The speaker discusses the concept of being a "Bible Christian," emphasizing the importance of authentic faith over mere affiliation. Using the analogy of golfers regaining confidence, he highlights the need for believers to revert to the New Covenant, as outlined in Jeremiah 31, where God's law is written on hearts, not stone. He recounts personal experiences and scriptures, including Deuteronomy 5 and Romans 8, to illustrate the transformation required. The speaker stresses that true faith involves surrendering one's life to Christ, allowing Him to occupy the throne in one's spirit, and living according to His will.
Former Protestant pastors Ken Hensley and Kenny Burchard continue their series looking at how they began to rethink their commitment to the Bible alone as the sole and sufficient rule for faith and practice. Matt, Ken, and Kenny did deeper into the historical practice of the earliest Christians, and look at what primary sources can tell us about the role of Scripture in the first centuries of Christianity. How does the way the Church Fathers interacted with Scripture help us understand the nature of authority in the early Church? Yes. There are people who say they believe in Jesus but also state they don't really want anything to do with the Bible. What? Is that a thing? Evidently, it is. Here are some thoughts... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

To be a “Bible Christian” is to be a Catholic.
Message from Gary Gilley on March 12, 2023
I know many have a re-invigorated desire to read, study, and know God's Word, so I've decided to take a couple of episodes at the beginning of this year and speak to you on the priority and practice of Bible reading and study in our lives as Christians. This week, I want to remind you about what the Bible is. If we have the correct view of the Bible, we will be moved to read, study, and live the Bible more. You may be a faithful, fluctuating, or frustrated Bible reader. Regardless of where you are, I hope this episode will move you closer to God through His word this year. In this episode, I offer four reminders about the Bible: We must remember that the Bible is the very Word of God We need the Bible We can and should delight in the Bible We must read the Bible to know God.
Many people are surprised that the name of the people of God, "Israel," means to "wrestle with God". But, that was the name God gives to Jacob, who is a character full of faults and failures, and that became the name of everyone who are called God's people in the Bible ( Christians are called "new Israel" in the New Testament). So, in this episode, we will explore how Jacob received this name and how we are to understand the relationship between humanity and God. This episode is also a milestone of sort, as it was it was originally meant to cap the second phase of the series (the first phase being the first season). As such, the episode will reference many of the key ideas in the past episodes.P.S. If I sound somewhat different in this episode, it's because I'm currently recovering from Covid; so please stay safe and healthy, everyone! 0:00 The name, “Israel” means to wrestle with God 2:55 Overall recap of what “God speaks” means 10:25 Jacob's ladder and God's promise 19:05 Jacob's life, struggling with family 25:09 Jacob's struggles and God's promise 31:57 Jacob wrestles with his fears and hopes 36:06 To live, is to wrestle with God ---------------------------------------- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/whatdoyoumeangodspeaks/ website: https://whatdoyoumeangodspeaks.buzzsprout.com/ Support the show
In the Bible Christians are told to not love the world, but we're also told to bear God's image, and God describes himself as loving the world. This makes sense if we understand what St. Augustine meant by not loving anything or anyone out of order; in other words, loving what we should love in the right order: God first, our fellow image-bearers next, and his good creation third. So Christians should love the world, but not more than they love God. But we must also understand that the Bible uses the word “world” in different ways. First, it is God's good creation, and so should be loved and served and enjoyed (though, again, not more than God himself); but second, the “world” sometimes refers in the Bible to the world's system which is controlled by and feeds on lust, power, greed, and pride, and this world system. The former should be encouraged and nurtured by all humans, but the latter must be rejected by Christians, who are called to fight in Jesus' name against all idolatry. What kind of Bible do you have? Most of us would answer with the translation we carry. Maybe it's New Living, the King James, or the New International Version. I've heard plenty of conversations about translations in my life. But I've never heard a serious discussion about the notes in various Bibles. Continuing our long exploration of the Christian fundamentalist movement, we explore the Bible version that nudged the United States toward a particular negative theology. One that encouraged people to question the trajectory of history itself. That was one of the purposes of the Scofield Reference Bible, named for its author C.I. Scofield. The Scofield Reference Bible emphasizes the premillennial dispensationalist theology we've been talking about all season. It expects that world history is sliding into chaos. That was not the primary view in the late 1800s and early 1900s in the US. Most people thought that humanity could improve things until Jesus returned. This Bible is one of the things that changed that. Special thanks to Nick, Melanie, Hannah, Marc, and Marian for their help with this episode! Discussion Questions: What kind of Bible do you have? Why did you choose it? What agenda does your Bible have? What audience is it intended for? Who wrote your Bible notes? Flip to Genesis 1 and Revelation 1. What position does it take on creationism? The end of the world? Have you ever considered the origins of your study notes? How do you feel about us having so many different targeted Bibles? In this week's episode, Derek and Lisa talk about the pitfalls of resolutions and what those pitfalls mean to Christians. Are goals being used as tools or metrics for success (or failure)? Ultimately, the conclusion is drawn in typical Dokter Knows Best fashion where love of God, love of self, and love for others is the true goal and if a resolution doesn't fall into those categories, then it's probably not good for you. But listen in and make your own determination. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dokterknowsbest/message

We hope you'll listen in. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dokterknowsbest/message
76 - In today's episode, we share 5 reasons why we didn't read the Bible and what surprised us when we did for a whole year. We never realized the Bible isn't just a set of rules to live by. It is God's story. It is about him not us. When you start showing up to read it. Something amazing happens. You start to see His love, grace, mercy, wisdom, is on every page. Set a plan. Show up. Knowing that some days you will be into it and other days a struggle. Stay patient. Keeping going God's word gives you life. So friends, don't be afraid to read the Bible like we were for so many years. Be disciplined with it. Make it a priority. A habit. Approach it with an open mind and heart. Have a plan and just start.
