Culture of Change Ep. 125: The Wool Industry, Big Ag v. Small Business w/ Annie of Willow Wind Farm

Ashe in America and Abbey Blue Eyes sit down with Annie Hunt of Willow Wind Farm for a masterclass in American agriculture, small business grit, and global economics disguised as wool talk. From her start as a physicist-turned-natural foods executive to running a thriving alpaca farm, Annie reveals the truth behind the U.S. wool industry's decline, and how globalism, regulation, and corporate capture pushed producers out of the market. The discussion unravels the economic pressures facing farmers, the science of natural fibers, and how synthetic textiles and offshoring reshaped American manufacturing. Annie breaks down the difference between merino and alpaca, the frequency of natural fibers, and why vertical integration might be the key to reviving domestic production. This deep, eye-opening conversation goes far beyond wool, exposing how consumer habits and policy choices shape the future of American sovereignty, one fiber, one farm, and one truth at a time.

Jillian Michaels has stepped out of her infamous "Darth Vader" role from "The Biggest Loser" and joins Glenn to dismantle the smearing of RFK Jr., fire back at those calling Charlie Kirk a bigot, and confess that she is “terrified” of what the modern Left has become — while noting how "the Right is looking a heck of a lot more diverse these days." From the glowing horrors of Fruit Loops and GMOs to the “catastrophic quartet of Big Food, Big Ag, Big Pharma, and Big Insurance” re-engineering our food to overcome the effects of drugs like Ozempic, the pair wonder if it's time for a 12-step program for food addiction. Jillian delivers wake-up calls on the transgender movement and the “psyop” of body positivity, before reflecting on training "The Biggest Loser" contestants and the vital role of personal responsibility and escaping victimhood. She describes the vaccine debate as a “red herring,” and Glenn breaks down his stance on gay marriage, MAHA, and what the liberals of his generation got right.     GLENN'S SPONSORS:    Relief Factor:   If you're living with aches and pains, see how Relief Factor, a daily drug-free supplement, could help you feel better and live better. Reforming SNAP. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program—formerly known as food stamps—is designed to address nutritional gaps for economically disadvantaged Americans. But critics argue that SNAP's lack of selectivity when it comes to ultra-processed foods stokes the current epidemic of obesity and metabolic disorders. Nutritionist Carolina Schneider, MS, RD, joins us to discuss an opportunity to reform SNAP. She makes the case for emphasizing fresh, minimally processed food as eligible for purchase under SNAP. Also, she urges inclusion of vitamin D under SNAP benefits because of the pervasiveness of vitamin D deficiency, especially among SNAP recipients. Check out a hub for citizen activism at www.All4VitaminD.org. In Part 2, we shift to consideration of plant-based diets: What are their advantages, and what are potential pitfalls?

The small family farm is often perceived to be an occupation of the past that is being overtaken by large-scale industrial farming practices. Big Ag wreaks havoc on our global climate, all the while creating a GMO monoculture that contributes to an enormous loss of our planet's biodiversity.Adapted from the book "Women Who Dig: Farming, Feminism, and the Fight to Feed the World" by Trina Moyles, this documentary, filmed over the course of three years in cinema veritas, offers an intimate portrait of the lesser-told story of women farmers and land stewards pushing back against industrial practices.TICKETS: metrocinema.org/production/women-who-dig/WEBSITE: annakmedia.ca/

Political Discussion – “Schumer Shutdown”: Cruz and Ferguson argue that Democrats, led by Senator Chuck Schumer, are responsible for keeping the government closed. They portray Republicans as trying to reopen the government, while Democrats allegedly refuse. President Trump is praised for redirecting Defense Department funds to pay service members during the shutdown — presented as undermining Democrats’ political strategy. Cruz claims Democrats want taxpayer-funded health care for undocumented immigrants and are motivated by political self-preservation rather than governance. They assert the shutdown will last until after the “No Kings Rally,” described as a left-wing anti-Trump protest in D.C. Advertising Segment: The conversation temporarily shifts into a sponsor ad for “Backyard Butchers,” promoting American ranchers and criticizing “Big Ag.”→ This is a common podcast monetization interlude framed around populist “buy American” messaging. Continuation of Shutdown Debate: Cruz describes the hardship for unpaid federal workers. The conversation emphasizes that Democrats’ alleged political games are causing unnecessary suffering. Cruz speculates the shutdown will only end once moderate or retiring Democrats break ranks. Tribute Segment – Charlie Kirk’s Memorial: The second half of the podcast focuses on Charlie Kirk’s posthumous Medal of Freedom ceremony. Cruz recounts the event in emotional, spiritual terms, highlighting Erica Kirk’s (his widow’s) public forgiveness of Kirk’s killer. He frames this as a Christian act of grace and gospel testimony. The conversation portrays Kirk as a “martyr for truth and freedom,” comparing him to historical figures like Socrates, Lincoln, and Martin Luther King Jr. President Trump’s remarks are quoted extensively, celebrating Kirk as a visionary and moral hero. The discussion closes with reflection on Kirk’s influence on youth, his faith, and his perceived role as a symbol of conservative moral strength. Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now. Colonies are managed for bee health with active selection for vigor, genetic diversity and disease resistance, but without chemical treatments for over a decade. The apiary is self-sustaining (not needing to buy/catch replacement bees since 2010) and produces honey and nucs most every year.

When I was growing up, my mother believed the food she fed her family was safe for us to consume. In fact, the 1950's was just the beginning of the corporate takeover of agriculture and food production in the United States. Over the next thirty years it would culminate in Big Ag, Big Chem, and Big Food all having their hey dey producing corporate profits at the expense of American's health. In a properly functioning democracy, the U.S. government - as part of its mandate to protect the common good - would regulate corporate behavior to insure profits were never placed before the safety, health and well-being of people and planet. Yeah, well….that would be nice. Beginning in the 1980's, our government began to promote corporate interests too often at the expense of our well-being. In area after area, corporate profits became America's bottom line. More and more Americans realize this now. We need a world in which the safety, health and well-being of our children takes precedence over an economic trickle-down theory of economics. This is a fundamental way in which we've gone astray, and one of the ways in which in time we will self-correct. My guest today is Bill Freese, science director at Center for Food Safety (CFS), a non-profit organization that supports sustainable agriculture and opposes harmful food production technologies. Take care. Stay informed. We're going to create a more beautiful world. 2025's ag laws, no spin. American Farm Burueau Federation Economist, Daniel Munch, breaks down what the American Relief Act and HR1 (“One Big Beautiful Bill”) actually changed for farmers, ranchers, and timberland owners: disaster aid, tax relief, ARC/PLC extensions, conservation through 2031, disease‑readiness funding—and what Washington still hasn't fixed. Why these passed: must‑pass funding + reconciliation math, not kumbaya. Core programs extended to 2031: ARC/PLC, Dairy Margin Coverage; EQIP/CSP/ACEP funded forward. CRP: not extended in HR1; needs separate action (a “skinny” farm bill or stand‑alone). Disaster money: ~$30B total in the Relief Act (≈$10B economic aid to row‑crops; ≈$20B disasters). Helpful, not enough to backfill multi‑year crop, livestock, timber, and infrastructure losses. Drought trigger fixed: LFP now four consecutive weeks of qualifying drought (down from eight). Rancher win: LIP now 100% compensation for federally protected predator kills (wolves/grizzlies). State block grants: Flexibility for hard‑hit states (e.g., hurricane zones) that can include timber. Taxes you can actually use: Estate tax exemption permanent at $15M / $30M couple; 199A stays; bonus depreciation back; Section 179 expensing up to $2.5M for equipment and capital improvements (barns, fencing, irrigation). Clean fuel credits (45Z): benefits risk getting stuck at processors unless contracts force value back to growers. Disease readiness: $233M/year mandated for stockpiles, diagnostics, training—real money to keep herds healthy. Market context: Land values up but margins down; these programs support lender confidence but don't erase price pressure. Foreign land ownership: Data/reporting gaps are real; enforcement and look‑through need teeth; private‑property rights vs. national‑security concerns. Why SNAP stays in the farm bill: urban votes keep farm programs alive. No SNAP = no votes = no farm bill. Today, you're in for a real treat folks. We welcome back to the program one of my all-time favorite humans, Joel Salatin.Named "the most famous farmer in America", Joel has spent his career advocating for sustainable farming practices, and pioneering models that show how food can be grown & raised in ways that:- are regenerative to our topsoils- are more humane to livestock- produce much healthier, tastier food- contribute profitably to the local economyWho wouldn't want that?Well, the government and Big Ag for starters.Joel refers to himself a "lunatic farmer" because so many of the changes he thinks our food systems need are either illegal under current law or mightily resisted by the deep-pocketed corporations controlling production and distribution. But that doesn't stop him from his passion of inspiring others to take a better path. He co-owns and operates, with his family, Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia. Featured in the New York Times bestseller Omnivore's Dilemma and award-winning documentary Food Inc., the farm services more than 5,000 families, 50 restaurants, 10 retail outlets, and a farmers' market with produce and pastured beef, pork, poultry, as well as forestry products. On the farm, Joel and his staff pilot new practices, mentor young farmers, educate the public, and produce an excellent set of workshops for those looking to truly 'get their hands dirty' learning how to farm sustainably. He's a true hero to many, including me. And I predict he'll be one of yours, too, by the end of this discussion. For a very important look into the failures & promise of our nation's food system, watch this videoWORRIED ABOUT THE MARKET? And how can we pursue liberty and moral responsibility at the same time? We also highlight real-world solutions like Thomas Massie's PRIME Act and the recent Supreme Court rollback of Chevron Deference, showing how decentralization and consumer awareness are finally starting to push back. They begin with Trump EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin's pledge to release everything the government knows about geoengineering and contrails, an unprecedented transparency move that RFK Jr. called an end to the “diabolical mass poisoning.” From there, they dig into the Utah trial of Dr. Kirk Moore, who faces 35 years in prison for swapping COVID vaccines with saline and handing out fake cards, sparking calls for a presidential pardon. The show turns to agriculture, breaking down USDA efforts to reopen, and then quickly reclose, the border to Mexican cattle imports over a flesh-eating screwworm outbreak. The hosts expose how Big Ag monopolies and groups like the American Farm Bureau lobby against small ranchers, GMO labeling, and decentralizing meat processing. Other segments highlight the quiet swap of glyphosate for the even more toxic herbicide diquat in Roundup, the politics of cannabis rescheduling, and RFK Jr.'s long-game strategy to build an irrefutable legal case against vaccine manufacturers. Packed with banter, historical context, and personal stories about farming and health, this episode delivers both big-picture perspective and practical takeaways.
