Marc Cohen, the amazing Triple-Doc (Medical Doc and 2 x PhD) is back and among other things, this time we discuss the ever-expanding number of toxins we humans need to navigate, avoid and mitigate in an attempt to create, not only a healthy body, but also a healthy lifestyle, home, workplace and day-to-day operating system. Interestingly, not all toxins are chemical; some of them are psychological, emotional and/or sociological. Did you know that just being around certain people can be bad for your physical health? And in better news, the opposite is also true.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dr. Marc Cohen reveals a significant oversight in the celebrated Kuopio Ischemic sauna study, which linked sauna use with a marked decrease in all-cause mortality: the critical role of cold exposure. While the research attributes dramatic health benefits to saunas alone, Dr. Cohen points out that in Finland, the practice inherently includes cold plunges—a factor often excluded in Western interpretations. He explains how alternating between hot and cold amplifies cardiovascular benefits, detoxification, and mental resilience. This episode challenges long-held assumptions and offers practical advice for harnessing the true power of sauna and cold therapy. What kind of SuperAger are you? Take our quiz today and find out! In today's video, clinical Registered Herbalist RH(AHG) speaks to recent TikTok claims of Ashwagandha blunting emotions and causing emotional dullness/apathy. Based on traditional uses and indications of using this Ayurvedic Indian herb, it is possible some people may feel lethargic while using this herb due to a constitutional mismatch. More likely, Ashley explains, is that people are hopping on a trend that pigeon-holes one effect of an herb and discounts other underlying factors. In this video, she will look at the scientific data and research surrounding the use of Ashwagandha and the likely reasons for this upsurge in health claims on TikTok. This episode, we invite you to let it all hang out. Frank and Jenny visit the Finnish Church in London to take a pew in the basement sauna that brings everyone together, not just the congregation. There, rector Marjaana Härkönen talks about the connection between spirit and the sauna – ‘löyly' – and what to drink while you're busy connecting. Now look, we know people banging on about saunas can be as annoying as people banging on about ice baths (hey – we've got an episode on that, too!), but when integrative wellness professor Marc Cohen told us the full gamut of what these sweat boxes can do for our meat vessels, we were genuinely surprised.Always one to look at the worst-case scenario, Jenny recounts the grizzly deaths that occurred at the 2010 World Sauna Championships, and in sweat lodges such as that of one-time Oprah mascot James Arthur Ray. But surely she can see the logic in preparing for the worst (her favourite thing to do) by engaging in hormesis – the act of adapting to stress, such as extreme heat, and thus better preparing for future stresses. Frank's a lucky fella. He works at Peninsula Hot Springs, so he gets to have a sneaky sauna and ice bath combo every day. To make it up to Jenny, he's built a grand stone and wood sauna at her place, together with an ice bath in a converted chest freezer.PS: If you liked this episode, you'll love our sixth episode, Taking the Plunge: Cold Water Immersion.LINKSWellness professor, Dr Marc Cohen Finnish Church in LondonLeave us a voice message for a future episode on SpeakpipeSpirit Levels on InstagramOur newsletter Hosted on Acast. They're incredibly delicious, you get the sourness from the vinegar and the sweetness from the honey. And they're incredible medicines, and they're available to anybody, you can even make them at home. Dr Marc Cohen, PhD There's no other modern wound dressing that is superior to Manuka Honey, just straight on the skin straight from the beehive to your skin to your wound, you can put it straight on an open wound and non-healing wounds and, and also for acne and other skin conditions because it's highly antimicrobial, but it actually destroys the pathogens. Dr Marc Cohen, PhD As long as you go to your local beekeeper go its raw honey, apple cider vinegar, you can make at home. Kombucha vinegar. It's actually easier to make, and most people don't know about kombucha vinegar, but it's more potent than apple cider vinegar, or balsamic or grape vinegar. On this episode of the podcast we chat with Oliver and Marc Cohen. Oliver is a young man that I recently got to know via his delivery of one mean sales pitch. I initially had no intention of using anyones services that morning but our man would not take no for an answer. After convincing me that my windows needed washing I was able to strike up a conversation with Oliver and really get to know him. I was becoming very apparent to me that this was not your average 11 year old and that I was dealing with something different. His knowledge of sales and his singleminded focus struck me as different, a 1 of 1 if you will. As someone who works with kids for a living it was quite easy to see that Oliver was operating at a different level. I also brought his father Marc in to pick his brain some and see if this entrepreneurial was born or bread into him. In what had to be one of my more fun conversations we chat with both Oliver and Marc and get to know them a heck of a lot more. Hope you enjoy this episode of the podcast and thank you for listening.

The Sam Bankman-Fried apology tour continued this week, despite a number of high-profile lawyers — including one who represented Bernie Madoff — saying that SBF really needs to stop talking. Speaking of lawyers: as the bankruptcy winds through the courts, the 30-year-old has hired a new lawyer, Marc Cohen. Cohen had previously been one of the lawyers who represented convicted sex offender Ghislaine Maxwell. Today's episode Renee and Micka sit down with environmental medicine expert Nicole Bijlsma to discuss common factors around that household home that could be causing you and your family illness. She walks through treatment and preventative strategies and how you can make your home a safer environment. Nicole was a former naturopath and acupuncturist with 15 years of clinical experience who changed her career pathway to become a building biologist after noticing a strong correlation with many of her patients illnesses and health hazards in their home. Nicole is the author of the best seller Healthy Home, Healthy Family, was a columnist for Body+Soul (Herald Sun) and is frequently consulted by the media to comment on health hazards in the built environment (The 7PM Project, Sunrise, The Today Show, The Circle, Channel 7 News, Today Tonight, Channel 74, ABC radio, Fox FM, numerous webinars and podcasts).Nicole has thirty years experience lecturing at tertiary institutions in nutrition, Chinese Medicine and environmental medicine, and has published in peer-reviewed journals. Her extensive knowledge in environmental medicine has seen her speak at various conferences both in Australia and abroad (USA, Thailand and New Zealand). Marc Cohen is a doctor that focuses on prevention and keeping people well. A registered medical doctor with a PhD in TCM, Dr Marc has been practising and paving the way for progressive integrative medicine for over three decades. A professor, researcher and contributor to the fields of nutrition, herbal medicine, acupuncture, yoga, meditation, detoxification, bathing, water quality, saunas, hot springs, and elite athletic performance- he is a true gift to the wellness industry. Today Dr Marc joins Mason on the podcast to discuss the Yin and Yang of hot and cold therapy. This conversation moves away from the surface elements of how the hot/cold therapy industry is usually marketed- to the depths of what the Finnish call- 'loyly'- a word that describes the steam that is produced when adding water to the hot sauna rocks but translates to 'Spirit of Life'. Dr Marc talks about the many health benefits of hot and cold therapy with specific techniques for improving your circulation and overall organ function. He discusses how controlling the breath is essential to any hot/cold exposure experience, his go-to hot and cold therapy hacks that anyone can try at home, and the common sense safety protocols he recommends. Like many conversations we air on the podcast, the golden thread that runs through this conversation is finding that sweet spot where the Yin and Yang are balancing. Dr Marc explains the importance of balancing hot and cold therapy with equal amounts of deep relaxation and how, when following this method, we find the sweet bliss point of homeostasis. This conversation will ignite (or reignite) inspiration for hot/cold exposure and maintaining the Yin and the Yang in all facets of life. Marc and Mason discuss: -Saunas. -Ice baths. -Hot springs. -Hot therapy. -Cold therapy. -Thermodynamics. -Heated hammocks -Forced mindfulness. -The key to cold immersion. -The Yin and Yang of hot/cold therapy. -Getting comfortable in the uncomfortable. -The health benefits of hot and cold therapy -Finding the blissful midpoint of homeostasis. -The benefits of sauna for people with heart disease. -Hacks to put your body into parasympathetic mode. The state of health of the individual receiving care is connected to the forms of help and care provided by caregivers. Yet despite this analogy, Federal employment statistics indicate that long-term care workforce concerns remain at a 'crisis' level. As per American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living statistics from the January Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Situation data, a 6.7% drop in the assisted living workforce indicates a loss of 31,200 caregivers, from 463,100 workers in February 2020 to 431,900 in January 2022. Thus, to provide better care for millions of older Americans, the United States needs a roadmap to a sustainable, reinvented workforce of professional caregivers. To this end, today's episode of This Is Getting Old features Part 8: Long-Term Care Workforce and Caregiving of the 10-part AARP/ Age-Friendly Social Innovation Challenge. Watch the full episode or listen to the podcast to learn more about valuable programs and innovative solutions specifically designed for older adults and healthcare providers. Key points covered in this episode: ✔️Partake Into Leoña And The Long-Term Care Workforce's Case Scenario The case study for Leoña:a Leoña was 58 years old, came to D.C. four years ago from Nigeria, and worked as a home health aide. She had been a hospital nurse in her home country, skilled and experienced, but she didn't feel seen by her bosses. She felt a real connection to her patients but found the work very hard, and she had difficulty with this kind of work. She needed to find a way to care for herself and her family while still being up for the challenge of helping her clients. ✔️ Long-term Care Workforce - Problem Statement Leoña is burned out and will leave the field if we don't start listening to her and paying her more than an hourly wage. Working in a flawed long-term care system, she lacks a way to be heard, valued, and advance in her career. ✔️ Innovative Solutions— Leoña As An Essential Worker Given the political moment, the time is right to call for systemic change and create a better individual situation for Leoña. This include: becoming a salaried employee receiving local recognition securing employer-employee communication, succession planning around important work that she was doing ✔️ More Ways To Help Leoña The team passionately asserts that caregiver Leona should be recognized as an essential worker—she is like a firefighter. There were different levels of recognition that caregivers should have, and they should have people on the team who had experience with offering rewards and awards to people in their localities. ✔️ Giving Voice To Our Unheard Caregivers There was also the recognition caregivers like Leoña do not feel heard. Leoña and caregivers should be able to tell their stories and set goals that will place them on a career ladder. We wanted her and people like her to be able to identify these challenges and begin to work with their employers to overcome challenges. You can also check out Episode 69 with Dr. Marc Cohen, where we discuss the basics of how long-term care is paid for now - and talk about future trends for the long-term care insurance industry. You may also have another idea for a solution - or know of a program that would help older adults and their families facing similar challenges.
