Nigel Farage was accused by many in the Commons today of inciting violence with his call for people to respond to a young man's murder with "pure cold rage". The Reform UK leader explicitly ignored the wishes of Henry Nowak's family - who had urged politicians not to use Henry's death to ramp up tensions - to suggest that the anger seen in Southampton last night could even get worse. As he spoke, he was jeered and accused of hijacking a personal tragedy for political gain. The question perhaps is whether Farage's rhetoric on race has hardened - and if so why? Is it the spectre of the Makerfield by-election where Reform has another hard right party snapping at their heels?Later, Jeremy Hunt is with us to discuss why those in power know what to do - but not how to get reelected afterwards. What if the way you're talking about your nonprofit is actually holding you back? In this episode of Kari's Confessions, Kari Anderson breaks down a critical shift for nonprofit leaders: moving from transactional pitching to powerful storytelling. If you've ever struggled to engage donors, align your team, or clearly communicate your impact, this conversation will challenge how you think about fundraising and leadership. Kari shares why nonprofit storytelling is more than marketing—it's a leadership tool that builds trust, strengthens relationships, and fuels sustainable growth. You'll learn how traditional fundraising strategies often fall short, and why focusing on connection over transactions leads to deeper engagement and long-term support. Inside the episode, she outlines a simple, repeatable storytelling framework for nonprofits - covering tension, stakes, turning point, proof, and invitation - and the three core stories every organization needs: why you exist, what change looks like, and how others can join you. She also connects storytelling to nonprofit leadership, strategy, and internal alignment, showing how your systems either support or sabotage your message. Why do nonprofit budgets break, even when everyone has good intentions? In this episode of Kari's Confessions, Kari Anderson unpacks the real reasons nonprofit budgets fall apart. Spoiler alert: it's rarely bad math. It's undocumented assumptions, ignored cash flow timing, over-promised fundraising revenue, and conversations that never quite happened. With funding tighter and costs rising, 2026 is not a neutral year. If your nonprofit budget is still a once-a-year spreadsheet exercise, this is the season it starts to hurt. Kari walks through the nine most common nonprofit budgeting mistakes she's made and seen repeatedly, including confusing restricted revenue with spendable cash, under-budgeting true program costs, skipping scenario planning, and treating budgeting like finance's job alone. She breaks down the difference between an operating budget, program budget, and a rolling 12-month cash flow forecast, and why blending them guarantees confusion. Most importantly, you'll learn practical fixes: weighted revenue forecasting, shared budget ownership, monthly budget-to-actual reviews, and building fully loaded program budgets that tell the truth about infrastructure and sustainability.

J'étais absente, alors mon mari a répondu. » Élodie a écouté attentivement l'exposé.

Laura speaks to organizers in western North Carolina one year after Hurricane HeleneThis show is made possible by you! To become a sustaining member go to LauraFlanders.org/donateDescription:  When Hurricane Helene hit western North Carolina in September 2024, it came as a shock, hitting mountains, not coasts, and flooding rivers and communities with little experience of dealing with hurricanes. Helene quickly became one of the worst storms to ever hit the U.S., and in the absence of a quick response by state or federal government, other groups flooded in. Right-wing actors took advantage of the chaos, spreading rumors about looting and trying to boost their image. But it's the mutual aid networks — some long standing, others new that responded with creative, effective strategies to distribute water, medicine and help communities rebuild. In this episode, Laura Flanders heads to some of the hardest-hit areas in western North Carolina and speaks with community activists to hear the lessons to be learned for the future. Amid Trump cuts to FEMA and the National Weather Service, the future for storm recovery in North Carolina is uncertain. But one thing's for sure — mutual aid support like Pansy Collective, Cherokee One Feather, Racial Justice Coalition (RJC), Rural Organizing and Resilience (ROAR) and Collaborativa La Milpa have the strategies and solutions we may all need for survival.“It takes the state a long time to mobilize, and that might continue to be true as FEMA gets defunded . . . It's imperative that people fight to keep their disaster response funding, but until then, we need to know how to respond ourselves.” - RT“We were talking to the people that were staying in hotels because they had just lost everything and didn't know where they were going to get their next meal or their medicine. Talk to those people . . . We had those journalists, especially BIPOC journalists in Western North Carolina, making sure those stories were told.” - Brooklyn Brown (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians)Guests:• Brooklyn Brown (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians): Reporter, Cherokee One Feather•. Guest: Michelle Shephard, former Toronto Star reporter and co-author of “Code Name: Pale Horse: How I Went Undercover to Expose America's Nazis” Scott Payne spent his career deep undercover in the drug trade, criminal networks and among racist terrorists — and despite some harrowing close calls that saw him stripped naked and almost exposed, he lived to tell the tale. The woman he told it to — former Star reporter Michelle Shephard, who co-wrote a new book with Payne — sits down with This Matters to talk about what he went through and what he learned. This includes a time when he found himself in a field in the American south under a literal burning cross at a KKK rally, and how he learned that famous racist organization is now “your grandfather's white supremacists” given the threat posed by The Base, a newer racist terrorist group bent on spurring a race war to bring about the collapse of society. Shephard discusses how Payne tried to stay safe while putting criminals in jail, and the toll it took on his mental health and family life. PLUS: the time Payne had a hood pulled off his head and found himself being unexpectedly “knighted” into the Ku Klux Klan. It was only a matter of time before the democratization of all things came to evangelicalism. Whether it was Elon Musk buying Twitter, “entrepreneurs” getting rich off meme coins, or AI giving anyone supposed expertise in whatever field they wanted, we are experiencing a technological revolution that is as disruptive as the printing press. Information, platforms, access, and ideas have been thrown wide open to anyone with the shrewdness, tact, and ambition to wield them. I'm not saying this is a bad or a good thing, it's just the way things are moving. No one is taking this harder than the evangelical institutions of the past. Seminaries, Universities, para-church ministries and church networks that were massively influential in the 1990s and early 2000s still have lots of land, money, and reach. But ultimately, despite their millions of dollars and decades long track record, they are rapidly losing influence. Men with no degrees, no pedigree, and minimal funds are capturing the hearts of the next generation of right wing and Christian men because they have what the institutions lack. Courage. The gatekeepers shriek and wail, but they are gatekeepers without a gate. Send us a textIn this episode, we discuss how I would take over the world as Voldemort. Enjoy!Topics/Summary:·      1:59 Start with Hogwarts. Voldemort should have focused on Hogwarts more intensely early on, because most of his greatest enemies are there. He has to start planting spies much earlier if he wants to turn it into a more valuable asset of information. ·      9:50 Take control of Gringotts and Olivander's.  These two are the most important shops in the wizarding world. If Voldemort could take control of the wand production, he could influence who gets to learn magic at Hogwarts. If he controlled the bank, he could hire an army large enough to defeat Dumbledore ten times over.·      15:59 Infiltrate the Ministry. Voldemort does this, but it is too late. If I was him, I would start planting spies in the Ministry earlier, and hopefully work up to installing a puppet minister. How hard could it be to get Fudge out of office and support someone else for the position?·      20:51 Incite more killings and disappearances. The thing that scared the public the most was all the disappearances and killings of civilians. He does some of this, but if he could ramp it up, he might be able to drum up enough fear to influence the war.·      24:49 Protect the horcruxes. To be fair, he does this well. However, it obviously wasn't good enough. He should think of a way to better protect his horcruxes, which would guarantee his success. Having anything you want to hear or say?
