Op donderdag 3 april is het nieuwe album van punkband Zoekhetuitman uitgekomen, op vrijdag hadden ze hun releaseparty in Bibelot, Zoekhetuitman heeft in het laatste jaar veel belangstelling vanuit de media gekregen."Het was een leuke releaseparty, het was druk dus dat is een goed teken denk ik", zo zegt zanger en songwriter van de band Jullian Goud. "De reacties op onze muziek waren ook erg positief dus dat is natuurlijk altijd leuk om te horen", zegt bassist Thomas Markesteijn.In 2023 won de band de grote prijs van Dordt, daarna waren ze te gast bij het radioprogramma Spijkers met Koppen. "Ik denk dat onze kracht toch gewoon is dat we origineel zijn", meent drummer Patton van Loon.Op hun nieuwste album schopt Zoekhetuitman tegen van alles aan, zo moet onder meer de PVV, Dick Schoof en heel politiek Den Haag het ontgelden. "Dat is iets wat altijd wel speelt, in ieder geval bij mij, de samenleving zit gewoon heel onrechtvaardig in elkaar", laat Patton zich uti als een revolutionist. "Maar dit is niet het hoofddoel, we maken vooral muziek omdat we het toch heel erg leuk vinden", zo vult Jullian aan.Na het winnen van de grote prijs van Dordt kreeg Zoekhetuitman ook meer stuidotijd. "Op die manier hadden we ook meer tijd en middelen om meer eigen liedjes te schrijven, nadat we hadden besloten om een album te gaan maken kampten we nog met financiële problemen. We starten een crowdfunding en toen we het benodigde bedrag hadden opgehaald zijn we liedjes gaan maken waar uiteindelijk een album uit voortkwam". zo legt Jullian oud.Over die crowdfundingsactie zijn de bandleden nog steeds enthousiast. "We vonden het echt bijzonder om te zien dat zoveel mensen doneerden, ook mensen die we helemaal niet kenden en die niks met onze band hadden eerst, dan dachten we echt: doe iets leuks met het geld", lachen ze voluit.Het ontstaan van de band is eigenlijk ook geheel toevallig gebeurd. "Voor we Zoekhetuitman begonnen heb ik wel eens in een oefenruimte gezeten met Jullian, toen we elkaar weer een keer zagen hebben we afgesproken om verder te gaan en zijn we de dag erop gaan spelen en hebben we Thomas en Ceder (bassist) erbij gevraagd en zo is de band eigenlijk gevormd", zegt Patton. "Ik werd gebeld door Ceder die vroeg of ik mee ging repeteren die dag erna, toen ik ja zei wist ik eigenlijk nog niet waar ik in terecht zou komen. Destijds zat ik ook nog in een Popcentrale-bandje en daar gebeurt eigenlijk hetzelfde, je gaat gewoon met een random groepje optreden zoals hier ook het geval was, het is heel goed bevallen kan ik wel zeggen, zegt Thomas."Patton is gewoon een heel goede drummer en dat sier punk vooral heel erg", zegt Jullian over de keuze voor punkmuziek. "De teksten helpen hieraan ook wel heel erg mee, zoals eerder gezegd willen we graag laten horen wat we van de maatschappij vinden en wat we vinden dat beter kan, daarvoor is deze muziek ideaal", zegt Patton erover.Wil je onze media volgen? Victor Brandt is een bekende naam in de Dordtse muziekscene. Al 20 jaar is hij actief als drummer. Na jarenlang de wereld rond te hebben getoerd met Death Letters, richt hij zich nu op een nieuw project. Op 22 maart wordt Brandstof in Bibelot omgetoverd tot club Sleepover, een verwijzing naar de naam van zijn nieuwe band: Vera & The Sleepover Club.Van Death Letters tot Vera & The Sleepover ClubVictor begon zijn muzikale avontuur al op jonge leeftijd. "Ik was 11 toen ik met Death Letters begon. Vanaf dat moment ben ik eigenlijk continu met muziek bezig geweest," vertelt hij.De groei van Death Letters is volgens hem mede te danken aan radio-dj Eric Corton. "Hij was fan van ons en heeft ons enorm gesupport. Hij was er zelfs bij toen we onze eerste cd uitbrachten," zegt Victor trots.Producer, muzikant en acteurNaast drummer is Victor ook producer. "Ik werk nu in een studio en neem muziek op voor artiesten. Dat is echt megavet! En ik heb er veel mensen door leren kennen."Ook startte hij 8 jaar geleden een karaoke-band. "Dat is gewoon een fijne uitlaatklep. Mensen mogen vijf minuten een echte rockster zijn in hun eigen band."Buiten de muziek is Victor ook actief als acteur. Hij speelt rollen bij de politie- en ME-opleiding, maar ook bij Walibi Fright Nights en Bright Nights (de wintervariant van Fright Nights). Toch blijft muziek zijn grote liefde: "Als ik moet kiezen, blijf ik de rest van mijn leven muziek maken. Dat vind ik gewoon het vetst! Maar je wordt er niet rijk van."Dordtse muziekscene en talentontwikkelingVictor is positief over de muziekscene in Dordrecht. "Ik denk dat we elkaar versterken." Hij helpt talentvolle bands groeien via een stroomversnellingstraject, waarin hij bands opleidt tot volwaardige acts.De opkomst van Vera & The Sleepover ClubTegenwoordig is Victor drummer bij Vera & The Sleepover Club. De band heeft al een langere geschiedenis, maar sinds enkele maanden zijn ze weer compleet. "In mijn tijd als producer leerde ik Vera kennen. Nevyn kende ik al. Na meerdere ontmoetingen besloten we samen een band te vormen."De eerste drie jaar gebeurde er veel. Zo speelden ze in de AFAS Live als voorprogramma van de Dave Matthews Band, stonden ze op Big Rivers en waren ze meerdere keren te horen op KINK FM.Nu brengt de band een nieuwe plaat uit: "What An Odd Thing To Say Out Loud". De releaseparty vindt plaats op 22 maart in Brandstof (Bibelot). Tijdens deze avond draaien de bandleden muziek en spelen ze alle nummers van de nieuwe plaat.Wil je onze media volgen? Today we're speaking of all things sweet in life, with French trained pastry chef, and Group Head Pastry Chef at Black Star Pastry, Arnaud Vodounou. Arnaud describes how his six year long training in Paris, covering all the basics of pastry making, gave him the foundation to be confident, flexible and creative in his craft today. A kind of intensive training that is rarely seen today.Despite his extensive training, Arnaud hesitated when offered his first opportunity as head pastry chef, initially turning it down from fear of letting others down. (A type of humility that is arguably also missing today.) Jo and Arnaud discuss how others' confidence in our potential can push us into places we didn't think possible for ourselves. Now a confident expert in his field, Arnaud speaks to the importance of continuing to look for creative inspiration for innovation, not just in coming up with new products but in improving the technical processes that form the foundation of pastry making. He describes this kind of creativity as the ability to improve with modern techniques but without a quality compromise. Chefs around the world are doing this and sharing new methods with each other today, which Arnaud says is a critical part of innovation for a traditional field that benefits from open collaboration. Having worked as pastry chef - including at 2 Michelin star Parisian restaurant Taillevent - across France, Switzerland, Vietnam and Australia, Arnaud also speaks to diversity of experience he has lived, alongside personal learnings of adapting his approach as a leader. Dat metal oneindig veel meer is dan muziek alleen, bewijst David Brinks. De mede-oprichter van de Metal Business Club laat via zes platen horen hoe harde gitaren ook kunnen leiden tot langdurige vriendschappen, nieuw werk, goede doelen, diy-festivals, en hoe dat alle clichés over de metalscene ontkracht. Een business club. Waar denk je dan aan? Mijn associaties: mannen in overhemden met te fleurige designs, afgetopt met opzichtige Hugo de Jonge-Mascolori-schoenen. Vrouwen die direct uit hun jaarclub weggelopen lijken en op weg zijn naar het regionale VVD-congres. Bitterballen en bier. Knullige presentaties over nog meer hyperkapitalisme, bedekt onder een dikke laag green- en ecowashing. En visitekaartjes. Véél visitekaartjes. David Brinks vertelt in dit uur van Dood & Verderf dat al die associaties ook anders kunnen. Hij is namelijk - als zelfstandig ondernemer én metalhead - een van de oprichters van de Metal Business Club. David laat aan de hand van zes platen horen hoe metal en een community naadloos bij elkaar passen, en waarom gitaren soms het ideale smeermiddel zijn voor de realisatie van een leukere en betere wereld. Playlist 1. Merauder – Master Killer (Master Killer, 1995) Als je het hebt over communities, dan kun je niet om de New York Hardcore scene heen. Die hebben met een relatief kleine groep gewoon de hele wereld veroverd. Bands als Merauder, Sick Of It All en All Out War hebben bovendien de fans van hardcore en metal samengebracht. En zanger Jorge Rosado heeft zijn eigen community opgestart: Los Babas. Daarnaast is Master Killer de intro van onze podcast Tales From The Eastside. Rondom die podcast hebben we al jaren een community in de vorm van een appgroep met zo'n 80 mensen. Sommige mensen kenden elkaar al, maar hebben elkaar al jaren niet meer gesproken. Andere mensen kenden nog vrijwel niemand uit de groep, maar hebben nu een nieuwe vriendengroep erbij om samen mee naar shows te gaan. Zo verbinden we mensen. 2. Testament – More Than Meets The Eye (The Formation of Damnation, 2008) Er bestaat een stereotiep beeld van liefhebbers van metal, punk en hardcore. Maar er zit veel meer achter. Dat stereotype is iets waar ik persoonlijk al mijn hele leven tegen aan het strijden ben. We houden dan wel van teringherrie, maar we kunnen en regelen ook echt dingen. Dat bewijzen we keer op keer. Zoals het benefiet Thrash Of The Titans in 2001, voor zanger Chuck Billy van Testament en zanger/gitarist Chuck Schuldiner van Death. Beide metalhelden leden aan kanker en dus organiseerde de Bay Area thrashscene een benefiet voor ze met een geweldige line-up, inclusief bands die al lang gestopt waren. Die vorm van brotherhood/sisterhood geeft me elke keer weer kippenvel. 3. Hatebreed – Live For This (The Rise of Brutality, 2003) Noem het ‘motivational poster hardcore' als je wilt, maar het werkt verdomme wel! Hatebreed maakt inspirerende muziek, waardoor je dingen wilt gaan doen en niet alleen maar consument wilt zijn. Jamey Jasta is ook echt een verbinder van mensen. Met zijn band, zijn label Stillborn Records, zijn festival Milwauke Metalfest, zijn periode als presentator van MTV Headbanger's Ball en zijn podcast The Jasta Show, waar hij er al meer dan 700 van gemaakt heeft. Dus hij maakt de titel ‘Live For This' zeker waar. 4. No Guts No Glory benefietcover (2021) Ik wil Stichting No Guts No Glory graag onder de aandacht brengen. Zij maken bijzondere muzikale wensen mogelijk voor mensen met kanker en hun mantelzorgers. Zonder subsidies, compleet gefinancierd door het eigen netwerk, dat nog steeds flink groeit. De stichting is genoemd naar het gelijknamige nummer van Bolt Thrower. Oprichter Sander Gerritsen, die niet lang na de oprichting zelf overleed aan kanker, was groot fan. Zijn zus Ellen zet de stichting voort. Om geld in te zamelen organiseren mensen allerlei acties.  Eén daarvan is een cover van Bolt Thrower, gemaakt in coronatijd, waaraan allerlei bekende Nederlanders hun medewerking hebben verleend. De kracht van een netwerk. Of eigenlijk ‘ons netwerk', want drie van de oprichters van de Metal Business Club zijn vrijwilliger voor NGNG en hebben mensen gemobiliseerd die je in deze video ziet. 5. Darkest Hour – Knife In The Safe Room (Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora, 2017) Het openingsnummer van Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora, een plaat die ik mede gecrowdfund heb voor de band. Darkest Hour is een band die heel goed weet hoe ze hun achterban moeten mobiliseren. De echte DIY-spirit: gewoon zonder label je ding kunnen doen, omdat je zelf alles betaalt met dank aan je fans die je het bedrag voorschieten. 6. No Turning Back – Together (No Time To Waste, 2017) Er zijn veel hardcorebands die nummers hebben over ‘unity', dus pak ik maar een Nederlandse band, waar ik zelf enorm veel respect voor heb. Martijn, de zanger van No Turning Back, organiseert elk jaar Revolution Calling festival, hij boekt bands en kent werkelijk iedereen in de scene. Maar ik kom hem ook gewoon tegen bij Watain. Geen oogkleppen, maar samenwerken. Dat is voor mij hardcore. Zwaar Aanbevolen Boundaries - Turning Hate Into Rage (Death is little more, 2024) “Metal Business Club? Nog nooit van gehoord.” Dat was de eerste reactie van Maarten Ondersteijn, hoofdredacteur van het online magazine Zware Metalen. David Brinks zegt hem daarentegen weer wel wat, aangezien hij een concullega is van het Belgische Rock Tribune. “Altijd een lastige opgave om een mede-redacteur een tip te geven, maar ik denk dat de onderstaande nog weleens in de smaak zou kunnen vallen.” Maarten verwijst daarmee naar Boundaries met Turning Hate Into Rage. “Afgelopen vrijdag zag ik ze nog in Bibelot, en live zijn ze minstens zo sterk als op plaat.” In zijn recensie van de plaat Death Is Little More omschrijft hij de muziek als ‘positief chaotisch, lomp, brutaal, overweldigend en gruwelijk verslavend'. “Ben je liefhebber van metalcore vol met overtuigende breakdowns en ken je deze band nog niet? Check dit! Reken maar dat we dit gezelschap de komende jaren hoger en op meer affiches zullen zien verschijnen." Lees de recensie op Zware Metalen

Susan’s personal journey into the Ayurvedic lifestyle began when she came across the Ayurvedic cleansing technique of panchakarma. What began as the release of damaging toxins and personal difficulties eventually grew into an impassioned vocation. She has since studied with the best teachers of Ayurveda, both in the US and in India. Susan knows exactly how challenging it can be to come to Ayurveda as a beginner and has dedicated her life to sharing the fruits of her studies with students all over the world.   Susan grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. After attending the University of Missouri and the University of Maryland (1985) she moved to Israel where she lived in Tel Aviv and worked as a journalist for the Jerusalem Post and as a unit publicist on TV shows and films made in Israel. Susan also worked for Israel Cable TV during its infancy and helped to establish the film channel.   In 1992 Susan moved to Washington DC to work at the Israeli Embassy in the media and press office. For the next three years she worked with the government promoting the Oslo Peace Accords, witnessing the signing of peace treaties with Palestine and Jordon, with both the Bush and Clinton administrations.   After moving back to the US for good in 1997 Susan found real joy in working at two bookstores, Bibelot and Barnes & Noble, organizing events, community groups, book clubs and workshops. After that wonderful experience, Susan worked in PR and marketing while planning to open her own bookstore. After a visit to The Bodhi Tree in West Hollywood (Los Angeles) she decided to open a new age bookstore based on their model. Susan opened Breathe Books in Baltimore in 2004. Since she became a vegetarian at 16 and had been practicing yoga and meditation in her late 20s Susan wanted to promote this lifestyle to others. She ran her bookstore for 10 years, eventually adding a vegetarian cafe, teaching and consulting on Ayurveda, hosting authors from around the globe, and leading weekly meditation classes. In 2014 Susan decided to close Breathe Books and concertante fully on her Ayurvedic practice.   Continuing her love for world-travel, Susan leads meditation, yoga and Ayurveda tours to sacred sites around the world.   Susan lives with her husband Larry (who she met in her bookstore in 2008) and their three dogs, Ella, Shadow and Joonie, in the woods in Reisterstown, Maryland just outside of Baltimore City.
