Counterculture with Authority: The Calling of Every Christian • Friday Service To Give: www.ToddCoconato.com/give Website: www.PastorTodd.org Christianity has always stood against the grain of the world's values. From the earliest believers who faced persecution to Christians today who stand against cultural norms, we are called to be counterculture. But what gives us the authority to do this? It's not in our own strength; it's the authority given to us by Jesus. As we live with this authority, we're empowered to live boldly, resist worldly influence, and shine as lights in the darkness. Today, we'll dive into lesser-used scriptures that reveal why we have this authority and why standing apart from the world is integral to our faith. 1. We're Called to Live Differently, Not Conform From the beginning, God's people have been called to be set apart. Our authority begins with the choice to reject the world's influence and live by God's standards. 1 Peter 2:11-12: “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.” Leviticus 20:26: “And you shall be holy to Me, for I the Lord am holy, and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be Mine.” 2. We Have Authority in Jesus' Name Our authority is not rooted in who we are but in who He is. Jesus grants us authority to carry out His will, even in a world that resists it. Luke 10:19: “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Ephesians 1:21: “Far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.” 3. We're Empowered by the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit fills us with power and guides us to live counterculture. Through the Spirit, we can discern what is of God and what is of the world. 1 John 4:4: “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 4. We're Equipped to Stand Against Worldly Values As Christians, we don't wrestle against people but against the spiritual forces behind the world's values. This spiritual authority allows us to live by God's standards, even when they clash with society's norms. Isaiah 54:17: “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord. Our authority lies in God's promise to defend and equip us. As we stand firm in His righteousness, we have His assurance that no weapon formed against us will succeed. Philippians 3:20: “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” 5. We're Called to Be Light in Darkness Christians are meant to be a light, bringing the truth of Jesus into a world that prefers darkness. Our authority is demonstrated by living righteously, even when it's unpopular. Matthew 5:14-16: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Ephesians 5:11: “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” 6. Our Identity as God's Children Gives Us Authority Understanding our identity as children of God fuels our ability to live counterculturally. As His children, we inherit His power, His love, and His authority. 1 Peter 2:9: “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” Romans 8:37: “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Christianity has always been countercultural, and it's meant to be. We're called to stand out, not by our strength, but through the authority given to us by Jesus. We don't have to bend to the world's standards because our identity, strength, and calling come from God Himself. When we embrace our role as countercultural believers, we glorify Him in a world that needs His light more than ever. re_3895327_eventad7432c8e02a4652a8b192f9d6e6d19d
Porcelain Predications - Preaching the lessons and principles of porcelain slabs
Be Heavy or Be Light? When you are a stone shop already producing 3cm stone slab showers, it would make sense to pivot to a lighter, thinner material that makes your installer's lives easier. That would be the easiest decision for Affordable Quality Marble and Granite's Chris Hildebrand of Aiken, South Carolina could make while being an early adopter of porcelain and ultra-compact materials. When Dekton came knocking in the early 2010's, the hardest part was adapting his equipment and finding the right tooling. What are the suggestions he gives to other stone countertop shops, is wood an appropriate substrate, and how his sales team is able to become educated on porcelain are just a few topics we cover in this episode.

Join us for a second detour from "A Song for Summer." In this message I fill out the "picture" I have of Hillside in the "notebook" of my imagination. Wanna help realize Hillside's Be Light in the World vision? It's as simple as this: Come to church, chat up an old friend, draw out a new person in conversation, compliment a kid, sing with abandon, lean into the prayers, and listen carefully to the sermon. That's all it takes. I encourage you to arrive early so that you're prepared to meet with the living God. Looking forward to seeing you! Come worship as Dan Seitz teaches from Matthew 14:14 and Ephesians 4:13. If you are new to Hillside and are looking for ways to get connected and build community, visit our “Get Connected” page: https://hillsidecovenant.churchcenter.com/pages/get-connected We welcome you to Hillside and are so glad you joined us today! Listen to Nova chat with entrepreneur Oliver Smykacz. Oliver is the founder of the Be Light app. It uses a combination of light and sound to make mental health and mindfulness easier and more accessible to everyone. Oliver has traveled around the world and has a passion for neuroscience, light and sound therapy, breathwork, and more. He has lived in Asia and learned healing techniques from the monks. Oliver explains his why. He is doing this because he was running through life, traveling all around, and running himself ragged. But then he took a new path – and he was “guided” on his new course to give away less of his power and empower others, too. Being aware and being mindful of yourself gets lost. Learning that, he found new ways to reconnect. He talks about “subconscious programs” and rewiring our habits. Nova asks Oliver about unleashing our superpowers. Oliver gets into the power of manifestation, frequency, and energy – and how we can choose to control that. They go on to talk about true, genuine mindfulness and how they each define it. Making mindfulness and meditation easy and fun Oliver says that making mindfulness and meditation easy and fun is a matter of perspective. He goes on to explain how frequency is energy. And frequencies are our brain waves. Outside frequencies can be applied to stimulate our brains. The Be Light app uses a combination of light and sound frequencies for a new approach to meditation for mindfulness. Oliver talks about how activating the body (such as by dancing crazily) is a fun way to make yourself mindful. Then, you are in a good place to meditate and be mindful. Recognize and accept that perfection of practice is not necessary for mindfulness and meditation. Nova shares a profound moment she had with meditation. What is your why? Fr. Frank Pavone's Homily for June 14, 2022: Be Light of the World for the Unborn by Priests for Life
In a world where self-identifying as a Christ-follower draws criticism, exclusion, and persecution, it's important for us to remember the words of our Lord. He said we are salt and we are light. But, what does it mean to be salty and shining? In this message, my hope is that you'll be challenged to stick with Jesus even when others pressure you to conform to new ways of thinking and living. Today is your day. You are who God has in your home, your neighborhood, and your workplace. Be salt. Be light. Listen to this episode on Spotify or Apple Podcasts https://youtu.be/4z20Ou6qzkI Matthew 5:10-12 Jesus fully expected that his followers would suffer persecution. The world reviles, persecutes, and utters evil against us because of righteousness' sake and because of our association with Jesus. We do not seek negative attention, but when it comes, we can take comfort knowing that the world persecuted the prophets before us in much the same way. What's more, Jesus tells us to “rejoice and be glad” since our reward is great. Matthew 5:13 Based on the concern for losing its taste, we can conclude that Jesus' point here is that his follows should retain their distinctive salty flavor. We should not blend in with the world too well. Swapping out Christ's teachings for the world's fads and whims results in a comprised Christianity that is as useful as flavorless salt. We need not seek to be weird in the eyes of the world but instead endeavor to follow Jesus' teachings, and let the chips fall where they may. Matthew 5:14 Unlike monasteries and hidden communes, Christ's followers have an important role to play as the lights of the world. God's ultimate goal for His city on a hill is to draw all nations to Himself (Isaiah 2:2-4; 42:6; 49:6; 60:1-3, 18-22). We seek to embody God's future Kingdom in the present by how we live now, both individually and communally. As the city on the hill, our goal is to attract and invite. Matthew 5:15-16 A light exists to illuminate. Putting a lamp under a basket doesn't make any sense. Likewise, we cannot limit our faith to the privacy of our homes and churches. We also have an illuminating, prophetic, public role to play, just like Jesus did. Our goal is for others to see our good deeds so that they give glory to God. In the end, God will wipe away our tears and remove our reproach (Isaiah 25:6-9). —— Links —— Read the article that goes with this message here To join Salt & Light Study Night via Zoom, visit their facebook page or email them here For more about the teachings of Jesus see Podcast 30: Rabbi Jesus and Podcast 78: The Insidious Dangers of Self-Righteousness See more episodes on Christian living Support Restitutio by donating here or designate Restitutio as your charity of choice for Amazon purchases Join our Restitutio Facebook Group and follow us on Twitter @RestitutioSF Leave a voice message via SpeakPipe with questions or comments and we may play them out on the air Intro music: Good Vibes by MBB Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-SA 3.0) Free Download / Stream: Music promoted by Audio Library. The Moon is full in critical Capricorn June 24, 2021. Busy Mercury will move direct on the 22nd. Magical Neptune will retrograde on the 25th. Times are changing fast. A combination of moving forward and looking back is happening. If you stay still a minute you can feel the world morph into something new. Jupiter just went retrograde on the June 20 Solstice as well. The planet's energy intensifies when they are turning around. Have you had any lucky breaks, grand ideas, honest talks, or new beliefs land in your lap? Jupiter believes in justice and truth. Mercury will finally move forward on the 22nd giving us a break, communications can open up in unexpected ways. Our minds will be busy heading off in all directions. Life is too interesting to spend all your time worrying. This Capricorn full moon is here to help us get in touch with what we need to feel fulfilled at home and within our family and roots. But it also helps us to see how we can create a solid future that can be counted on. Capricorn energy is practical. It is disciplined and able to put of today for what it can create tomorrow. Make your plans. See if they hold up. The full moon is connected to the trine between Jupiter and the Sun. It helps us open to the blessings that are our birthright. We deserve support to be our true selves. Life is conspiring to give you that support. Hold strong, everything is going to be ok. Yay! Neptune is turning retrograde just after the full moon on June 25th, 2021. Keep centered.. Neptune is always involved with misunderstanding or deception. So keep your heart light bright. You know the truth when you hear it. If you are uncertain, wait. If its not an absolute yes its a no. This is a crazy time to be alive. Which is why we chose it. So when you feel like its all too much, remember you came to lead the way. If your head is spinning from all the madness, take a minute, rest, release, relax. It is our clear vibration anchored in love that his planet needs. We set the tone- keep steady. Those who can will resonate. Be Light, Beam Love. Light doesn't have to deny that darkness exists - it just has to walk into the room and BE LIGHT.
Light is amazing! It's a particle, and a wave. Light illuminates, guides, grows, and attracts. So what does it mean to be light in a world with so much darkness around us? This weekend Pastor Brandon will explore the additive qualities of light that need to be in us through our new series in 1 John called "Be Light."
Be the Change Part 1: "Be the Change!" The world, and yes, the Church needs to change. Everyone seems to live in a state of anger and offense, and we wonder why we as Christians can not impact those around us. It is time for the Church to "Be the Change". and this change must begin in our hearts. Be Light; Be the Change.
This Bless! Weekend, special guest Reverend Samuel Rodriguez speaks about how the church is a light in this dark world in his powerful message, “Blessed to Be Light.”
