This is one of those episodes I felt called to record because I know so many of us have been here. You love your child with your whole heart, and yet, in certain seasons, you find yourself thinking, I just don't like them very much right now. That doesn't make you a bad mom. It makes you human. In this solo episode, I'm sharing three tools that have helped me move through those really hard parenting stretches—when one child is pushing every button I have—and find my way back to affection, connection, and even joy. We'll talk about:
Happy Monday, my friends! I am truly so grateful to be with you on this final Monday of 2024. Today's episode is going to be a bit more personal than usual, as I spend some time talking through the highs and lows of my year. As I shared in last week's encore episode with Chatbooks co-founder Vanessa Quigley, I love to spend time at the end of the year reflecting on questions my mom used to ask me when I was growing up. I've done it pretty much every year for 25 years, and I am honored to bring a little sample of that to the podcast today and share with all of you. Today, I will be sharing 3 of my 2024 highlights and 3 of my 2024 challenges. For full show notes, as well as a summary of the takeaways, click here. If you want a guide as you reflect over the year, I've designed a printable and fillable worksheet to help you through the reflection process. I'd love to hear your highs and lows! It's “the most wonderful time of the year,” but for some of us, it doesn't necessarily feel like it. I know not everyone relates to this confusing angst during the holidays, but maybe you do. Maybe you put a smile on your face for the parties and events, but inside, you might feel as alone as the Grinch sitting in his cave on top of the hill because who feels down during the holidays? Is your heart just three sizes too small? In today's episode, I'm joined by Dr. Tanmeet Sethi, who shares three tangible ways we can navigate these melancholy feelings during this time of year, including: 1. A simple exercise to soften your melancholy so it doesn't overpower you. 2. A powerful way to boost your energy and feel more at peace. 3. The single best thing you can do to mother yourself during this season. Listening to Dr. Sethi's blend of compassion and research feels like a hug for my inner Eeyore! I hope you feel the same way! Feeling overwhelmed by the jingling chaos of the holiday season? You're not alone! The holidays can add a huge load on us moms. Recently, I found myself overwhelmed, so I took my own advice from the Self-Assured Motherhood program: I paused, assessed my mental load, and eliminated what I could. One of those items was this episode, which I entrusted to my wise, capable team members. And, let me tell you, they stepped up and delivered! This week, 4 of my team members - Molly, Christy, Abby, and Emily - share three practical tips for managing the mental load during this busy time of year. Their advice is both realistic and incredibly helpful. Wishing you all the best as you navigate the festive hustle and bustle, my friend! You're listening to Voices of Your Village, and today we are sharing one of my favorite episodes that I've done that just feels so appropriate in this season, where we get to talk about decluttering your holiday shoulds. We aired this last year with Rachel Nielsen from 3 and 30 Takeaways for Moms podcast. I have been on her podcast before as well, if you wanna check that out. This episode, she joined me and we are re -airing it today and adding in the breakdown with Rach and I at the end. We have heard from so many of you that you're loving the breakdowns. They're so fun for us too, to take these conversations with experts and really look at what does it look like in day -to -day? I love getting to hang out with Rach and do those as well. So thank you for that feedback and I hope you enjoy our breakdown of this episode at the end. Alright, folks, let's dive in. Wouldn't it be nice if our kids innately felt grateful for all we (and others) do for them? That they naturally expressed gratitude and could see how blessed they are? Certainly, some kids are more predisposed than others, but it's been my experience, and I'm guessing yours too, that this doesn't come naturally to most kids. Instead, gratitude is a skill that needs to be taught and practiced repeatedly. So the big question is: how do we teach it? Today's episode will focus on three actionable, realistic ways to teach your kids gratitude. Click play NOW to jump in! Full full show notes, including a list of takeaways, click here. Our children's reactions are often NOT logical. Their outbursts of emotion sometimes seem ridiculous and outsized, and when we try to "talk some sense into them," it usually makes everything worse. Before we know it, we find ourselves yelling and reacting with big anger, and the whole family spirals into a swamp of dysregulation. Can you relate?
Do you enjoy traveling, but financial constraints prevent you from visiting some places on your bucket list? If this sounds like you, I'd like to share a strategy I recently learned about: traveling using credit card points. By making a few minor adjustments to the credit cards we use and when, we've earned enough points to fund a vacation for our family of four at no cost! (And that's without going into debt or carrying a balance!) I learned how to do this from my guest on today's podcast, Amber Paul. She joins me to share awesome tips, including a simple swap that can earn you five free tickets to Europe (instead of one), the best credit cards to add to your wallet, and how to meet the minimum spending requirements without spending any more money than you usually would! Brooke Romney is the queen of modern manners for teens. If you missed it, our last episode was an interview I did with Brooke about friendship problems in the teen years. I hope her words in that interview resonated with you like they did with me. This episode is a little bonus addition where I asked Brooke to share three mini conversations we can have with our teens to help them get better at friendships. (Because, let's face it, most teens need some help learning how to be a good friend! Does anyone else feel like they have a toddler again?
Teenage friendship problems weigh heavily on us moms.
Does holiday stress ever take the joy out of the holiday season for you? It's November 1st, friends, which, for many of you, might mean that you've officially switched from harvest mode to full-on holiday mode. And with that switch, you might also feel the beginnings of holiday stress.

Have you ever thought about using the Enneagram in relationships? If you don't know what the Enneagram is or haven't used it much in your relationships, you are in for a real treat! It is an incredible tool for improving relationships, and I am so thrilled to share it with you today! Now, a little backstory: For as long as I can remember, I've been a sucker for personality quizzes and profiling systems - anything that helps me understand myself and others more deeply. I think this probably started with taking quizzes in teen magazines with my friends while growing up in the 1990s.
A conversation with Jamie Fleck, the travel photographer, writer and custom fine art baker behind Flecks of Love. While living in Oklahoma, Fleck spent a weekend in Amarillo, stayed in a charming Airbnb, loved the local vibe, saved the house on Zillow and then—after getting an alert that it was on the market—decided to buy it and move here. Her baked items have since become a fixture at local markets and pop-up events. She's also been researching and writing her newest book, Best Lake Hikes Texas, with a cover photo featuring Lake Meredith. She tells host Jason Boyett how her accounting career turned into a creative one, why she sees so much potential in Amarillo, and what it's like to hike all over the Lone Star State. The Flecks invited a guest into their bed after last Saturday's big Minnesota win over Iowa.
While editing the podcast interview for today I made a BIG mistake - I let myself take away a piece of my foundation to help me get ahead. My mom brought up how they were going to do family prayer, and she asked if I wanted to join. After I said "no" I realized that I had done something foolish, but still I persisted.Ended up making a mistake in the edit that only added to my aggravation (not to mention the work I'd need to put in to fix it) but I did not let it get out of hand beyond that.Instead I went and playing some basketball and ran those negative emotions out of my system. Now I feel better, and I have learned an important lesson - Do NOT compromise your foundation by trying to take away a piece of it to get ahead, and do NOT miss another family prayer EVER. Haha this was a hard lesson to learn but I am glad I learned it.I also started writing my Flecks of Gold Newsletter Daily so if you're interested in that here's a link: https://flecksofgold.substack.com/All in all I am glad that this happened and yes I will get that other interview up on Monday!Support the show

Living at home again has taught me a number of things about myself. For one thing, it has reminded me that I need to keep on changing things up, and letting myself iterate. Doing this has led to me improving my overall output of the podcast. Lately it's also led to plenty of other benefits. Feeling more flexible overall with growing the show has been just one. I'm choosing to get more done in less time by only working on YIELD Today stuff on Monday and Tuesday. There will still be 3 episodes a week for the time being (I need to get the other 4 cross country trip episodes out still) but I am making more time for other projects (like my newer, more faith-based, podcast, Flecks of Gold)Seeing as I am not getting any of this time back I thought this would be a good move, and I apologize for not having another interview out this week. I'll have another one out next week for sure though. Thank you for sharing the episodes and helping the podcast grow! We're very close to 10k downloads and I want to celebrate that big time! I hope this helps and I'll see you on Friday. :) Resources Mentioned:Flecks of Gold Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/4o9VInhMx2owwAyPjeUEPG More From Me:Newsletter: dallincandland.substack.comPodcast YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@yieldtodaypodcastCommunity on Discord: https://discord.com/invite/KR5cdstcEBMy Twitter: https://twitter.com/dallinsyieldMy Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dallinsyield/Quotes:"This has taught me about Parkinson's Law where there's no point to make things take longer than they need to because you stretch the time horizon for them.""With going on runs or playing basketball it is ALWAYS a W, ALWAYS!""Sometimes I'll play video games and it's not really a win... like only sometimes it is."PS: This was recorded while on my walk tonight, so there may be a passing car or two. At least for this time of my life I think that adds to the ambiance, so it's not a bug, it's a feature. I also apologize for this ending so abruptly. I think a notification came out and stopped the recording. I hope that this is still helpful for you though. :)Support the show

Rachel Nielson makes mom life simple by getting rid of mom guilt. She says, "I thought kind of an overarching principle for me of how I have made mom life more simple is that I shut down mom guilt, and I have found that by eliminating unnecessary mom guilt in my life, my life does feel simpler. Less less chaotic, less emotional in a lot of ways. It's just more straightforward because I have a compassionate, inner voice that just says, Nope, we're not going there."
