On Monday night, the Red Sox snapped their 7-game winning streak after a 7-2 loss to their division rival, the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of a 3-game series. Since the game was in Toronto, Jarren Duran and Tanner Houck couldn't travel due to their vaccination status so Red Sox prospect Connor Seabold had to be called up, which didn't go how the Red Sox planned. Seabold ended up allowing three home runs off the stacked Blue Jays lineup which led to seven total runs over 4.2 innings. Massachusetts Pirates Team Insider Jake Ignaszewski broke down everything that happened in Monday's loss and looked into some positives that came out of Seabold's tough outing. Then he went into how the Red Sox bats performed and why the offense couldn't produce run support for Seabold. Luckily the Sox still have two more games in this series to make up for this loss, so Iggy went into the pitching matchup for tomorrow's game.Lastly, Iggy gave injury updates on Chris Sale, Josh Taylor, Garrett Whitlock, etc as well as read your thoughts on the game from Twitter.Follow us on Twitter! @lo_redsox & @lalalalaurrrren & @jakeiggySupport us by supporting our sponsors!Blue NileToday's episode is brought to you by Blue Nile. Bob Osgood (@BobOsgood15) and Shelly Verougstraete (@shellyv_643) were honored to have the great Ian Cundall (@IanCundall) from SoxProspects.com to discuss the draft and what is going on the minor leagues. We start of the episode with Marcelo Mayer talk. Did Ian think we had a chance to snag him with the fourth overall pick? Also, was the draft more unpredictable due to 2020 and the lack of looks? We also discuss the chances of signing a couple of Florida Gators and why did Niko Kavadas fall to the Sox in the 11th round? Of course, there is some Chris Sale and Connor Seabold discussion. But what are Ian's thoughts on Chris Murphy and Jay Groome going forward? Well, you will just have to tune in. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
It's late July, which means both the MLB trade deadline and the draft signing deadline are approaching? Will the Red Sox trade for a first baseman? Will they sign Jud Fabian? Will we be able to keep the two deadlines straight? It's always a question as things get hectic on the player acquisition front! Chris and Ian talked about both pending deadlines as well as (finally) the AAA debut of Connor Seabold, another round of promotions led by Kutter Crawford, and your emails!
Bob Osgood (@BobOsgood15) and Shelly Verougstraete (@shellyv_643) are here to discuss the 2021 MLB Draft and what a crazy draft it was. In the last episode, we had "our guys" that we wanted the Red Sox to pick at #4 but as luck would have it, our overall number one player was still available at number 4. We still cannot believe we were able to draft Marcelo Mayer at four! The Sox were able to snag some really great talent throughout the draft and we discuss some players to keep your eyes on. Not to bury the lede but Jaren Duran was set to make his debut against the New York Yankees before a COVID outbreak canceled the Thursday night game. It was not only Duran that was making he way back to Fenway. Tanner Houck is set to begin his season in the bullpen before transitioning to a starter's role going forward. Also, Chris Sale and Connor Seabold made rehab starts; their first starts since their injuries. Whew, so much has happened in one week. Learn more about your ad choices. The 2021 draft is in the books and Chris and Ian are back to cover the entire slate of selections… BUT FIRST, AN EMERGENCY ADDENDUM! Jarren Duran received the call to New York to join the Red Sox for his first MLB call-up. Chris and Ian hopped back on to discuss what they expect from the system's second-ranked prospect, what other moves might be coming, and what this means for the Red Sox lineup. That out of the way, they review the latest round of promotions and other news from the system. They break down the extension Matt Barnes signed and talk about Connor Seabold's eagerly anticipated system debut. The guys also talk about which other players have been tabbed to play in the Olympics and their impressions from the Futures Game. Then Chris and Ian talk through all the day 2 and 3 picks the Red Sox made. Red Sox come up just short of a sweep but win three against Baltimore! Garrett Richards pitches seven strong, and Nick Pivetta is STILL undefeated at 5-0! Bullpen continues to look shaky, who do you trust outside of Matt Barnes? Connor Seabold and Tanner Houck both shutdown due to elbow issues! How concerning is this? Could it pave the way for an early Rodriguez extention? Jason makes a case for Albert Pujols! And MUCH MUCH more!!! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
