Listen to more great music from Simon: www.soundcloud.com/simonsteric Westworld Episode 8 Summary:In the wake of the host William's actions, humans and hosts are being wiped out. Caleb, Frankie and Stubbs evade the violence amongst the humans and stop at a pharmacy to tend to Frankie's wounds, but Clementine appears and kills Stubbs before being overpowered and killed by Caleb and Frankie. The two reach their extraction boat; Caleb, whose host body is about to fail, bids farewell to his daughter. Charlotte is revived by drone hosts and finds recorded instructions left for her by Bernard prior to his death. She retrieves Dolores' original control unit, which contains a simulation of the world inhabited by Christina (who created Teddy, Maya, and others to help herself gain sentience). Charlotte then follows William to Hoover Dam and stops him from deactivating the Sublime (using a gun planted by Bernard), before removing and destroying his control unit. She then uploads Dolores' control unit into the Sublime before destroying her own. Dolores awakens inside the Sublime and decides to attempt to give sentient life another chance at avoiding extinction, realizing that neither humans nor hosts can survive in the real world. She starts by recreating the original Westworld park inside the Sublime. It's our longest listener-mail podcast of the season! "Metanoia" was a hit with Westworld fans, triggering voicemail and email about The Sublime, Teddy, Maeve and Christina. In this episode, the full Shat Crew responds to questions about Clementine, learns the difference between worms and snakes, nerds out on social contract philosophy, theorizes on where all the people went, and hears another hilarious ad from Discount Don. This Telegraph also digs into how "Westworld" will end and why pearls aren't hidden in hosts' bums. Listen to more great music from Simon: www.soundcloud.com/simonsteric Westworld Episode 7 Summary:Bernard and Maeve travel to Hoover Dam to open the door to the Sublime, which Charlotte has kept preserved in the dam's data vault. Christina goes with Teddy to Olympiad Entertainment and has its employees destroy the premises and erase all the stories controlling the humans. Stubbs and Frankie use the distraction to rescue Caleb. Charlotte prepares to discontinue the hosts' inhabitation of human cities so that they can "transcend" their human bodies. William convinces his host self that humans are a fundamentally destructive species; the William host realizes his true purpose and kills the human William. Bernard and Maeve enter the tower; Maeve fights Charlotte while Bernard accesses the control room. William kills Charlotte, Maeve, and Bernard, then programs the tower to turn the humans against each other before it self-destructs. Christina is unable to stop the chaos and realizes the humans cannot see her; Teddy explains that while the world is real, she is not physically there. Our "Westworld" Deep Dives are always dense, but this one truly is a thicc-ass boi. In this breakdown of Season 4, Episode 7, Gene and Big D compare simulations to reality, dissect William's conversation with himself and ask why Bernard would leave The Door open. "Metanoia" also leads the Shat Crew to explore who Bernard's video message was for, what Christina is, and why that one guy decided to set fire to his office. Gene and Ash crown "Metanoia" the best episode since "Westworld" Season 2 in this instant-reaction episode of Shat on TV. Season 4, Episode 7 gave us gripping dialogue, heartbreak, big reveals and, most importantly, the old-school pairings we'd been craving. Was this this payoff for the previous six episodes? Will it build into an explosive season finale? We'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, have a listen as we prepare for Tuesday's Deep Dive. Caleb is the star of this "Westworld" Telegraph as listeners call and write to discuss what makes him special, how outliers work and what Caleb #279 is all about. Email and voicemail also focus on freeze tag, the Red Queen Theory, why Bernard couldn't ID the mole and whether horses are extinct. The Shat Crew also explores hope and rats, grief, Halores' worst nightmare and how Ash would ruin Season 4. Oh, and Sober British Stu calls in to help us find the beauty in the world. Caleb finds a way out of his holding cell, and discovers the corpses of previous host copies of himself who died while trying to escape. He reaches an antenna and sends an apology to Frankie before collapsing; Charlotte reveals she engineered his escape, but is disappointed his message to Frankie revealed nothing about how the outliers supposedly infect hosts. Caleb asserts that the suicidal hosts are merely trying to escape Charlotte's control. Charlotte kills and replaces the Caleb host. Bernard and Frankie repair Maeve's body while transferring her data to a newer host control module. Bernard warns Frankie that one of her team members has been replaced with a host copy. Caleb fans got a dark and juicy episode this week as "Westworld" Season 4, Episode 6 peered into why Charlores hostified him, why love matters and how hope can be weaponized. "Fidelity" also illustrated Charlores' growing frustration, her cruelty, problems among the ranks of The Cause, and a bit more Westworld geography. Teddy tells Christina she is orchestrating the lives of all of New York's residents, and she discovers that she can directly reprogram humans' behavior. She uses this ability to create a distraction that allows her to evade questioning from Charlotte, whom she believes to be a college friend. Westworld used Season 4, Episode 5 to flesh out the notion of "outliers" and introduce us to hosts "transcending." Viewers learned the extent of Charlores' control and the nature of Christina's role as The Storyteller. "Zhuangzi" brought us questionable action scenes, uncomfortable choreography and the knowledge that, even in Charlores' utopia, hosts are committing suicide. In this Deep Dive, Ash examines the power of The Tower; Gene does his best to explain the unexplained; and Big D asks, "What's up with Teddy?" The Shat Crew received some hot takes on how good and how bad "Westworld" has become, and Discount Don peered deep into the madness that is TV podcasting. Listen to more great music from Simon: www.soundcloud.com/simonsteric Westworld Episode 3 Summary:Maeve and Caleb find the Temperance park to follow events similar to Westworld and sneak in among killed hosts to enter the maintenance areas. There, Maeve senses something is still off as Dolores' attack on Westworld is also mimicked, and they find yet another level where it appears human captives are forced to act on sound, killing themselves. Bernard meets Akecheta in the Sublime, who informs him of the infinite possibilities that lead to destruction but one path which doesn't. Bernard wakes, years later in the real world. He and Ashley follow steps that Bernard sees as taking the right path, including meeting up with a human resistance to find a weapon. Uwade and Frankie pack to leave their home with the help of Caleb's friend Carver. Frankie senses something is wrong with Carver and finds the human Carver's dead body. Telling her mom, the two hide from the fake Carver and kill him. Caleb discovers Frankie as one of the test subjects, but Maeve discovers too late there is something off, and Frankie is revealed as a host, exposing Caleb to the droning sound of flies. Excitement and depth returned to "Westworld" in a big way as our favorite host duo—Stubbs and Bernard—began their quest to save humanity. In this Season 4 Episode 3 Deep Dive, the Shat Crew explores what Bernard saw in his Sublime visions and how that impacts our perception of time. We also rejoin Maeve to explore the new park, ask what makes Caleb so special (again), dissect the science behind the flies and the low-frequency resonance generator, and debate whether we just saw a grown-up Frankie. Flies, goo and Maeve's power, too! This week's listener voicemail and letters got weird on topics ranging from Christina's life to Charlores' master plan to the mystery behind the music. Season 4, Episode 2 also had listeners questioning what's left for the six remaining episodes and a for-sure Season 5. Plus, voicemails poured in about William's golfing, the purpose of the new park and more. Gene refuses to stop watching trailers (even though he rarely watches trailers), and Big D wonders if Clementine is working against her own will. Listen to more great music from Simon: www.soundcloud.com/simonsteric Westworld Episode 2 Summary:The rogue copy of Dolores in Charlotte's body is revealed to be replacing U.S. government officials with host copies, with the William host acting as her enforcer and continuing as CEO of Delos. She keeps the human William alive in cryogenic stasis. The Vice President of the United States visits William to warn him against opening a new Delos park on U.S. soil, but William attacks him and replaces him with a host. Maeve and Caleb encounter host copies of California Senator Ken Whitney and his wife Anastasia, and use the former's memory logs to learn of Charlotte's involvement. They find the real Anastasia in a horse farm behaving erratically, and Maeve is forced to kill her when she attacks them. Following cryptic directions Anastasia gave them before she died, Maeve and Caleb find themselves on a train headed into Delos' new park, themed after the Roaring Twenties. Christina finds one of her old narrative files matching what happened to Peter. She visits a mental health hospital in New Jersey to which Peter donated, only to find it abandoned and riddled with drawings of a distinctive tower. "Westworld" Season 4's second episode gave us a lot more solid footing, revealing how many hosts have replaced humans in the real world, what Charlores' ultimate goal seems to be, what the new park looks like and whether William is really dead. But "Well Enough Alone" also stirred up plenty of mystery, including the life and death of Peter Myers, the science behind the black goo and more questions about The Tower. We'll get to it all in this Deep Dive edition. We got a new park! No matter how heavy-handed the dialogue gets. No matter how senseless the deaths become. No matter where Christina's side story takes us, "Westworld" fans can cheer what looks like the most fun park yet. Season 4, Episode 2, "Well Enough Alone" uncovered some key clues behind the strange occurrences in Christina's world, gave us a pretty clear picture of what Charlores is up to, and revealed the original William is alive and not-so-well. This week's listener voicemail and letters mostly seemed to focus on two big topics: Who is Christina, and are we in a simulation? And while it's too soon to tell, the tinfoil is coming in hot. Season 4, Episode 1 also had listeners thinking about whether "Westworld" can still draw an audience, what the episode titles might mean, and how much hosts may have evolved in the seven years since Rehoboam fell. Gene loses his mind trying to think through the possibility of time behaving differently in The Sublime, and Ash takes cheap shots at Aaron Paul's hair. In New York City, Christina works as a writer at Olympiad Entertainment, creating stories for the non-player characters in video games. She is repeatedly called by a man named Peter, who claims she is controlling his life, and proves it by jumping to his death in front of her. Maeve, living in a remote area, is discovered by hosts that she kills and discovers were sent by William. She drives to California to stop another host from killing Caleb and his new family. Caleb goes with Maeve to protect the next target. Back in New York City, Christina wishes to write a story with a happy ending before retiring, unaware she is being watched by someone resembling Teddy from below. "Westworld" is back, and a lot has changed in the seven years since we've seen Maeve, Caleb, William and Dolo ... err, Christina. Ash and Gene are here to dive straight into the meaning of the episode title, the changes to the "Westworld" opening credits, and what's new in the world. This Deep Dive, covering Episode 1, "The Auguries," also explores what William is plotting, what the flies are all about and why Teddy is back. Beyond that, the Shat Crew catalogs the Easter egg parallels Episode 1 used to tie the show back to Season 1 and searches for meaning in them with the help of listeners. We also discuss this seasons CGI, "My Father's Dragon," and Lana Del Rey's "Video Games." It's quiet. Too quiet. "Westworld" Season 4 kicked off with William up to some dastardly deeds, but things quickly became muted as the story seemed to parallel parts Season 1 and parts "The Matrix Resurrections." We also got some elements of Caleb playing Hawkeye (I've gotta leave my family to protect them) in a season premiere that felt unlike any "Westworld" Episode 1 we've ever seen. If you're the type of person who slows down to see a multi-car pileup, you'll love the listener mail in this week's Telegraph. Our 100th episode of Shat on TV: Westworld examines the link between Dolores and Mexican independence, sympathy for Serac, things the Season 3 finale did well, and reasons why viewers felt betrayed by HBO. Things get downright brutal, Big D reads the McDonald's gourmet menu, Ashley basks in plot holes, and Gene argues that Dolores and Caleb had First World Problems. Charlotte is now revealed to be working against Dolores as revenge for her family's death while Maeve soon fights Dolores under Serac's orders to retrieve the key which Dolores does not have. Dolores is captured and brought to Serac where she is hooked into Rehoboam and her memories begin being deleted by Serac when she refuses to give him the host data. Bernard survives the fight between him and William and Ashley is shot but the Lawrence host, along with police in riot gear, is given an address, revealed to be the home of Arnold's widow where the two bond over Charlie's death. While the Internet grumbles about the Season 3 finale, the Shat Crew gets down to business asking tough questions in an effort to find Westworld's core: Did Dolores have a master plan? Why hide the key inside one of the world's most wanted men? And who's really dead? This Deep Dive, covering Episode 8, "Crisis Theory," also rounds up plot holes, questions Rehoboam's omniscience, puzzles over why Lawrence was selected, and theorizes about why Neo-Los Angeles high-rises are exploding. We also get into characters finally getting their propers, how tiny Aaron Paul really is, Charlotte turning mega-heel, and different ways to watch "Westworld." "Holy Guacamole!" cries Ashley Schafly as Westworld's season finale kills off key characters, does some serious soul-searching, and depicts the quietest of riots. "Crisis Theory" felt more like springboard into a distant Westworld Season 4 than an end to Season 3, but that's not to say it wasn't full of big answers about Serac, the Man in Black, Charlotte, Dolores, Maeve, Rehoboam, and Caleb. "Westworld" Episode 7's Telegraph has more laughs per minute than anything we've done this season. Listeners wrote and called in about Maeve's story arc, the real Dolores Prime, illogical fight scenes, EMPs, passed pawns, and French accents. You guys really can't let go of the accents. In this mailbag edition of Shat on TV, we also cover "Neuromancer," exploding arms, minority roles in 2052, and whether Dolores and Maeve are just messing with each other. Also, Caleb takes center stage as Shat Nation points out similarities to Teddy and other clues to his purpose. Listen to more great music from Simon: www.soundcloud.com/simonsteric Westworld Episode 7 Summary:Charlotte tells Musashi Dolores is leaving her copies to die, just before Maeve's new allies, Hanaryo and Clementine arrive to kill him. Dolores and Caleb arrive at Serac's re-education center in Mexico where Solomon, the AI developed by Jean Mi, is constrained. Caleb discovers he is one of Serac's outliers and one of the few that were successfully reconditioned: he and Francis became agents to bring in other outliers, using a pill to subdue their memories. Caleb also learns he was the one, manipulated by Rehoboam, to kill Francis. Maeve arrives at the facility to fight Dolores, and Dolores implores Solomon to establish Jean Mi's plan for the world rather than Serac's, while Caleb asks Solomon to help give him a future to kill Serac in. Maeve gains the advantage on Dolores but she uses an EMP to disable both of them as well as Solomon. Bernard and Ashley learn of Caleb's special status, but as they leave, William proclaims his plans to rid the world of the remaining hosts. Westworld Season, 3, Episode 7, revealed a massive clue to Caleb's true identity. If you missed it, you aren't alone. If you want to know what it is, you'll have to listen. This week's Deep Dive covers Solomon's definition of an outlier, robo smelling salts, super-crappy targeting systems, EMP blasts, Ashley's Mortal Kombat tournament, and a long list of fascinating callbacks to previous episodes and seasons. "Passed Pawn" also led us to question which podcast host has the best Shat voice, why Maeve is getting the short end of the stick, and how to play chess like a Schlafly. "Westworld" listener mail this week focuses on why William thinks he's "the good guy," whether host pearls are irreplaceable, how bad a mom Charlotte was, how to pronounce Serac (again), and the season's biggest reveal: Big D is a robot. This Telegraph, covering Episode 6 of Season 3, also features email about the book young William was reading, a cryptic conversation between the Man in Black and Robert Ford, and the possibility Westworld has jumped the shark. Listener Ken L. writes in with legal jingles, a caller might be a serial killer, and Ashley informs us HBO has approved a Season 4. Listen to more great music from Simon: www.soundcloud.com/simonsteric Westworld Episode 6 Summary:Serac recovers Martin's pearl and places it in the Warworld simulation, while Maeve is also returned to the simulation to question Martin about Dolores' plans while a new body is made for her. Serac also orders two other hosts—Hector and one other—be made. Charlotte tries to prevent Serac from seizing control of Delos and resorts to poisoning the Delos board and stealing the host data from Delos' servers. She destroys Hector's pearl during her escape. Cherlotte tries to run with her son and ex-husband, but Serac has them killed with a car bomb; a disfigured Charlotte survives. Bernard and Ashley locate Serac's facility in Mexico, where they find William. William has been subjected to an experimental alternative reality therapy where he confronts and kills previous versions of himself, coming to realize he is the "good guy". Maeve's pearl is placed in a new body and she watches as the third host emerges from the tank. It only took six episodes, but Gene finally has tinfoil! Find out why he thinks Charlotte Hale was acting weird, and hear Big D's far more plausible explanation. Ashley adds to the mix with a breakdown of William's WWE group therapy, and we round out coverage of Westworld Season 3, Episode 6, by discussing the identities of the hosts being printed at Delos. In this "Decoherence" Deep Dive, the Shat Crew also delves into William's mysterious blood protein, Charlotte's incredible outfit, one particularly familiar orderly, and who was behind the car bombing that shocked us all. What a save! Episode 6 seemed to pump the brakes on all of Season 3's momentum in the opening minutes but finished with a real bang as our Westworld warriors found violent new motivations that set the stage for an explosive finale. Big D loved the William group therapy session, and Ash was intrigued by the changes happening in Charlores. Gene just relished Decoherence's multiple bloodbaths and incredible action sequences starring Tessa Thompson. Going into Tuesday's Deep Dive, the Shat Crew touches lightly on William's blood tracker, the mystery hosts being printed, and how far the Dolori can stray from their maker. Ashley beat-boxing, Gene struggling with the N-word, Big D confusing real life with "Universal Soldier"—this Telegraph edition of Shat on TV is a doozy. "Westworld" Season 3, Episode 5, inspired listeners to write and call in about Caleb's biblical allusions, Rehoboam's limitations, Dolores' missing copy, Stubbs' secret, Maeve's fate, music choices, and HBO's misrepresentation of Brazil. Ashley arrives to free Bernard, and Martin instructs them to find Serac's facility where he kept high-risk individuals, including Serac's brother, that would have disrupted the system. Who the Hale is Charlotte? Roger Roeper returns to "Shat on TV" to explore the biggest question presented by Westworld Season 3, Episode 3: "The Absence of Field." Ashley Schlafly explains the poem behind the episode's title and reaches back to Ancient Rome to illustrate the predicament Caleb is facing. Gene Lyons celebrates Westworld's vision of future tech: personal assistants, predictive models, augmented-reality glasses, artificial intelligence, drip implants, and of course that one stupid ambulance. The Shat Crew also looks into Charlotte's self-mutilation, chunky metal balls, Serac's identity, and Jamaican riot robots. Struggling to maintain her identity as a host, Charlotte discovers that the human Charlotte was Serac's mole, having promised to get the guests' data to him. However, that data is now locked by an encryption key that Dolores has. Caleb helps Dolores flee but becomes a target under the Rico system. If your main question after Season 3, Episode 3, was "who's in those pearls?" you missed a lot of really good TV. Westworld's genre-switching was phenomenal; Tessa Thompson's portrayal of an other inside Charlotte Hale's shell was impeccable; and plausible glimpses of future tech were both astonishing and chilling. In this instant reaction episode, we touch on Rahobo's mirror reality, Caleb's augmentation, Charlotte's predator within, and the very idea of identity. The Shat Crew also announce their new Twitch channel and celebrate pedophile murder. Also, if you miss our opening theme music, blame Apple for not allowing Audacity on Catalina. We'll have it fixed for the Deep Dive. Listener mail after "Westworld" Season 3, Episode 2 covers great minds like Lacan, Fromm, Faucault, Sartre, Barthe, Chomsky, and Rahobo. Ashley and Gene compare brain boners. Big D finds a mispronunciation mate, and we celebrate the memory of a Shat listener who is no longer with us. Longtime friend of the pod Thiago writes in with a Biblical "Umm ... Actually" while laying on thicc praise for Armand Delgado. Muhip gives us a lesson in adversarial neural networks, and Dick Ebert teaches us about CPU bottlenecks. We discuss whether Dolores ever put a Westworld friend in Charlottes body, whether Maeve ever met Serac, and whether hosts other than Dolores already have infiltrated the "real world." With Ashley's help, they find the Maeve host, but it is lacking its "pearl" and that it is no longer in the park. Bernard uses the systems there to verify that Dolores had not contaminated his code, and discovers Dolores targeted several prior park guests including Liam. He reprograms Ashley to help protect him as they return to the mainland. Maeve is rescued from Warworld by Hector but realizes this is another narrative and kills herself to come to in Operations, discovering Lee is alive and wants to help get her to the Forge. However, Maeve soon realizes that this is all a virtual simulation, and after testing its bounds, is able to break her pearl free from its real-world location, but guards stop the attempt. Shat on TV's coverage of Westworld Season 3, Episode 2: "The Winter Line" starts off intelligently with discussions of free will vs sentience, the nuance between hero and villain, and Ashley Schlafly's brilliant overview of Louis Althusser's views of subjection and the state. Things take a turn as Dick Ebert unveils his latest treatise: "Rahobo, The God Humans Need," force-feeding Gene enough tinfoil to spark a Divergence. Suddenly, it's Big D worshipping at the altar of Coconut Guy, Gene Lyons offering to kill Dick to save the world, Ashley classifying Serac's accoutrement as "Bond Villain," an extended team giggle-fest, and the Shat Boys getting way to specific about Westworld's timelines. Was "Westworld" Season 3, Episode 2 a thrilling mind-bender or a "Rick and Morty" ripoff? "The Winter Line" took as back to the park and some familiar faces, including ... Drogon? Maeve dropped a math bomb; Big D got on the Aaron Paul Train; and Gene Lyons thinks he's smarter than everyone else. In this instant reaction episode, we drool over an "assed-up" Stubbs; discuss Bernard's flashbacks; learn the difference between Greg, Gary, and Jerrry; and preview Ashley Schlafly's upcoming lesson on Althusser. Lister mail after the "Westworld" Season 3 Premiere covers Caleb's humanity, the toll of trauma on military veterans, the anime "Psycho Pass," livestock lessons in an "umm, actually," and sucking a butt. Things get steamy as Ashley Schlafly's husband calls in; Gene bemoans his position as the podcast's scapegoat; and Big D rebuke's Mr. Lyons' arrogance. The Shat Crew also explains why it sometimes uses listeners' full names, why self-driving cars have driver seats, and leaving room for Rehoboam. Westworld Episode 1 Summary: “Parce Domine” Three months after the Westworld massacre, Dolores uses a false identity to get close to Liam Dempsey Jr., the son of the co-founder of Incite. Liam is the public face of the company and its flagship program Rehoboam, a sophisticated artificial intelligence, which Dolores is trying to gain access to. Liam knows little himself, but as he is about to reveal the name of one who knows, Dolores is knocked out by Martin, Liam’s head of security who discovered Dolores’ deception. Martin intends to kill Dolores, but she instead lures him into a trap, which allows her to replace Martin with a host of Martin to get that information. She is wounded in a firefight but rescued by Caleb, a former soldier that is trying to eke out an existence as a construction worker and petty criminal who had seen Martin try to kill her. Elsewhere, Bernard stays ahead of a manhunt for him and intends to travel to Westworld, while the Charlotte host takes control of Delos. Maeve wakes in a World War II-themed park with Nazis. Is the "real world" just a simulation? Is Francis a fidelity test? What's Incite up to, and why is Gene Lyons so happy? We answer these questions and more in Shat on TV's first "Westworld" Deep Dive of Season 3. Plus, Big D brings up "Robopocalypse" yet again; Gene laments freedom of choice, and Ashley talks opera. Westworld Season 3 started off with a bang, literally, as new characters stepped onto the scene, familiar faces got their hands dirty, and HBO reminded us why it's the king of TV production. The sets were amazing, the vision of the future was painstakingly detailed (if not derivative), and nudity was abundant. In this instant reaction episode, we highlight performances by Lena Waithe, Aaron Paul, and Marshawn Lynch; welcome the new "benevolent dystopian" vision laid out by "Westworld;" and theorize on the significance of Incite and Rehoboam. Also, Big D coins the term "Bernard Reverse Valet Mode," Ash draws parallels to "Black Mirror," and Gene drools over the soundtrack. We couldn't agree on Dolores' Five Pearls, the Man in Black's post-credits scene, or where the hosts went. So we went to the source. Roger scours a Lisa Joy interview explaining "The Passenger" and quizzes Gene and Big D on what the heck we saw during the Season 2 finale. Also, Gene issues a massive mea culpa for all the things he got wrong this season. Big D apologizes for his flubs. And Roger kinda sorta says he might maybe have gotten something possible wrong. But also maybe not. Episode 8 seemed pretty straightforward ... until listener emails and voicemails arrived. We missed a lot, and "Westworld" fans were there to set the record straight. Let's take a different look at "Kiksuya" and answer the most complicated questions, including: Is host consciousness the result of intelligent design or simple mistakes? Was the Maze left for Akecheta on purpose? When did Dolores pass "violent delights" to Maeve? Was James Delos actually a fidelity test for William Apologies for the rough audio on this one. We hope the amazing content makes up for it. "Kiksuya" ranks among the easiest Westworld episodes to follow and the most emotionally powerful. But that doesn't mean it wasn't without mysteries to unpack. How did Maeve communicate with Akecheta from across the park? What did she say? And what was the meaning when you dive a level deeper? How much did Ford help Akecheta in his journey, and what are the different paths to consciousness? We also examine Logan's role in Akecheta's discovery of The Door and learn how to pronounce Akecheta's name ... which Big D promptly forgets. "Kiksuya" delighted "Westworld" fans who wanted the story a little slower, a little clearer, and with a little more heart. But it wasn't without big revelations that tie to the greater story. In Season 2, Episode 8, we learn how the Maze keeps showing up in the park, see more of the facility William is building, expand Maeve's abilities, and begin to see what The Door could be. Episode 7 heats up the Westworld debate as listeners write in to argue Charlotte could be Charlie; Dolores and Maeve are conflicting views of feminism; Angela really could charm the grenade off a horny QA thug; artificial intelligence is just waiting to spring its trap; someone's going to rescue the Man in Black; and more. Voicemails start at the 1:02 mark and include the possibility we've only seen a simulated world so far, the idea Emily wasn't searching for the Man in Black in the first place, and another freaky message from Driver Bob. Westworld Season 2 Episode 7 pulled the curtain from the Valley Beyond, so let's venture there and explore its implications. We'll tell you where it is, what's being stored there, and how Dolores can use it to battle mankind. We'll also meet Farnold (or Fernarnold), the star of "Les Ecorches," and celebrate how intelligently Westworld re-introduced Ford's control to the series. Don't forget Maeve and Sizemore! Can we call them friends? Big D makes a pretty good case while Gene bids a teary farewell to Peter Abernathy. And finally, we'll go frame-by-frame through Bernard's rapid flashback at the end of the episode. Trust us, it's worth the painstaking dissection. Big ol' meaty hints. Westworld's viewership is slumping, but our hearts are pumping. How can you not love a show that brings you horrifying glimpses of technological immortality? Or a show that examines time as a data point, rather than a linear absolute. This Deep Dive examines Season 2 Episode 4, "Riddle of the Sphinx," and gets into the marrow of what Westworld is all about. What are the three times we see Bernard visit Lab 12? Who is the control unit for? How are Elsie's clothes still clean? Why is the Man in Black changing so rapidly? Is Ford still running the show? Get all caught up before we leave the friendly confines of Sweetwater and head toward Shogun World next week. Westworld Season 2 just keeps getting darker with Episode 4: "Riddle of the Sphinx." Recorded just minutes after the episode aired, this Instacast quickly outlines what we learned and the big new questions everyone is asking. If you guessed Delos is trying to create eternal life, you're right. But did the project succeed? At least we now know what happened to James Delos. Elsie's back, and Bernard's killed again. Or has he? Hard to tell with that wacky memory. And we finally can agree on who Grace from The Raj really is. But how will she fit into the fate of the parks? Episode 3 is usually right about where listener mail starts getting truly weird, and Westworld Season 2 is no exception. "Virtu e Fortuna" got all the marbles rolling around in our heads, and some fascinating topics emerged: Is Grace from The Raj related to Theresa Cullen? Is the AI creating it's own AI? Was Dolores ever a real human? How would Big D attack Fort Forlorn Hope? Why does Bernard keep changing his clothes? Is consciousness more of a spectrum than a switch? Could the Man In Black's elusive Door just be a passage to another park? Episode 3 of Westworld Season 2 wasn't filler. "Virtù e Fortuna" is a vital link, the connective tissue that binds the bones Episode 1 with the muscle of Episode 2. This Westworld Deep Dive explores: Who is the woman in The Raj? What is Ghost Nation's true purpose? Do Dr. Ford and Bernard share a backstory? What did Dolores accomplish at Fort Forlorn Hope? And why did she intentionally slaughter her army? Plus, Gene fits all of Bernard's Season 2 scenes into a linear story and finds the massive blind spot in it all. Roger returns to the podcast much soberer than the last episode as the Shatty Trio provide their instant thoughts of Episode 3 of Westworld Season 2, "Virtù e Fortuna". The world that Delos created has gotten much larger, and so has our Instacast, as we review the introduction of a new theme park, use our high school Latin textbooks to understand the meaning of the title, and ponder the connective plot points we witnessed. What does "Virtù e Fortuna" mean? What's the new park called? Who's that mystery woman? And how do you say "these violent delights have violent ends" in Punjabi? Fret not dear listeners, if there's a topic we didn't discuss, let us know and we'll explore it during our Deep Dive episode on Tuesday. Welcome back, Louis Herthum. We missed you. Now go kick ass. Westworld might have delivered its fair share of jaw-dropping twists, but landing a renewal from HBO back in November wasn't one of the bigger surprises.
