The Salvation Army's 36th Annual Bed & Bread Club Radiothon Raised over 1.8 Million dollars to help the hungry and homeless across metro Detroit. The 27-hour radio fundraiser, presented by Ford Motor Company, was held on February 23rd and 24th, on 760 WJR with its on-air personalities and Bed & Bread Club founder, Dick Purtan. Throughout the day, appearances from special guests encouraged the community to donate and help those who are hungry and homeless in metro Detroit.  Generous contributions came through from local car dealerships, banks, and foundations. Forty years ago today, John Lennon was shot dead outside his apartment in New York City. JJ & JoAnne remember where they were when they found out the news of his death. JJ was watching the Monday Night Football game and heard the now famous call from Howard Cosell. JoAnne was listening to her dad, Dick Purtan, on the radio. After his death, a vinyl that the shooter mark David Chapman owned of John Lennon's Double Fantasy has sold for over $1 million dollars. One of the great voices in Detroit joins us in this episode and walk down memory lane recalling his fabulous Hall of Fame broadcast career. Very simply, Dick Purtan set a standard in morning drive talk/entertainment radio that is impossible to quantify. Dick's instincts, and idea's about morning radio were innovative and way ahead of their time. He blazed a trail that hundreds of future morning drive hosts tried to copy, but Purtan's talent couldn't be matched. He was so good,...well, I don't need to tell you because you can listen for yourself,....he hasn't lost a step. He is still going strong, even in retirement, as you can hear in this Conversation with...Dick Purtan.
