David Beckmann returns to Walk Talk Listen for a third conversation. An economist, Lutheran pastor, World Food Prize laureate, and former President of Bread for the World, David has spent decades working to end hunger and poverty through advocacy, faith, and civic engagement. This time, we discuss his new book, Poverty Abolitionists: Faith, Activism, and Hope for Difficult Times, which argues that poverty is not an inevitable feature of society but a solvable problem if people organize, advocate, vote, and work together for change. Our conversation explores the book's five key insights and ten strategies, including legislative advocacy, democracy, social justice movements, faith communities, and reaching across divides. We discuss whether policy advocacy is still as effective as it once was, the importance of local agency and community action, the role of spirituality and inner transformation, and why David remains hopeful despite what he sees as a significant setback in the fight against poverty. We also revisit a question from a previous Walk Talk Listen guest: What is the single most important thing civil society should focus on today? Takk for praten, Rune! How can businesses help to protect freshwater ecosystems, biodiversity, and habitats? In this episode of Frankly Speaking, Richard Howitt was joined by Andreas Beckmann, Regional CEO at WWF Central and Eastern Europe, which works on protecting ecosystems and habitats in Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine. Together they discussed the business case for action on nature and how WWF-CEE has worked with companies such as the Coca-Cola Company and Tesco on conservation and restoration of rivers and wetlands in the region. You'll also hear about: WWF-CEE's award-winning work on the Living Danube Partnership to protect the EU's longest river The implications of the Ukraine war on the country's protected environmental spaces, with around 40% of them being damaged How Central and Eastern Europe is the ‘green heart' of Europe and why its precious biodiversity urgently needs to be protected Andreas's message to EU lawmakers working on the Water Framework Directive and Nature Restoration Regulation The balancing act environmental NGOs face in having genuine partnerships with companies whilst also being free to criticise and hold them to account Listen in and follow us on LinkedIn and Youtube!
* Two for Two This week Fred Williams and Doug McBurney welcome back Dr. Pete Moore and Clifford Denton, PhD, who help us understand why it's time to rethink Einstein's illogical axioms in favor of absolute truth. * Two Ways: Dr. Denton answers more questions about measuring the speed of light (with help from his paper: "The Passage of Light in the Universe - Absolute or Relative Motion", (published in Volume 37 of the Journal of Creation), and notes that a journal reader proved that Michelson Morely would have produced the same result measuring the direction of a diagonal beam of light as it did the right angle, suggesting relativity is an illusion of measurement, and not time itself. * A $10,000.00 Constant: You could be the one to pick up $10K... and quite possibly a Nobel Prize! RSR and Dr. Moore are offering a prize of $10,000.00 to the first person to submit an acceptable technical derivation of the Gravitational Constant "G" based on the Natural Physics and Structure of the Simhony/EPOLA Model of the Space Vacuum. (Pre-register this prize right here) * The Real Tesla: Dr. Moore reminds us that Nikola Tesla warned that “Today's scientists have substituted mathematics for experiments and they wander off through equation after equation and eventually build a structure which has no relation to reality.” * Closing the "Barnes" Door: Thomas Barnes said in his book Space Medium, "The abandonment of the concept of a medium in space is perhaps the greatest mistake of physics in [the 20th] century." * The Petr Beckman Principle: Dr. Beckmann made clear in his book Einstein Plus Two that he found the theory of Special Relativity unsatisfactory, and that conviction never left him. * The Half or the Full Lorentz? Dr. Moore explains how Dr. Denton's work may fit with the EPOLA aether. * Aether Or: Is the Aether Simhony's? or Barnes'? Or something else? "Either" way it's time to conduct the experiments to find out! * Einstein's Absolute Predicament: Pick up a copy of Francis Pym's and Clifford's books "Absolute Space & Time" and Einstein's Predicament and check their models and their math for yourself! * In The Beginning: Pre-order the 9th edition of Walt Brown's amazing, enlightening, biblically sound book explaining why Earth (and the solar system) look the way they do! * Sponsor a Show! Herbert Feuerstein will return.
In this episode, three baseball coaches sit down to break down everything that goes into running an effective practice. From planning and organization to drill selection, tempo, and player engagement, the conversation dives into how practices evolve throughout the season and across different levels of the game. The coaches share what's worked in their programs, common mistakes they see, and how they balance fundamentals with competition to get the most out of limited practice time. It's a practical, honest discussion packed with ideas coaches can take straight to the field.
Cold plunges are everywhere, and the way people talk about them, you'd think they're a miracle cure for your brain, body, and soul. But in an age of algorithm-fueled evangelism, when a ritual becomes this ubiquitous and loud, we have to ask: how much of the buzz is backed by science… and how much is just marketing? In this episode, we explore the neuroscience of cold exposure: what's real, what's overstated, and why this "discomfort" has become a billion-dollar industry. We discuss: Why cold plunges went viral, and how wellness movements often devolve into identity-driven cultures The difference between cold exposure itself and the monetized "cold plunge movement" What constitutes a "cult" (and how pseudoscience forms around partial truths) The real physiological cold shock response Why the mental "high" after a plunge doesn't automatically equal long-term brain benefit The cardiovascular risks that rarely get discussed, especially for people with underlying heart disease What the research suggests about soreness, pain reduction, and muscle growth (including why cold immersion can blunt hypertrophy) The real story behind brown fat Who should avoid cold plunges altogether (asthma, arrhythmias, coronary disease, vascular conditions) Joining us for this conversation is investigative journalist and bestselling author Scott Carney (What Doesn't Kill Us, The Wedge), who has spent years inside the cold exposure world, first as a skeptic, then as a believer, and eventually as a critic of the culture that formed around it. His work reveals what happens when discomfort becomes identity, and when unfounded "social media science" outruns real science. To the clouds.

This month we are honored to have William Beckmann join us for the Talkin' Texas podcast. William is a country music singer-songwriter and musician from Del Rio, Texas. Having gained popularity touring in the regional Texas music scene and self-releasing four extended plays, Beckmann signed with Warner Music Nashville and subsequently released his major label debut, Whiskey Lies & Alibis, on June 20, 2025. His music is a fusion of neotraditional country, with influences of red dirt, tejano, New Mexico music, and traditional pop, with critics noting his signature crooner-style baritone voice. Beckmann has toured with Parker McCollum, Randy Rogers Band, Charley Crockett, Radney Foster, Flatland Cavalry, Midland, and Hank Williams Jr.
In just 5 years, Goldfinger Brewing Company has made Downers Grove, Illinois a true destination for lager-lovers and much of that is to the credit of founder, co-owner, and head brewer Tom Beckmann's tireless quest to make the most interesting lagers you'll ever drink. Tom sits with us for a while to sample through some new and upcoming beers while discussing why telling the stories of his lagers is a key part to reshaping the perception of the category. We also talk about his recent Polish medal for a Polish-style beer, how his first brewing jobs set him up to start his own business, what moves a brewery into the “CollabZone”, which brewers he admires the most, and what specialty serving events could be in Goldfinger's future. Plus, get the exclusive on his first Citra and Mosaic beer, and marvel at the fact that I don't think we ever said the word “decoction” once. (No lies told here.) Ryan Beckmann: Breaking the Silence with Hockey | The Hopeaholics PodcastIn this gripping episode, we dive deep with guest Ryan Beckmann, a Canadian-born former junior hockey player whose life story is a testament to the power of recovery. Ryan opens up about his harrowing experiences with childhood trauma, starting with abuse at age five that shaped his struggles with addiction, mental health, and a skewed perception of intimacy. From building a multi-million-dollar RV dealership empire to losing it all—along with a $3 million debt—Ryan's journey took him from the streets to rehab after missing his children's milestones. He shares how a chance connection with NHL legend Theo Fleury, whose book resonated with Ryan's own pain, led to a life-changing charity hockey event aiming to raise $1 million for mental health initiatives like Canucks for Kids and Puck Support. This episode explores Ryan's reconciliation with his father after nearly a decade of silence, sparked by shared trauma, and his ongoing healing through Celebrate Recovery and faith. Packed with raw emotion, hope, and practical insights, this conversation highlights the importance of community, breaking generational curses, and finding purpose through pain. You can buy your tickets here:https://www.lackcantscore.com/https://www.eventbrite.com/e/saved-a-recovery-experience-tickets-1382200110739Check out Ryan's GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/ultimate-goalie-showdown-where-hockeys-heart-shines#thehopeaholics #redemption #recovery #AlcoholAddiction #AddictionRecovery #wedorecover #SobrietyJourney #MyStory #RecoveryIsPossible #Hope #wedorecover Join our patreon to get access to an EXTRA EPISODE every week of ‘Off the Record', exclusive content, a thriving recovery community, and opportunities to be featured on the podcast. https://patreon.com/TheHopeaholics Follow the Hopeaholics on our Socials:https://www.instagram.com/thehopeaholics https://linktr.ee/thehopeaholicsBuy Merch: https://thehopeaholics.myshopify.comVisit our Treatment Centers: https://www.hopebythesea.comIf you or a loved one needs help, please call or text 949-615-8588.
