From the Department of Learning Something New Every Day (or something went MIA from our aging brain): Bill Gates was the brain behind the “content is king” phrase.Alas, we digress. On the latest Gaming News Canada Show, The Parleh's director of creative strategy and partnerships, Kevin Kennedy returned to the podcast for a chin wag about the evolution of content and storytelling in the legal business of online sports betting and igaming. Kennedy, one of the six partners in the creation of The Parleh (and, in the name of transparency, Gaming News Canada is Parleh Media Group owned) almost four years ago, has led the company's work on behalf of OLG, ProLine, Sports Interaction (Entain), Party Casino (Entain), BetMGM, BET99, FanDuel, Betano, NEO.bet, Wildz (Rootz), 888 (Evoke), BetVictor and NorthStar Gaming, since Ontario's open marketplace launched in April 2022. The Parleh has also collaborated with sports organizations such as the Canadian Elite Basketball League and, more recently, The Curling Group, and produces Sports Interaction segments featuring David Bastl on Amazon Prime Video's NHL Coast to Coast broadcasts during the regular season.https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIrbtydPifz/?igsh=aGhhaG96bWV5MXBhWe took Kennedy on a trip down memory lane to the spring/summer of 2021 when he oversaw a deep roster of content creators producing a plethora of video clips from their residences during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fast forward to today, where we discussed the lessons learned along the way, the strategy for managing multiple operators in Ontario, the balance of sports betting and igaming storytelling – including the creation of “streeters” content that is now commonly used in the market – and the growth in online casino content. Influencers of Sponsorship Marketing - a Roth Revenue Podcast
Gavin Roth here with another episode of the Influencers of Sponsorship Marketing, sponsored by Homestand Sports – authentically connecting iGaming brands with sports fans wherever they are. For more, visit homestandsports.com. I love talking to athletes. Especially the successful ones. And no, not in a creepy fan-boy way. When you spend time with elite athletes, you can't help but notice what made them that way – their passion, tenacity, drive, competitiveness, work ethic, self-awareness. Mike Morreale – former CFL star and current Commissioner of the CEBL – checks all those boxes. We caught up just after Labour Day, 3 weeks after the culmination of the CEBL's 2023 campaign – their most successful to date with expansion to 10 teams and a new broadcast deal with TSN. It was also a few days after the CFL Labour Day Classic between the Argos and Ticats. You see… Mike played (and starred) in his share of Labour Day Classics. He actually suited up for both his hometown Tiger-Cats AND their fierce rivals down the QEW. But this year, he had his feet up at home and enjoyed it on the tube. We talk about his days in the CFL where he won 2 Grey Cups and numerous awards. How being a goalkeeper in soccer prepared him for a 12-year career as a receiver in the league. And how his CFL experiences (both as a player and with the CFLPA) set the foundation for his current role running Canada's only professional basketball league. Mike shines a light on Richard Petko and Ron Foxcroft – 2 men whose belief and support helped Mike build a successful second career. He takes us into a week in the life of a pro sports commissioner. On the corporate partnership front, we discuss how Mike and his colleagues had to sell a vision to brands before the first basket was scored. And the partnerships that have been - and will be - so instrumental to the league's success. Including a new one with Canadian data insights firm, StellarAlgo that will help the CEBL engage their fans and partners in a more strategic and effective way. And we wrap with great professional development advice centred around self-awareness and relationships. You'll leave informed and inspired. I hope you enjoy. Daniella Ponticelli, is a pre-and post-game radio host and sideline reporter for the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders games on 620 CKRM. With that, she is the first woman to work on the official Riders radio broadcasts. Additionally, she works contractually for the CFL club to produce written and video content. In Fall 2022, Daniella became the first female play-by-play announcer for USPORTS football, as the full-season radio voice of the University of Regina Rams. She first broke barriers a year earlier, becoming a full-time play-by-play announcer for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's hockey program. The radio broadcasts themselves made history, being the first time a private broadcaster (Pattison Media) committed to a full season of women's hockey in Canada. The team went on to win bronze at national in Charlottetown, P.E.I. Following up on that success, Daniella provided play-by-play and rinkside reporting for several games during the 2021-22 SJHL season, including work in the Finals series. A month later, she co-hosted the 2022 SJHL draft, a three-hour livestreamed event, working closely with teams and the league commissioner. Aside from hockey and football, Daniella also hosted a full season of Rattlers Rundown, a 12-episode weekly television show produced by AccessNow Sports during spring and summer 2022. The one-hour show featured interviews with coaches, players and fellow broadcasters, along with analysis of the Saskatchewan Rattlers and the Canadian Elite Basketball League. Pre-pandemic, Daniella worked as a contract on-floor reporter for Saskatchewan Rush Lacrosse games in Saskatoon, broadcast on B/R Live, until COVID-19 halted the season in March 2020. The season prior, 2018-19, Daniella worked with the club full-time as the host and producer of Rush TV along with in-stand announcer. Working solo, she shot, wrote, edited and produced ten 30-minute episodes showcasing players and coaches, fans and the work of Rush partner businesses. With more than a decade of news experience, Daniella strives to tell stories with accuracy, compassion and context. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Daniella solo anchored Global News Morning in Regina, starting first as the station's community reporter and backfill weather specialist in October 2019. Daniella's versatility stems from her education in the joint Creative Communications degree-diploma program. In 2012, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications from The University of Winnipeg while also completing her journalism diploma from Red River College. As a student, Daniella freelanced and took on various embedding opportunities with The Canadian Forces, even taking her to the Northwest Territories. She continued writing military stories as the resident CFB Shilo reporter/photographer for the Brandon Sun out of university. Working professionally ever since, Daniella has gained experience in print, broadcast and digital-first newsrooms. The summer of 2019, she worked casually as a videographer, web writer and social media presenter for CBC Saskatchewan, while also joining the MaxTron video crew as a camera operator at Mosaic Stadium. She was a senior web editor and reporter/anchor for Rawlco Radio in Saskatoon and Regina from 2016-2018. Before that, she worked in television news as a video journalist for CTV Winnipeg and a host/producer for Shaw TV Saskatoon, as well as a print reporter for the Winnipeg Sun. #daniellaponticelli #saskatchewanroughriders #livewithcdp #podcast #talkshow #guest #reginarams #sidelinereporter #playbyplayannouncer #canadianfootballleague #620CKRM #regina #saskatchewanhuskies #womenshockey #youtubechannel #facebooklive #twitter #audio #applepodcasts #googlepodcasts #spotify #anchorfm #iheartradio #amazonmusic #tunein #stitcher #breaker #pocketcasts #radiopublic #linkedin #castbox #barrycullenchevrolet #sponsor

In Episode 1191, Sean Woodley goes solo to answer a boat load of mailbag questions about the Toronto Raptors. Off the top, Sean examines whether or not Gary Trent Jr. is in fact too expensive to bring him off the bench despite Sean's declared stance that he should be the sixth man going into next season. Next, Sean assembles a starting five of players on the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays, discusses whether or not the Raptors actually need to prioritize the center position at all this summer, and some interesting talents plying their trade in the Canadian Elite Basketball League who could potentially be NBA contributors, perhaps even for the Raptors! Lastly, Sean digs deep into a question about Toronto's defensive identity, and whether a switch to a more conservative scheme is in order considering the one-on-one defense talent the roster oozes with, and the surprisingly decent half court offense Toronto cobbled together last season, perhaps suggesting a dependence on transition buckets isn't so necessary. On episode 160 I am joined by Nick Elam, Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at Ball State University and creator of the Elam Ending, a new basketball format. Nick Elam, Ph.D. is a career-long educator. He prepares aspiring school leaders to serve in the field. Elam previously served as a school principal and math teacher. Along the way, Elam has served in a variety of roles in the sports world. In 2007, Nick devised a new format for basketball, whereby the final portion of the game would be played without a game clock as a way to preserve a more natural and exciting style of play. After years of researching and promoting this concept, the Elam Ending was finally implemented for the first time by TBT: The Basketball Tournament in 2017. Since then, the Elam Ending has grown rapidly throughout the basketball world, being implemented at the NBA All-Star Game, Canadian Elite Basketball League, and dozens of grassroots-level leagues and events. Dr. Elam has shared his research and story in over 300 outlets, including schools, businesses, academic conferences, written articles, and podcast/radio/TV programs. Mike Morreale, a 12 year CFL veteran, and Commissioner of the Canadian Elite Basketball League joins us this week on the Tidal League Podcast. Mike talks about what the League has done to prepare for, and the innovative ways they plan to engage fans in, this new world. Mike shares how the League was created; bringing together Canadian elite players with international pro basketball players, the challenges they’ve overcome, always believing that being afraid to fail cannot be an option for something like this to succeed. We hear why they have adopted the “first to a point” system in the fourth quarter and other creative ways they are moving the game forward including the partnership with U Sports allowing student athletes to play at a professional level and stay in school, creating a new basketball experience both on and off the court. Mike’s insights and stories about the game we love are just in time for the Summer Series tip off on July 25.
