http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Let's go whip ups some beignets and preview the new Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland on this episode of Attraction Checklist.  Attraction audio recorded on November 5, 2024 . TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we head to Disneyland's newley christened Bayou Country to ride Tiana's Bayou Adventure. The Disneyland website describes this attraction saying: Drop on in and come along for the ride with Princess Tiana on an exhilarating musical adventure.  The thrill level describes the attraction as being a Thrill Ride that is a water ride with big drops. Before we head to the bayou, here are five fast facts about Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland. 1. In June of 2020, Disney announced they would be re-theming Splash Mountain at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom to Tiana's Bayou adventure, based on the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog. 2. The Magic Kingdom version of the attraction opened on June 28, 2024 and the Disneyland version is scheduled to open on November 15, 2024.  The audio for this episode was recorded during Magic Key holder previews on November 5, 2024. 3.  In September 2022, it was announced that several voice actors from the original film would be reprising their roles to provide voices for the attraction.  This includes Anika Noni Rose as Tiana and Michael-Leon Wooley as Lewis 4. Tiana's Bayou Adventure features 48 audio animatronics in the attraction including several state of the art figures for Tiana and Lewis. 5. The storyline of the attraction has Tiana's Foods built on a salt dome.  This inspiration was taken from the Avery Island salt dome in Louisiana.  Let's hop a log to Tiana's Foods.  After the ride audio I'll give you my thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphone put them on now as we ride Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disneyland! This week Dr. Shane Bernard tells us the history of Avery Island in Louisiana, including fascinating stories about the conservation efforts of E. A. “Ned” McIlhenny (1872-1949), the son of TABASCO® Sauce inventor E. McIlhenny. As the story goes, this man single handedly saved the imperiled Snowy Egret by creating protected sanctuary on the island that by 1911, had a thriving population over 100,000 birds.  E. A. also banded over 300,000 birds and waterfowl to learn their migration habits, along with authoring a book with Charles Jordan about wild turkeys. The 2200 acre island also is home to a subspecies of whitetail deer thought to only live on the island. Shane, an accomplished author himself, is the historian and curator for the McIlhenny family and the TABASCO brand, who shares some great stories with us. You'll be surprised. In many ways, this book is about how to recover from the addictions all of us wrestle with. Substance addiction is the clearest example of the spiritual poverty in our culture today, but gambling, pornography, spending, and unhealthy eating also erode our spiritual awareness of God's grace. Ultimately, we're all addicted, or attached to caustic habits of thought and action that distance us by degrees from the God who created us for happiness. The Prayer can help. This week in Louisiana history. October 15, 1802. Spanish king Charles IV ordered retrocession of Louisiana from Spain to France. This week in New Orleans history.  Nicolas-Ignace de Beaubois (October 15, 1689 – January 13, 1770) was a French Jesuit priest and missionary who joined the Canadian mission in Quebec in 1719. Beaubois spent a training period in Quebec and began his spreading of religious doctrine among the Illinois Indians in 1721. On 2 Feb. 1723, at Kaskaskia, Illinois he took the vows of a Jesuit. Because of the expansion of the Mississippi valley missions, the Jesuits had made the area a distinct mission district within the diocese of Quebec and Beaubois became the superior. He immediately went to France to populate and strengthen the new jurisdiction. The Compagnie des Indes was responsible for funding the parishes and missions in the Missio Ludovisiana district and he was successful in negotiating appropriate funding for future operations. He obtained authorization for the Jesuits to open a house in New Orleans and to have a plantation near the city for supplementing their operation. Beaubois also arranged to have Ursuline nuns funded to establish a girls' school in New Orleans. This became the first girls' school in the Mississippi valley. This week in Louisiana. Observe wildlife of fish from the pier over the Vermilion River at Palmetto Island State Park. Palmetto Island State Park's very name hints at the untamed wildness you can expect in this southern corner of the state. Palmettos, those shaggy, tropical trees found all over the swamps, grow alongside tall cypress and other Louisiana native plants, giving the park an air of authenticity — this is as unspoiled as south Louisiana gets. The Vermilion River runs through the Palmetto Island State Park. The most scenic way of reaching the river is via a boat launch near the center of the park, which also offers canoeists and kayakers easy access to narrow channels and tucked-away lagoons. Canoes are available for rent by the hour or day. Though the waterways here are the main attraction, the .7-mile-long Cypress Trail also allows visitors a close-up look at Palmetto Island State Park's jungle-like ecology. At the nearby visitor center, you'll find a water playground and bathhouse, and six cabins that give overnight guests a front-row seat to the symphony of native animal calls emerging from the swamps. "Huey Long's use of the phrase “lyingnewspapers” to discredit negative publicity is commonly cited as evidence of his negative relationship with the mainstream press, but he did not always hold a hostile view toward newspapers. Before the press turned against him during his enemies' attempt to impeach him as governor in 1929, newspapers were one of his central tools for political advancement. He devised strategies to attract press attention and relied on newspapers to publicize himself and propagate his ideas more frequently and consistently than he used circulars or radio broadcasts, which are commonly attributed to his political success. As with all populists, his disruptive ideas and behavior threatened the status quo and provoked hostile responses from the political and economic elite. The negative publicity he received as a result of their opposition and criticism worked to his advantage, however, because the press gave him a platform to defend himself and explain his perspective." He, a scholar on the hot stuff, joins Errol Laborde, executive editor of Louisiana Life, along with podcast producer Kelly Massicot to talk about, not just the sauce, but its home base of Avery Island, one of the few places in Louisiana where there has been mining activity below the ground. In this case, for salt. Oh yes, we'll also here about his dad, a former swamp pop superstar, and the surprising revelation of where the barrels come from that are used to age the Tabasco mash.

Propelled in part by surging demand during the pandemic, people spent more than $610 billion on Amazon over the 12 months ending in June. Walmart on Tuesday posted sales of $566 billion for the 12 months ending in July. Alibaba, the giant online Chinese retailer, is the world's top seller. Neither Amazon nor Walmart is a dominant player in China. - Two-thirds of Americans are obsessive about one thing in particular in their homes — their spot on the sofa. A new survey finds that 66 percent admit to having unofficial assigned seating throughout their homes. Americans are so loyal to their favorite spots, that they'll argue with another family member about sitting in their “spot” twice a month. Whether it's at the kitchen table, dad's recliner, or the family couch — 68 percent of respondents say they're very passionate about their “spot.” Did you know your brain boots up in the morning just like a computer? As we yawn and open our eyes the brain stem sends little puffs of nitric oxide to another part of the brain, the thalamus, which then directs it elsewhere. Like a computer booting up its operating system before running more complicated programs, the nitric oxide triggers certain functions that set the stage for more complex brain operations. … A study says these first moments of the day, sensory information floods the system — the bright sunlight coming through the curtains, the time on the screeching alarm clock — and all of it needs to be processed and organized, so the brain can understand its surroundings and begin to perform more complex tasks. WACKY-BUT-TRUE: FIRE DEPARTMENT RESCUES DOG FROM COUCH _ You've heard of firefighters helping cats stuck up a tree, but what about a dog stuck in a couch? The fire department in Essex Junction, Vermont, responded to that situation last week. According to a Facebook post, a medium-sized dog got trapped under a couch and its leg was being wedged by a metal part. The couch could not be moved without further hurting the pup, so firefighters got to work. For about 30 minutes, they used many tools to disassemble the metal parts of the couch. Finally, they were able to get the dog's leg free. It was taken to the vet for a cut. Louisiana Coushatta Basket Makers brings together oral histories, tribal records, archival materials, and archaeological evidence to explore the fascinating history of the Coushatta Tribe's famed basket weavers. After settling at their present location near the town of Elton, Louisiana, in the 1880s, the Coushatta (Koasati) tribe developed a basket industry that bolstered the local tribal economy and became the basis for generating tourism and political mobilization. The baskets represented a material culture that distinguished the Coushattas as Indigenous people within an ethnically and racially diverse region.  This week in Louisiana history. July 17, 1795. 418. We talk to Nathan Rabalais about his new book, Folklore Figures of French and Creole Louisiana. Nathan J. Rabalais examines the impact of Louisiana’s remarkably diverse cultural and ethnic groups on folklore characters and motifs during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Establishing connections between Louisiana and France, West Africa, Canada, and the Antilles, Rabalais explores how folk characters, motifs, and morals adapted to their new contexts in Louisiana. In particular, he examines the ways in which collective traumas experienced by Louisiana’s major ethnic groups — slavery, the grand dérangement, linguistic discrimination — resulted in fundamental changes in these folktales in relation to their European and African counterparts. Rabalais points to the development of an altered moral economy in Cajun and Creole folktales. Conventional heroic qualities, such as physical strength, are subverted in Louisiana folklore in favor of wit and cunning. Analyses of Black Creole animal tales like those of Bouki et Lapin and Tortie demonstrate the trickster hero’s ability to overcome both literal and symbolic entrapment through cleverness. Hashtag 59's Season 3 Podcast is 50 Episodes long and each episode will provide SIX outdoor adventures in each of the US's 50 states. We are doing these episodes in ABC Order of the states and episode eighteen is Louisiana. The goal is to give you ideas and opportunities to experience outdoor adventure anywhere and everywhere in the United States of America. Here's our list for Louisiana: 1. Tammany Trace Bike Trail is a hike and bike trail that spans from downtown Covington, through Abita Springs, Mandeville and Lacombe and ends in Slidell. The trail begins at the Covington Trailhead, right across the street from Covington Brewhouse and around the corner from Columbia St. Tap Room & Grill. From there, it runs behind the Abita Brewing Company brewery and into Abita Springs (where the Abita Brew Pub is, which has no affiliation with the brewery), then on to Mandeville, where it passes by Chafunkta Brewing and Old Rail Brewing. Old Rail is a great place to stop — in addition to local beer, it has a solid food menu and plenty of space to stretch out. (Wherever you stop, remember to drink lots of water along the way.) 2. Avery Island: For lovers of hot sauce and leisurely strolls through beautifully manicured parkland is Avery Island, a salt dome just a 20-minute drive from the Cajun town of New Iberia. Every drop of Tabasco hot sauce on Earth is bottled on Avery Island by the McIlhenny Company, the family-owned firm that has been making the world’s most iconic hot sauce since 1868. Visiting here also includes a visit to Avery Island’s Jungle Gardens, 170 acres of beautifully maintained semitropical landscape featuring massive live oaks, bamboo, and a kaleidoscope of flowers, plus alligators, deer, and a lively bird sanctuary that helped rescue the snowy egret from the brink of extinction. 3. New Orleans Jazz Festival - The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, often known as Jazz Fest, is an annual celebration of the music and culture of New Orleans and Louisiana. The term "Jazz Fest" also refers to the days surrounding the festival and the many shows at unaffiliated New Orleans nightclubs scheduled during the festival weekend. 4. Climb Driskill Mountain. 535 feet gets you to the summit of the state. A large pile of rocks marks the “summit.” 48th out of 50 for the US State’s high points. 5. Q50 Trail Running Extravaganza in Bogue Chitto State Park on 2/1. Finishers of the 52 miler and 39 miler get a walking cane and while there are 6 trail run events that day you will only get ONE shirt no matter how many you do. 6. They all started several pet projects which ended up under the umbrella of Elephant 6. The track Ghost played here was a reference to Frank and to a ghost Mangum believed lived in his house. He believed the ghost kept waking him in the night. Oh Comely (8+ minutes) was recorded in one take. At the end of the track you can hear an astonished bandmate cry "Holy shit" in amazement. On the final track, Two Headed Boy Part II, Mangum can be heard setting down his guitar and walking away. At the end of Aeroplane's final song, you can hear Jeff Mangum [...] set down his guitar and walk off, and [...] that's exactly what Mangum did in real lifeSlate Other avenues to explore Get brilliant music/TV/film based t-shirts hereCheck out where our Listeners are around the globe hereTake a look at what our Listeners are saying hereSupport our work hereGet social on Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook

One of the most famous condiments in the world celebrated its 150th birthday last year: Tabasco. The famous hot pepper sauce was invented in 1868 by Edmund McIlhenny on Avery Island, Louisiana. Tabasco is still made there today, and the company is still run by McIlhenny's descendants. Visitors can tour the Tabasco museum and factory, dine on Cajun food and even have a bloody mary (spiked with Tabasco, of course). Avery Island is also home to Jungle Gardens, a nature preserve that tells the story of how McIlhenny's son helped save snowy egrets from being wiped out in the U.S.

Few brands invoke immediate recognition, respect and fervor like TABASCO. Since 1868, the legendary hot sauce and its multiple condiment varieties have been produced exclusively by the family-owned McIlhenny Company of Avery Island, Louisiana. We catch up with John Simmons, Senior Manager of Agriculture for TABASCO, who also happens to be a member of the sixth generation of the McIlhenny family involved in the company. He grew up working the pepper fields, coopering barrels and learning all there is to conjuring TABASCO’s magic. John’s direct responsibilities are the agricultural operations--domestically and internationally--the making of TABASCO Sauce, new product development and the company’s sustainability efforts. We then travel all the way back to Snacky Tunes episode #198 and the summer of 2014 to re-visit pedal steel guitar virtuoso Jonny Lam and his band, Honeyfingers. Over the years, Jonny’s been an in-demand player working with the likes of David Byrne, Norah Jones, Billie Joe Armstrong, EmmyLou Harris, Busta Rhymes, Benny Blanco, Keb Mo, Sean Paul, Steve Earle, Pharaoh Sanders, The Blind Boys of Alabama and more. Honeyfingers gave us a live performance of their signature country jazz and western swing sound, and also did a cover of Ray Price’s No. 1 hit, “Crazy Arms.” It was the first time we’ve ever had a pedal steel guitarist on the show, and seeing the instrument up close was amazing.
