The Cock Tales Crew (Byron, Jullian, & Antwon) is back with OutPour – real talk, unfiltered conversations, and plenty of laughs.
1: I get why Caleb took the position he did to cut off incoming balls to Gressel but when those balls find Jullian, good grief. Gressel only needs half a yard to cross in a quality ball and Caleb gave him more than that. 2: We attempted to apply pressures in Columbus' half we just didn't win the ball off of them nearly enough and the few times we did, we didn't launch into a meaningful attack after. 3: It's a little jarring to play a team like Columbus only a few days after a team like Philly and it showed. Columbus passed at 91% and won 8 corners in the first half alone. That should tell you everything you need to know about how effective we let them be. They kept the ball on the ground and moved it around effectively and we didn't do enough to break up their rhythm. Credit to our defense for a few good moments and some key tackles because without those, it's 2-0 Columbus at the half. 4: Even with Miles scoring the winner and even with the goal we conceded I think MOTM goes to Guz for me. Maybe his distribution wasn't the best at times, but his gloves kept us in this one. 5: This was billed as a an exciting match where both teams wanted the ball. Well it was exciting (and frustrating in equal measure) but I only saw one team that wanted the ball. Try as we might, we just could not get the ball off their feet. I give Columbus a lot of credit. They did not change their approach one bit at any time. Even kicking off directly after our equalizer, they were quick, aggressive and progressed the ball quickly on the ground. They basically played the type of game we like to play. They looked a contender for MLS cup and we looked like maybe we'll get out of the first round.
Lee Cockerell (former Executive Vice President of Operations for Walt Disney World) shares on today's podcast that he thought he needed to lead with just discipline. After an employee's health experience, he realized that EMPATHY needed to be included and that there was a kinder way to lead and manage. Listen to his remarkable rise from an Oklahoma farmer to an Executive Vice President leading 40,000 Cast Members, 20 resort hotels, 4 theme parks, and 2 water parks with Disney. We discuss very humble beginnings. Not reading a newspaper until the age of 20, lacking confidence, and lacking direction. Hospitality not only provided a career, but a lifestyle and a future. Lee now shares his leadership strategy of focusing on hiring, training, and treating well the RIGHT PEOPLE for business success. So grateful for his advice to me and to all the listeners that will hear his message. More about Lee Cockerell: Lee attended Oklahoma State University for two years before joining in the United States Army. Lee's career includes eight years with Hilton Hotels, seventeen years with Marriott International and sixteen years with The Walt Disney Company. Lee Joined Disney in 1990 as Director of Food and Beverage, Quality Assurance and Vice President of the hotel division for Disneyland Paris. In 1993 Lee became the Senior Vice President of the hotel division at the Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida and in 1997 was promoted to Executive Vice President of Operations for all of Walt Disney World Operations, serving in that position for ten years before retiring to start his own business, Lee Cockerell, LLC., a training and development company. About Dan Cockerell Dan was born in Chicago in 1969. His father was an executive with the Marriott Corporation and as a result, Dan moved frequently across the United States while growing up. He attended Boston University, graduating in 1991, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. An avid rugby player, he was selected for the 1990 and 1991 USA Collegiate All-American Rugby team, and was Captain for the 1991 team. Dan's first experience working for Disney was as a participant in the Walt Disney World College Program in Orlando in the summer of 1989, when he worked as a front desk host at the Contemporary Resort. Upon graduation from Boston University in 1991, Dan moved to Florida and participated in the Disneyland Paris Management Trainee Program. In January of 1992, three months before the opening of Disneyland Paris, he was transferred to France, where he remained for five years in various management roles. He and his wife Valerie, who was also with Disneyland Paris, were married in France and spent five years there before moving back to Orlando in 1997. Since that time they have raised three children – Jullian, Margot and Tristan. Dan has held various management and executive operations roles at the Walt Disney World Resort, both in the theme parks and resort hotels, and was the sixth executive to hold the position of Vice President, Magic Kingdom since the park opened in 1971. He earned his MBA in 2001 at the Crummer School of Business at Rollins College.
