We are gearing up for a special event - People Like Me - a two-day immersive retreat focused on building intercultural competency, strengthening inclusive leadership, and helping churches reflect the rich diversity of their communities. Led by our very own, Rev. Katrena King, our Conference's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Specialist, the retreat offers tools like the Intercultural Development Inventory, also known as the IDI - it will also include space for authentic storytelling, which will be done in a very unique way – and workshops on everything from tough conversations to vision casting. And that brings us to our guest. Samuel Rodriguez is the Director of Congregational Development for the Illinois Great Rivers Conference. For over 27 years, he's been helping churches plant, grow, and thrive—especially in multicultural and multi-ethnic contexts. He will be the special guest at People Like Me. Join us for a conversation about why events like People Like Me matter—and how the future of the Church depends on the kind of work he and Katrena will be doing in Woodworth.

Host Ruben Navarrette interviews his friend and spirtual adviser Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, one of the nation's most prominent Latino evangelical leaders. They discuss faith, social activism and impactful storytelling. They also talk about the moral soul of America, which seems to be hurting at the moment -- and what can be done to heal it. Finally, they delve into the inner workings of Generation Z and explore what religion and faith means to a younger generation of Americans.
In this powerful discussion, we explore the transformative power of commitment in our spiritual journey. The conversation highlights how cynicism and skepticism can hinder our growth, while faith and perseverance can lead to profound spiritual experiences. We're reminded of the early Christian martyrs, particularly through the story of a 3rd-century believer in Germany who carried a scroll with scriptures, even when it was dangerous to do so. This parallel challenges us to examine our own dedication to faith in the face of modern challenges. The message emphasizes the importance of rooting ourselves in a church community, even when it's imperfect, drawing inspiration from the Apostle Paul's teachings on unity and love. As we reflect on this, we're encouraged to put on our spiritual 'seatbelt' and commit to growth, allowing God's word to change us rather than trying to change it to fit our preferences. This perspective shift can lead to a renewed sense of purpose and joy in our faith journey. -- Connect with: Pastor Adam Mesa https://www.instagram.com/amesa/ Samuel Rodriguez https://www.instagram.com/samuelmrod/ Jermaine Baker https://www.instagram.com/verlonbakerofficial/ -- Don't forget to stay connected with us: Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4OvpFp9OB9_DgVdVVbXhFg Instagram https://www.instagram.com/beyond.theletter/ Tik Tok https://www.tiktok.com/discover/beyond-the-letter -- Have a question? In our spiritual journey, we often grapple with the tension between biblical truth and cultural pressures. This conversation delves into the challenges of shepherding people through complex issues, particularly around sexuality and identity. The key message is about creating a safe space for honest exploration while remaining grounded in Scripture. Romans 12:1-2 reminds us to be 'living sacrifices,' not conforming to the world but being transformed by the renewal of our minds. This passage emphasizes the importance of surrendering our whole selves to God, including our struggles and desires. As we navigate these sensitive topics, we're encouraged to approach them with compassion, curiosity, and a willingness to learn from others' experiences. This balanced approach allows us to hold firm to biblical principles while showing Christ-like love and understanding to those wrestling with their faith and identity. -- Connect with: Pastor Adam Mesa https://www.instagram.com/amesa/ Samuel Rodriguez https://www.instagram.com/samuelmrod/ Pastor Will Chung https://www.instagram.com/willkchung/ -- Don't forget to stay connected with us: Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4OvpFp9OB9_DgVdVVbXhFg Instagram https://www.instagram.com/beyond.theletter/ Tik Tok https://www.tiktok.com/discover/beyond-the-letter -- Have a question? Even for the most devout people of faith, the Holy Spirit can be mysterious and the least understood person of the Holy Trinity.Bible scholars point to Abrahamic religions, where the Holy Spirit has equal footing with God the father and the Son of God, who is Jesus.According to Acts 5:3-4, the Holy Spirit is considered to be fully God, co-equal and co-eternal with God the Father and the Son of God. The Holy Spirit is known to be the source of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.In John 14:26, the Holy Spirit is seen as our comforter, teaching people all things and allowing people to experience and witness its presence and power. In his latest book, “Fresh Oil, Holy Fire, New Wine: Living the Vibrant Holy Spirit-Filled Life”, Rev. Samuel Rodriguez challenges you to reconsider what you know and how to relate to the Holy Spirit. His desire is for you to discover how to align and unleash the promise, power, and purpose of the Holy Spirit in all areas of your life. In doing so, you will fully embrace a supernatural relationship through its almighty presence. Rev. Rodriguez joins us to talk about the most practical way you can describe the Holy Spirit to someone that won't scare them away. Listen as he shares why people struggle with supernatural filling over feeling and the major pitfalls in chasing feelings in worship.
In our journey of faith, we often encounter moments that challenge our understanding of success and spirituality. This conversation delves deep into the heart of what it means to truly encounter God in our daily lives. We're reminded of Moses' transformation, from a man of great achievements to someone who simply desired God's presence above all else. This powerful biblical narrative invites us to reflect on our own priorities. Are we chasing accomplishments and spiritual experiences, or are we seeking a genuine, intimate relationship with God? The discussion challenges us to redefine success not by our achievements, but by our ability to be fully present - with God, our families, and in every moment. It's a call to slow down, to find God in the ordinary, and to value relationships over religious performance. As we navigate our own spiritual journeys, let's consider: How can we cultivate a deeper connection with God that transcends our busy schedules and societal expectations? -- Connect with: Pastor Adam Mesa https://www.instagram.com/amesa/ Pastor Julian Lowe https://www.instagram.com/julianlowe/ Pastor Will Chung https://www.instagram.com/willkchung/ Samuel Rodriguez https://www.instagram.com/samuelmrod/ -- Don't forget to stay connected with us: Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4OvpFp9OB9_DgVdVVbXhFg Instagram https://www.instagram.com/beyond.theletter/ Tik Tok https://www.tiktok.com/discover/beyond-the-letter -- Have a question? In our spiritual journey, we often face seasons of growth and stagnation. This discussion reminds us that true spiritual vitality comes not from religious performance, but from actively engaging in discipleship. The story of Moses, who spent 40 years as a shepherd before leading the Israelites, teaches us that God's timeline often differs from our own. We're encouraged to embrace the monotony, knowing it's in these seemingly uneventful periods that God is preparing us for greater purposes. The key to overcoming spiritual apathy lies in shifting our focus outward - actively listening to others, discipling new believers, and finding ways to serve. By doing so, we not only grow in our faith but also experience the joy of making heaven bigger. Let's challenge ourselves to write a list of 100 things we're grateful for, reminding ourselves of God's faithfulness even in dry seasons -- Connect with: Pastor Adam Mesa https://www.instagram.com/amesa/Pastor Aaron Levy https://www.instagram.com/_aaronlevy/ Samuel Rodriguez https://www.instagram.com/samuelmrod/-- Don't forget to stay connected with us: Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4OvpFp9OB9_DgVdVVbXhFg Instagram https://www.instagram.com/beyond.theletter/ Tik Tok https://www.tiktok.com/discover/beyond-the-letter -- Have a question? In this thought-provoking discussion, we explore the concept of obsession and its role in achieving excellence. Just as Kobe Bryant's obsessive work ethic led to his basketball greatness, we're challenged to consider how our own obsessions might be channeled for spiritual growth and Kingdom impact. The conversation draws parallels to Jesus' relationship with His disciples, reminding us that true leadership often involves 'makership' - the hands-on process of developing others. This echoes Christ's call to 'follow me, and I will make you fishers of men' (Matthew 4:19). We're encouraged to reflect on our own leadership styles and consider how we might more effectively build up those around us, balancing our pursuit of excellence with grace and humility. Logan was joined by Pastor Rob Ketterling, Pastor Samuel Rodriguez, and Dr. Allen Tennison for this episode that was filmed live at River Valley Conference on Tuesday, July 9. They discuss how we as the church can prepare for the upcoming election and be the salt and light to this world. Even though this was filmed before the tragic events unfolded this past weekend, we felt the words shared in this episode remain true. Let's pray for the families of the victims involved and pray that these events can unite our nation more than they will divide.
Relying on the Holy Spirit propels believers through life's toughest seasons, ensuring that what heaven starts, hell cannot stop.In this engaging episode of Revealing Jesus, host Christina Perera revisits a compelling conversation with Pastor Samuel Rodriguez. Originally recorded post-pandemic, the episode revolves around Pastor Rodriguez's book, "Persevere with Power," and explores resilience and determination through faith. The conversation delves into themes like perseverance amidst trials, the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, and the eternal presence of Jesus in our lives, providing listeners with encouragement and strength.Rodriguez narrates how the journey of faith is filled with both triumphs and tribulations, using the biblical stories of Elijah and Elisha to illustrate his points. He emphasizes that pushback is often an indicator of being on the right path and that true strength comes from knowing one's identity in Christ. The episode also touches on the transformative power of shifting focus from self-centeredness to Christ-centered living, the importance of spiritual momentum, and the peace that surpasses understanding. Through a mix of personal anecdotes, scriptural references, and direct quotes, listeners are motivated to endure their own spiritual journeys with tenacity and faith."When your integrity is much more important than your influence, not to stop. Is Christian nationalism an exaggerated term? And is God overtaking Hollywood? These are just two of the big topics we hit on today's "Higher Ground with Billy Hallowell" as we welcome the Rev. Samual Rodriguez to the show. Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, is on a mission to reach the masses with biblical truth. His quest has stretched from the the pulpit to Hollywood, with the preacher producing hit films like "Flamin' Hot" and "Breakthrough."The fascinating mixture of Gospel and movie-making is something Rodriguez said first came on his radar 10 years ago when he was pastoring in church and a woman came up to the microphone and said, "Samuel, God says 'Hollywood.'""I had no inclination for Hollywood, no desire for Hollywood, to be honest," he said. "I was one of those evangelical pastors who would preach strongly against Hollywood."But Rodriguez said he soon received a call from Paramount about screening the film "Noah" to see how it might appeal to the Christian community. He agreed and informed them the movie would likely not perform well among the evangelical community — a prediction that certainly came to fruition. That, of course, was just the beginning. On today's show, we'll discuss: What led Rodriguez into Hollywood His biggest concerns about culture Whether "Christian nationalism" is an overstated threat ...and more!
