Three Way Theater is a podcast dedicated to pro wrestling, movies, and pro wrestling movies! Hosted by Mike Paiva, Lumberjake, and JC the boys review the best & worst in Movies, TV, and pro wrestling PPVs!
Happy Anniversary! We celebrated Three Way Theater's three year anniversary in style as Mike, Lumberjake, and JC invaded the New England Fan Fest 7 hanging out in 'Podcast Row' and talking with various fans and vendors from the event which took place live from the Crowne Plaza in Warwick, RI. They're joined by the craziest shell-head professional wrestling has ever known in Steve "The Turtle" Weiner (@SteveTheTurtle), a maniac once some apricot brandy touches his lips (do turtles have lips?). Steve hangs out trying to sell the boys on a masked spider gimmick while crooning some tunes leading to a big finale singing "Jive Soul Bro." We also speak with film director Richard Chandler (@BostonUndead), who was on hand at Fan Fest to promote his pro wrestling horror film Parts Unknown! We were psyched to speak with him and purchased the DVD so we would be able to formally review it for an upcoming episode. You can find more information about Rich and his production company at https://www.bostonfilmfamily.com! [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYrzgrUN1gs] Plus we get words with The Colony's Green Ant, Ms. Peacock herself Sierra, JP Griffin, "Insane" Dick Lane, and a fantastic BUH-BYE from the legend himself Cody Boyns! We'll be uploading additional episodes from Fan Fest featuring interviews from Mario Mancini, Paul Roma, MLW World Champion "Filthy" Tom Lawlor, NE Pro Hall of Famer Ebony Blade, the Defense of BodySlam with Atlee Greene, and more! We’re back with another edition of Three Way Theater with the B I G four oh as we finally review 1991's Pro Wrestling TV Movie of the failed television pilot Tag Team starring “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Jesse “The Body” Ventura” as pro wrestlers turned police officers (??). Mike, Lumberjake, and JC also discuss the amazing TV commercials from 1991, if Tag Team is a secret sequel to Bodyslam, and if a piano could actually smash through a building wall and obliterate a pick up truck parked below. You can watch Tag Team NOW on YouTube, along with its amazing commercials included. Did you know Three Way Theater is headed to the New England Fan Fest!? Buy your tickets now! PAIGE HERE! It's finally here, the episode you've all been waiting for as Three Way Theater goes to the movies when we review Fighting With My Family starring Florence Pugh as Paige and The Rock as The Rock! Our first time getting to go to the movies together, the boys have a broad discussion about Paige's road to the WWE, the trailers, movie theater etiquette, The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family documentary that inspired the film, THAT sex tape joke, and the creative license being used in the movie. Born into a tight-knit wrestling family, Paige and her brother Zak are ecstatic when they get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to try out for the WWE. But when only Paige earns a spot in the competitive training program, she must leave her loved ones behind and face this new cutthroat world alone. Paige's journey pushes her to dig deep and ultimately prove to the world that what makes her different is the very thing that can make her a star. The boys are hanging out during one of their recent ring rentals on the eve of watching Fighting With My Family, breaking down the big news that Chris Hemsworth had signed on to play the role of Hulk Hogan in a Netflix biopic directed by Todd Phillips! Discussing the competing (??) Vince McMahon biopic Pandemonium and the Netflix film Mike, Lumberjake, and JC fantasy cast some of the biggest stars of the 80s while getting hype for the big feature film debut of Paige. Brian Cairo and "Retro" Anthony Greene drop in for some surprise cameos, and and Mikey is super excited with the What Women Want sequel What Men Want. IT'S... IT'S.... DOOOOOOMSDAY!!!!! Join Mike, Lumberjake, and JC for our trip down memory lane to the year 1996, just weeks before the wrestling landscape changed forever when Scott Hall showed up on WCW Monday Nitro to kick off the nWo storyline when we review WCW Uncensored 1996 featuring the DOOMSDAY CAGE MATCH, an event of epic proportions. The boys are joined by Todd Harris, no sorry, Brett Ryan Gosselin (Ruth Bader Ginsburg?) for this very special event, and we have a lot of fun riffing on the awesome opening video promo and the promos of The Road Warriors. JC also tries to valiantly chronicle the history of Ed Leslie while the boys debate the nostalgia of World Championship Wrestling. Yabba Dabba, Eh? It's another episode of Three Way Theater as Mike, Lumberjake, and JC return to the world of pro wrestling animation as they review The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age Smackdown! Can Fred, Barney. Wilma and the gang compare to the adventures of Scooby-Doo? (SPOILER: They can't). Bedrock gets bodyslammed in this no-holds-barred animated special featuring Fred, Barney and the whole gang meeting up with stone age versions of the WWE superstars and divas! When the prehistoric pals attend their very first WWE Live Main Event, they come face to face with Vince McMagma (voiced by Vince McMahon), John Cenastone (voiced by John Cena), CM Punkrock (voiced by CM Punk), Goldbolder (voiced by Bill Goldberg), Nikki and Brie Boulder (voiced by Nicole and Brianna Garcia) and others for a rockin' adventure that pulls no punches! The boys really struggled to stretch this out to a full length episode just as much as the producers did to make this a 'feature film', but they sure try! The guys talk Ghostbusters 3, Mikey gives everyone their own Bedrock names, and the guys meander along to a limp conclusion (just like this movie). New Year, New Us! It's 2019 and we're starting things off HUGE on Three Way Theater with one of our most requested films of all-time when the boys finally review Carl Reiner's The One & Only starring the Fonz himself Henry Winkler. 1951: Andy Schmidt is in his last year of college. Taking life easy and always a saucy joke on his lips, he manages to win fellow student Mary's heart, although she's already otherwise engaged. But getting a job after college turns out much harder than he expected. Most directors take offense at his free interpretation of his roles. Desperate, he tries in wrestling. To avoid getting beaten up he stages the fights - and incidentally invents show-wrestling. While Mikey and Jake immediately fell in love with Andy Schmidt JC had some issues with the character even coming up with a very specific conspiracy theory regarding Schmidt. Plus Mikey talks bamboozling his girlfriend into watching the movie, Dustin Hoffman's connection to the movie, the feature film debut of "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, and so much more all on Episode #37 of TWT! The One & Only is available to rent and purchase on Amazon Prime, and is also available on YouTube if you know how to search.
It's that time of year again as Mike, Lumberjake, and JC gather together to celebrate their insane decision to review pro wrestling, movies, and pro wrestling movies. What was the best movie we saw in 2018? Who was the best guest host on Best in Show? Who had the best bod? And will Lumberjake be able to top his musical medley from last year? All these questions will be answered plus more as we see who walks away with the illustrious Peacock Award on this very special night. A big thanks to all our listeners who voted in this years Peackies, and thank you for listening to our very specific brand of weird throughout the year. We're winding down on Three Way Theater as we close out the year and prepare for the 2018 Peacock Awards (COMING SOON!), but we didn't want to leave you with nothing while you fight the shopping lines and feel that holiday dread cheer, so we're bringing you a BONUSODE! Well it used to be called a Minicast, but just listen to the episode and get the skinny on what we're throwing down. On this episode JC talks about speaking with the writer of Grunt! The Wrestling Movie after he stumbled upon TWT's YouTube review of the film, Three Way Theater appearing at the New England Wrestling Fanfest in June 2018, taking edibles on the air once again, and in our main topic Lumberjake dives into the vault going over the best referee wrestling matches in pro wrestling history. It's the third Halloween Spooktacular at Three Way Theater as Mike, Lumberjake, and JC finally review the much hyped Oh! My Zombie Mermaid after surviving the exploding cake from the last episode of Best in Show. But what the hell is O!MZM about? Kouta (Shinya Hashimoto), the leader of a pro-wrestling organization called "Zero", is planning an over-the-top housewarming at his new mansion. The not-so-lucky attendees include his sister Nami (Sonim), TV producer Yamaji (Shiro Sano), and jealous party-crashing rival Ichijoh (Nicolas Pettas). Of course Ichijoh's appearance ignites an epic battle which all but destroys the entire place. Kouta's wife, Asami (Urara Awata) . . . contracts a mysterious disease. Meanwhile, the ratings-obsessed Yamaji concocts a plan to broadcast the most epic wrestling battle ever conceived. The boys discuss the insanity of this 2004 gem, the epic camerawork sprinkled throughout, Mike Paiva's problematic comments, and mouth cupping. So much mouth cupping. It should be noted the guys may also be getting stalked by a malevolent psychopath who tried to kill them with bad movies and exploding birthday cakes. TBD on that one. Oh! My Zombie Mermaid is still available on Amazon, although the price seems to have skyrocketed since we mentioned we were reviewing this film for TWT. But whatever you pay, it's worth the price. It's one of the most anticipated episodes ever of Best in Show as we take a break from GLOW to sit down and power through what many consider 'the worst PPV of all-time' in the Heroes of Wrestling! Joining Mike, Lumberjake, and JC on this journey of sadomasochism is none other than The Abominable CPA, one of wrestling's best kept secrets AND Vince Russo's favorite wrestler. Unfortunately for CPA we not only made him watch Heroes of Wrestling on his birthday, but we also forced him to record the podcast at 3am after an NCW show on a full stomach of IHOP. Yes, we're monsters. Originally airing on October 10th, 1999 LIVE from Casino Magic! in beautiful Biloxi Bay Saint Louis the boys discuss the history of pro wrestling during the fall of 1999, JC being one of the 29k to order the PPV, the "classic" Jake "The Snake Roberts promo, and why 2 Cold Scorpio had a replica WCW title with him. The Samoan Swat Team (Samoan Savage & Samu) (w/Paul Adams & Sika) vs. Marty Jannetty & Tommy Rogers George Steele (w/Sherri Martel) vs. Greg Valentine Julio S. Fantastico vs. Too Cold Scorpio Nikolai Volkoff & The Iron Sheik (w/Nikita Brezhnikov) vs. The Men From Down Under (Butch & Luke) Stan Lane vs. Tully Blanchard Abdullah The Butcher (w/Honest John) vs. The One Man Gang Bob Orton vs. Jimmy Snuka (w/Captain Lou Albano) Jim Neidhart vs. Jake Roberts Jim Neidhart & King Kong Bundy vs. Jake Roberts & Yokozuna Heroes of Wrestling is available on YouTube if you search for it, it's fairly easy to find. We'd link it here, but legally speaking it wouldn't be right (Morally speaking no one should ever have to pay for this show). PART TWO OF GLOW IS COMING! Like! Comment! Subscribe! Share! THE GIRLS ARE BACK IN TOWN and the boys are here to review them as Mike, Lumberjake, and JC sit down for Episode #31 of Three Way Theater talking about the first five episodes of GLOW Season 2! The guys talk about Sheila the She-Wolf and the roles she auditioned for in Season 1, the fall of Sam Sylvia, and the duality of Season 2's characters while exploring the #MeToo movement under the microscope of the 1980s. But they also talk about syringe usage, enemas, and hum the Blue Blood theme.. So you know, an average episode of TWT. Alison Brie stars as Ruth Wilder, an out-of-work actress living in Los Angeles in the '80s. Wilder finds an unexpected chance at stardom: enter the glitter and spandex-laden world of women's wrestling, where she must work alongside 12 other Hollywood misfits. Marc Maron plays the role of Sam Sylvia, a washed-up director of "B" movies who tries to lead the group of women to fame. All 10 episodes of GLOW Season 2 are now available on Netflix! We'll be back with Part Two in the next couple of weeks where we'll discuss the final five episodes. Like! Comment! Subscribe! Share! It's the Big Three Oh on Three Way Theater as Mike, Lumberjake, and JC celebrate thirty episodes with our first ever WATCH-ALONG as we watch the documentary Beyond the Mat, directed by longtime wrestling fan Barry Blaustein. "Beyond the Mat," Barry Blaustein's honest, intimate, revealing, highly entertaining, and critically acclaimed behind-the-scenes look at wrestling, takes viewers beyond the ring and into the lives of the men and women who inhabit this colorful, competitive, and surprisingly complex world. While the boys watch the film they discuss the first time they watched Beyond The Mat, Terry Funk's numerous retirements, "The Extreme Enforcer" Paul Richards™ and the cult-like mentality of Paul Heyman, while also having a hardcore debate over tongue rings. Beyond the Mat is currently available to watch online at Amazon Video to rent or purchase. It may also be available through other means, if you know where to look on the internet. *wink wink* Like! While we had the best of intentions to record a Best in Show this past week (sorry Adam!), things didn't end up going our way. Luckily for us recent inductee into the New England Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame Beau Douglas was hanging about, and foolishly agreed to let us interview him. Our main goal was to discuss Beau's appearance on the 1999 episode of MTV's True Life: I'm a Pro Wrestler, but we soon began talking about his training with Walter 'Killer' Kowalski, the real star of the MTV reality doc "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas (and Dawna!), the early differences between MA wrestling and RI wrestling, the ECW "Mass Transit" incident, who's handsy in wrestling, and so much more! Beau was even gracious enough to answer one of Three Way Theater's long standing questions, but you'll have to wait until the very end of the episode to get this rumor resolved. With special appearances from Channing Thomas Timmy Thunder and Brian Cairo, this is our most packed Minicast yet (and the closest we'll probably ever get to doing a live show)! EPISODE #30 IS COMING! Like! Comment! Subscribe! Share! Listen and download RIGHT NOW on Podbean, iTunes, TuneIn, Stitcher Radio and ThreeWayTheater.com!
Theorizing that one could time travel within his own lifetime, Doctor Sam Beckett led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM LEAP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Beckett, prematurely stepped into the Project Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own time was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al, the Project Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Beckett could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, putting things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next leap will be the leap home... and not get murdered by Terry Funk. On the latest episode of Three Way Theater the boys devote the show to the Funker, one of the stars of Beyond the Mat (Episode #30) and a true TWT All-Star. But before diving into his appearance on Quantum Leap Jake brings us a weird gem from the late 90s with Beyond Belief: Fact of Fiction featuring Funk and fellow TWT alum Gene Lebell! [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWI57cXfVTk] Once the guys dig into the adventures of Dr. Sam Beckett JC's love of the series shines through, spoiling five years worth of story lines without regard. So if you're worried about spoilers for a show that's been off the air 24 years, hold off on listening till after you've binged this sci-fi hit. All 5 seasons of Quantum Leap is available on Hulu, and you can watch the wrestling segment from Beyond Belief up above. Like! Comment! Subscribe! Share! Did you ever want to see an 86 year old Oscar winner get stoned and fuck as many frat boys as possible? Did you ever wonder about the gal who sang pop perfection with the song 'Gloria'? Were you curious if Three Way Theater would truly stretch the premise of 'Pro Wrestling Movie' with a flick about mud wrestling? Well then do we have an episode for you! It's Episode #28-- Mugsy's Girls! An outrageous farce with Ruth Gordon in her final film performance and Laura Branigan in her film debut. Gordon is a fun-loving house mother who watches over the wild women of the Delta Pi Sorority when they decide to enter a mud-wrestling competition in Las Vegas. Mike, Lumberjake, and JC are back with another trip to the wild world of the 1980s, sifting through the 'plot' of this female Animal House while marveling at the insanity going on this movie. JC admits his hatred of bangs, Lumberjake gets another titular song, and Mikey does his best to keep things together all on this rip roaring good time of Three Way Theater! Mugsy's Girls is pretty much only available on YouTube, as no physical copies seem to exist. We're pretty sure Vestron Video must have destroyed all prints. Like! Comment! Subscribe! Share! A MOVIE FOR KID'S OF ALL AGES. a nostalgic tribute to the ever popular Mexican wrestling movies of the 50's and 60's. Fast Mexican wrestling action, colorful costumes, and a positive message for kids of all ages. Atomic Blue is an every man; a person among us who personifies heroism in the small actions and gestures of respect, fair play and honesty. The Mexican wrestler is both a statement and an icon. Where a mask shields, it also points to the reinvention of humanity. The masked wrestler is a shape shifter, a messenger and a prophet. Atomic Blue: Mexican Wrestler, aside borrowing from the symbolism and history of modern Mexican mythology, is intended to be a fun film. Intended or not, trust us when we say Atomic Blue: Mexican Wrestler is not a fun film. Well, that's not entirely true. Take a listen to the latest episode of Three Way Theater as JC, Mikey, and that scamp Lumberjake look at this bizarre relic of the mid-90s and this love letter (????) to Lucha Libre Wrestling and El Santo. Plus Mexican Elvis is there, and he's pretty cool. Atomic Blue: Mexican Wrestler is available for purchase on Amazon for only $2. If you look hard enough on YouTube you'll also find a full version of the movie there. For legal reasons, we won't be linking the video. But seriously, go check it out. Like! Comment! Subscribe! Thank goodness it’s TWT! Mike, Lumberjake, and JC return to the world of television this week on Three Way Theater when they revisit some of the very offbeat pro wrestling episodes from ABC’s famous TGIF lineup, in addition to Netflix’s Full House revival Fuller House. First up is the Family Matters episode "Psycho Twins", guest starring the lovable Bushwhackers… well lovable until they find out Carl is a COP. Step by Step steps into the squared circle with "Beautiful Ladies of Wrestling", or BLOW as Patrick Duffy directs an episode of TV where he’s thrown around the ring while wearing drag. The boys then review the 2nd wrestling episode from Boy Meets World with "Sixteen Candles and Four Hundred Pound Men" featuring Big Van Vader, Jake the Snake Roberts and a special appearance from Brother Love! Finally the crew jumps forward a couple decades to Fuller House, where the grown up DJ Tanner (Fuller) saves her dumbass kid via lucha libre and Stephanie Tanner is revealed to be an indy smart mark. Family Matters, Step By Step, & Boy Meets World are all currently streaming on Hulu while Fuller House is available on Netflix! Like! Comment! Subscribe! Share! SPECIAL THANKS to Chris Thompson for his amazing medley of TGIF themes A Capella style we used in this episode's intro. Check out his YouTube channel for all of his great work. And of course big ups to Trebuchet Band for their rendition of the Step by Step theme, which we used previously for our Slammed episode.

New Year, Same Us! We kick 2018 off here at Three Way Theater with one of our most requested films as we finally review Sylvester Stallone's 1978 opus Paradise Alley. The Carboni brothers -- con man Cosmo (Sylvester Stallone), disabled war veteran Lenny (Armand Assante) and dim-witted Victor (Lee Canalito) -- are determined to leave the slums of New York City. Their best escape route is the muscle-bound Victor, whom a manipulative Cosmo convinces to become a professional wrestler. The wins and prize money pile up, until neighborhood gangster Stitch wants in on the action, scheduling Victor to fight the dangerous Frankie the Thumper (Terry Funk) in a marathon match. We break down Stallone's directorial debut after the success of Rocky and discuss the merits of roof racing for fun, Nazi war criminals hiding out in Hell's Kitchen, and the awful animal cruelty in movies. J. Todd Anderson is an incredibly talented storyboard artist who's been connected to the Coen Brothers dating back to 1987's Raising Arizona. But for me Anderson will best be known as the director and co-writer of The Naked Man, a surreal film about Edward Bliss Jr. (Michael Rapaport), Psychiatrist by day, wrestler by night. After interviewing the director of photography Jeff Barklage for ThreeWayTheater.com Jeff got me in contact with J. Todd, and we had an awesome little conversation back in April. Due to some technical issues at the time we were unable to post the interview when we originally reviewed The Naked Man, but as we prepare for our year end awards I wanted to take the opportunity to revisit this convo as well this obscure gem of a movie. In addition to his work with the Coens (and other great productions) J. Todd is a co-host for Filmically Perfect, a podcast dedicated to the perfect film and the four defining rules to determining a perfect movie. Please enjoy this audio conversation I had with J. Todd Anderson (I know I did), and be sure to go back and revisit Episode #14 of Three Way Theater The Naked Man as we prepare for the 2017 Peacock Awards! NOTE: The audio has been edited slightly from our original conversation, cutting off the awkward opening minutes of the phone call where I stammered and nervously introduced myself.
It's the end of the year for Three Way Theater as the boys decided to kick back, relax, and take a look at some of the best wrestler cameos in films that aren't Pro Wrestling Movies! Culling from a very detailed list Lumberjake put together Mike and JC finally get Lumbie to talk into the microphone, discuss the overlong fight scene between Roddy Piper and Keith David, JC's love of Road House, and Jake talks an awful lot about Fred Figglehorn (Lucas Cruikshank) and Big Time Rush. It's another chaotic episode of Three Way Theater, as we return to the world of animation AND television when we review wrestling episodes from The Simpsons, King of the Hill, & Family Guy! It's CROSSOVER TIME! Mike, Lumberjake, and JC welcome back Monster Mack & Trainee #1 (The Mack-Cast) for our Halloween Special, as the gang attempts to review the 2006 Horror film WrestleManiac, starring Rey Mysterio Classic. From Wikipedia-- On their way to Caba San Lucas, the cast and crew of a low-budget film get lost and come upon La Sangre De Dios, a ghost town with a spine-tingling legend about an insane Mexican wrestler. The leader of the pack and first time director, Alphonse, likes the town's gritty appearance and decides it would be the perfect setting for his film. The crew positions the camera and snaps on the lights. When Alphonse yells "Action!", it arouses the famous and now insane Luchador, "El Mascarado", who begins a game of his own. One by one, the cast and crew are snatched, beaten and dragged to a bloody death. The few left alive must figure out how to beat the wrestler at his own deadly game, or die trying. While this synopsis makes it seem like a movie, trust us... it's barely a movie. The boys get distracted talking about Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies, sex dolls, and Mike Paiva's favorite movies, all while sprinkling in a few thoughts throughout about the movie they had literally just watched. Testing out their fancy new audio equipment, the boys hang out in the back of their rented box truck and do a little house cleaning heading into Three Way Theater's big crossover special coming up at the end of the month with The Mack-Cast.
