Tyler, the Creator has won the Best Rap Album award at the 2022 Grammys for Call Me If You Get Lost. He scored his second win in the category (following Igor in 2020) ahead of fellow nominees Nas (King's Disease II), J. Cole (The Off-Season), and Kanye West (Donda). (Drake pulled out of the category, withdrawing Certified Lover Boy from consideration in December 2021.) Tyler posted his acceptance speech via an Instagram story following his win. “First off, I'm hyped,” he said. “Thank you to DJ Drama. You are fucking so important to rap music.… Thank you to all of my friends for being my cheerleaders.” He also thanked his team for letting him “make an album where [he] can just flex all goddamn day.” He added: “I know you're seething and angry and, ‘Argh, no one listens to that album.' These arena tours that are selling out says different. And if you put that much energy into something maybe everyone will be proud of you, too.” Tyler, the Creator was nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance this year (for “WusYaName”), but the award ultimately went to Kanye West for “Hurricane.” Follow all of Pitchfork's coverage of the 2022 Grammys. source: Tyler, the Creator Wins Best Rap Album for Call Me If You Get Lost at the 2022 Grammys | Pitchfork --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/masseffect/support

Thanks for listening! New season inbound! Tell your friends!

Jungle Beats is about creatively sharing our love for music/hiphop with energy, positivity and passion. We started this in 2015 with a weekly hiphop show on a radio station in Melbourne, Australia. In August 2016 we decided to create Jungle Beats Media. To us, Australia doesn't have a strong hiphop identity within culture. Who do you think of when you think hiphop in Australia? Most think of people OUTSIDE of this country. Maybe we can change that in some small way and push it forward. JBM is side hustle of ours, so it's not going to be perfect. It's gonna be haphazard, crazy, and we're gonna mess up. But that's music, and we love it.

In this episode Isabella plays J Cole. He doesn't need any introduction but J Cole has just released his first solo album since KOD back in 2018. It is much anticipated, it generated one of the biggest buzz of this year within hip hop and there is even a little documentary that showcases the making of the album and J Coles positioning as a rapper as well as his own expectations. If you haven't heard the new album yet, let's listen to some of his old stuff too.

It's been over 1,000 days without a J. Cole solo project, but now the North Carolina rapper returns with his new album, The Off-Season. On Friday (May 14), Cole unleashed his first solo offering since 2018's KOD album. The Dreamville Records head honcho comes through with 12 songs including the previously released "Interlude." On the production side, Cole taps Timbaland, Boi-1da, DJ Dahi, Jake One and more. The LP has uncredited features from Lil Baby, 21 Savage and Morray on the song "My Life," which finds Morray singing a sample of Pharoahe Monch's rhymes from the 2002 track "The Life" with Styles P. Cole officially announced on May 4 that the LP would be dropping with an announcement shared to Instagram and Twitter. "My new album The Off-Season available 5/14. Just know this was years in the making," he wrote in the caption for his album artwork, which features himself standing next to an inflamed basketball hoop. The fiery court Cole is standing near could be metaphorically linked to the basketball themes the rhymer has used for past projects like The Warm Up, Friday Night Lights and The Sideline Story.
