Offense vs Oregon Starts at 1:00 This was a Fetty Wapping at the hands of Oregon. Davis Warren didn't really have negative throws but he's missing receivers and not pulling the trigger on open guys. Oregon's linebacker said in the post-game that when Orji is in the game it's pretty simple. Michigan isn't running stuff that looks like the other stuff they run, it's more of a grab bag. When was the last time they threw over the top of a safety? They don't really have packages, they just have plays. Gotta talk about The Razzles. [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Defense vs Oregon Starts at 35:15 Twitter had some harsh comments about Wink! But by the end of the game it was okay in context, especially with only one cornerback. Oregon has an extremely efficient offense that doesn't have to attack downfield so they didn't (much). You know it's a good catch by the away team when they show the replay and the big screen and the home crowd goes “woah!” Linebackers/safeties missed some tackles but it was a much better performance than against Michigan State. You have to take this defense in context with all the injuries and transfers. 3. Hot Takes, Game Theory, and Special Teams Starts at 1:01:08 Takes hotter than Jason's immune system which is working overtime to make him better. Accidental hockey segment! What is the point of video replay if you're not going to use it, Big Ten?? Is Dan Lanning scheming some of these miscues that Michigan had? Did the boos from Michigan Stadium convince Sherrone to challenge the Loveland drop? Shout out to Joe Taylor on special teams. 4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac Starts at 1:29:51 Indiana 47, Michigan State 10 9Windiana has finally happened! Kurtis Rourke is back despite the injured thumb. They just played good, solid Indiana(??) football. Michigan State finished with -36 rushing yards. Ohio State 20, Penn State 13 We've seen this game before. A lot of weird things happened, though. There's always time on the clock for Frames Janklin. What was that goal line decision making? Minnesota 25, Illinois 17 Luke Altmyer didn't put the ball into danger but didn't add much. This was like the Michigan Illinois game but not stupid. Washington 26, USC 21 USC throws three interceptions, they're 0-3 when they throw more than 50 times. Are they even going to make a bowl game? UCLA 27, Nebraska 20 This came out of nowhere. Here comes the annual impending collapse of Nebraska. Iowa 42, Wisconsin 10 Before the season started, we thought Michigan was good Iowa. Turns out Iowa is good Michigan. Wisconsin had only a 5% havoc rate and their linebacker factory is dismantled. Northwestern 26, Purdue 20 Purdue gave up 302 passing yards to Northwestern! In this episode, Zach Shaw and Steve Lorenz recap the Michigan football team's 21-7 loss to Illinois. They look at what went wrong for the Wolverines, and what it means moving forward now that Michigan is 4-3 on the season. They open with a long look at what went wrong offensively. They look at the Wolverines' inability to convert on productive dives, their continued struggles at quarterback, some hindsight concerns about Michigan's offensive coaching staff and other topics about the offense after Michigan posted its lowest point total since 2014. In the second half of the episode, they look at a defense that largely did its job on Saturday, a special teams unit that has increasingly become a liability for the Wolverines, and where Michigan goes from here, facing a sincere reality of a 6-6 or even 5-7 season. After going 14-2 against the spread with his picks over the last 3 weeks, FOX Sports' lead College Football analyst Joel Klatt is back to make his predictions for the biggest games of the weekend. He begins by discussing the game he will be calling on Big Noon Saturday on FOX as 5-1 Nebraska takes on undefeated and 16th ranked Indiana. He then makes his picks for two huge SEC matchups as #5 Georgia goes on the road for another Top-5 clash, this time against #1 Texas. He then breaks down the interesting matchups on both sides of the ball when #7 Alabama takes on #11 Tennessee. He discusses how #24 Michigan will look following their off week as they break in their new QB on the road against #22 Illinois. Klatt also makes his picks as #8 LSU heads to Arkansas in what could be a trap game for the Tigers and #6 Miami faces a tough road challenge at Louisville. He wraps up the picks by discussing the FOX College Football Friday matchup between #2 Oregon and Purdue and points out why that matchup could be closer than people think. AP correspondent Jackie Quinn reports on cities hoping to fight back against deadly gun violence which ruined several summer gatherings this past weekend.
Hey guys! Welcome back! Zach and I decided to make Friday just a bit better! Check out our live reactions from the Michigan/Illinois Game tonight!
Welcome back to KickStart! In this Week 12 episode, we're diving into some intriguing matchups and potential trap games. First up, Michigan faces Maryland at noon on FOX. Is this a trap game for the Wolverines, reminiscent of last year's Michigan/Illinois showdown? Meanwhile, Maryland is riding high after a game-winning performance against Nebraska. At noon on BTN, we have a battle for the bottom as MSU takes on IU. With both teams coming off losses to OSU and Illinois, will this be a game worth watching? Next, Purdue clashes with Northwestern on BTN at noon. Northwestern and four other teams are technically still in the West race, and Purdue is looking to build on its massive win against Minnesota. Rutgers visits Penn State at noon on FS1, with Rutgers seeming to slide since September. Can Penn State capitalize on the momentum from firing Mike Yurcich? Then, at 3:30 pm on FS1, Illinois faces Iowa. A win for Iowa locks up the Big Ten West, but Illinois is making a switch at quarterback, going back to Luke Altmyer. At 4 pm on BTN, Minnesota takes on Ohio State. Is this a potential trap game for the Buckeyes, or will they continue their dominance after Purdue dismantled the Gophers? We'll keep an eye on key players like Cade Stover and Emeka Egbuka. Finally, the nightcap at 7:30 pm on NBC features Nebraska against Wisconsin. With both teams on losing streaks, is there any reason to tune in after the Iowa game? Join us for analysis, predictions, and all the excitement in this Week 12 KickStart!

Go home, college football, you're drunk. That's the best way to describe last weekend. What was once termed Sun Belt Saturday in the SEC (the weekend before rivalry week) was an instant classic featuring multiple great contests both in the league and outside of it (TCU-Baylor, South Carolina-Tennessee, Michigan-Illinois). Presented by Blue Delta Jeans Co., Mike Morgan (ESPN) and JC Shurburtt (247Sports), along with producer Michael Haney break it all down. In this episode, 247Sports' Zach Shaw and Steve Lorenz break down the Michigan football team's 19-17 win over Illinois, looking at what went well for the Wolverines, what didn't and what it all means for Michigan's upcoming matchup against No. 2 Ohio State. The open with a look at Michigan's offense, and what went awry for the Wolverines so they only scored 19 points in the game. They discuss Michigan's struggling pass game, some signs of optimism and what's realistic to expect from the passing attack moving forward. They also look at the Wolverines' injury riddled run game, some play-calling surprises and other thoughts on where the offense can improve. In the second half of the episode, they turn their attention to the defense. They debate Illinois' third-quarter rushing success, Michigan's lack of a pass rush and other factors that could play a role in next week's bout with the Buckeyes. They also pivot the conversation into an early preview of Ohio State's offense. They close with a discussion about the intangible value of a “gritty” win for the Wolverines, and debate if it can spark momentum heading into the team's most important week of the season. In this episode, 247Sports' Zach Shaw and Steve Lorenz preview the Michigan football team's upcoming game against Illinois, looking at the keys for the Wolverines on both sides of the ball and making their predictions for the matchup. They begin with a long look at what Michigan's offense must show in the game. They look at some key ways the Wolverines can get after the Fighting Illini's statistically sound pass coverage, key plays Michigan can implement more to meet the matchup, and what their recommended approach would be to the Wolverines' rushing attack. They do some offensive prop bets, and debate Michigan's ideal run-pass dynamic Saturday. In the second half of the episode, they look at the other side of the ball. They discuss Illinois' most successful offensive players, keys to stopping them and other things we want to see from the Wolverines Saturday. They close with more prop bets, as well as their final thoughts and score predictions for the game. Carson Wentz decision week is here! The pros and cons of the Colts costly quarterback. Indiana will play Michigan Thursday at 11:30a in a bad matchup. With a win, they would take on Illinois - their worst possible match up! Winning Time on HBO is worth it for the Jerry West depiction as the most miserable and profane coach you have ever seen. It ain't "The Last Dance!" Pacers lose to Washington - still fifth worst with 16 games left. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-kent-sterling-show/support

Working without Steve Lorenz due to a scheduling conflict, Zach Shaw breaks down what he expects to see in Saturday’s matchup between Michigan and Illinois. Threading the podcast’s traditional over-under game throughout his preview, Shaw looks at Shea Patterson’s situation, and why the senior quarterback needs more than just a get-well game. He also looks at Michigan’s running backs, how the Wolverines can make progress and more on the Fighting Illini’s woeful defense. He also digs into Michigan’s potential to work in backup players such as Joe Milton and Hassan Haskins, and other reasons that a fast start can be beneficial. On the defensive side of the ball, Shaw explains why he expects the Wolverines’ defensive line to continue to improve, why stopping Illinois’ serviceable run game is important and what to look for from the Fighting Illini’s pass game with backup quarterback Matt Robinson likely to start. Shaw closes with things Michigan fans should watch in the game, and offers his prediction for the matchup. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

After receiving strong reviews from last week’s joint podcast, we once again invite an opposing beat writer to join us, as Michigan beat writer Zach Shaw and Illinois beat writer Jeremy Werner discuss the key storylines for both teams heading into this week’s game.Acknowledging that the game itself is rather predictable and that neither team is using the game as a measuring stick, they instead begin by breaking down how each team has fared to expectations. Werner notes that Illinois’ improved team talent has yet to translate to better on-field success, and that that falls on coaching, while Shaw opines the weird spot that Michigan is in with a clearly improved product, yet not full satisfaction with Jim Harbaugh and the team's 4-1 record. The go back and forth, looking at each team's offenses so far, what the primary struggles have been and the key playmakers who might be in or out of the game. They also break down defenses. Finally, they close with the discussion of what can be gained or lost from Saturday’s game beyond the result for both teams, and how the matchup can set up the rest of the season. The Michigan Wolverines had an impressive victory over Iowa last week. The Wolverines have also chased a B1G head coach, Chris Ash. The question is... will they chase another one? I brought in BTN Student Broadcaster Anthony Pasquale to answer that question as well as how Michigan-Illinois will go. Be sure to listen to it!
