She shares why this goodbye feels less nerve-wracking than saying goodbye to their brother previously. Und doch läuft dann in eurem Zusammenleben was schief.
Marin Humane Welcomes Animals from Maui's Devastating Fires
Welcome to another episode of the Adopt That Monster Podcast!Today I felt called to talk about reactivity. While this will not be about how to solve or remedy your dog's reactivity, we will explore how reactivity affects our lives as humans and how our behavior, mental and emotional states are impacted by our dog's reactivity.Unfortunately, after unconsciously practicing these emotional and thinking patterns, we act almost on auto-pilot in specific environments. Which in turn reinforces our dog's reactive reactions, and it all kind of spirals from there. My intention with this episode is that we practice awareness and make even the slightest change in our thinking patterns and emotional states so that we get to enjoy walkies with our adopted monsters more!Rather than walking around feeling like sitting ducks waiting to be shot down, feeling ashamed, having all these apologies prepared when people look at us horrified because our dog is a quote, unquote “acting out.”Or wasting our time, ruminating, and running over and over arguments we would be having with irresponsible dog owners who let their dogs run free and who often don't have a good recall in place for their dog.At the end of the day, the only person all this bad mojo going on inside of you is hurting is YOU, and the only relationship that is being negatively affected is the one you have with YOUR DOG!For that, I thought it would be helpful to explore (from a kind and compassionate perspective) three widespread situations in which we, guardians of adopted & reactive dogs, often find ourselves. Together we will be re-framing these situations so that we pivot internally and end up walking with our dogs on the street feeling empowered and at ease.Suppose you do not have a reactive dog, or you want to send this to a friend who does not have such a kind of monster on their hands. In that case, this episode is an eye-opener as to what guardians of reactive dogs go through and how they internalize their dogs' reactivity. It is my intention that you, the guardian of the reactive dog, feels seen and understood and that you, who do not have such a monster on your hands, gain a better understanding of what goes beyond the surface of a reactive-dog-human pairing when you meet them on the street, or at the park. I was gifted a dog as a very young adult. It taught me a lot about responsibility, caring for others and gave me a great hiking buddy. But before you go out and get a dog (or a pet) of your own, there are a lot of costs associated that we need to think about. Can you really truly afford a pet? Or are you not in a financial position to do so? A pet is definitely not as expensive as a child, but there are many costs you will need to be able to afford as a pet parent.
This week on Animalia, we drive home the adopt don't shop mantra with Khalid Burke, the founder of Adopt Movement, a regional organisation dedicated to finding every homeless cat and dog in the Caribbean a home. Khalid talks about his life growing up around animals, the adopt event turned into a movement, why adoption is so critical and the advantages of adopting vs shopping for a pet.Khalid's #RescueMe features three dogs in Kingston, Jamaica looking for a forever home.
We kick off 2021 with Mika Raguaa, also known as DJ Mika, a T&T import from poland by way of Germany. She was lured to Trinidad because of her love for soca music but she's also full of love for animals.Mika talks about her observations of animal welfare in T&T and shares some of her own experiences. Mika also has an NGO - Lost and Found TT - which aims to collect and preserve memories to enrich communities and families.Mika also has two adorable kittens for adoption in the #RescueMe segment.
This week on The ChickPeeps, Robbie, Tylor and Evy visit the Stray Cat Alliance headquarters and talk to founder, Christi Metropole about her work running a shelter that saves and rehomes 1,400 cats per year. We discuss the role of vegan advocacy in an animal welfare organisation, the inherent inner conflict vegans face when adopting a cat, and the imperfect solutions we have to the problem of overpopulation. Also in this episode... Christi shares how her vegan values and her love of cats went hand in hand, and the decision to advocate for veganism through her work in animal welfare.. How Christi ‘trapped' her first cat and began her mission to protect cats when she founded Stray Cat Alliance. Christi explains the ‘Trap, Neuter, Return' program and why culling animals in the wild doesn't work to control the population. Isn't spaying and neutering our companion animals taking away the reproductive rights of that individual? Christi highlights the urgency for resources for companion animals in underserved communities. We discuss the inner conflict of vegans who feed their cats a meat diet. Christi explains why Stray Cat Alliance is a ‘No-Kill' organisation and why she believes the no-kill approach ‘isn't a fantasy'. Christi gives her opinion on open admission shelters in LA. We talk about why the animal welfare community puts such a strong emphasis on the ‘Adopt, Don't Shop' initiative for companion animals. Momo and Evy discuss listener, Samantha's question as to when does the frustration towards one's non vegan friends and family subside.
