B. Cox and J. Owe look back at OutKast's classic third album Aquemini as it turns 25. After the success of their sophomore album, 1996's ATLiens, Andre and Big Boi both had major life events that affected their outlooks and artistry, included breakups and the start of fatherhood. Given more creative license, the group sought to take even more control of the production of their third album. The album was largely self-produced along with contributions from Mr. DJ and their mentors Organized Noize. It featured guest appearances from Raekwon, George Clinton, fellow Dungeon Family members from Goodie Mob, Sleepy Brown, Cool Breeze, Witchdoctor, Big Rube and Erykah Badu. The album explored themes of the duality of the two emcees through their respective Zodiac signs (Big Boi's Aquarius and Andre's Gemini) and how they interpreted the same set of circumstances in everyday life. Both emcees were heavily influenced by music of their predecessors in Motwon and Stax Records as well as progressive rock and soul. The album was backed by three singles, the most successful being the funky, yet controversial "Rosa Parks". It was praised for its intricate and cutting lyricism, storytelling and imagery along with its vivid production. The album received the coveted 5-Mic rating in The Source and has been certified double platinum, cited as the duo's best work and one of the best albums of the decade regardless of region.Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comBuy Exclusive The Vault Podcast Merchandise!www.vaultclassicpod.com/storeSupport The Vault Classic Music Reviews on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodBuild Your Own Amazing Podcast Website In Less Than 5 Minutes!https://www.podpage.com/?via=ivecre8Show NotesOutKast's "Aquemini Turns 25 | Album Anniversary https://albumism.com/features/outkast-aquemini-album-anniversaryRock & Roll Globe: 'Return of The G': OutKast's 'Aquemini' at 25 https://rockandrollglobe.com/rap/return-of-the-g-outkasts-aquemini-at-25/Rock The Bells: OutKast's 'Aquemini' at 25: A Look Back At One of Music's Greatest Albumshttps://rockthebells.com/articles/outkast-aquemini-25-year-anniversary/Billboard: OutKast "Aquemini Is the Pinnacle of the Duo's Arthttps://www.billboard.com/music/rb-hip-hop/outkast-aquemini-anniversary-8477481/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Episode #133 features Chef, Reuben Harley aka Big Rube and New York Yankees Public Address Announcer, Paul Olden, and an Extra Special Rant from Co-host, Jeff Reuben Harley is known to everyone as Big Rube. We invited him on to discuss the product he created, Diamond Dirt Rub which is perfect for your grilled foods and can be found at baseballbbq.com https://baseballbbq.com/products/big-rubes-diamond-dirt-rub. Big Rube's love of fashion and baseball helped turn a passion for throwback jerseys into the marketing plan that helped Mitchell & Ness cross over from a niche supplier of old jerseys to older men into a pop-culture phenomenon. Throughout his career, Big Rube has used cooking to fuel his passion, selling homemade cakes, operating a food truck, and cooking in pop-ups to satisfy hungry customers. Over many acts of a varied career, Big Rube has become an accomplished photographer, a fashion designer, and a sought-after chef. We talk about so many things, including his mother being a seamstress for Muhammad Ali's wife, his grandfather driving Jackie Robinson, his 35-year friendship with Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff, and his decision not to appear in their music video as to not lose out on tip money, and the perfect Philly Cheesesteak which he makes and serves at Philadelphia's, Pitchers Pub. Paul Olden has had an incredible and distinguished career in the world of sports, which has led him to his current position as public address announcer for the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. The journey has included working as a radio and television play-by-play announcer for the Yankees, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, California Angels, Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Eagles, UCLA Bruins, Los Angeles Rams, New York Jets, New Jersey Nets, and ESPN as well as serving as a sports update guy for WFAN radio. Paul is another of our guests who have been a target of an infamous profanity-laden rant from the late, Los Angeles Dodgers manager, Tommy Lasorda. From 1994 to 2005, Paul worked as the Super Bowl public address announcer. We discuss all of this and so much more as Paul leads us through his wonderful life and career. Between the two interviews, Jeff has a rant you will not want to miss. We recommend you go to baseballbbq.com https://baseballbbq.com for special grilling tools and accessories, the Pandemic Baseball Book Club, https://www.pbbclub.com to find many of the wonderful books we have featured as well as some additional swag, BBQ Buddha, https://bbqbuddha.com/ for rubs and award-winning sauces and Magnechef https://magnechef.com/ for excellent and unique barbecue gloves. We conclude the show with the song, "Baseball Always Brings You Home" by the musician, Dave Dresser, and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. We truly appreciate our listeners and hope that all of you are staying safe. If you would like to contact the show, we would love to hear from you. Big Rube's Kitchen serves up Chef Reuben Harley's signature fried chicken, Philly cheesesteak and halal beef burgers from its ghost restaurant locations in Center City, University City and Subaru Park. Delivery is available through Grubhub, Uber Eats, DoorDash and Postmates. Aaron Anderson, franchise owner of four Original Hot Dog Factory restaurants, partnered with Chef Reuben Harley to launch the new business in 2020. While nearly half of Black-owned businesses were forced to close during the pandemic, renowned Philadelphia entrepreneur Anderson found creative ways to not only stay open, but to also grow, by pivoting and adapting to current trends. “I will do all I can to make sure I can not only thrive during this time but will motivate others to do the same,” said Anderson. In addition to his four Original Hot Dog Factory locations in Center City, The Bourse Food Hall, Fishtown and Subaru Park, in summer 2020 he opened another franchise in Philadelphia and is in negotiations for one in New York. Menu items include the Jamaican Jerk Chicken Dog, topped with grilled pineapples, sweet onions and a sweet island sauce; a surf ‘n' turf dog; an all-beet hot dog topped with lump crab meat and the Italian dog, a deep-fried sausage topped with peppers and onion. The Original Hot Dog Factory also serves chicken wings, burgers, fries and corn dog nuggets. Anderson credits some of his success during the pandemic to catering to first responders and essential workers, and making sure all his employees and take-out customers are in a safe environment to prevent the spread of COVID-19, with social distancing, face masks and the installation of self-service kiosks. Born and raised in the tough inner city of Philadelphia, Anderson credits his mother, a single parent of five, with his unyielding strength, discipline, humility, passion and persistent need to be of service to those in need. Anderson's foray into being a business owner — the very first in his family — started with the launch of his own screen-printing company in 2009, Union Printing. The idea to start this company culminated while working as an assistant to a top record company executive at Sony in New York City. Anderson realized a need to provide quality merchandise for an affordable price after seeing an invoice at work and convinced his bosses that he could not only meet the demand for the record label's printing, but most importantly, for a far better price. As the saying goes, the rest is history. Anderson not only surpassed expectations at Sony, but Union Printing established itself as a leader in the industry and is still hugely successful more than a decade later. Anderson's success with Union Printing provided not only financial stability, but also the experience needed to open his first restaurant franchise in March 2020, which he did without needing any loans. His immediate success within The Original Hot Dog Factory organization led to him becoming an area representative, trainer for new franchisees and obtaining a percentage of company ownership. Anderson also recently acquired two Rita's Italian Ice locations in Philadelphia, adding to his growing franchise empire. His keen interest in technology prompted him to become an investor in the pharmaceutical application QwikScript and flight simulator application Flype. These strategic investments contribute to his growing financial portfolio and further strengthens his parent company Axxeum LLC, which was formed in 2018. In line with his desire to give back to the community, he became a member of Philadelphia's Chamber of Commerce and The Pyramid Club. Anderson is an investor in Storehouse, a cannabis chain in New Jersey. His future plans include becoming an elected official in his home state of Pennsylvania. An inspirational memoir about his life is also in the works to provide invaluable information and encouragement to others who desire to follow in his footsteps. We had the chance to catch up with the homies T-Mo, Big Gipp, Kujo and Cee-Lo Green otherwise known as "The Goodie Mob". We chopped it up about their start in the game, how they came up together, their extra-curricular activities, and discussed some good ol' fashioned gangsterism. We also went in depth with Kujo about the accident that cost him part of his leg and how it gave him a new perspective. The audio on this EP isn't perfect, but you can hear what's going on. Everything we do isn't in the studio, we are basically just recording conversations with the homies, so we don't wanna hear no complaints, just enjoy the show lol. Cee-Lo was in the whip and the other homies were in traffic, but we made it happen. oh and make sure you stream their new album "Survival Kit" featuring Andre 3000, Big Boi, Big Rube and the legendary Chuck D. We dropped a link for you right here "Survival Kit Spotify"

After some planning from 2019, I get to sit down with one of my favorite musicians from Georgia. We talk about southern Hip Hop and how it influences reshaped the genre forever. Being heavily influenced by the iconic Dungeon Family and having Big Rube on the featured track, Sir. Tron is like history repeating itself. Also with him being Full Sail Family, we had to get it in about our alma mater along the way. Enjoy the show, this is one to remember! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Big Rube is Southern Hip-Hop royalty; when he speaks, people listen. For over 25 years Big Rube has been delivering classic monologues on Southern Hip-Hop albums that stir the soul and spark the mind, including legendary performances with OutKast, Future, Goodie Mob and Offset. Big Rube visited BOTM last season to talk about growing up in Atlanta during the Atlanta Child Murders, but of course he gifted us with so many more stories and behind-the-scenes perspective on his contributions to the Dungeon Family. This is the extended version of that conversation.

Then we welcome more of Philly's greatness, with Philly's very own ReubenBig RubeHarley Reuben Harley – A.K.A – “Big Rube”. His blog Big Rube " Street Gazing"" at: http://www.streetgazing.com/ is extremely popular. With his savvy eye and hip image mindset, he helped Mitchell & Ness become a global name by marketing the band as the fashion statement of stars from Mariah Carey to JAY-Z. He had a catering business and in 2013 he dwelled back in an old chapter and started doing Pop-ups at prominent restaurants in Philadelphia from Zavino Hospitality doing his Ground Turkey lasagna , to even his world famous Fried chicken and Waffles at Toast Philly, Vesper Sporting Club, and Saint Benjamin Brewing Company Tap and more and even winning competitions against seasoned chefs with his recipes. Then we have Izabella Brooks, the Brand Manager of Victoria Fine Foods. Victoria Fine Foods use only a handful of fresh wholesome ingredients without added sugar, water or preservatives. They were among the first to put their ingredients on the front of their labels, hence their tagline: “Ingredients Come First”. They use only the finest ingredients and slow kettle cooking process to give their pasta sauce an authentic homemade taste, so you don't have to make it yourself. So take a ride with them; slow down, and taste what life has to offer. Good food tastes even better when you also do good deeds.
