Eric leads Wendy and Shinjini through a second episode breaking down the subconscious of Ulysses in "Circe." They discuss Bloom's gender identity as the new womanly man, joy in the body, and Stephen's Telemachian interactions with various potential mentors throughout the day. Mentions: The final episode of HBO's The White Lotus, season 1, in which a character evinces Ulyssean joy in the body and defecation, although according to Shinjinii, that one scene doesn't make the show worth watching My Dad Wrote a Porno—an inspiration for tipsyturvy Ulysses that surprisingly illustrates similarly exaggerated misunderstandings of female anatomy, albeit for different reasons Libations: Eric: Ever Clever (double IPA, Bearded Iris Brewing, Nashville, TN) Wendy: Smilin' Eyes, Vol. 2 (dry Irish stout, Wild Heaven Beer, Avondale Estates, GA) Shinjini: nothing, because we recorded too late for caffeine Please submit any pressing questions to our Twitter or tipsyturvyulysses@gmail.com. In our first ever hotel room recording, we talk with Matt Miller of Bearded Iris Brewing. Matt's one of three owners of the brewery, an operation that left a huge impression with Noah (and presumably hundreds of other brewers in town) during the 2018 Craft Brewers Conference held in Nashville. The guys talk with him about starting the brewery there, it's evolution since, and also dive into branding, the importance of agility in business, and a surprising similarity between saison and IPA. We also geek out on flagships, as Bearded Iris Homestyle occupies a very similar roll in the brewery as Substance at Bissell Brothers, despite getting there a very different way. Matt also pulls out an unprecedented response to the three bay with a walk down Nostalgia Avenue that makes this an episode very much worth listening to until the end.Music: "Mountain Climb" by Jake Hill
We are back with Tasting 62! Last time we had our buddies Jason and Diego on the show we tried beers with one of our favorite adjuncts. This time we decided to hit another popular one and give our thoughts on it. We had six beers that all contained lactose, or milk sugar. Even though some were hit and miss, we had a great time as usual. Thanks for listening and Till the Last Drop! Beer Line-up: Guavaberry Puff Tart (Kettle Sour Ale with Strawberry, Guava, Milk Sugar and Mashmallow) from The Brewing Project, What's the Tea, Sis? (Fruit Tea Berliner Weisse with Milk Sugar) from Hidden Springs Ale Works and Bearded Iris Brewing, Strawberry Sidecar (Strawberry Milkshake IPA with Belma Hops) from Hidden Springs Ale Works and Eagle Park Brewing, German Chocolate Cake Drop (Imperial Milk Stout with Chocolate, Coconut, Vanilla Beans and Toasted Pecans) from Four Quarters Brewing LLC, Fried Ice Cream Stout (Imperial Stout Brewed with Vanilla Ice Cream, Chocolate and Cinnamon) from Flying Fish Brewing Co., and Work from Work (Imperial Stout Brewed with Marshmallows, Coconut, Vanilla and Lactose) from Outer Range Brewing Co and Cerebral Brewing. Featuring Difficulties In Comprehension a collaboration beer from Burial Beer Co. and Bearded Iris Brewing. 8.5 ABV 61 IBU Imperial/Double IPA
For the past three years, Bearded Iris has been bringing some exciting flavors to its home of Nashville, Tennessee, and thanks to listener Matt Milam, we get to indulge in some of their hazy and sweet offerings. We sample five beers on this show for our arbitrary review, and one beer is an “all-timer.” Also, Craig has some fresh ideas for the Fast & Furious franchise, Ryan waxes nostalgic about his Woodstock ‘94 necklace, and we hear from the Grumpy Gardener. And then Ryan explains Supreme to Craig, we dream of Teddy Grahams, and Craig relives some Krispy Kreme past. Guard your crepes. Beers Reviewed Homestyle (IPA) Mood Ring (DIPA w/ blood orange, pineapple, and mango) Moon Dust (Imperial milk stout w/ chocolate, graham cracker, vanilla, lactose and Moon Pies - collaboration with WeldWerks) V. Latte (Imperial oatmeal stout w/ cocoa nibs, vanilla bean, lactose, and espresso coffee) Fresh Baked (Imperial oatmeal stout w/ vanilla, lactose, and chocolate chip cookies)
You like meat? Then this is the episode for you! Mark, Bryan, and Evan collaborate on a meal for the meat lovers. As we crack some great beers from Bearded Owl Brewing and Bearded Iris Brewing, we get down to how we constructed a BBQ and smoke centric dinner including smoked chicken wings, pork belly burnt ends, and smoked beef ribs (wow they are huge!). We share our personal tips on BBQ and smoking, what kind of sides we love the most (the pimento cheese dip is tops), and also discuss what brews we like to pair with our offerings. Enjoy our first huge dive into the provisions side of our obsessions, cheers!!
Evan, Ryan, and Mark venture into new territory where we each take a turn with a blind tasting of beers we each brought. Let's just say, we learned a lot about our palates! Ryan also shares a very special bottle in celebration of his trip to Nashville which included a stop at Bearded Iris Brewing. Mark fills us in on Idyll Hounds Brewing Co. and his trip to Florida and Evan discusses his trip to Austin, TX, and Jester King Brewery. Mark also pulls out a french pressed beer for further confuse us! Cheers from P+P!!
This episode is all about investment properties: what are they, how did we get started with our first rentals, and some rules of thumb that will help you when it comes to purchasing your own! After our last episode on Airbnb we knew we needed to address investment property broadly, as they’re a pillar of our future financial security. We’ll have more episodes where we’ll get more specific and discuss things like return on investment (ROI), insurance, and screening tenants. But for now, we’re just covering the basics. And at the beginning of this episode we cracked open an IPA – Scatterbrain by Bearded Iris Brewing which you can find and learn all about on Untappd.
