Yuccas debates and current identity life drama. We highlight women who are both trying to keep it together and got it all figured out. We also care deeply about the lived experiences of BIPOC and Lantinx women who are just trying to get through the week. We’re here for every facet of women’s humanity because we are a community, a nation of CYS everywhere.

In this episode sisters Alex and Astrid return from vacation to discuss the Roe v Wade overturn and what that means for society. Sisters raise some questions and logistics that were not considered. This includes health complications, the rising healthcare cost, the formula shortage, amount of children in foster care currently homeless and much more. It is a difficult time for women and families alike. The power of choice is slowly being removed and America is blurring the lines between religion and state each day. Sisters are at a loss for words as to what to do next as it is highly dependent on the states. Do we want to go back in time when pro-lifers were blocking abortion clinic entrances? Do we want witness doctors being killed in cold blood because of their medical practices? Do we want absolve women of the power of choice for their healthcare needs? There is much at stake with the overturn of Roe v Wade and hopefully, the families who want to continue having choices on when and how to extend their families will find viable solutions during this unprecedented time.Sisters are open to hearing of possible solutions.Don't forget to follow us on our social media accounts:https://www.callyoursisterpodcast.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cys_podcast Facebook: Call Your Sister PodcastTwitter: @CYS_PodEmail: cysnation@gmail.comSupport the show

In this episode sisters, Alexandra Hodge and Astrid Ferguson, discuss the top five characteristics of emotional intelligence and how the pandemic has caused a decline in social skills. Many of us have been noticing the over stimulation while in the office. We find the noise, small talk, and even the clock ticking as a distraction. This all has to deal with a decline in our social skills. It is only natural that after two years of socialization reduced to a mute button and a screen that most of us forgot to hold the door for each other as a sign of courtesy. Many have been watching the news of the Buffalo, NY racial hate crime to the Texas recent elementary school shooting while clinching our teeth. It is seriously scary out there. However, we can peel back the layers and discover underneath it all--an overlooked mental health condition. As sisters wrap up mental health awareness month, check out different ways you can raise your emotional intelligence. Being more emotionally intelligent helps us all become more aware of our emotions and foster more meaningful relationships with others. We cannot save or change everyone, but we can save each other some pain.Don't forget to follow us on our social media accounts:https://www.callyoursisterpodcast.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cys_podcast Facebook: Call Your Sister PodcastTwitter: @CYS_PodEmail: cysnation@gmail.comSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/cyspodcast)Support the show

After a couple of weeks of overcoming colds, company trips/engagements, and just life turning sisters Alexandra Hodge and Astrid Ferguson into  anti-social bums, they decided to come back for a little catch-up. As many are aware, Kevin Samuels passing along with more pressing matters like the supreme court voting on the case of Roe vs. Wade implications on women's bodies. While Kevin Samuels suggested that women who were over an 8 were the only women capable of catching a six-figure income earning man, he failed to highlight once again, that women bodies continue to be mans favorite topic of choice. Hence in the Roe vs. Wade leaning towards banning abortions claiming it is the "Christian" thing to do. While sisters do not necessarily believe in abortions they do believe that it should remain a woman's choice to have or not have children. Kevin Samuels passing is unfortunate. Sadly the women who he spoke about in a degrading manor, are neither moved nor concerned with his passing. That is something many are still unable to grapple with. So sisters simply say listen to your emotions and attend to them the best way you know how. Only you know what either of these important topics mean to you and strongly suggest you exercise your rights.Don't forget to follow us on our social media accounts:https://www.callyoursisterpodcast.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cys_podcast Facebook: Call Your Sister PodcastTwitter: @CYS_PodEmail: cysnation@gmail.comSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/cyspodcast)Support the showSupport the show

Hence, Alex shares the added layer of raising a an autistic child to the complexities and it makes it that much harder. Single moms are overwhelmed and should not have to do it all. The same can be said about single fathers. Although they are not highlighted as often. Co-parenting is harder to do when two parents are constantly competing and expectations on who should be doing what for the child exist. Ideally, both parents should be contributing to raise a child in a positive environment (in the same or different households). In this series we become fully immersed in the lives of five girlfriends (Zuri, Lara, Tami, Adesuwa, and Ladun). This series allowed us to see how our relationships can either foster our poor spending habits or inspire us to create smart money habits. Cheyenne is a screenwriter and works in film, so naturally, she loves highlighting films like these that cause us to raise our eyebrows and look inward. We discuss which character we related to the most (Zuri, Lara, Tami, Adesuwa, or Ladun) and why. We share how Astrid felt incredibly close to Lara, the tough oil and gas executive, who takes care of her entire family to only feel unappreciated and disrespected. We discuss the difference between helping and enabling family members. The importance of having an LLC when you own a business and what to consider when opening up a joint account with a significant other. This one is a mouthful and you won't want to miss. Then go watch the Netflix series The Smart Money Women and tell us your thoughts! Perished Goods!? An Open Discussion about a Kevin Samuels Follower

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 8, 2021 79:42

In this episode we (Alexandra and Astrid) discuss dating a single mom in 2021. After reading a Kevin Samuels fan personal statement—dating a single mom should only be optional if she gives full custody of her child(ren) to her baby daddy. Now, this is not new. Single mother's have been accused of many frowns throughout history. Alex and Astrid understand the dating scene can be quite cruel towards single moms.As if being a single parent isn't hard enough, we add shame and judgement making single parents (mostly single moms) feel hopeless in the love department. Listen as these two sisters discuss the importance of  re-considering how to date in 2021. Women are becoming more independent while men, well…are still expecting submission. It's a tug of war and love doesn't seem to be winning. Kevin Samuels fans believe in his ideology that prestige and image is what everyone must aspire to have or relinquish to mediocrity. Mediocrity includes being a single mom who should settle for whatever because she is considered perished goods.Don't forget to follow us on our social media accounts:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cys_podcast Facebook: Call Your Sister PodcastTwitter: @CYS_PodEmail: cysnation@gmail.comSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/cyspodcast)

The Fish Are Sick! ... Why is Dating So Hard?

In this episode sisters Alexandra Hodge and Astrid Ferguson discuss why dating is so hard. We debate about the importance of keeping your options open leading up to marriage or in a fully committed relationship. How dating life has changed and how flexibility becomes the most important factor to finding happiness, especially if dating during a pandemic. It's no secret, we have all experienced being deceived and lied to. Most of us struggle identifying what we truly seek in a relationship. Some of us have a difficult relationship with ourselves, let alone a partner. In this new generation transparency is the number one thing people value. However, have we ever really truly discussed what being completely transparent means and how we react to those who are fully transparent? Ever noticed How easy it is to check off honesty before loyalty? How kindness is repeatedly viewed as a weakness because we desire edgy, cool, familiar, and reject opening ourselves to a new outlook? Alexandra seems to struggle finding dating as an opportunity for discovery. She appears to be very judgemental and feels that this new generation is too open.Astrid speaks from a lens of longevity and what it means to look beyond dating as she is happily married. So with two opposing views these sisters discuss and agree that what used to work no longer works today. Settling is what many of our parents and older family members used to do. So Astrid challenges that if the idea is not to join the likely 50% of divorces, maybe we should reconsider how we approach dating.? At least that is the premises of this discussion between two sisters with very opposing views.Don't forget to follow us on our social media accounts:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cys_podcast Facebook: Call Your Sister PodcastTwitter: @CYS_PodEmail: cysnation@gmail.comSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/cyspodcast)

It is primarily inflicted by individuals who have either narcissistic personality disorder (NPD, which is characterized by a lack of empathy), or antisocial personality disorder (ASPD, also known as sociopaths or psychopaths), and is associated with the absence of a conscience (Listen to episodes 3 & 4 if you want to learn more about possibly being in a toxic relationship and or our commentary episode 27 where we discuss the netflix special of Malcolm and Marie) Approximately one in every 10 people is walking around without a conscience, or at best, lacks empathy. According to the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), the prevalence in the general population for antisocial personality disorder is estimated at 3.3% percent and the prevalence of narcissistic personality disorder is as high as 6% percent. There are approximately 326 million people in the U.S. (The U.S. population has increased) and 6% percent of them have narcissistic personality disorder, which equals 19,560,000people. Prior to this act, sexualt assualt and domestic abuse against women was not considered a crime.
