Andy Whale and Bolt Thrower defined a genre.  Even in 2025 those names are said with reverence and massive respect.  There is only one Bolt Thrower, and only one Andy Whale.  However, Andy's career did not stop with Bolt Thrower as he also played with Memoriam, Darkened, and DeathCollector.  Now, Andy is creating electronic music, drumming for the fun of it, and enjoying family time.  Join us as we discuss touring, the metal scene in Birmingham, The Grindcrusher tour, and Andy's love/hate relationship with the drums.@mynameiswhale1964 @deathcollector_official @memoriamuk @darkeneddeathmetal --------------------Hosts:  Jason Walton and Nick Wusz."I Hate Music" theme by Marius Sjoli, cover image by Jori Apedaile, intro video by Fredz.Produced by Jason Walton for Earth in Sound Productions.--------------------Support the podcast by becoming a Patreon member here: IHM PatreonFollow us on socials, donate to support the podcast, listen to our playlist on Spotify, and visit us online: I Hate Music LinktreeEmail and listener suggestions to: hate.pod.music@gmail.com#ihatemusicpodcast- Part of the Distorted Paths Podcast Network -

Greetings, metalheads! Welcome back to Metal Massacre, the place where Lucian, the weirdo with a beardo, and Dustin, the tsar of gnar, dive into the chaos and creativity of the metal universe. In this episode, we're flying solo, bringing you a laid-back yet electrifying discussion on our favorite metal album covers of all time. From the iconic to the obscure, we're peeling back the layers of artistry that define the metal genre. Join us as we explore the visual masterpieces that have not only captivated us but have also left an indelible mark on the metal community. From the medieval chaos of Bolt Thrower's "Warmaster" to the vibrant insanity of Necrogoblikon's "The Fundamental Slimes and Humours," we're celebrating the album covers that have shaped our musical tastes and inspired countless artists. Lucian and Dustin share personal stories and insights about these covers, including Lucian's nostalgic connection to Dethklok's debut album and Dustin's love for the iconic System of a Down's "Toxicity." We also delve into the unique artistry of The Used's "Lies for the Liars" and the trippy visuals of Tool's "Lateralus." But that's not all! Dustin gives a brief review of Pale Face Swiss's new album "Cursed," highlighting its aggressive and unique sound that blends elements of Slipknot and Acacia Strain. If you're looking for something to fuel your workout or just need to release some pent-up energy, this album might just be what you need.

Terminators, thank you for your patience. After a couple weeks' delay, for which TDMG has a good excuse (two fucking hurricanes) and I have none, we're back! Or rather, I'm back, with a big interview. A couple weeks ago, I had the pleasure of speaking with Chris Naughton, frontman of Winterfylleth and pioneer of modern pagan black metal. I asked him to draw up a list of five quintessentially English bands/scenes that fed into the Winterfylleth sound. These serve as touchstones for a conversation ranging from details of guitar technique to lyrical source texts to obscure distro history. On the show, we've often characterized Winterfylleth as a kind of tricky folk-cultural transplant project, “English Slavblack.” Talking with Chris led me to revise this portrait: Much of what I attributed to the influence of Ukrainian bands has older roots in Chris's native soil, in styles I hadn't necessarily expected. As for the question of English black metal, Chris has a thoughtful answer, a robust rebuttal to the old saw that “there's no such thing as 'English' culture." 00:00 - Intro 3:08 - Peaceville death-doom, songwriting for Winterfylleth 33:22 - Bolt Thrower, Carcass 52:45 - Is there an “English Sound” in black metal? The NYC group Zelenaya mixes traditional folk music with heavy metal in ways that are both surprising and convincing. Haunting three part harmonies, doom-laden guitars, pummeling drums – somehow it all comes together in Zelenaya's debut album, called simply, Folk Songs. The band has both confused and carried away audiences at campground diasporic folk festivals and at death metal shows; serving up music for those who are into Ukrainian choirs, Mussorgsky, math rock and Tuareg guitar bands, Black Sabbath, and Bolt Thrower. In what is likely the first instance of a blast beat and a wall of amps in the Soundcheck Studio, Zelenaya sculpts Eastern European folk tunes into doom metal-laden arrangements, sung in Ukrainian and Georgian, in-studio. Y'know, there was a time when 1994 actually seemed relatively “recent”, like maybe a couple of decades ago, but we're actually 30 years beyond 1994, the year when Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in his garage, Quentin Tarantino released an ultra-vulgar display of cinema with “Pulp Fiction”, Sony forever changed the gaming landscape with the PlayStation, Slayer returned with a new drummer and a newly “manscaped” look (for some), and Pantera released their most extreme album to date that went to Number 1 on Billboard and forever changed the mainstream perception of metal.   It's time to line up the “flavor crystals” and grab yourself some “chickle & waffles” before you pick up “a waft” and get “thumb blasted” while going “full clean (with an arrow)”.

Dood & Verderf

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 16, 2024 59:35

Daarnaast is Master Killer de intro van onze podcast Tales From The Eastside. Zo verbinden we mensen. 2. Testament – More Than Meets The Eye (The Formation of Damnation, 2008) Er bestaat een stereotiep beeld van liefhebbers van metal, punk en hardcore. 3. Dus hij maakt de titel ‘Live For This' zeker waar. 4. No Guts No Glory benefietcover (2021) Ik wil Stichting No Guts No Glory graag onder de aandacht brengen. 5. 6. Zwaar Aanbevolen Boundaries - Turning Hate Into Rage (Death is little more, 2024) “Metal Business Club?

Alongside their English contemporaries in Carcass & Napalm Death, Coventry's Bolt Thrower helped define extreme music throughout the late 80s & 90s. Their 3rd full-length, War Master, bridged the gap between their frantic grindcore roots and the pummeling, mid-paced death metal of future releases. Songs like “Profane Creation”, “Cenotaph”, and the album's titular track make the listener feel as though they're on the battlefield of an epic, futuristic war with the fate of mankind hanging in the balance. Formed in 1991 during the zenith of the death metal explosion, this American trio has matured into one of the premier acts in the global death metal and grindcore scenes. Known for their relentless sonic assault, innovative song structures, and thought-provoking lyrics, Dying Fetus has become synonymous with uncompromising death metal excellence. The band was originally founded in Maryland by guitarist and vocalist John Gallagher, along with guitarist Nick Speleos and drummer Jason Netherton. Dying Fetus quickly gained recognition for their brutal live performances and ferocious musicality. Their early years were marked by a series of demos, culminating in their 1995 debut album, "Infatuation with Malevolence." This release showcased their blend of technical virtuosity and savage aggression, setting the stage for what would become a storied career. As the band evolved, they solidified their lineup with John Gallagher as the sole remaining founding member, joined by musicians who would contribute significantly to the band's signature sound. The lineup changes didn't deter their musical progression; instead, they pushed forward, refining their craft with each release.Dying Fetus' discography is a testament to their commitment to musical excellence. Albums like "Purification Through Violence" (1996), "Killing On Adrenaline" (1998), and "Destroy The Opposition" (2001) firmly established the band as a force to be reckoned with in the death metal world. These records showcased their technical proficiency and songwriting prowess, earning them a devoted fan base. The band's lyrical content, while often unflinchingly brutal, delves into sociopolitical themes, reflecting a desire to provoke thought and discussion. This intellectual approach sets Dying Fetus apart, as their music engages both the visceral and the cerebral aspects of the listener's experience. In 2003, Dying Fetus released "Stop At Nothing," a record that further solidified their status as death metal giants. This album featured crushing riffs, intricate drum work, and visceral vocals, garnering critical acclaim and expanding their global fan base."War Of Attrition" (2007), "Descend Into Depravity" (2009), and "Reign Supreme" (2012) continued the band's tradition of delivering punishing death metal with technical finesse. Each album showcased their evolution as musicians and songwriters, drawing in new listeners while satisfying long-time fans.Their 2017 release, "Wrong One to Fuck With," was hailed as a "menacing motherfucker" by Metal InjectiThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

Formed in 1989 by the formidable force of John McEntee (guitar, vocals), the band has carved a nightmarish path through the realms of death metal, establishing themselves as pioneers of the genre. With relentless brutality, haunting atmospheres, and lyrics that delve into the macabre, Incantation has become a revered name among death metal aficionados.Incantation's origins can be traced to the fertile death metal scene of Pennsylvania, where they emerged alongside other iconic bands like Immolation and Mortician. From their early days, the band's mission was clear: to create the most uncompromising and darkly atmospheric death metal possible. With influences ranging from Morbid Angel to Autopsy, they set out to craft a sound that was unrelenting in its intensity.Their debut album, "Onward to Golgotha," released in 1992, was a revelation in the death metal underground. It showcased their mastery of churning, guttural riffs, thunderous drumming, and McEntee's demonic growls. The album's relentless assault and eerie, occult-themed lyrics struck a chord with fans of extreme music, earning it a place among the genre's classics. What sets Incantation apart is their unwavering dedication to sonic malevolence. Throughout their career, they've released a string of albums that each feels like a descent into the abyss. Albums like "Mortal Throne of Nazarene" (1994), "Diabolical Conquest" (1998), and "The Infernal Storm" (2000) continued to push the boundaries of brutality and darkness, earning them a devout following in the underground.Over the years, the band's lineup has seen its share of changes, with McEntee being the sole constant member. This has allowed Incantation to evolve while staying true to their core sound. They've collaborated with a rotating cast of exceptional musicians, each contributing to the band's infernal vision. In 2017, Incantation released "Profane Nexus," an album that reaffirmed their status as titans of death metal. With tracks like "Rites of the Locust" and "Messiah Nostrum," they demonstrated that their ability to conjure unholy soundscapes had not waned over the years.Incantation's enduring legacy in death metal is a testament to their dedication to the genre's roots and their fearless exploration of its darkest corners. They've inspired countless bands and continue to be a vital force in the evolution of extreme music. With each release, Incantation reaffirms their status as masters of unholy death metal, summoning aural nightmares that resonate with those who seek the depths of musical darkness. This episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

We cover so much ground, some common, some not but we leave no stone unturned. Be it Benediction, Bolt Thrower, Dr Who, The Church Of Satan, Radio Shows, moving to Denmark we cover everything!   There is also none of the things that you have come to expect from an episode. No news, no reviews and praise for Jamey Jasta. As well as a breakdown of a bands social media gone viral for all the wrong reasons.   This Is Classy Bollocks. *There is an annoying noise for about 30 seconds around 8/9 mins. Number 17 on the list is Realm of Chaos by Bolt Thrower? Grind, death and first wave black metal melded into one sloppy, high energy ass beater of a record. Definitely check this one out, it's one of my favourites on the list so far.

As though driven by an unearthly wind, Terminus' music pendulum is buffeted far to the opposite side of the last couple episodes with an evening of (mostly) pure death metal- generally oldschool, but portrayed in radically contrasting ways. We open with a peek at the debut EP by Licentious, announcing the return of Rob Fornicator (Fornicator, Whore, etc.) which combines his penchant for heroin-addict sleaze with the dissolute chaos of early Devourment. Recommended headbanging posture: stabbing motion. The Chasm returns after a long absence, allowing your hosts the opportunity to review not merely the newest record but the band as a whole. A long-running and crucial project carrying aloft the torch of the most erudite of oldschool death metal, the band on this record sets their sights on something a little different: highly technical, erudite thrash. The Chasm represents a crucial lineage in death metal: that of the Guitar Guy who sees technical performance and songwriting scope as inextricably intertwined. Recommended headbanging posture: invisible conductor's baton. Also returning from a long absence are Finnish bulldozers Slugathor, who have emerged from the depths of R'lyeh slower, lower, and more bestial than ever. Drawing from the ugliest and deepest pools found within Rippikoulu and Bolt Thrower, Slugathor appear primitive and reductive at first blush, but upon further examination reveal a master's touch in pacing and structure. Recommended headbanging posture: shotgun levelled execution-style at the head of planet Earth. 0:00:00 - Intro/Licentious - Licentious (Headsplit Records) 0:14:52 - The Chasm - The Scars of a Lost Reflective Shadow (Lex Inframundis Productions/Dark Descent) 1:01:54 - Interlude - Claude Debussy - Nocturnes III, “Sirènes,” performed by the Berliner Philharmoniker, Claudio Abbado conducting (Deutsche Grammophon, 2001) 1:11:41 - Slugathor - Crypt of the Ancient Fire (Drakkar Productions) 2:02:38 - Outro - Slugathor - “Endless Halls,” fr. This week on Toilet Radio: Joe and Breno discuss what it's like to be a human rotting towards middle age. We're talking about the failure of starting a band on Craigslist, refusing to engage with music, and finding new hobbies to get into forum arguments about. Breno regales us with a tale of seeing Kirk Hammett forget how to play guitar at a festival populated by young pop bands and... Weezer. Ugh. ALSO, Amon Amarth has a new track out and we finally get an answer to the question, "What if Five Finger Death Punch tried to rip off Bolt Thrower?" In better news, Mercyful Fate has new music and there's a trailer for a new Beavis and Butthead movie! Breno sends nice pedals to up-and-comers Knoll and we impotently yell at the Federal Reserve for making us broke as shit. Music featured on this ‘sode: A Wilhelm Scream – GIMMETHESHAKES Don't forget to rate, review, and subscribe to Toilet Radio on iTunes so you'll get new episodes automatically. Or use Stitcher if you don't fuck with Apple.
