Phil & Jake are joined by friend-of-the-pod Micah to rank the reality TV show Hoarders, the craft beer style known as IPA, and the activity of backpacking on the List of Every Damn Thing. If you have something to add to the list, email it to list@everydamnthing.net (or get at us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook).SHOW NOTES: The Collyer Brothers were famous hoarders who died in the 1940s. There was a musical made about their lives. Aida is a Verdi opera, first performed in Cairo in 1871. Of course Phil pronounced it wrong. What did you expect?! During the episode Jake drinks a Picnic Lightning by Brouwerij West. It's a top-notch Hazy IPA. Shop ‘n' Wash was a laundromat & convenience store in Ukiah, CA. It's name is pure description, zero wordplay. Phil feels that laundromats should have some wordplay in their names eg "Get the Funk Out" "Escamoles" or "Mexican caviar" are ant eggs eaten as food by adventurous eaters like Micah. Phil referred to Shackleton's Endurance as Sir Edmund Hillary going to the North Pole in the Perseverance. The wreck of Endurance was just discovered in March of 2022! "The Ride" by David Allan Coe is a 1983 country song about an encounter with the ghost of Hank Williams while hitchhiking from Montgomery, AL to Nashville, TN. Phil mentions Plagues and Pleasures on The Salton Sea, a documentary about the area. It's a very strange place both culturally and geologically. Johnny Christ of Avenged Sevenfold & I have a conversation about how he coped with 2020, his 1st brews, the soundtrack of his youth, his 1st shows, the Drinks with Johnny podcast, dream guests, an Avenged Sevenfold Brew & his hangover cure. Throughout this interview, Johnny was drinking Brouwerij West's "Bounce" the 7.1% ABV West Coast IPA that was hopped with Citra, Mosaic & Centennial Hops while I enjoyed 5e Baron's "Cypress". This West Coast IPA poured out with a glorious dark yellow veil, smashed citrus & fresh cut grass on the nose, slapped a piney slightly dank finish & was an absolute crusher! It clocked in with a 6.5% ABV. This is a Heavy Montreal presents Vox&Hops episode! Heavy Montreal is Montreal's premier metal promoter. In our first ever hotel room recording, we talk with Matt Miller of Bearded Iris Brewing. Matt's one of three owners of the brewery, an operation that left a huge impression with Noah (and presumably hundreds of other brewers in town) during the 2018 Craft Brewers Conference held in Nashville. The guys talk with him about starting the brewery there, it's evolution since, and also dive into branding, the importance of agility in business, and a surprising similarity between saison and IPA. We also geek out on flagships, as Bearded Iris Homestyle occupies a very similar roll in the brewery as Substance at Bissell Brothers, despite getting there a very different way. Matt also pulls out an unprecedented response to the three bay with a walk down Nostalgia Avenue that makes this an episode very much worth listening to until the end.Music: "Mountain Climb" by Jake Hill

GRAINING. IN. IS. BACK. The guys, back from the City of Angels, are recording on a new computer, and waste no time explaining both why that is and why an episode hasn't come out for three weeks...*spoiler alert*, it's because Noah left his laptop and the trifecta of interviews recorded on them at LAX security. The guys discuss how they each dealt with not having the weekly ritual of the podcast in their lives, share some experiences from the the trip itself (one of which involves two types of "Birds" and feces), and do a little teasing on the episodes that soon be retrieved. How sweet it is to be back in the groove of things.Music: "Mountain Climb" by Jake Hill

In this episode, we're cracking open Hotel Zebra by Brouwerij West and Pizza Port Brewing - an 8.2% West Coast Double IPA that is exactly what you would expect from a Pizza Port inspired beer. Bitter, dank and sticky, but with a nice tropical backbone from the bouquet of hops. Definitely a nice break from the IPAs we've been drinking lately, and LOVED the can sticker art on this one.

We are back with Episode 31! This episode is a little different in that we have having a variety of breweries to showcase. Matt went on a trip to Los Angeles and we decided to do a show with beer he brought back. These aren't necessarily LA based breweries, but they were all purchased in the City of Angels. Matt talks about his trip, we were forced to take a prolonged break in between and we somehow ended up at Evan's house. Beer Line-up: Hopfentea (Berliner) by Perennial Artisan Ales, Pine Berry (Milkshake-Style DIPA) by Mumford Brewing, Vanitas (DDH IPA) by Omipollo, Supercollider (IPA) by Brouwerij West, and Move In Silence (DDH DIPA) by Monkish Brewing Co. This week's featured artist is Matt "Varnish" Taylor, the Grammy Award winning founder of Varnish Studio. We came to learn of Matt through his work with Brouwerij West, but his portfolio is rocking and vast including the likes of Trey Anastasio (Phish), Red Hot Chili Peppers (won his Grammy for Stadium Arcadium album art), The Bruery, Lost Abbey, Coda Brewing, World of Warcraft, Paris Hilton, Roadhouse Brewing, Flying Machine Brewing and honestly so much more including Tim Burton to name drop a few. Matt is a proud father whose story shows that through hard work and passion you can do great things. He is a natural story teller and some of them are great insights and behind the scenes that mix dedication, luck, life and passion to create a great story of a designer who loves his family and his job and is following his path to bring all of these things to life. His crazy wearing a ton of hats photo had me wondering what was to come of this episode but it's perfect for our 90th. Great insight for those who are starting out as well as those of you who are in the thick of it. Inspiration is all over this one. Have a great weekend. Enjoy this one and thank you all for being a part of this journey together. Look for the announcement soon on our 9th Season of artists and don't be a stranger.
Grab your saddlebags and be sure to get a sitter for the twins, because we’re headed back to the fresh mountain air of Haunted Colorado - Part Two: Coloharder. The boys bro-down in sailor-ville this week: Southern California’s import/export mega port, San Pedro, to visit recently exploded (haven’t we all been there before!?) Brouwerij West! Formerly only known for sours and wild ales, this quirky, yet consistent brew house is riding a new wave of popularity thanks to excellent local distribution and dipping both feet into the world of Hazy/New England IPAs. What sets them apart is equally obsessing over their malts as well as their hops, and an amazing set of flavor shapes thanks to running these cloudy bad boys through a centrifuge so they’re all killer and no filler. What did Steve & Joey think of their massive former military warehouse brewery space and subsequent suds like Tahiti Substation, Dig My Earth, FA Really, Picnic Lightining, Super Collider, Popfuji, and a smattering of stouts and sours? You’ll have to guzzle down with us to find out, sailors! Yankers awaaaaaay!
