Azul, the only company 100% focused on Java, has announced that the integrated risk management practices for its OpenJDK solutions fully support the stability, resilience and integrity requirements in meeting the European Union's Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) provisions. With the upcoming DORA enforcement deadline of January 17, 2025, quickly approaching, thousands of EU financial organisations and companies around the world with business in the EU must act quickly to ensure their IT infrastructure meets stringent new operational resilience standards that potentially require significant time investments to fulfill. DORA's primary goal is to enhance the digital resilience of financial entities, mitigate risks associated with Information and Communications Technology (ICT) risks and ensure that financial entities can withstand, respond to, and recover from all types of ICT-related disruption. This includes risks from ICT service providers that deliver digital and data services through ICT systems to internal or external users; it also includes hardware services and technical support via software updates. Java is the programming language of choice for the Financial Services industry. According to the 2022 FINOS State of Open Source in Financial Services report, 51% of the code within the financial services data set is written in Java. Navigating the Complexities of Digital Operational Resilience Azul's comprehensive long-term support (LTS) Java versions ensure stability and ongoing security updates - including updates for older Java versions like versions 6 and 7 - crucial for maintaining operational resilience under regulatory scrutiny. The company's security features, comprehensive testing and compatibility with modern architectures and cloud environments provide a secure and scalable Java platform. With a proven track record in stability, reliability, and security, Azul's Java solutions help customers meet the requirements of DORA. The DORA regulation represents a significant shift in how financial institutions must approach their digital operational resilience, with non-compliance resulting in corporate fines of up to 2% of annual turnover and potential fines for individuals up to €1,000,000. This extensive regulation affects not only EU financial entities but also global organisations with EU operations or business relationships and third-party service providers. Azul's DORA Assessment Results According to Crucyble, the information security consulting firm that evaluated and assessed Azul's DORA-related risk management practices: "Azul has made considerable efforts to comply with the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA) EU by implementing a robust governance framework, risk management protocols, incident response capabilities, and third-party risk management strategies. Through continuous monitoring, regular testing, including penetration tests, and comprehensive plans for ICT resilience and recovery, Azul demonstrates a strong commitment to ensuring operational continuity and resilience. "The company is actively addressing the requirements of DORA EU to support its financial customers in maintaining operational integrity and security. Azul's proactive stance ensures it is well-equipped to meet the evolving challenges of ICT risk management and digital operational resilience, reinforcing its readiness to support customers in complying with the DORA EU framework." Azul's offering includes: Fully supported, OpenJDK distributions (Azul Platform Core and Azul Platform Prime) that ensure timely security updates and patches. Stabilised security-only updates across all Java versions, operating systems and architectures. Continuous vulnerability monitoring and accelerated remediation response time with Azul Intelligence Cloud. Expert guidance and support for migration from unsupported OpenJDK distributions. Philippe Vogeleer is a chartered director specialized in partnerships between companies, governments, and international organizations. Until March 2024 he was the Global Head of Corporate Business Development for Vodafone. Prior to joining Vodafone, Philippe held senior positions for Ooredoo, Orange, and Deloitte. He has lived in 10 countries and worked in more than 100. He holds a master's degree in law, a master's degree in media and communications, and an Executive MBA. Philippe now advises a small number of companies as Non-Executive Director and supports the work of international charities, including Global Citizen. He is also a Visiting Lecturer at INSEAD. We start our conversation by learning about Philippe's international background, his early interest in human development, and how he discovered the importance of mobile phones and satellite technology. We then take a stroll through the decades with Philippe highlighting the big business opportunities for the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector in each time period - from radio waves in the 1980s and 90s, to networks and services in the 2000s and 2010s. He also reminds us that most people don't have a laptop, accessing digital tools only on mobile phones, and that today's opportunity lies in bringing access to the devices.   We then shift to discussing how we can define the ICT sector and what we mean by digitalization. Also, we ask Philippe to help us understand what fragility looks like on the ground, from an ICT perspective, and how the ICT industry and digitalization can help counter fragility. This leads us to talk about what is needed to build a business case in fragile states or even in conflict areas, how you can engage external partners, and how to convince internal decision makers to take on the risk of investing under more difficult conditions. We also discuss the benefits of digitalization for governments, the main obstacles to closing the digital divide, and the role of AI in digitalization. We wrap up our conversation by considering the finite nature of money, how it can best catalyze digitalization, and the potential future for the ICT industry. Noting how the shift bring to realisation of a “computer” in our palms and concepts such as “software as a service”, he said these transformations contribute to a trend from on-premises solutions to cloud-based applications. These changes in turn have driven demands for centralisation of services in the cloud, leading to the growth of data centres, and the rise of hyperscalers.Other topics discussed include:1. The impact of AI on the tech industry, and the significance of AI in the context of AI vs. AI scenarios.2. Location considerations for data centres (factors such as power availability, water supply for cooling, and connectivity infrastructure being key considerations); sustainability in data centres (including energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources).3. Cybersecurity as a holistic approach to digital trust, which goes beyond just technology and involves governance, data management, and privacy considerations.Mr Wong wrapped up the interview by sharing how the tech industry's perpetual evolution change keep him passionately engaged throughout his career – and the promise of groundbreaking change, making each day a thrilling journey of discovery.Recorded at Tech Week 2023, 12th October 2023, 4pm, Singapore Marina Bay Sands.#mysecuritytv

In today's program my guest says, “The Information Age technocentric concept of being “connected” is an illusion causing us to lose our instinctual drives for social cohesion, allegiance, and selflessness. As our dependency upon Information and Communications Technology [ICT] grows, the less we care for our neighbors and the more we delude ourselves into thinking that online connections are far more valuable than reality-based relationships.”Michael Nuccitelli is a NYS licensed psychologist, cyberpsychology researcher and online safety educator.
