Temp Fans is a podcast that explores the complete studio discography of legacy, popular, or downright obscure artists. We started out as a Facebook group where we listen to an album a day by a chosen artist, from start to finish, even the bad bits. And that's what this podcast is. Join us as we dive through the good, the bad and the what? Take your time and listen along. Feel free to pause us and go listen on Spotify or wherever to the albums. Or go to our Spotify playlist where you will find the pod spliced up and inserted into a curated playlist of selected tracks. To date Nick and Ewan have been joined by an ever growing roster of guests, who all have one thing in common; they want the chance to talk about artists that inspire passion in them. That's not to say this is a gushfest, there are plenty of dissenting opinions on the way. As we dive through the discographies, why not dive through our past episodes and listen to: John Tansey on The Pogues Ben Zimmer, Emily Baldoni, Lael Wageneck, Steven Miller, Zoë Von Hess, Jonathan Fisher, and Emma McDermott on David Bowie Nick Hilditch, Brendan Quigley and Aron T White on The Butthole Surfers Ben Zimmer, Jesse Jarnow, and Jeffrey Lewis on Yo La Tengo Aron T White and Chris Whitby on Can Ewan, Emily Baldoni, and William Shunn on Spoon Scott Donald and Si Sharp on QOTSA Nick Hilditch, John Henderson, Fliss Kitson, J Fisher, Zoë Von Hess, Joe Mitchell, James Kennedy, Mike Plowman, Aaron Troy White, and Tansy McNally on The Fall Emily Baldoni, Gavin Hogg, and Paul Hanley on Love Christopher Whitby and Glenn Hodgson on Number Girl Zoë Von Hess, Cheri Amour, and Chris Whitby on ESG Chris Whitby, Cheri Amour, and Nick Taylor on Mclusky and Future of the Left Aaron Troy White and Lael Wageneck on Neutral Milk Hotel

I invited guitarist for Delta Sleep, Glen Hodgson on to talk us through what is and isn't Math Rock. We got some answers for sure, but I still can never put my finger on what makes something "mathy". I regale Glen with phrases from the early 90s like "wazzy" which just makes me feel old. We also talk about being in Delta Sleep, touring, music production, the Albini sound, and a bunch of other stuff. We work our way from Slint, through Don Caballero, Toe, Pretend, Faraquet, up to Real Terms. This took me a while to think up the name for this eclectic journey through the music tastes of Head Honcho at Tiny Global Productions, John Henderson. I think I got it right in the end, despite me using my bad mic by mistake (though it's OK as John does 90% of all the talking) We take a look at artists who just do, or did, their own thing, hard to pinpoint in any specific genre, sometimes on the cusp of greatness, sometimes on the outskirts. Regardless it's a great selection of tunes from Rocksteady, to Hippy Folk, and much much more. THERE IS NO SPOTIFY PLAYLIST THIS TIME AS IT WOULD ONLY BE HALF FULL!!!! "I'd pay money to hear her fart down a Walkie-Talkie"So we find ourselves in the latter half of the solo work of Icelandic legend Björk. First of all we had major tech-issues with this one. Hopefully it's not too distracting and we promise never to do it again. Nick brings back his trademarked "Party Björk to Arty Björk" phrase to a much better reception. Ewan had real issues with "one of the most important pieces of music of the century". Emily loves an album no-one else did and Liam veers between love, admiration and disappointment. And we all mispronounce something at least once. In this episode we discuss these records: Medúlla (2004) Volta (2007) Biophillia (2011) Vulnicura (2015) Utopia (2017) NOTE: This was originally intended to be released much earlier in the season so we may reference that, Yes we are still amateurs!! Oh, and we are all slightly shocked by how long it took One Little Independent to change their name. There was a huge tech issue in post-production and if you barely notice it then Ewan deserves a medal. It's a long one, so buckle up Nick and Ewan are joined again by Ben Zimmer, Jesse Jarnow, and Jeffrey Lewis to talk through the work of Yo La Tengo this century. We get side-tracked a little by Ewan getting excited about Slade. As you know Ben is a renowned linguist and lexicographer, and big Yo La Tengo fan. Jeffrey is, quite simply, a phenomenal musician, singer, songwriter, and comic book artist; he is also a massive Yo La Tengo fan. Jesse? Well Jesse literally wrote the book on Yo La Tengo: Big Day Coming: Yo La Tengo and the rise of Indie Rock. Join us for an in depth look at the second half of the career of Yo La Tengo, and see if the band re-find that loud sound from their early years. As usual, take your time.
