Daarnaast is Master Killer de intro van onze podcast Tales From The Eastside. Zo verbinden we mensen. 2. Testament – More Than Meets The Eye (The Formation of Damnation, 2008) Er bestaat een stereotiep beeld van liefhebbers van metal, punk en hardcore. 3. Dus hij maakt de titel ‘Live For This' zeker waar. 4. No Guts No Glory benefietcover (2021) Ik wil Stichting No Guts No Glory graag onder de aandacht brengen. 5. 6. Zwaar Aanbevolen Boundaries - Turning Hate Into Rage (Death is little more, 2024) “Metal Business Club?
This week, we've got Wolf Hoffman of Accept back on The MetalSucks Podcast! During our discussion, we take a walk down memory lane to learn how he initially felt about the band's name, the trend of modern bands having hard to pronounce names, if he feels every new record is a discovery record for new fans or if adding to the legacy of Accept is the focus, and why releasing singles has very little merit in our genre. We also talk about Andy Sneap's opinion and important direction on modern Accept music, the necessary human contact when creating music for him, and why doing written interviews don't feel like much of a connection for artists. Brandon and Petar discuss how much we would consider a fair price for Chuck Schuldiner's Green B.C. Rich guitar, a ticket stub for arguably one of the worst days in heavy metal history, Jerry Cantrell's guitar going missing and then found, and our thoughts on if Marilyn Manson being sober makes a difference to fans at this point. Chuck Schuldiner was never one to follow the herd. Dissatisfied with the limitations many extreme metal bands had placed on themselves, Schuldiner always strived to set Death apart lyrically and musically. Each era of the band contains a distinct sonic quality, and with the technical proficiency and introspective themes of their fourth album Human it was clear they had matured. Much of this progress can be attested to the inclusion of Cynic members Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert along with metal bass pioneer Steve Di Giorgio. Schuldiner always surrounded himself with musicians capable of elevating his music and their next album would be no different. With Di Giorgio returning on bass, Schuldiner also enlisted the skills of Dark Angel drummer Gene Hoglan as well as King Diamond guitarist Andy LaRocque to create an undeniably tight unit. Death entered the world famous Morrisound Recording in Tampa, Florida and emerged in mid-1993 with a record packed full of intricate rhythms, blistering leads, and scathing lyrics. VOLBEAT frontman Michael Poulsen joins us on this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast to discuss his new death metal project ASINHELL For over two decades, Michael Poulsen, the vocalist and guitarist, has been at the forefront of the Danish rock and roll powerhouse known as VOLBEAT. During this time, the band has released eight full-length albums, sold millions of records, and rocked stadiums across the globe. However, prior to his leadership role in VOLBEAT, Poulsen was the driving force behind the death metal outfit DOMINUS, which unleashed four blistering albums in the mid-'90s. While crafting songs for VOLBEAT's 2021 album "Servant Of The Mind," Poulsen found himself composing a slew of death metal riffs, which he saved on his phone. Once the VOLBEAT record was wrapped up, he dusted off these rusty gates to unleash Armageddon and began piecing together songs for his new death metal project, ASINHELL. Their debut album, "Impii Hora" (Latin for "Ungodly Hour"), pays homage to Poulsen's beloved old-school bands. These tracks are anchored in punishing riffs yet laced with potent guitar hooks and infectious, chant-worthy refrains. Despite being the vocalist for VOLBEAT and previously for DOMINUS, Poulsen decided not to take the frontman role in ASINHELL. Instead, in March 2022, he reached out to his old friend, former MORGOTH vocalist Marc Grewe (also known for his work with INSIDIOUS DISEASE), and invited him to join the endeavor. When it came to selecting a drummer, Poulsen considered several accomplished musician friends. Ultimately, he enlisted Morten Toft Hansen, the drummer from the Danish group RAUNCHY. Morten not only possesses exceptional drumming skills, but his six-year-old daughter also happens to be friends with Poulsen's daughter, and the convenience of a 10-minute drive to Morten's place "sealed the deal". These two seasoned musicians began their practice sessions, consistently churning out a complete song nearly every time they got together. However, as Grewe was based in Germany, he had to work on the vocals from home. Poulsen facilitated this process by sending Grewe phone recordings from their rehearsals. Drawing upon their years of experience and a renewed hunger for musical destruction, Poulsen and Toft Hansen managed to capture a ferocious storm in a bottle with ASINHELL. In the interview, Michael talks about how ASINHELL came together, his absolute love of classic extreme metal, his three essential death metal albums, his admiration of late DEATH frontman Chuck Schuldiner and much more.

On this episode we chat with Rom and Diana of the instrumental progressive metal band, Static Limit. The south Texas-based group was formed in 2003 by Rom Garza (guitars & synth) along with Jay Juarez (bass) and Mario Rivera (drums). After cutting their teeth playing regional shows around "The Valley" and cultivating a sound incorporating elements of metal, thrash, progressive rock and cinematic scores, the band eventually recorded their debut album and released A Thing About Machines in 2014. In 2016 Juan Garza was added as an additional guitarist & keyboardist for live shows and Justin Garcia replaced Mario Rivera on drums. Shortly after, Diana De Hoyos, a long time fan and musical colleague, auditioned and took over on bass guitar after the departure of Jay Juarez. After a few teaser singles, the band's long-awaited 2nd album, Existentia, was released in late 2021. The album, mixed at Widowmaker Studios, showcases a variety of instrumentation, techniques, and styles ranging from crunchy riffing guitars and soaring solos to progressive rhythmic juxtapositions and unique synth soundscapes. Check out the play-though video of "Veil of Illusion". Rom, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and producer, grew up in the small Texas town of San Juan in the Rio Grande Valley and began playing guitar at age 13 after being inspired by thrash and death metal bands. He cites influences such as guitar virtuosos Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Marty Friedman, John Petrucci and Chuck Schuldiner but also pulls from a vast list of Sci-Fi, action and horror film scores. Rom attended The University Of Texas Pan American where he earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering. He is also the guitarist and founding member of the TV/Film/Video Game Tribute band Sonic Boom. Born to musician parents in McAllen, Texas, Diana grew up in Weslaco, TX and was immersed in music from a young age. She played percussion and guitar before moving to bass to perform in her family's band. After graduating from high school she enrolled at the University Of Texas Pan American where she earned a Bachelors in Political Science and Philosophy. Recently she has been focused on getting her Masters with a focus on Special Education. Diana has an eclectic pallet of influences ranging from Dolly Parton to Rush and describes her playing style as one that feeds off of her band mates. Rom and Diana talk about their musical origins, the creative process, gear, writing, drum programming and production, and we talk The Matrix, Star Wars, Aliens, Nick Cage, fine dining, favorite Megadeth albums, and of course, Bermuda Triangle bands. By 1991 Death Metal was in full swing, and the blueprint for a successful image and sound was in place for most bands in the Florida scene, but Chuck Schuldiner would make the huge right turn for the genre when he unleashed his Fourth album Human. At that point the path that the scene he helped create would go one way, and Chuck Schuldiner would go discover new ground. He would redefine the rules placed by those who came afterwards, and create art where critics felt was a low brow form of music. Every album he put forward would create a different path for anyone in extreme music and create a legacy that would only belong to him, but the conflicts internally in his camp and with the industry would follow him throughout his career, until the fateful day everything would change for the him and the fanbase he created across the globe.
For this latest episode of The Broken Record Player Podcast, I am joined by Necrotic Nick and Jammin Jon from the YouTube channel Thralls of Metal. We're taking a look at one of the classics from the Florida Death Metal scene: Death's 1988 masterpiece Leprosy! We take a look at every song, talk about the mad scientist behind Death, Mr. Chuck Schuldiner, as well as discuss how Leprosy really helped to put Death Metal on the map. Leprosy expanded Death's sound from their debut, Scream Bloody Gore, and really showcased the talent of Chuck. Sadly, as we discuss in the episode, Chuck's life was cut short due to cancer, but through albums like Leprosy, he left behind a legacy that will never die.
This week we're discussing the one and only album by Control Denied. Metal nerds will be familiar with this band because it was the last record Death's Chuck Schuldiner released before his untimely death. This is basically Death but with NWOBHM-style vocals. God, we miss Chuck. Not the punk band, we've told their story already. This time we're bringing you the story of the most influential, yet under-celebrated bands in metal, Death! Mainly the only consistent member, Chuck Schuldiner. Hear about his childhood and how he would become a non-stop creative force to change the face of the metal scene going forward. But we don't just talk about Chuck, but we get into some other major players in the death metal scene, beyond their contributions to this band and into their many accomplishments in music and society! After the release of the debut record form Death entitled Scream Bloody Gore, the musical genre known as Death Metal had a presence created by Chuck Schuldiner that would spawn extreme acts across the globe. Conflict would follow as his loyalty to his home and family would clash with the vagabond life of a touring musician in an extreme heavy metal band, line up changes and touring conflicts would start a rumor mill as the competitive nature of the Florida Death Metal scene in the late 80's would start to become a major underground musical movement, and Chuck would have to navigate through negative press and peers to maintain his hold on the genre he helped create, or he would have to redefine it once again. Certain names in Metal are uttered in hushed tones of reverence, as if belonging to godlike, super-advanced creatures from other dimensions. Such respect and reverence are deserving of genre defining prodigies and artists who are often light-years ahead of their own time. In this instance, we’re referring to The Riff Lord Wizard sent to further evolutionize Metal to yet another level of genius rifftactical badassery: Enter (and HAIL) CHUCK SCHULDINER. “The Godfather of Death Metal” helped spawn an entirely new genre of metal, blending all of the best elements of progressive and thrash metal while simultaneously intensifying the technicality, musicianship, and profound, thought-provoking lyricism (already inherently part of bolth genres) with beautifully precise craftsmanship and flawlessly executed production. (And to think, at the time, we just thought it was the next wave of Thrash…Nope. This was CHUCK SCHULDINER. This was DEATH. THIS was the dawn of Death Metal!) Grab your train-whistle and blow off that morning meeting (really, you’ll be better once you’re fully relaxerized and caffeinated anyway), because after you phone in your order for Ron’s signature Nacho Relaxerole you’re gonna wanna JOIN US as we talk about the multi splendored genius of CHUCK SCHULDINER and DEATH. RIP Chuck Schuldiner.
When it comes to the history of extreme heavy metal Chuck Schuldiner will always have a chapter, as the media proclaimed Godfather of Death Metal, he would invent a sound and style of the underground that would influence the genre eternally. However despite the brutal name of his band Death and the genres boundary pushing existence in horror, gore, and violence. The person behind the sounds birth, was never one to fit into a mold or label to the music he inspired, instead would create a truly original voice that would go beyond any genre. Part 1 of 3

( Muerte ).

Al año siguiente lanzaron el álbum recopilatorio Fate - The Best of Death.

Often in life, we don’t discover the truth about something until it’s too late. And the truth about Powertrip is that they are an anachronistic anomaly in Thrash Metal: yeah they may have come to power in the late 2000’s and 2010’s but they would sound right at home in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s era of Thrash Metal that we hold so dear. Baltimore, MD's Exist have a deep lineage across the metal spectrum and with some of the most heralded bands in history. So it should come as no surprise they've made a splash since their mid 2000s debut or that they've shared tours with many elite bands. Their first two albums were an encyclopedia of how progressive metal is done and now with their third, Egoiista, ready to roll they, yet again, hold a masterclass in how to stay atop this crowded genre and dive deeper into their own mechanics to make a junior effort their best yet. Just ahead of Egoiista's release, Max Phelps took some precious time to chat with Buke about the album, its mechanics and methods of constructing its many moving pieces, and how their complex music lands with fans. They also spend time on the network of metal and how they deal with sharing members across many other projects, the jazz community and its impact on Max, newest member Brody Smith's impact, Chuck Schuldiner's lasting legacy, remembering Sean Reinert, Max's Cynic and Death tie in, and so much more! It's an epic conversation -- jump in and take a listen! Egoiista will be available August 28 on Bandcamp, and on Prosthetic Records.
THEY TRIED TO KILL THEM… THEY KEEP COMING BACK!! After a small bout of technical difficulty probably due to illumanti interference with the signal due to all the groundbreaking content being unearthed, our first podcast was mysteriously inaudible as the legend of the lost episode lives on….BUT ALAT! The Cardio Killer is BACK and we are more prepared with death metal nerd power than ever before. we talk the classics, what new bands you should keep an eyeball on, how we’re staying healthy in quarantine, cardio, weightlifting, blood drinking, cannibal corpse, and if Chuck Schuldiner were still alive he’d be… LISTEN TO FIND OUT!Thanks to THE CARDIO KILLER, Schuler of Death Drive 90.5, for doing this. This week we are talking about Death from Orlando, FL. Death—or more accurately, Chuck Schuldiner—is often credited with creating the entire death metal sub-genre, although music nerds probably still debate that. Even still, there is no question how important they were and are to metal. Death is absolutely incredible and it’s truly heartbreaking Schuldiner passed away so young. This is one of the most consistent bands you’ll ever find and one of the smartest, most musical metal bands of all time. Also, at one point during the episode Mike accidentally says their final album was released in 1999 instead of 1998 and he still hasn’t forgiven himself for it.Closing track: “A Moment of Clarity” from The Sound of Perseverance (1998)Check out our episode playlists on Spotify! https://open.spotify.com/user/motherpuncherincMike’s Picks:The Sound of Perseverance (1998) — Best Album, Personal FavoriteSpiritual Healing (1990) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlex’s Picks:Human (1991) — Best AlbumThe Sound of Perseverance (1998) — Personal FavoriteScream Bloody Gore (1987) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlbums we discussed this episode…Scream Bloody Gore (1987)Leprosy (1988)Spiritual Healing (1990)Human (1991)Individual Thought Patterns (1993)Symbolic (1995)The Sound of Perseverance (1998)Follow Mike on Instagram @popejesseventura and Alex @motherpuncher
As metal nerds, we don’t just listen to the music; we dig. Forever digging: always searching for intriguing new information about our favorite metal bands (like the kinda stuff you might see on Metal Jeopardy if it were a thing). On this Metal Nerdery Listicle (yes, you read that correctically), we run down some of UltimateClassicRock.com’s (UCR) “100 Metal facts you might not have known”. Like Lovecraftian shadows out of time, the bois return for the latest instalment of the show that no being knew they could live without, Ex Inferis. Episode 9 tightens its Bible Belt a few notches and sets its ruinous gaze on the Sunshine State as Tom and Matt audit the genesis of Florida Death Metal. From the prototypical seeds sown by thrash revisionists Nasty Savage and Savatage, the show delves deep in to some of the scene’s most infinitely pressing questions such as “Was the Morbid Angel’s involvement with the ‘Satanic Panic’ a government coverup?” “How is Chuck Schuldiner so attractive?” And “Glen Benton? Really?” Apologies for the delay with this one, we’ve both been super busy but hope you enjoy! Hit us up on the socials too!

Chapter 91: "Driving The Truck" ...as read by Gene Hoglan of Testament, Strapping Young Lad, Death, Dethklok, Dark Angel and on and on. (Recorded Tuesday January 24, 2017) This just keeps getting better. I am joined by now-legendary drummer Gene Hoglan for this next chapter. If you're into metal then I'm willing to bet that not only have you heard Gene play drums before but probably own a few albums that he is on. Gene has played with Dark Angel, Devin Townsend, Strapping Young Lad, Death, Fear Factory, Dethklok , now currently working with Testament and he was even a guest vocalist on Slayer's "Show No Mercy". He has appeared live with Opeth, Anthrax and Unearth under what can be considered "emergency circumstances." Nothing rattles this guy. Gene and I discuss his trip to NAMM, his earliest induction into the scene through his older sister, pulling off the interstate to pick up music so he could learn it on the way to the gig, his tremendous effort committed to weight loss, health and avoiding diabetes, Death and Chuck Schuldiner and air drumming on his bed to become an open-handed hi-hat leftie because of where he had his record player as a kid. Most importantly, Gene has his new SELF-FUNDED drumming dvd "The Atomic Clock Strikes Two" coming out on Feb 3rd. Please don't steal it. Instead go to his website and order it! You might know Richard Christy as a cast member of The Howard Stern show, but metalheads know him as being a badass drummer with Death, Control Denied, Iced Earth, and now Charred Walls of the Damned. In our in-depth interview we spend a lot of time talking about that history, his relationship with Chuck Schuldiner, the story of Death and the end of the band, how he approaches the drums, and what Charred Walls of the Damned means to him in his very busy schedule. Christy has been a vital part of not one but two crucially important and disparate cultural icons, Death and The Howard Stern Show; how did he do it? We dig in. Also this week we praise ICP followers for being the most dedicated fans of all time. Cutting one's finger off to pay tribute in a ritual salute to a fallen Juggalo is the most metal thing we have heard a fan of any genre of music doing in twenty years. Boredom and Faygo can be a dangerous mix. Songs: Charred Walls of the Damned – "The Soulless" Alcest - "Oiseaux de proie"

Matt Harvey, mastermind behind the twenty-five-year history of Exhumed, guests this week. We talk about the re-recording of the classic album Gore Metal, how bands survive with so many lineup changes, and what his personal role was in shaping the band's history. We talk about growing up without much a metal scene, keeping death metal alive in the '90s and how his new project Gruesome is really a love letter to Chuck Schuldiner and old school Death. Chuck and Godless also talk about the recent flap between ex-Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward and SharOz Osbourne. Is the responsibility on Ward to be in the best physical condition possible to remain with the band, or do Sabbath have an obligation to bring an original member along for the the ride despite the needs of an aging member? Songs:Gruesome - "Trapped In Hell"Gallows - "Leather Crown"
On March 20, 2014 Christina Tobin interviewed Paul Masvidal, guitarist and vocalist with progressive metal band Cynic, who will be performing at Free & Equal's United We Stand Festival May 10th at UCLA. Masvidal formed Cynic as a young teen in the late '80s in Florida; was recruited by the late Chuck Schuldiner to play guitar with Death in 1991; released the first Cynic record in 1993, and broke up after several years; Masvidal went on to attend UCLA, Musicians Institute; he studied jazz, worked in television and film, released an album with a folkgroup, Æon Spoke. He regrouped with Cynic in 2008, releasing four albums in five years. He talks about how important it is to have integrity and follow your heart in your work, how Frank Zappa went up against the government on music censorship, how big Pharma is keeping people sick instead of searching for cures, and how he worked with Jim Carrey on a children’s book, How Roland Rolls. Discussing the spiritual path of Cynic’s music (Paul is a Buddhist), he observes that “Everything that we think is working against us is actually a tool to help us grow.” Masvidal discusses his volunteer work with terminally ill people, helping them cope, how rewarding it is to “be of service to the planet and to your fellow humans.” Christina Tobin urges listeners to visit CynicOnline.com. “The more we support his music the more he can give back to the community.”
