Ryan and Todd look back at a 2006 post by Ken Schwaber, which covers 15 ways Scrum is both hard and disruptive. The thirteenth statement from Ken: "Self-managing teams are extremely productive. When they work closely with the customer to derive the best solution to a need, they and the customer are even more productive." Self-Managing Teams' Productivity: The episode emphasizes that self-managing teams are highly productive, especially when they work closely with customers to find the best solutions. This collaboration enhances productivity for both the team and the customer. Autonomy and Team Ownership: The discussion highlights the benefits of autonomy in team settings. Teams that own their work without constant oversight tend to produce higher-quality results. This autonomy is linked to increased productivity and satisfaction. Resistance to Coercion in Workplaces: Current trends show resistance to coercive work environments, where employees are forced into specific work arrangements. Organizations enforcing strict mandates often face challenges like talent loss, emphasizing the need for trusting professional teams to self-organize and manage their work. Customer Inclusion and Empathy: It is vital to include customers in the development process. Direct interaction between teams and customers fosters empathy and a deeper understanding of real customer needs, leading to more effective solutions. Skill Development for Teamwork: The episode underscores the importance of developing teamwork skills. Teams need to learn how to self-manage effectively. While this isn't an inherent skill for everyone, with the right coaching and environment, teams can achieve high levels of productivity and impact.

Welcome to "Podcast By Dr Dad ," the podcast where we dive deep into the world of parenting with a sprinkle of humor. I'm your host, Dr. Gaurav Nigam,MD , the renowned pediatrician, and today we're exploring a crucial topic: the importance of emotional intelligence in kids. Now, let me tell you, emotional intelligence is like the secret sauce of life. It helps kids understand and manage their own emotions while navigating the rollercoaster of social interactions. Plus, it's a skill that'll serve them well into adulthood. So, buckle up, parents, and let's get emotionally intelligent! First off, emotional intelligence has multiple aspects, just like pizza has various toppings. These aspects include: 1. **Self-awareness:** This is like knowing what toppings you like on your emotional pizza. Kids should understand their feelings and why they feel that way. 2. **Self-regulation:** Think of this as not eating the whole pizza at once. Kids need to learn to control their emotional responses, like not throwing a tantrum in the middle of the supermarket. 3. **Empathy:** It's the ability to understand how others might want different toppings on their pizza. Kids should be able to put themselves in someone else's shoes. 4. **Social skills:** This is basically sharing your emotional pizza with others. It involves effective communication, conflict resolution, and making friends. So, how can parents help build this emotional intelligence buffet for their kids? **1. Emotion Identification:** Start by labeling emotions early on. "Hey there, buddy, I see you're feeling a bit 'grumpy' today." This helps kids recognize and express their feelings. **2. The Feelings Wheel:** Create a "feelings wheel" with different emotions and faces. When your child is upset, have them point to the face that matches how they feel. It's like ordering from an emotional menu! **3. Role-playing:** Pretend play can be a goldmine. Pretend to be different characters and explore how they might feel in various situations. It's like emotional dress-up! **4. Storytime:** Read books that delve into emotions and discuss the characters' feelings. It's like sharing a slice of emotional pizza with your child. **5. Family Meetings:** Have regular family meetings to discuss emotions and problem-solving. Everyone gets a say in the emotional pizza toppings! **6. Model Emotional Intelligence:** Children learn a lot from watching their parents. So, be a role model by managing your emotions effectively and showing empathy. Remember, parenting is a journey with plenty of emotional bumps and slices along the way. Don't be too hard on yourself or your kids. We're all works in progress. And, always add a dash of humor to lighten the mood. After all, laughter is the best topping for any emotional pizza! That's it for today's episode of "Podcast By Dr Dad" I hope you found this exploration of emotional intelligence both informative and chuckle-worthy. Until next time, keep parenting with heart and humor!
Today marks two years since I launched the Advancing Women Podcast. This episode highlights the evidence-based knowledge and awareness of our reality as ambitious women. The very real biases and barriers that can make our journey more difficult. I continue to hold up to the light, call out, and interrupt the narratives around women's advancement that too often suggest that we are flawed; that it is our not-enoughness that leads to inequity. This podcast continues to be grounded in the rejection of the false premise that women are defective, flawed, or somehow less fit to lead, advance, or thrive. The fallacy is that if we do all the “developmental” things we would see the inequities melt away. A lie we are constantly fed. Warriors, we are neither broken, nor defective. We don't need to be fixed! The fix-the-women narrative has too long manifested as best practice advice given to women that does not work because it is recycled, repurposed advice that was not designed by or for women and does not consider the very real, scientifically proven impact of gender bias. Things the ambition penalty, gas lighting, tightrope bias, tug of war bias, prove-it-again bias, and the motherhood penalty. I started the podcast two years ago as a place where empathy meets pragmatism. Empathy: It's not your fault. Pragmatism: But it is your problem. It's about correcting both the invisibility and distortion of our real experiences in ways that better serve us. Tune in for strategies that reflect the very real barriers that can make our journey more challenging. It's about gaining clarity, getting unstuck, and a mindset shift aimed at interrupting the social conditioning that can lead to self-blame and self-doubt. Join this community of women supporting women. A community that provides unconditional, unjudgmental support, to help you transcend and thrive. People won't know what you have unless you share it. Target audience: Know who your avatar is and show up every single day. Speak to that person unapologetically, until you get the messaging and the pain points right. Frequency: For people to understand what you have to offer, they have to hear it a few times before they realize it might be for them. Clarity: Lack of clarity is the number one reason people have failed launches or are not converting. Ask for what you need and what you need help with. Momentum: When you're starting out something, you need to build a lot of momentum around that one thing or that one service. Curiosity: Give yourself permission to explore what else is out there that you could fall into that feels right for you. Consistency: Build a business and be successful in any way that feels right for you. You don't have to do it like everybody else. But you have to be consistent at whatever it is that you are doing. In this episode, I talk about what empathy really is and how to use it in your parenting. Use empathy when you have to say “no”, how to use it when your child is too young to name their emotions and how to use empathy for yourself! Robbin is a Certified Parent Coach, author and speaker. She works with parents from all over the world to help them build more connection and find more joy and cooperation to their parenting. Robbin is a former ‘Angry Mom’ and for over 12 years, Robbin juggled a full-time corporate career while being a mom and wife, prior to becoming a Parenting Coach. In her corporate career, Robbin has a background in marketing and public relations, training, and event planning. She understands firsthand how many moms struggle to balance work and family. It’s because of her struggles as a parent that she found the world of peaceful parenting and has dedicated her life to teaching parents how to build a strong family, so their kids thrive. Robbin’s work focuses on building and strengthening the parent-child relationship so that children grow up with resilience, confidence and strong emotional intelligence. She works with parents to help them understand their own emotions and frustrations in parenting, so they can help build their children’s sense of self without losing themselves in the process! In October of 2018, Robbin released her first book, “The Yelling Cure – How to stress less and get your kids to cooperate without threats & punishments.” Her book is being read by parents all over the world 1000,000 copies sold to date. Robbin divides her time working with her clients, speaking at events and spending time with her two boys and husband. You can usually find her at a hockey rink or sports field cheering on her boys. Most importantly, Robbin has changed the way she parents and connects with her sons and is dedicated to helping parents find the same joy, connection and cooperation in their families. If got it right, your child will say “yeah!” Words of Empathy It’s ok to be sad – I know you are sad and it’s ok to cry I’ll stay with you until you feel better This is really hard for you – I can see how hard this is for you I’m here with you – I’ll stay with you Tell me about it – tell me more I hear you That was really scary, sad, etc. I will help you work it out It doesn't feel fair Emotion words from www.groktheworld.com: http://www.groktheworld.com/sites/default/files/product-upload-files/Feelings%20Inventory_0.pdf Don’t forget that empathy is also for YOU!!! These 4 leadership skills have helped me go from frustrated with staff to loving and looking forward to every day. Get these right and your business will grow exponentially. Empathy It’s not an easy job to do well, it can be draining, it can involve failing and it can involve great wins To put myself in their shoes and really understand how they see something which causes their action. Processes We only can control our actions, we can’t always control the outcomes. Concentrating on outcomes can handcuff us and stop us from reaching our full potential. We concentrate on our processes and we are accountable to our people - Numbers have been a focus for us this year but i know if we concentrate on process and people we will be successful. Conditions and culture Leaving fulfilled, safe and satisfied Examples stories - wedding protection parents hand their kids over to the company Being a leader is like being a parent it is s learning process where you need to feel safe. Critical and supportive. We have a big emphasis on giving each other constructive criticism. We started with positive support. I want my team to be successful, i want it to be with me but if its not i know they will kill it!
