What does it look like cultivate an "awake soul" with room to expand? Today I'm thrilled to speak to Julia Ubbenga about her new book Declutter Your Heart and Your Home: How a Minimalist Life Yields Maximum Joy. Our journeys to a simpler, more intentional life can be influenced by many things - including books, podcasts, our faith, other thought traditions, and more. Today I have the pleasure of speaking to my friend Diane Boden from the top-rated podcast, Minimalist Moms, where she spreads her ideas and interviews in regards to living a life in the pursuit of less. For more than a decade, Diane's goal has been simple to think more and do with less. Her journey has incorporated aspects of her Christian faith, as well as nature, Stoicism, Buddhism, and other faith traditions and philosophies to help her live a more intentional life. We talk about our guilty pleasure Love Is Blind, as well as the importance of discomfort and boredom, as well as the values we've imparted onto our children due to a simpler, more minimal lifestyle. Diane has been featured on other popular podcasts: The Spillover with Alex Clark, The Mom Hour, Find the Magic, With Intention, and many others. She has also been featured in Simplify Magazine in March 2023. Her first book Minimalist Moms: Living and Parenting with Simplicity released in March 2021. When people think of "minimalism," they often imagine an elusive, picture-perfect room straight out of Pinterest or a wardrobe limited to a capsule collection. But, as Whitney's guest Desirae Endres, the host of The Minimal-ish Podcast, reveals, minimalism is all about cutting through the noise and clutter to make space for what truly counts in life. And this is especially true for summer time when we feel pressured to fill our entire schedules with activities and things to do with our kids.   In their conversation, Desirae breaks down the four pillars of 'minimal-ish' living: reducing the stuff in our lives, aligning our daily actions with our core values, clearing the mental clutter, and striving for contentment. Whitney and Desirae explore how to put these principles into action to craft a summer that's both memorable and deeply satisfying, particularly for families.   Desirae offers practical tips for planning summer adventures, finding joy in the every day, and staying present without succumbing to the pressure to overdo it. She also shares strategies for creating a 'more and less' list to prioritize meaningful activities and reminds us to question the motivations driving our choices.   Here's what you can look forward to in today's episode: Defining minimal-ish living The 4 pillars of minimal-ish living How to plan a minimal-ish summer that is still full of memories Romanticizing summer days What Desirae has gained from living a more minimal-ish lifestyle Reflection question to ponder: Why do I feel like I need to be doing this? ‌ If you enjoyed this episode, then you will love: Episode 45 - Mini Jolt: The Benefits of an Energy Audit Episode 74 - Doing More with Less: Decluttering to Clear Space for What You Love with Katy Wells Episode 110 - How Your Home Reflects the Life You're Creating with Sara Ann Kostelnik ‌ Connect with Whitney: Instagram l Website l Free 5-Minute Guided Meditation l Electric Ideas Podcast Connect with Desirae: Instagram | Website | Podcast

The term “minimalism” can be a turnoff to those who think that it's legalistic, restrictive, or requires that you only own a certain amount of stuff. But minimalism has many facets, and it's a tool that can help you live a more intentional, peaceful life. In this episode I'm joined again by Desirae Endres from the popular podcast Minimal-ish. We chat about how to make minimalism your own, and what she sees are the four pillars of minimalism. Desirae is a wife, mom to two girls, and the host of the Minimal-ish podcast where she talks about all things realistic minimalism, motherhood, and intentional living. In 2018, Desirae and her husband set out to live with less clutter in their home. Soon she found that the journey to less was about so much more than a clutter-free home. Desirae believes that a less cluttered life is where the idea of minimalism really makes a difference- a life focused on more of what matters, and less of what doesn‘t. She is passionate about sharing her journey and walking alongside podcast listeners towards a less cluttered, more intentional life.   Resources Mentioned:   Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things   Simple Morning Lists   Your Minimal-ish Holidays   Connect with Desirae on her podcast, her website, Instagram, or check out her free resource Making Room Related Episodes:   Episode 29: Embracing Kids' Messes (Without Going Crazy) with Desirae Endres from Minimal-ish   Episode 54: How to Simplify, Minimize, and Thrive - Even with a Chronic Illness - with Ali Cornish from Everthrive   Episode 122: How Minimalism and Mindfulness Support Emotional Regulation and Mitigate PMDD Symptoms - with Diane deJesus   *** I help moms declutter their homes, heads, and hearts. Let's talk about decluttering and minimalism --  I know I used to have a weird relationship with the term “minimalism” because I used to attach it with guilt and lots of rules. Years ago I watched a documentary on Netflix called "Minimalism" and immediately purged my entire home because I felt so terrible about how I was living.Obviously, it didn't last because I approached it from a fear-based mindset. I'm sure a lot of others have kind of written off minimalism as “not for them” for similar reasons so I want to set the record straight and talk about a REALISTIC version of minimalism and how it can help you live a peacefully productive life so I brought the host of the Minimal-ish Podcast on to help us out!Desirae is a mom to two littles and the host of the Minimal-ish podcast. When you have so much stuff in your home, where do you even start to create calm and peace?   Starting can be the hardest place when trying to create a more simplified life. Your self-expectations of trying to get "everything right" will cause you to crash and burn more often than not. So why even bother trying?!   Perfectionism will always stop you. And perfect is not you. You are called to be authentically you.    You are a good mom. And there is no real standard that your home has to live up to!   There are no rules that you are breaking --- expect those expectations that you are placing on yourself.   But at the same time, a tidy home is a more peaceful space to be in and it's a lot easier to tidy up a home when there is less stuff.     Let's deep dive into this topic of creating your own simplified life today, with Desirae from Minimal-ish.com     Listen in and be encouraged today. I’ve got a special guest with me today! Desirae from The Minimal-ish Podcast is here to talk about her morning routine. I know we talk about this a lot on my podcast and in my community but I always think it’s helpful to get another perspective.  Desirae is a mom to a two-year-old so she’s also in that early stage of motherhood that I’m kind of already out of so I think it will be helpful to hear from her that a morning routine is possible with a toddler!  This episode is full of practical tips that you can put into practice because you know I’m all about taking action here and I believe setting yourself up for success in the morning is so, so important. OK, let’s jump into the conversation! Enjoy! Everything that we talk about in this episode can be found HERE: alliecasazza.com/shownotes/147

Being an intentional mom doesn’t mean you have to be present every moment. It’s not about perfection. It’s about finding ways to make the most of each season so you can enjoy your kids as they grow. It’s easy to feel like you’re the only one in a daily struggle, trying to keep your house managed, raise your kids, and keep it all together, but most moms are feeling the same stresses. Today I talked to Desirae Endres from The Minimalish Podcast about what minimalism means to her and why she was so drawn to the concept. She talks about her overwhelm as a new mom and the mental shifts and physical shifts she’s made to allow herself the space to be a more intentional mom. What I love about Desirae and this conversation is her honest look at motherhood and focusing on what really matters while giving yourself grace in each different season. Learning to live intentionally, finding contentment with what you have, and focusing on what matters, will change how you handle motherhood stress and daily to-do’s. So when I discovered there was someone out there for people like me who might just be minimal-ish, I was ecstatic.    Desirae is a mom, wife, host of the minimal-ish podcast, and a former classroom teacher turned online educator and work at home mom. Her goal is to give women the tools they need to dive into the version of realistic minimalism that fits their family best and to live more intentionally, focused on what matters to them. She fully believes that God lead her family to minimalism and and changed her life through it, and now calls her to share it so other women can experience the freedom of living with less.    Shownotes at www.kindledpodcast.com Sponsor: H. Desirae Endres is a work from home mom and podcaster. Her passion for the message of minimalism and living intentionally started as she jumped into the journey with her husband just over a year ago and got rid of 3/4 of their belongings and downsized into a much smaller home. She soon found the peace and life change that comes from decluttering and having less possessions and wanted to share that message and share her story, so out of that came the Minimalish podcast- a podcast encouraging women and moms to find more time and more joy through having less stuff cluttering up their homes and through slower, intentional living. In This Episode, You Will Learn: What life was like for Desirae prior to learning about minimalism. How Desirae keeps a clutter-free home (even with a busy toddler). How to handle grandparents who want to fill your home with toys. The first steps toward decluttering your home (and life). What to do if your partner isn’t interested in minimalism.
