Today, I am excited to share the first class in a series of lipid masterclasses with the amazing Dr. Thomas Dayspring! Dr. Dayspring is certified in internal medicine and clinical epidemiology and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the National Lipid Association. He was previously the Educational Director of a nonprofit organization and has served as the Chief Academic Advisor for two major cardiovascular labs.  Due to the in-depth nature of my discussions with Dr. Dayspring over several sessions, each lasting nearly six hours, it seemed logical to present these masterclasses in segmented chunks to make them easier to understand. In our first class today, we dive into the fundamentals, exploring what lipids are and how lipids and fatty acids are classified. We cover the physiology and transportation of cholesterol and the role of apoptosis, apo-proteins, and apo-lipoproteins, unravel the differences between HDL, LDL, IDL, and VLDL, and explain how to calculate LDLs and triglycerides for assessing metabolic health. Dr. Dayspring also shares his preferences regarding lab values and the indicators that provide information to help him determine the early risk of cardiovascular disease. We get into some detailed aspects of physical chemistry in this episode, so I highlight the main clinical points throughout our conversation to make it more understandable. Be sure to join Dr. Dayspring and me for our next episode in the lipid masterclass series. IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: What are lipids, and why are they important? Dr. Dayspring explains what triglycerides are. How lipids get absorbed and transported throughout the body What lipoproteins are, and how they get classified How cholesterols get calculated The impact of triglycerides on cholesterol levels and cardiovascular health How high triglyceride levels can indicate early insulin resistance or increased ASCVD risk What is the role of HDL particles? How metabolic syndrome impacts cardiovascular health Bio: Thomas Dayspring MD is a Fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the National Lipid Association and is certified in internal medicine and clinical lipidology. After practicing in New Jersey for 37 years, in 2012, he moved to Virginia. He served as an educational director for a nonprofit cardiovascular foundation and until mid-2019 as a Chief Academic Advisor for two major CV laboratories. Since then, he has served as a virtual cardiovascular / lipidology educator. Career-wise he has given over 4000 domestic (in all 50 states) and several international lectures, including over 600 CME programs on atherothrombosis, lipids/lipoproteins (and their treatment), vascular biology, biomarker testing, and women's cardiovascular issues. He has authored several manuscripts and lipid textbook chapters and performed several podcasts. For several years he was an Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Lipidology. The labor market continues to soften The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTs) showed job openings continued to fall across the country in the month of July. It was reported that available positions fell to 7.67 million in the month, which 237,000 lower than June's downwardly revised number and well below the estimate of 8.1 million. While this marked the lowest level since January 2021, there were still close to 1.1 job openings per available worker. I do believe we still have some room left for normalization before these declines in job openings becomes problematic. This news also caused the relationship between the 10- and 2-year Treasury yield to uninvert for the first time since June 2022. Generally long-term rates are higher than short term rates and I believe we will see the yield curve continue to steepen as the Fed cuts rates. While the curve usually reverts before a recession hits, I still believe we aren't heading towards a problematic recession in the coming months. The labor market is definitely slowing Nonfarm payrolls increased by 142,000 in the month of August, which was up from 89,000 in July, but below the estimate of 161,000. Both June and July also saw downward revisions, which totaled a substantial 86,000. Leisure and hospitality (+46K), healthcare and social assistance (+44.1K), construction (+34K), and government (+24K) led the way for job gains in the month. Manufacturing (-24K), retail trade (-11.1K), information (-7K), and utilities (-200) all subtracted jobs from the headline number. I was also surprised to see professional and business services only create 8K jobs in the month and I believe that is a good indicator that the economy is definitely in a slowdown. While the numbers don't look great, I still believe there is no cause for major concern at this point. With an unemployment rate of 4.2% and the major gains we saw coming out of Covid, it was unlikely we'd see that type of labor market continue. I still believe it's possible we see a soft landing, but in that scenario, you wouldn't see major payroll gains every month and the prints would likely be more muted and even softer than the readings we have seen the last few months. My expectation is for the Fed to cut rates by 0.25% at the September meeting followed by cuts of 0.25% at both the November and December meetings. The economy is getting back to normal It may feel like the economy is weak, but I believe that is because we are comparing it to an excessive economy that had too much money floating around and people spending it pretty much on anything they wanted while not caring about how much they paid. Now that extra cash is gone and we're back to normal. That might feel uncomfortable for some people as they now can't spend so easily on things like luxury items. Proof of this can be seen in the used luxury watch market which was very hot, but has now seen prices fall over the last 9 quarters because the demand is gone. I don't care if you're buying stocks, homes, or luxury items, if you overpay during the hype, you'll probably end up losing money down the road. I believe it's always best to buy things on sale, even if that means being patient for a few years. There's a lot of talk about company's price gouging, but the numbers tell a different story! There is no doubt that with inflation, prices for many items have increased over the last five years. But are businesses taking advantage of these higher prices to increase their profit margins? Looking at just the companies in the S&P 500, the average price markup between the selling price and the cost is 54%. That compares to 51% five years ago. According to research from financial company Bloomberg, they say the grocery business markup is actually down from five years ago and when looking at the average profit margins for grocery stores, it is now 0.3% lower than five years ago. You may not like the information because we want to blame somebody for paying higher prices, but based on these numbers companies are not price gouging. We do believe every business has a right to make a decent profit for being in business, but the free market and competition should eliminate price gauging and keep the market balanced. How the Time Value of Money Impacts Roth Conversions When you do a Roth conversion, the amount you convert into a Roth account is taxable when you do it. First, this means you are paying taxes now that you didn't need to.  Second, the question people have is, “If I don't pay that tax now and instead got to keep those dollars invested, what would that grow to and does that offset the benefit of doing the conversion?”  In other words, is having extra tax-free money in the future worth paying taxes now when considering the time value of money? Time value of money is the concept that dollars today are more valuable than dollars in the future because dollars today may be invested and grow over time while dollars in the future are worth less due to inflation.  This is an extremely important concept and needs to be considered when making almost all financial decisions from Social Security to paying debt to investing in general. However, when it comes to Roth conversions this should not be considered.  For example, let's consider someone making a $50,000 Roth conversion who is in the 20% bracket and will be for the rest of their life.  On that conversion they will owe $10,000 in taxes (20%) meaning the remaining $40,000 makes it into the Roth account.  Money in a pre-tax account and a Roth may be invested exactly the same so we'll assume an 8% compounded return.  After 10 years, the $40,000 in the Roth grows to $86,357, which is all tax free.  The question though is what would that $10,000 have grown to if it didn't have to be paid 10 years prior?  Well, if no conversion was done, all $50,000 would have remained in a pre-tax account growing at the same 8%, so after 10 years it would be worth $107,946.25, obviously more than the $86,357 in a Roth.  However, that $107k has not yet been taxed so if accessing it still costs the same 20% tax that would be $21,589.25, meaning the after-tax amount is… $86,357 or the exact same as we would have in the Roth.  What this means from a time value of money perspective is, since pre-tax and Roth accounts may have identical investments and returns, the present value of the tax on the conversion is the same as the future value of the tax if there is no conversion, assuming the tax rate is the same. In our example the future value of $10,000 is $21,589.25 assuming an 8% return over 10 years, which is true. Therefore, when considering a Roth conversion, it is not the time value of money that is relevant, but the tax rate during the conversion compared to the tax rate in the future.  In our example we assumed a consistent 20% tax rate which is not realistic.  Over time income levels and sources change as well as the tax rates themselves.  If Roth conversions are performed when the individual tax rate is lower than it will be when pre-tax retirement withdrawals are being taken, the conversion is helpful. For instance, if we think our retirement tax rate will be more than 20%, a conversion should be done now if it is 20%.   Companies Discussed: DraftKings Inc. I am excited to share our fourth class in our informative Lipid Masterclass series today, with the esteemed Dr. Thomas Dayspring. Dr. Dayspring is certified in internal medicine and clinical lipidology and is a distinguished fellow of the American College of Physicians and the National Lipid Association. He brings a wealth of expertise to our discussion today. In this class, we dive into lipid and lipoprotein dynamics during the menopausal transition, exploring the impact of estrogen on gut health and its effects on laboratory findings. We look at the differences between hyper absorbers and hyper synthesizers, sharing clinical insights on routine lipid panels that can let you know if you are one of those individuals. We talk about Boston Heart Testing, highlighting the impact of specific biomarkers on brain health lipids and lipoproteins, and we get into the staggering differences between the half-lives of peripheral cholesterol and brain cholesterol. We discuss lipid permeability across the blood-brain barrier, highlighting those at risk for brain health concerns as they age, and we reveal strategies for managing lipid abnormalities. We also focus on LP(a), an ApoB lipoprotein with potent atherogenic and thrombotic properties, and its implications regarding calcific aortic stenosis.  I am sure you will find this enlightening conversation with Dr. Dayspring invaluable. There is one more class yet to come in this masterclass series. Be sure to listen in! IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: How cholesterol absorption in the gut increases in perimenopausal women How hyper cholesterol absorbers tend to have elevated HDL cholesterol The impact of phytosterols on cholesterol absorption When should hyperabsorbers consider treatment? What research has shown regarding the differing effects of estrogen on brain health for older versus younger menopausal women What happens if a statin crosses the blood-brain barrier? How cholesterol synthesis relates to cognitive impairment  The importance of understanding LP-PLA2 test results How Lp(a) levels in women tend to fluctuate, particularly during menopause Should women with heart disease consider hormone replacement therapy?   Bio: Thomas Dayspring MD is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the National Lipid Association certified in internal medicine and clinical lipidology. Among them is Jack Harlow's surprise Jackman effort, which found him delivering bars on bars across 10 featureless titles at the end of April. While  many were happy to hear the Kentucky native return to his rapper roots, the project has failed to achieve the same support that his sophomore release Come Home The Kids Miss You, amassed in 2022. That album, which features Pharrell, Justin Timberlake, Drake, and more, landed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 after earning 113K album-equivalent units (including 8K pure sales) during its first week out. Jackman, on the other hand, earned Harlow a spot at No. 13, with just over 34K in streaming sales and 2K in pure for a total of 36K. Topics covered [0:09] Launch day for the podcast is scheduled for Tuesday, 7 June 2022 — dropping 3 episodes on the same time! [0:40] What is your return on investment going to be from listening to this podcast? [0:55] Adrian discusses the early days of PyImageSearch (his old company), including: graduating with his PhD, working a job he didn't like, being unhappy, grinding on 80+ hour work weeks, losing his job, and then putting his back against the wall to grow PyImageSearch to a successful, self-sustaining online education business [2:18] Working a job you don't necessarily "love" to pay the bills while you simultaneously work on a side hustle [3:03] When PyImageSearch first started, it was truly a grind...but it paid off, tremendously [3:37] Adrian loses his full-time job and has to make a tough decision — "Is now the time to make PyImageSearch my full-time gig?" [4:45] Adrian considers putting his back against the wall, making PyImageSearch his full-time job, and growing it, one of the best decisions he's ever made [5:00] The PyImageSearch Gurus Kickstarter campaign, the first crowdfunding campaign Adrian ran, raised over $34K [5:20] Developers have an unfair advantage in the online education space (i.e., creating blogs, authoring eBooks, building courses, etc.) [5:40] If you have more than 5 years experience in any area of computer science, you likely already have enough knowledge to (1) start a website/blog, (2) create an eBook or online course, and (3) sell your content and build a profitable side hustle that could eventually replace your full-time income [6:28] Since the PyImageSearch acquisition, Adrian has realized his passion is helping and educating others, specifically developers/programmers, on how to build their own online education/info product businesses [7:17] Info Product Mastery will provide you with the path to follow to be successful Links from the show Official Info Product Mastery site PyImageSearch (Adrian's old company that was acquired in 2021) PyImageSearch Gurus Kickstarter campaign If you have any questions from this episode, or have a question you want me to answer on the show, please submit your question via our contact form. Lumber sold for $348 per thousand board feet before the pandemic and peaked to a record high of $1,500 per thousand board feet in May 2021.  Thankfully, prices have begun to fall in the last few weeks.  I checked lumber prices today and they are around $935 per thousand board feet, which is still considerably higher than prices were when many of us started thinking building. And lumber prices fell several months ago and went back up, so we're in unpredictable times. With that in mind, I thought it would be a good idea to revisit an episode that I did on 2 alternatives to traditional stick-built, lumber-framed homes. Those alternatives are Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) and Insulated Concrete Forms, (ICFs). Both SIPs and ICFs provide both insulation and structural framing components for the house.   According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the cost of a standard 2,000 sq. ft. home has increased by $34K since April 2020.   A similar 2000 sq ft house built with Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) also increased in price, but by only $8K or about 30%. That's according to analyst PlanB, who on June 20 released his latest sentiment-busting bullish BTC price prognosis. "Bitcoin is below $34K, triggered by Elon Musk's energy FUD and China's mining crack down. There is also a more fundamental reason that we see weakness in June, and possibly July. In this episode, we talk to Sean about what inspired the online training course, his thoughts on various avenues available to musicians, and, of course, tips on becoming a better piano player. Digital transformation comes to energy, autos, and currency - Jon Markman and Greg King join Alpha Trader (Podcast)

This week’s Alpha Trader podcast features hosts Aaron Task and Stephen Alpher speaking with Jon Markman, president and founder of Markman Capital, and Greg King, CEO and founder of Osprey Funds. Markman (who previously appeared on Alpha Trader in October) continues to believe the Fed ignited what’s going to be a decade-long bull run in stocks with their actions in response to the Covid crisis last year. With the Fed continuing to provide plenty of liquidity to the system, he’s targeting 92K for the Dow (DJI) in the next decade, and 34K on the Nasdaq (COMP). Turning to individual names/sectors, Markman is still spying the opportunity in digital transformation, but this time with a twist - it’s old-school energy and auto companies whose business models are changing from nuts and bolts to 0s and 1s. Shareholders of names like Schlumberger (SLB), Baker Hughes (BKR), General Motors (GM), Ford (F), and Volkswagen ([[VLKAF]], [[VWAGY]]) are set to benefit in a big way. And the massive investment the auto players are making into EVs means a re-rating not just for them, but suppliers like Magna International (MGA), NXP Semiconductor (NXPI), and Analog Devices (ADI). Markman’s got plenty more digital transformation ideas, including a speculative play on cryptocurrencies, and that’s VPC Impact Acquisition (VIH), a SPAC that earlier this year inked a deal to take digital asset marketplace Bakkt Holdings public. Next up is Greg King, whose Osprey Bitcoin Trust (OBTC) recently launched as a lower-cost competitor to the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC). A longtime investor in bitcoin (BTC-USD), King isn’t put off by the wild volatility (including a plunge from $53K to $49K right about the time we were speaking). He notes that whenever bitcoin pierces a previous all-time high (as it did late last year by finally climbing past $20K), the average subsequent return is 900% - this bull move has plenty more to run. “Not your key, not your coins,” is something the hodlers like to say, but King says we all have limitations - not everyone is in a position to start up an account with an online exchange and possibly even custody their own bitcoin. A trust such as Osprey offers a fee of just 0.49%, is something that can be purchased inside an existing brokerage or retirement account, and safety isn’t an issue as all the Trust’s coins are held in custody by Fidelity. In this episode of the Alchemist Nation Real Estate Podcast, I talk to Raj Tekchandani where I wanted to know how he got into real estate in the first place. He says that he got into real estate investing by accident because he comes from a tech background and he wanted to build the next Facebook or something like that where he started a bunch of startups some of which were good and some weren't good. He recalls that in 2012 a friend of his asked him if he could invest in a condo and he was like no because he had a full-time job, working hard and making the money which he eventually did. He showed him the pictures and the prices around Orlando and he was amazed and the market was down by then and he bought his first condo in Orlando Florida for $34K and that was his accidental entry into the real estate industry from where he has bought a couple of condos. He now owns 9 condos in Orlando and he has seen the appreciation go up and the cashflow is coming. Once he saw the cashflow come in, he was like this is great and why was he struggling with tech startups working so many hours, who knows that if the company would have gone public or not, exit or not. Raj offers 3 pieces of advice to 20-year-old Raj on how to see the world with more clarity and getting to invest sooner. 1) - Invest in yourself. 2) - Take Action. 3) - Always keeping trying to add value. Modularity in Healthcare Construction - Episode #062 Folks we took this week off from a regular publication of Healthcare360 as we enter into the holiday season, BUT this is the first follow up deep dive to what our new Thursday publication will be. So,,,, lets build on Today's topic as a continuation of my conversation with University of Miami Health System’s Value Analysis Executive Director Nate Yuen. As you all remember there was a specific point in my conversation during episode #059 where Nate referred to modularity in Healthcare, specifically modular wall panels. Nate referred to lessons learned from his role as a driving force in the planning for and coordination of the Mount Sinai Medical Center’s new 7-story Skolnick Surgical Tower and 34K sq ft Hildebrandt Emergency Center, in Miami, FL, simultaneous projects totalling over $275M. This conversation was very insightful and I want to expand on this idea personally, and show how this forward thinking will benefit all of us in healthcare from a patient consumer all the way to healthcare executive leadership levels. OUR CALL TO ACTION: Ask Questions! This month we at Healthcare360 are celebrating our 1 year anniversary of Healthcare 360 - The best way you could help us celebrate our first year is to share and provide feedback. Today’s guest was a driving force in the planning for and coordination of the Mount Sinai Medical Center’s 7-story Skolnick Surgical Tower and 34K sq ft Hildebrandt Emergency Center, in Miami, FL, simultaneous projects totalling $275M. Meet my friend Nate Yuen who is currently bringing that expertise to the University of Miami Health System as the Executive Director of Value Analysis, I am honored to have worked as a vendor with Nate on the Mount Sinai projects, and his ability to balance it all, continues to astonish me. I have been looking forward to this conversation and today we jump into the relationship of the hospital admin and vendor while providing an in-depth look into these forward thinking projects. Topics discussed include future proofing, modularity and expectation management, as well as cyber security and bottlenecks in technology. I hope you enjoy many takeaways from this conversation and I plan to build on this important conversation on the vendor/admin relationship, something we in the healthcare industry will benefit from. Here's some of what happened:Show Notes:Question 1:“I was previously featured on episode 291. I bought a home in New Jersey for $148,000 with $1110 monthly payment on the $114K mortgage at 2.75%. My other expenses come to $400 per month. I'm making $47,000 per year, hoping to increase my income in the future. My Roth IRA is up to $34K now, and my student loans are down to $11K at 3%. A 1-year emergency fund is about $20K to me, so what do I do with that money?“Pete: She lives well within her means and is incredibly stable. What should she do? With relief options available, wiping out student loan debt wouldn't be the highest item on my list.Damian: She's got some opportunities as this point. with nearly two years of savings sitting there waiting. She could get rid of student loans entirely. She could max out funding retirement accounts. And she's not in a rush, not even being 30 years old yet.Question 2:“Bryan here again…my girlfriend and I, both 26, currently lease an 700 sq. ft. apartment in Westchester, NY for $2600 per month. For our next place, I'll be working from home more due to COVID-19. We want more space now, so I see our options as rent a 2 BR apartment for $3K per month, but hearing of a possibly disastrous rental market coming. Or purchase a townhome, running at least $750K with 15% down, and 3% interest, for a monthly fee of about $4K per month. I'm hesitant to commit due to other homeownership costs and our short-term interest in a house. What do you two think?“Damian: I would not want to be tied into an interest-only mortgage with all that's coming. Renting is the only answer here.Pete: I hate interest-only mortgages with a passion. Ask the landlord for a month-to-month agreement for added flexibility.Tune in for the featured segment. Something new for the podcast today.  Life is hectic and sometimes you need to do things out of necessity.  I was unable to produce an episode for this week, so I thought I would go back and find one of my most popular episodes and provide an opportunity for my new listeners to hear it and my dedicated listeners to remember the fun we had in discussing the outrageously priced bottle of wine.  I got together with some wine writing friends to discuss a topic in the wine world that has been hitting the headlines quite a bit lately.  How much is too much to spend on bottle of wine? The topic was triggered by the announcement of Liber Pater declared that he was going to produce 550 bottles of his 2015 vintage and release them for $34K. Now, that may be a price tag that the majority of us couldn’t even contemplate spending, but then on Instagram, a post by Amber Burke of winetraveleats, posted a photo of a bottle of Nickel & Nickel, with a hefty price tag of $185. This triggered a rather long back and back debate over whether the wine was worth it.  With that, I opted to get my friends together and have a little heart to heart about what we are willing to spend on a bottle of wine. And is any bottle worth $34K.   On this episode with me: Anatoli Levine of Talkavino Amber Burke of WineTravelEats Michael Kelly of California Wine and Wineries Slainte! What should I do with my life? A lot of us in the LGBTQ community seem to settle for jobs that are in the realm of easy possibility rather than finding and fulfilling our true purpose. But how do you know what you’re called to do? How do you pick a career that’s perfect for you?  On this episode of Queer Money, I’m sharing my own long road to purpose-driven work. I explain how I acquired $34K in credit card debt after college and what inspired my transition from retail to a career in financial services. I describe the early signs from the universe that were steering me toward my purpose, including an inspiring episode of Oprah and the feat of paying off our $51K in debt. I go on to discuss the kick in the pants the universe gave me in the form of depression and a difficult boss, weighing in on how our savings gave me the resources to walk away from my W-2 and start the Debt Free Guys platform. Listen in for insight around how my life has changed now that I’m pursuing my true calling and get inspired to pick a career that fulfills YOUR purpose!

Social Security:   Most people believe they will receive Social Security upon retirement, but how much and when to start collecting the benefit is an unknown.  In today’s podcast, Greg and Dan discuss the history of Social Security and how it was created to offset some living expenses after retirement.    Most people can expect to receive anywhere from $10-34K depending on how much they paid into the system. The expected amount may be an easier calculation than deciding on WHEN to collect Social Security. Dan explains to Greg that the decision to postpone collecting Social Security after the age of 65 has some benefits.  This decision can be made by yourself and your spouse using a free online Social Security Calculator, but one benefits greatly when hiring a Financial Advisor as the variables into this decision are many and quite complex. Don’t make this expensive error!   Have you considered when to collect your Social Security benefit?   What variables are present in your life that will affect your decision? Did you know that once the decision when to collect Social Security is made, you are held to that decision as it cannot be changed?   Talk you your Financial Planner about when to start your Social Security benefit, because a uninformed decision can be costly.     Contact Dan Joss at jossfinanacial.com

It’s the dog days of summer, but for Rachel and Brian, it’s just silly season. In this politics-free episode, a woman hid meth in her vagina and a man hid cocaine in his toupee. Another woman got an octopus stuck on her face and then waited two days before going to the hospital. Men in England are paying big bucks to get wedgies in public and to clean the home of a 68-year-old dominatrix. People in Hollywood are taking out Disgrace Insurance to protect themselves from public shaming, which is measured by the Moral Outcry Index. And just when you thought we had hit bottom with Operation Varsity Blues, some wealthy parents are putting their college-age kids up for adoption so that they can be eligible for need-based financial aid packages. Heather has ascended to the next level of badass coaches, now building a six figure and multiple six figure earning business in just ONE year. Kudos to her for really crushing it! Today she shares her story about how she got started with LifeChanger Academy and her success even though she had no experience as a health or fitness coach! Soon after her initial call with LifeChanger Academy, she quit her marketing job and has made $25K in less than 6 months, in comparison to her previous salary of $34K for a whole year! I believe Heather is going to be at the Legacy Level, growing her business up to that $100K/month, million dollar earning level before she knows it. There were so many people that told her she couldn’t do it, and she is ready to keep proving them wrong!   At the end of this episode, please leave Sterling a review. Successful Culture ensures organizations have the strongest internal infrastructures and external support systems required to build their greatest organizations, and reach their greatest potential. Playing Small Moment When Marissa worked for a company before starting her own business, she was a protégé to the CEO. She had built a business case about why she deserved a raise and the CEO told her she would never be worth more than $34K to his company. For a moment, Marissa thought maybe I am only worth a certain amount. She then remembered her mother saying “Never let anyone else determine your value.” The Wake Up Call After a government initiative to only accept lowest-cost providers, Marissa decided her values were not alignment with this style of business, so she left for her own company. Style of Leadership Marissa is a servant leader. She believes in a supreme service model for those who work for her and those she works for. What Are You Excited About? Marissa’s book, Built to SCALE, helps companies build advisory boards. She is excited to work with CEOs to implement the SCALE model. Aired 092913 A new documentary film opened Friday 9/27 in 23 cities, including Los Angeles, starring former Labor Secretary in the Clinton Administration, Berkeley professor, best-selling author, and frequent guest on this program, Robert Reich. Titled INEQUALITY FOR ALL, can it do for this "inconvenient truth" what the original did for climate change? My first guest this week will be the film's director JACOB KORNBLUTH. Early reviews are positive. It's got a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93%. Here's Ken Turan in the LA TIMES: Smart, funny and articulate, Robert Reich is the university professor we all wish we'd had. He's so accessible and entertaining he takes a subject that sounds soporific and makes it come alive like you wouldn't believe. Here's just a few numbers to remind you how crazy things have gotten: * In 1978, a typical male worker made $48K, a typical member of the top 1% $393K. In 2010, a typical male worker made $34K - a drop of 30%, while a typical member of the top 1% made $1,101K a gain of 180%. * In 2013, the richest 400 Americans have more wealth than the bottom 150M. * And as remarkable as those numbers are, I think the most important number in the film is this one: Consumer spending = 70% of the US economy. (i.e., Middle class = job creators). The last quarter of the show, we'll get an important update on the stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant from HARVEY WASSERMAN.
