In this episode of The Sauna Show, we have Dr. Joy Hussain making her second appearance on the podcast to talk about her latest research paper: The study of whole-body thermal therapy in health and wellness. An extremely exciting time for sauna bathers around the world, particularly for women, as Dr. Hussain explains how she trailed 10 women to take part in this experiment to determine the effects infrared sauna bathing had on the female patients from both a biological and physiological stand-point. Dr. Hussain describes the control (meditative state) and variables' (infrared sauna bathing using a Clearlight infrared sauna and exercise using a bicycle) differentiators, similarities, and key findings. Fascinating in itself, the findings were found to support the notion that Clearlight infrared saunas are beneficial for detoxification, as it was the cause for the 10 women to excrete the highest levels of pesticides (organophosphates) in their sweat when compared to the sweat found from the other two states of being. An eye-opening medical paper and brilliant episode that takes the first look into this pioneering sauna study.

What Is Red Light Therapy With Johannes Kettlehodt

What is red light therapy and how does it work? Most people think of light as something that only allows for visibility of their direct environment. (Sun)light, for instance, allows you to see what's going on around you. And at nighttime, the absence of light makes your environment invisible. Without going into too much detail, the energy-producing processes in your cells are also affected by light in your environment. That basic process of light absorption by photoreceptors brings many fundamental health benefits. This red and infrared light therapy is also frequently described with other names, such as “Low Level Laser Therapy (short: LLLT)”, “LED light therapy”, “photobiomodulation”, and “red light therapy”. In this episode of The Sauna Show both Sebastian and Johannes talk about the fundamentals of understanding Red Light Therapy, how it works, and the options you have out in the market today.

The Power Of A Chi Cycle Lifestyle with Jost Sauer

Jost Sauer is a Dr of Chinese Medicine and has worked with 10's of thousands of people. He is known as the lifestyle medicine man and has a daily 5-hour-practice (3.5 hrs morning, 1.5 at night), which he has only missed once, in over 30 years.  Jost has discovered that if lifestyle is the problem, a different lifestyle is the solution. So he developed a therapeutic lifestyle, based on the ancient Chinese 24-hour chi cycle. This cycle repeats daily and is divided into two-hour brackets. His chi cycle lifestyle, taps into the intelligence of each of these 2 hours, to enable us to build chi, or energy, and create vitality, longevity, health and happiness. He is deeply committed to living by the Chi cycle. Jost has written seven books, and his latest book ‘Clock on to Health' covers how to use your body clock to naturally boost your health and self-heal. I really appreciate teachers and practitioners like Jost, as the live 100% of what he preaches. Jost is 61 years by the time this was recorded and has phenomenal health, he is a walking example of what following the chi cycle can do. In fact, he is ripped, and amidst that, he does his martial arts workouts are similar to what a 30-year-old athlete would do. Jost believes that if you follow your chi cycle it becomes clear to us when to get up, when to work, when and how to eat, sleep, pray, and love - everything you do can be 10x as beneficial towards your health and happiness. In this podcast, Jost and I covered the first part of the day.  He explains how we can flow with our chi cycle to optimise our health and heal disease and what an ideal morning practice could look like according to Chinese medicine. Something to point out is that he distinguishes between physical and energetic organs. For example with our large intestine hours at 5am-7am, which is when we digest and eliminate  the previous day's meal but also last days events and emotions. This understanding basically ensures that we look after body and spirit at the same time and treat them simultaneous not in isolation. His studies also point clearly to the fact that we are following ancient ideas but the practice has evolved and improved since then. I sometimes like to romanticise the thinking that old school ancient practice was the real deal, but Jost has found that ancient teachers have always pointed to holding on to the ideas behind a school of thoughts but to adapt and evolve as time goes on. So upgrades happen to ancient practices too, nice. I hope you enjoy! Please dont forget to review the podcast and let us know who you would like us to interview next. Until next time, have the best day ever!
