In this first episode of 'Clear Intentions' (formerly the Minimalist Moms podcast) I reconnect with friend, Ginny Yurich - the founder of 1000 Hours Outside. In this conversation we cover how she juggles multiple roles as a homeschooling mom, author, and outdoor advocate. What does she outsource? If anything? I had to know! And, of course, I couldn't let Ginny go without discussing ways to spend our time outdoors - specifically she discusses encouragement for teenagers, tired moms and for those living in colder environments. A father of three with a stressful job, Tyler Moore felt his life resembled an overstuffed closet: disorganized and overly busy behind the tidy, closed doors. When it all became too much—for their 750-square-foot apartment and his nerves—he set out to unpack the physical and emotional mess around him. In today's conversation, we explore the broader concept of tidiness beyond physical decluttering, touching on mental health, personal values, and routines. The conversation also delves into balancing career, creative pursuits, and family life, highlighting the importance of grounding one's lifestyle in core values.About Tyler |Tyler Moore is the creator of the hugely popular “Tidy Dad” Instagram, TikTok, and website. We are so excited to have Diane Boden from the Minimalist Moms on the podcast today. After feeling like she wanted to live more intentionally and simply, Diane pursued sharing her experience through Minimalist Moms Podcast, which has become a top rated podcast and resource for women! Diane doesn't want the term “minimalist” to scare you - she really just means living your life more simply, with less clutter taking up space in your mental load and taking time away from really enjoying your life with your kids and your family. She uses a technique where if it can be put away in 1 minute, do it right then so you don't have to do it later! It really helps the clutter from building up. And if you're feeling overwhelmed by the amount of stuff in your home, Diane shares what room to start decluttering in and why. And to keep that newly organized space tidy, Diane suggests implementing the “1 in, 1 out” rule. This can be especially helpful for kids' toys!Besides the physical items cluttering up our home, there can also be a lot of mental clutter when it comes to being a mom. If thoughts keep you up at bedtime, have a pen and paper handy to use as a “brain dump”. You can write all your ideas down and tackle the to-do list the next day without worrying you'll forget something. And don't forget to quiet your mind once in a while and relax in a way you enjoy most! Diane also covers what to do in our closets…we know it can seem daunting, but Diane's tips about how to handle your pre-baby clothes and maternity clothes can help this task seem less overwhelming. If you enjoyed listening to this episode, we would love it if you could share it to your Instagram stories and tag us, @minimalistmoms and @expectingandempowered. For many of the early years of our marriage and family we lived in tight quarters that required a lot of diligence around the stuff we brought into our home. When I reflect on that, I realize I learned valuable lessons on organizing, purging, and being intentional about what we surround ourselves with. Those methods continue to shape my perspective even as our family and living space grows. Seeking guidance on how to apply more minimalist principles to everyday life, I invited Diane Boden, author and podcaster of Minimalist Moms, to join the conversation. Diane shares her insightful journey to minimalism, emphasizing the importance of living with intention and finding freedom in simplicity. Are you fed up with the mess around your house? Are you tired of feeling like no matter what you do it's just never clean enough? Are you searching for a way to keep your home tidy only to continually circle Pinterest for the best cleaning tips? Friend, stop the madness! It's time to adopt a reset mindset! Tidying can be as simple as you standing up to leave the room looking around to see if there is anything that you can reset. Do you see anything that is out of place that needs to return to its home? I have stopped cleaning my house all the time and I've learned how to simply reset my home. If it takes me too long at the end of the night to reset, then that means I have too much stuff and that I need to declutter. I need to simplify my possessions and create some systems. On this episode, I'm sharing with you some of my minimalist mom habits and how I use the habit of resetting to tidy my home at the end of the day. Friend, these daily habits can help you too. Let's stop making excuses and stop blaming your circumstances or other people that we just have too much to do. Let's declutter all the extra stuff and start streamlining your reset habits one step at a time. With love and straight truth, Lisa

There's been a lot of talk lately about living a simpler life, slowing down, and being more intentional about how we live our lives. This conversation has been fueled in large part by the pandemic, but minimalism is definitely not a new concept. This idea of embracing a less-is-more world view has been around for a long time, and it seems to have been going more mainstream for several years too – just look at the popularity of Marie Kondo’s book! In this episode, Liz sits down with minimalist living expert Diane Boden who hosts the Minimalist Moms podcast and recently published the book Minimalist Moms: Living and Parenting with Simplicity. Diane shares tips and inspiration for embracing a more minimalist approach and living a life in pursuit of less. Minimalist Moms Podcast: https://www.minimalistmomspodcast.com/

Minimalist Motherhood? It may seem like minimalism and motherhood don't work together! I used to feel that way too. I thought minimalism was just for young couples who lived in modern apartments in the city. But when I became a mom and my kids started growing, I realized all I did was clean up after them. All day long, I picked up toys, did dishes and laundry, and moved paperwork from one flat surface to another. This is not how I pictured motherhood or how I wanted to spend the rest of it.Minimalism and motherhood may seem like complete opposites, but learning what minimalism really means will give you the space you want and desperately need.On this episode of The Simple Home Podcast I talk with Diane Boden from The Minimalist Moms Podcast. Diane is the author of the brand new book, "Minimalist Moms" (which will be released in early March 2021). She teaches us what minimalism looks like in motherhood, realistic tips for decluttering, and how having less and doing less will benefit your whole family.Minimalism isn't just about have fewer possessions, although that does help. It's also about creating space for what's important to you and being grateful for what you already do have. This week I'm chatting with Cladwell cofounder and CEO Erin Flynn - I have the Cladwell personal styling app and use it all the time! We discuss purging closets (she took hers from 450 items to 75!), shopping intentionally (and how "planned obsolescence" and "perceived obsolescence" keep us shopping), the impact of COVID-19 on business, how to make the most of Cladwell and more! Also in this episode I recommend two controversial books that I enjoyed (and delve into some of the controversy): American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell (this one's the October pick for the This Mom Loves Virtual Book Club - come join us!) Plus I run through my 20 for 2020 goals (with credit to Gretchen Rubin) and give an update on the progress - which is actually better than you'd think during a pandemic! ("Wear lipstick more often" has not, however, been a success.) Thanks to this episode's sponsor, Minimalist Moms. I LOVE THIS EPISODE! This is the first episode(probably of many) all about decluttering. Whether you love the idea of decluttering or not so much, this conversation will help you to rethink how you view your home and your life when it comes to the stuff that we allow to take up space. Her goal is simply: think more and do with less. She was exactly the right person to chat about removing the physical clutter from our homes and doing so with intention. This week, I’m bringing you my interview with Desirae Endres of the Minimal-ish Podcast. Similar to the goal of Minimalist Moms, Desirae is passionate about helping others live with less to create space for the things in life that truly matter. I really enjoyed my time with Desirae. She is down-to-earth and genuinely believes in practicing what she preaches. I appreciated hearing about her approach to motherhood and slowing down has made life all the better. We discuss: Quick tips for the following areas of life: Motherhood | Health | Frugality | Cleaning | Faith How the 'slow down' mentality has affected her motherhood and as a wife. Ways we can all become more intentional, slower in our lives right now. Looking for a different take on parenting hacks? I'm thrilled to introduce you to Justin Whitmel Earley, a father of four teaching parents how to create structure from mealtime to bedtime through creating purposeful habits. You long for tender moments with your children--but do you ever find yourself too busy to stop, make eye contact, and say something you really mean? Daily habits are powerful ways to shape the heart--but do you find yourself giving in to screen time just to get through the day? You want to parent with purpose--but do you know how to start? His new book, Habits of the Household releases today and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with him about reestablishing rituals, the connection between our children and our habits, and more. ----Show Notes for EP197: Habits of the HouseholdEnjoy this Podcast?Post a review and share it! People are excited to show their love by giving gifts (especially during the holiday season) but what happens when you receive something that you didn't ask for or want? Knowing how to accept graciously is a skill that we all should hone; it should be your goal to make sure to respond in such a way that the gift giver knows you genuinely appreciate the gesture- even if the sweater is itchy or the perfume isn't your signature scent. Swedish Death Cleaning, or döstädning, is removing unnecessary items and preparing your home so that your loved ones aren't burdened by them after you pass away. While the book that made it famous in 2017, The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning by Margareta Magnusson, focuses mostly on people who are in their sixties or “when the time is coming closer for you to leave the planet”, there is no reason why we can't start today as younger moms who don't want to burden our spouse/partners and loved ones. One question: If you were to die tomorrow, what would your loved ones have to do? Here to walk us through the practicals of this question is writer and fellow minimalist, Emily McDermott. Emily will answer questions such as: Who is death cleaning for? How long is this process? Should we tell our families? What are the lessons we can learn from this culture? And more…----Show Notes for EP207: Swedish Death Cleaning: Morbid or Mandatory?Enjoy this Podcast?Post a review and share it! Order (or Review) Your Copy of Minimalist Moms: Living & Parenting with SimplicityIn this day and age, it can be difficult to truly feel present in motherhood. We have so many roles we're juggling, schedules to manage, self-care to maintain (not to mention remembering little details - such as what to add to the grocery store list or that school pickup is early on Friday.) The question is: how do we manage presence when it feels like we're pulled in various ways? Joining me today to talk through this topic is author, Sarah Bragg. Sarah wrote about this topic (and more) in her recent book, A Mother's Guide to Raising Herself. Today we'll be discussing how to cultivate presence: how can we challenge ourselves to be more present in the moment without needing to document everything on Instagram/social media? How we can be more present as mothers, wives and friends? And how we can teach our children to cultivate presence in their own lives? ----Show Notes for EP187: Being Present IS WinningEnjoy this Podcast?Post a review and share it! On the flip side, the average American child spends four hours a day on screens. While some of this screen time may serve an educational purpose, there's no way that most kids need that much of it. As parents, it' can be tough to swap screen time for outdoor time but the benefit(s) are so worth the challenge. On today's episode, I speak with style coach, Kim Hancher. Kim teaches women how to create their unique style, dress their body type, and curate a capsule wardrobe so that they feel confident doing something you have to do every day, get dressed. In this episode, she discusses how to consciously curate a capsule wardrobe and (beyond that) how to wear more of the clothes you already have in your closet right now by incorporating her tried and true style concepts. Before we get into the conversation, I'll leave you with this quote from fashion and beauty writer, Rae Ritchie, she says, “It's a misconception to think that minimalism and fashion are incompatible. It's still possible to remain up to date with major trends and have a small capsule wardrobe. You just have to be judicious in your choices. Treat how you dress as a fun creative hobby, a chance to play. With a foundation of versatile basics, you can easily drop in a few items that catch your eye.” I'd have to agree.----Show Notes for EP195: Feeling Confident in Your Capsule WardrobeEnjoy this Podcast?Post a review and share it!
