This second part of the monthly new release series probably should have been titled after the final song of the show. Former Blackhearts guitarist Ricky Byrd’s “RnR’s Demise (Has Been Greatly Exaggerated)” certainly matches the philosophy of The Ledge, and the fact that month after month we provide over four hours of newly issued tunes is certainly proof. Again, we have a number of “friends of the show”, including White Rose Motor Oil, New Brutarians, Geoff Palmer, and a whole set of tracks from Rum Bar Records. There’s also the return of The Memories, The Minus 5, and Throwing Muses, along with new bands (at least to us) such as The Roxies, Midlife Crisis, Dead Bars, and Creem Circus (love the name, btw). Also, just a note that due to an upcoming medical procedure there will be now show next week (and possibly the following week). We're often told to take omega-3 supplements, especially as vegans. And non-vegans are often told to take fish oil. But are these recommendations backed by peer-reviewed science? Geoff Palmer is here to do some serious myth-busting. We also delve into meat and masculinity: why are they often linked in our society? How can we get more men on board with veganism? Geoff Palmer is a 61-year-strong, 39-year vegan, natural bodybuilding and natural physique masters champion, the owner of Clean Machine Plant-Based Fitness Nutrition, author, national lecturer, vegan patent holder and 2-time NEXTY Winner for "Best Supplement of the Year”. Geoff was #40 of the "Top 100 Most Influential Vegans" by Plant Based News, and he created the first 100% vegan natural bodybuilding competition in the world.
Ten inch records are the forgotten treasures of my library. They’re housed in a little side section of my entertainment center, and most are rarely touched. This is why a couple of weeks ago I decided to have a marathon listening session of those very records. These sort of releases generally form a handful of different types of material. They can be extended singles filled with previously unreleased bonus tracks (Guided By Voices, Jesus & Mary Chain). They can be rarities collections of b-sides or outtakes (The Clash, Bad Brains). Or they can be fully-fledged brand new releses (Geoff Palmer & Lucy Ellis, The Coolies). Plus, this theme allows me to celebrate the 11th year anniversary of the reunion of The Replacements! Songs For Slim came out on March 5, 2013, and this obviously led to their hitting the road a year later. Topping off their set, I also included the cover of “Route 66” that was the highlight of their 1987 “Alex Chilton” EP. Thanks also must go to various folks that had suggestions for tonight’s show, including the band White Rose Motor Oil, who contributed the tracks of the last set of tonight’s broadcast.

Once again, there’s so much great music being released each and every week that this month’s new release show is a two-part extravaganza! Part one is admittedly heavy on the power pop – Uni Boys, The Speedways, The Len Price 3, and many others. There’s also twin blasts from rock and roll buddies Geoff Palmer and Brad Marino, along with tracks from their friends in the Rum Bar Records family. I could go on and on about what’s included in this episode, but why don’t you just dive in and discover your new faves! As for this week’s “52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks” segment, I have another unknown treat that I discovered on YouTube. This version is from “The Pauline”, and about all I have found out about this artist is that they hail from Indonesia. I’d love to know more about this musician! Like I do every week, however, I must again plead with y’all for more versions of “Teenage Kicks”. If you are a musician, or have any contact with artists that could record their own take on the classic, please contact me! For more info, including setlists, head to http://scotthudson.blogspot.com

The Ledge has always been known to enjoy music from all over the world. This month’s new release episode, however, goes ever further than usual. Yes, we have new tunes from many of the usual suspects – Canada, Australia, England, Sweden, etc. But this month we expand that a little bit and have tunes from Indonesia and Japan! (Ok, Japanese rock and roll is not so unusual in these parts, but you get the picture.) There’s also the usual mix of long-awaited returns (Uni Boys, Wreckless Eric), and new (at least to me) artists such as Hurry, Young Francis Hi Fi, and Dennis Cometti. There’s a set devoted to a trio of solo artists who have shared the stage countless times over the years (Brad Marino, Geoff Palmer, and Kurt Baker), and who always seem to have new records right around the same time. We also have a sneak peak of the upcoming Replacements box set, Tim: Let It Bleed Edition. The “cello version” of “Can’t Hardly Wait” was actually a Paul Westerberg demo with Twin/Tone secretary Michelle Kinney on cello. The box set comes out on September 22, and as you may imagine, I…ok, I won’t go with the obvious […]

He played in a ton of New England punk bands. He did time in your favorite '90s pop punk bands, The Queers and Nobodys. He covered the entire Dee Dee King album. Be sure to ask yourself, “Am I resisting this [science] because I don't want it to be true?” That's where we need to start the conversation. I'm not out to change anybody. I'm out to help people. And people aren't seeing that difference right now. -Geoff PalmerEvery time I speak with today's guest, Geoff Palmer, which is relatively often given that he is a dear friend, I leave the conversation feeling so deeply connected, not only to him, but also to myself, my own purpose, and to the Universe if I'm totally honest. You'll hear it mentioned in the interview, so I'll fill you in here… A few months ago, Geoff and his amazing wife Vanessa traveled to Hogs & Kisses Farm Sanctuary for our annual barn warming anniversary fundraiser. They stayed in the sanctuary's BnB and Geoff was the guest speaker for a crowd of mostly omnivores who were moved by his story and inspired by the wisdom that he shared during his talk. After the event we stayed up late chatting about many of the topics that he and I cover in this episode, and it left my cup feeling so full, which is why I wanted to have him on the show so you all could be a part of this incredibly valuable discussion!A few of the topics we dive into:Geoff's extraordinary journey of awakening after experiencing devastating loss that led him to attempt to take his own life. How the World Vegan Bodybuilding Championship, founded by Geoff, is helping shape a new future, and shift the stereotypes around veganism and masculinity.Science proving that humans are herbivores (fascinating!).The root of resistance to change, particularly when it comes to our eating habits. So much more!VIEW THE FULL SHOW NOTES AND GUEST BIO & LINKS HERE Listen to Geoff's Interview on The Vegan Life Coach Podcast Here--------------------------------------SPONSORED BYClean Machine (Geoff's supplement company): Use code PLANT10 for 10% off your first order.22REBOOT - The most comprehensive 22-day lifestyle transformation system designed for driven individuals and high-performing entrepreneurs, professionals, and leaders who are making waves with their work, while neglecting the one asset they can'tLET'S CONNECT!

Geoff shares his inspiring journey of becoming vegan over 38 years ago, at a time when there was limited information and resources available. Geoff Palmer, CEO and Founder of Clean Machine, is a professional bodybuilder and credits his health to his vegan lifestyle – something he's done since the mid 1980s. With three decades of experience in the natural foods and supplements industry under his belt, Palmer has spent many of those years exploring the world of omega nutrition. Through his research, he says the mainstream omega narrative isn't correct and he's challenging the status quo on preformed EPA/DHA.

To look at Geoff Palmer today, there is no obvious trace of a troubled background. Yet, at one point, Geoff lived in a private prison of a dark depression with no apparent way out. Just three days before his 18th birthday, Geoff Palmer's father, whom he had a very close relationship with, passed on. This was the start of descending into an emotional bottom. Soon after, Geoff's mother and brother passed away taking him deeper into what he describes as a dark hole. Finding solace in drugs and alcohol, Goeff thought of taking his life almost daily. He felt as if he was merely existing with no clear purpose or direction. A chance meeting with a man who became a mentor to Geoff, turned his life around. As if a light switch were turned on, Geoff's addictions disappeared, and his zest for life transformed from the dark hole of depression to one where he gained clarity on his life's purpose. His transformation included going from a meat eater to one of having no desire to consume animals in any form. “I realized I could never hurt animals again and became 100% plant-based instantly,” Geoff states. “I also saw a connection to depression and putting dead energy into my body.” Embracing a new way of life, Geoff knew his existence was about service. During this episode of the Health Science Podcast, Dr. Sabatino unpacks Geoff's journey from feeling lost and alone to being one of the most recognized influencers in the plant-based world, especially for those who have a passion for bodybuilding and fitness. Together, Dr. Sabatino and Geoff Palmer explore meditation, to supplement or not, the spiritual side of eating a plant-based lifestyle and how to get past the dogma of beliefs that keep people sick. As the founder of a 100% plant-based company, Geoff pulls back the covers on what his life was like before becoming a voice for the plant-exclusive lifestyle and after.

Geoff Palmer (The Connection, The New Trocaderos, Kurt Baker Band,...) rinde tributo a Dee Dee King, alter ego rapero del bajista de Ramones, grabando una personal versión del álbum “Standing in the spotlight”. Aquel disco de 1989, tan odiado por unos como apreciado por otros, fue una singular anomalía en el universo Ramone. Geoff lo reivindica con un sonido más guitarrero y apostando por incrementar el poder de sus melodías. As I have stated quite often during these cover tune broadcasts, I have a special folder where I place remakes as I come across them. Once that folder is full, it’s time to do a show. This time around, that folder grew at a pretty rapid pace. Of course I’m going to air Ultrabomb’s version of “Sonic Reducer”. I don’t think anybody is surprised by the inclusion of “Borstal Breakdown” from that new live Replacements album. But many may be shocked by the inclusion of two tracks from the 1968 collaboration between Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood. Honestly, I had never heard these bonkers tunes until one day I hung out in my friend’s record store. Seriously, that version of “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” is something everybody should check out. But what made it essential that I do this theme this very week are two special records that arrived a few days ago. The first is All The Covers (And More) by The Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs. Released on September 30 on Rum Bar Records, this 38 track compilation gathers together all of the remakes the band has recorded in their 25 year history. The other is the latest project by Geoff Palmer. Standing In […]

Once again, the wealth of new material being released each and every month “forces” me to expand my new release episode into a two part series. Tonight’s episode focuses primarily on “friends” of the show. Bands that have so nicely regularly sent their new projects to The Ledge. Great labels such as Rum Bar Records, Dirtnap Records, and Stardumb Records. Fabulous Minneapolis artists such as The Right Here, Night Jobs, and UltraBomb. The latest covers project by Geoff Palmer. Plus some of the other great new tunes by longtime faves Ty Segall, Osees, and The Sadies, mixed with some new band discoveries (Gentleman Rogues, The Sparklers). One note, however. At the very end of the show I introduce a track by Dust Star. Unfortunately, my broadcast machine decided to air The Rubs. Still, a quality selection but I’ll have to save Dust Star for next week. I would love it if every listener bought at least one record I played on either of these shows. These great artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, and every purchase surely helps not only pay their bills but fund their next set of wonderful songs. And if you buy these records […]
