Internet addiction may not be as bad as some other forms of addiction, but it's more common (and more personal). I have young children now and wanted to learn more about it, so I included some questions in last year's ACX survey. The sample was 5,981 ACX readers (obviously non-random in terms of Internet use level!). I don't think the results were very helpful, but I post them here for the sake of completeness. https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/indulge-your-internet-addiction-by

You probably know the video game Tetris, perhaps you've even played it, but have you ever thought about it as therapy? Claudia Hammond talks to Professor Emily Holmes from Uppsala University, about her work using Tetris as a psychological intervention for unwanted memories. During the pandemic many ICU workers found they were experiencing intrusive memories about the traumatic events they had experienced. Prof Holmes and her colleague, consultant clinical psychologist Dr Julie Highfield, ran a trial offering Tetris therapy to ICU workers and showed they could reduce intrusive memories significantly.Next, you may have seen headlines this week suggesting that teenage brains could be worryingly and irrevocably changed by excessive internet use. It is the latest in a recent surge of concern about teenagers' relationship to technology. Claudia and studio guest, Sarah king from Sussex University, dig into the research and discover that the evidence isn't as worrying as the headlines make it sound. And do you have a secret? Apparently most of us do and we can't resist thinking about them even though that rumination can impact our wellbeing. Claudia discusses the psychology of secrets with Dr Michael Slepian from Columbia University in New York. Gary Small, a leading medical expert on memory and brain fitness, visits Google to discuss his book iBrain: Surviving the Technological Alteration of the Modern Mind. Never before has one generation experienced such rapid change in the brain's underlying wiring system, and the full consequences of this evolution has yet to be fully explored until now. Gary explores the remarkable evolution of the human brain caused by today's constant technological presence. The book separates the digital natives from the digital immigrants, and suggests that the Internet—with its virtually limitless wealth of news and information—is radically altering the way young minds are developing and functioning. In this era of social media, Gary Small's iBrain is an important guide to understanding the astonishing impact of this new brain evolution on our society and our future, as well as a warning of its potential dangers—increased mental illness, social isolation, Internet addiction, and more. Then one day a single discovery turned into a string of discoveries that eventually unveiled a 10-year cybersex addiction that was costing $50,000 a year. She felt like she no longer knew the man she'd married. The loss of trust brought up so many complicated emotions and eventually panic attacks. It didn't feel like there was any chance of saving the marriage. The only thing that made her stay was her husband's complete admission and his true desire to change. It was that moment that started a journey of recovery for both of them that involved many difficult and uncomfortable conversations, therapy and even work with a polygraph machine. Today, their marriage is better than it's ever been with continued hard work and honesty even when the work feels like it should be done.Episode ResourcesConnect with KyleneInstagram | @kyleneterhuneTikTok | @kyleneterhuneConnect with The Courage to ChangePodcast Website | lionrock.life/couragetochangepodcastPodcast Instagram | @couragetochange_podcastYouTube | The Courage to Change PodcastTikTok | @ashleyloebblassingamePodcast Email | podcast@lionrock.lifePodcast Facebook | @thecouragetochangepodcastLionrock ResourcesLionrock Life Mobile App | lionrock.life/mobile-appSupport Group Meeting Schedule | lionrock.life/meetings

But then I quit fapping and realized these benefits: ✔ Tired → More energy. I used to feel tired all the time. But after quitting PMO, I reclaimed my energy. ✔ Self-hatred → Loving life. I hated myself for being weak and sleeping my porn secretive. But I broke free and now live a good life that I enjoy. ✔ Anxious → More confidence. I used to have a lot of insecurities and porn only made them worse. By stopping porn, I increased my confidence. ✔ Feeling dead → Heightened senses. My senses were dulled before getting rid of PMO. But after I was free, I felt that my senses heightened. ✔ Unmotivated → Making more money. Excessive fapping used to kill my motivation. I quit it and found the motivation to move from a third-world country to Canada at the age of 36. ✔ Lonely → Getting a girlfriend. I felt very lonely and thought porn would help but it only made things worse. When I quit PMO, I got a girlfriend and felt real love. ✔ Brain fog → Better concentration & creativity. Overstimulating myself with porn caused brain fog. I went NoFap and reclaimed my cognitive performance. ✔ Worsening health → Better hair, skin, memory, and erection. I noticed that my erection wasn't strong enough. I quit fapping and stopped myself from developing erectile dysfunction. I got my morning wood back. ✔ Insomnia → Better sleep, vivid dreams. My sleep used to be irregular because of PMO. After quitting, my REM and deep sleep improved. I have more willpower because I sleep well. ✔ Weak → Stronger. On NoFap, I saw my gym results improve and I felt physically stronger. You don't have to make my mistakes all over again, destroying your brain and life. Quit porn and excessive fapping now and get the same benefits that I did. ---------------------------------------------- COMPANION BLOG POST https://romanmironov.com/nofap-benefits/ ---------------------------------------------- OTHER VIDEOS YOU MIGHT LIKE:

In today's program my guest says, “The Information Age technocentric concept of being “connected” is an illusion causing us to lose our instinctual drives for social cohesion, allegiance, and selflessness. As our dependency upon Information and Communications Technology [ICT] grows, the less we care for our neighbors and the more we delude ourselves into thinking that online connections are far more valuable than reality-based relationships.”Michael Nuccitelli is a NYS licensed psychologist, cyberpsychology researcher and online safety educator. In 2009, Dr. Nuccitelli finalized his dark side of cyberspace concept called iPredator. Since 2010, he has advised those seeking information about cyberbullying, cyberstalking, cybercriminal minds and internet addiction. https://ipredator.co/michael-nuccitelli/ http://www.yourlotandparcel.org

How are We Supposed to Stay Healthy When We're Literally Ministering in Addictive Spaces? Internet Addiction is actually a thing. So wait, we're trying to do ministry, we're trying to be the church, in digital- and metaverse- spaces... and evidently these areas are addictive. How do we do ministry in areas that can damage ourselves? How do we minister to those that are damaged? The more complex these technologies become, the more we need to respect and understand the scope of the battlefield. What does the Armor of God look like in digital & metaverse spaces. This is the conversation we're having today. Can damage happen to us in digital and metaverse spaces? Of course! Could damage happen to the bible runners that smuggled the gospel behind the iron curtain, or even biblically when the disciples stood up against Rome? Carrying our cross can look different in the metaverse, but how do we prepare ourselves for the battle? What Does the Armor of God Look Like for Digital- and Metaverse- Churches? These are just some of the questions Jeff and Chris Caputo start digging into. There are challenges in digital and metaverse spaces. This doesn't mean we give up! This means we work through and discover how to prepare, which is what we're starting right here in this podcast. So jump on this conversation where Jeff & Chris start digging into how to combat Internet Addictions while doing digital ministry!
