Jesse Starcher, Robert Cooper and Mark Radulich present their Alcest Les Chants de l Aurore Metal Album Review as part of the MHOD Jukebox!Les Chants de l'Aurore (transl. The Songs of Dawn) is the seventh studio album by French post-black metal band Alcest, released on 21 June 2024 by Nuclear Blast.Alcest is a French post-black metal band from Bagnols-sur-Cèze, founded and led by Neige (Stéphane Paut). It began in 2000 as a black metal solo project by Neige, then became a trio, but members Aegnor and Argoth left the band following the 2001 release of their first demo, leaving Neige as the sole member. Neige began incorporating elements of shoegaze and post-metal into the project's sound from 2005 onwards and is largely credited with pioneering the fusion genre known as blackgaze. In 2009, drummer Winterhalter from Les Discrets joined Alcest, after eight years with Neige as its sole full-time member.Since its creation, Alcest has released seven studio albums and a number of EPs and split releases. Their fourth album, 2014's Shelter, marked a dramatic shift towards a distinctly shoegaze sound, while their subsequent album Kodama (2016) marked a return to their earlier blackgaze sound. The band are widely credited with pioneering the blackgaze/post-black metal genre, particularly with their 2005 EP Le secret. All of that plus video reviews of ALCEST - Protection, LORDI - Dead Again Jayne, ALCEST - Flamme Jumelle and GWAR cover "I'm Just Ken".Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

The boys return from a Thanksgiving hiatus for one more album before Death Metal December: The 10th Anniversary Remix & Remaster of Deafheaven's 2013 classic Sunbather.
This week the boys give an overdue listen to Deafheaven's 2021 pivot into straight up shoegaze, Infinite Granite.
The LGBTQ+ heavy metal podcast welcomes Tom's friend (and former guest) Benjamin into the co-host chair for one week only, to discuss how George from Deafheaven and Johannes from Cult Of Luna helped provide the male role models they didn't see elsewhere, and how that helped them come to terms with their gender identity. Also, there's a brief discussion about how a Fever Ray show made Benjamin see some trans parallels (and also what Fever Ray has to do with the metal crowd), and digressions for potato waffles and an infuriating trend amongst hipster hairstyles.Plus there's the usual visit to the Hate Crew Gaybar, where Chrysalis by Finnish heavy psychedelists Polymoon, and A Violent Truth by Kentish shouty/smashy metallers Allfather, both go into the jukebox.
In this episode, we discuss Deafheaven's 2022 album Vertigo, which has been praised by critics for its ethereal blackgaze sound. The album explores themes of loss and redemption, and we discuss how the music reflects these themes. We also talk about the band's influences and how they have helped to shape the blackgaze genre. Finally, Nate and Levi Pair the song with two movies that share these themes. Tune in to find out! CABAL is one of the most brutal and promising heavy acts hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. The band aims to create a visceral and doom-laden atmosphere throughout both their music and visual expression. The production is crystal clear, whilst the songwriting draws inspiration from everything from black-and death metal to djent and hardcore. The young band has since the release of their debut album "Mark of Rot" in 2018 managed to make a name for themselves in both Denmark and the rest of the world by playing renowned festivals like Copenhell, Roskilde Festival, Euroblast Festival and Complexity Fest as well as touring in Europe, Japan and North America. CABAL released the sophomore album "Drag Me Down" in April 2020-a dark descent into a personal hell brought to life by crushing instrumentals, an oppressive atmosphere and dark personal lyrics delivered with relentless intensity, while still leaving room for experimentation and expansion of CABAL's signature sound. Add to this guest appearances from metal titans Trivium's Matt Heafy, rising metalcore stars Polaris' Jamie Hails and Denmark's Blackgaze darlings MOL' Kim Song Sternkopf and there is no doubt that CABAL is a band with friends in every corner of the metal scene. CABAL is now ready to unleash their third and most ambitious album to date "Magno Interitus", in collaboration with the metal label mastodons Nuclear Blast. This album sees CABAL expanding on the foundation they've built with previous releases, but also sees the band experiment more than ever before.

This week we leave you pondering: these genres that can't possibly be real; right? Humans love to organize and put things in categories. Music is no different. When someone asks about a band or song they ask you what it sounds like. You can either give them a generic term (rock, punk, metal), refer to another band or artist, or provide them with an oddly specific categorization like psychedelic operatic speed ska… Or something like that! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This episode deals more with the Lost… Genres and sub-genres that are truly unique and oddly specific. We hope we turn you on to something new!Songs this week include:Dirty Rig – “Just A Star” from Rock Did It (2006)Raging Slab – “The Shield” from Assmaster (1987)Valient Thorr – “Stormstris” from Legend Of The World (2006)Dash Rip Rock – “Jenny Says” from Ace Of Clubs (1989)2 Skinnee J's - “Mind Trick” from ¡$Uper!
No doubt you know how this works by now...team members take turns picking their favorite album from a given month and for August 2021, it was a shoe in for Deafheaven's Infinite Granite (Sargent House) across the board. And, while no one on staff disagreed, not everyone was on the exact same page. Since 2010, Deafheaven have yet to make the same album twice or even close to the same album. The way they transition from black metal to shoegaze has made them critical darlings of a controversy that can never quite get its controversy correct. And now that they've gone full on shoegaze, the internet will never be the same. So it seems. The gang covers Infinite Granite and just how different it is as well as how much it rules, the fact that this might well be their "Opeth" moment, lyrics and how good George Clarke is in writing them as well as their impact over the years with certain team members, spooky season, a huge set of birthdays, and, as always, what else tripped our triggers during the month of August 2021 which features lengthy segments on both BTBAM's Colors II and WITTR's Primordial Arcana, obviously. So, do have a pen and paper on hand. All this and so much more as we dive head first into our eighth AOTM for 2021! So jump in and get an earful!9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
