Every week, a group of men in their late 60s meets at the Corner Cafe in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. One important reason for these meetups is to discuss what's going on in their community. Local news has virtually dried up in their rural county, as well as neighboring counties, and some residents say they're being left in the dark and don't feel equipped to make informed decisions.“I'm not gonna vote if I can't get the information,” says Penny Abernathy.Like in much of the country, roughly two-thirds of North Carolina's counties are considered news deserts. And the lack of local journalism isn't just making it harder for people to stay informed; it's exacerbating a crisis of trust in the news media. This week on Reveal, we partner with the podcast Scene on Radio and its hosts John Biewen and Chenjerai Kumanyika to understand how American journalism got here and what can be done to repair the cracked foundation of the Fourth Estate. Todd Blanche has come under sharp criticism for his public defense of the Justice Department's handling of the Epstein files release and the recent transfer of Ghislaine Maxwell. In multiple media appearances, Blanche asserted that the file release represented “full transparency,” despite extensive redactions that critics argue obscure key details and protect institutions rather than victims. Observers note that many of the released materials were already publicly accessible, fueling accusations that the disclosure was more performative than substantive. Blanche's explanations have been described as dismissive, relying on broad assurances rather than specific justifications, which has further eroded public confidence in the DOJ's narrative.Blanche has also defended Maxwell's transfer within the federal prison system by citing unspecified “security concerns,” a rationale that has drawn skepticism due to the lack of accompanying detail or independent verification. Critics argue that the vagueness surrounding the move mirrors a broader pattern of opacity in the government's handling of the Epstein case. Legal analysts warn that Blanche's repeated public statements may ultimately create a documented record that could be scrutinized in future investigations or proceedings. As pressure mounts from victims' advocates and transparency groups, questions continue to grow about whether the DOJ's approach reflects legitimate security considerations or an ongoing effort to manage political and institutional fallout rather than fully confront the scope of the scandal.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Clifford did everything right: hard workouts, clean eating, supplements, biohacks—the whole playbook. But despite decades as an athlete and a successful Silicon Valley entrepreneur, his sleep, energy, and performance kept slipping. In this episode, we unpack why alcohol quietly breaks the rules, especially after 50, and what actually helps men get back to sharp, strong, and fully themselves again.

When I first came up for the idea for the Culture Study Romance Book Club back in January, I knew I wanted every edition to have two books: one contemporary, and one historical. Part of this desire was selfish (I personally gravitate towards historicals) but I also wanted to explore the contrast between what you can do with a romance set in the past (with its particular confines) and one set in the present (with seemingly none, but actually so many). I also knew that I wanted to start with M/M romances (hi, Heated Rivalry) and that Melody had sung the very loud praises of renowned historical queer romance author Cat Sebastian's mid-century queer romance — particularly You Should Be So Lucky, which managed to combine baseball (one of Melody's true loves) with romance (Melody's secondary love). And listeners, I hope this is clear: when it comes to so many things, but romance in particular, I listen to Melody! And when Melody asked if we should try and get Cat on the pod, I said "obvi please try." AND THEN SHE MADE IT HAPPEN. This remains a total marvel of hosting a podcast: sometimes the people you admire so deeply... can also come on your pod. This is a long preamble to the overarching point: Cat Sebastian isn't just an absurdly talented (and successful) author of queer historical romance. She's also whipsmart when it comes to the crafting of these romances, the idea of vibes vs. plot (and third act break-ups in particular), how she translates the historical record, and so much more. This pod is for you if you're at all interested in romance, obviously, but also if you're at all interested in how we think about the past as a narrative playground. Final note: We had such a good time recording this episode and laughed one billion times — I hope that joy translates when you listen! GREAT NEWS: WE HAVE VERY GOOD EPISODE TRANSCRIPTS NOW! They come out within 24 hours of the pod, so you just have to be a little patient and then come back and click here. Alexander; When the Tides Held the Moon by Venessa Vida Kelley; and An Island Princess Starts a Scandal by Adriana HerreraWe're currently looking for your questions for future episodes about:HISTORICAL GOSSIP! We're talking with Nichole Hill, host of Our Ancestors Were Messy, about hot, messy, ideologically fascinating world of Black gossip columns during the golden era of Black newspapers (1930 to 1960). What do you want to know about how the Black press worked during this era — and how gossip in particular worked (both about stars, local celebrities, and normal people?) There's so much here!!!HILARY DUFF!!! The comeback, the new album, let's talk about all of it — with Hilary Duff expert/forever-fan ALLIE JONES (also Melody loves Hilary Duff so much and will be very sad if we don't get enough questions for this episode) Conversion Therapy (how it affects people late into life, how it still exists, etc. etc — we're talking to Timothy Schraeder Rodriguez about his new book, Conversion Therapy Dropout, and there are so many connections to the ways the current administration is currently trying to "de-trans" people in custody) KID INFLUENCERS — what happens when your parent puts you on camera before you can really consent? We're talking with the author of a new book about the ramifications of growing up within these worlds — it's gonna be so good. Anything you need advice for/want musings about for the AAA segment. You can ask about anything, it's literally the name of the segment. As always, you can submit your questions (and ideas for future eps) hereFor this week's discussion: OH MY GOD WE COULD TALK FOREVER! If you could set a queer romance at any time, when would it be? What would your characters be doing, and how would they fill their days? Also who wants to be best friends with Cat (me)
Have you ever left an IEP meeting feeling stuck? Maybe you asked for a specific service or accommodation, and the team said no? Or worse, they gave you a vague "let's table that for now?” You're often left feeling like the conversation is over, but I'm here to tell you that's actually not how the law works. In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on Prior Written Notice (PWN), the most powerful tool in your advocacy toolkit that nobody tells you about. We're moving past the "just trust us" culture of school meetings and diving into why this legal requirement is your best defense against vague explanations and stalled progress. Whether you are currently facing a denial of services or just want to be prepared for your next meeting, I want to provide the strategic roadmap you need to turn a "no" into a documented trail of accountability. So grab your coffee and your notebook, because it's time to move from "I didn't know that existed" to "I know exactly what to do with this." You can break through the barriers NOW and get instant access at https://www.literacyuntangled.com/from-lost-to-empowered. Topics Covered: A clear breakdown of what the Prior Written Notice (PWN) document is and why it is a mandatory legal requirement, not a courtesy [2:04] What specific things makes PWN so powerful [3:48] Key scenarios where this document becomes a game-changer, from evaluation denials to placement changes [5:33] The "hidden" right you have to request this documentation even if the school doesn't offer it or mention it [7:15] How your advocacy shifts once you stop accepting "no" as a conversation ender and start building a documented trail [7:36] Why PWN is the ultimate tool for transparency and accountability, and how it moves you from being one step behind to being a strategic partner [8:43] Key Takeaways: A refusal from the school isn't a closed door; it is simply the point where the documentation must begin. By using Prior Written Notice, you shift the entire conversation away from personal opinions and back to the specific assessments and data that your child's services are legally required to be based on. Just in case you haven't already picked out every bathing suit you're going to need for the summer of 1991, Sassy's bringing you one more fashion story on bikinis. Hope you like the way Bronwyn models them because there's very little variation in her poses! The issue also covers vaguely pan-Latin American looks, some kind of fairy tale beauty story, bandana and patchwork-y prints, and how to keep the sun's harmful rays off your precious skin. Sure, a deep tan sounds good now, but someday you'll be in your fifties and VERY aware of sun damage! TRUST US!!! All of this and so very much more awaits you in our latest episode! QUICK LINKS

After the Bureau of Labor Statistics released a worse-than-expected US jobs report, President Trump fired the agency's head, Erika McEntarfer, claiming her numbers were ‘wrong' and manipulated. There's no evidence this was the case but many agree gathering reliable data on the health of the economy is getting harder. The FT's chief data reporter, John Burn-Murdoch, discusses why that's happening and what to do about it with Erica Groshen, the former BLS commissioner.Clip: NBCFurther Reading:US labour data agency was teetering even before Donald Trump fired its chiefTrump's war on data will do lasting harmDonald Trump's attack on US labour statistics agency spooks investorsJohn Burn-Murdoch is the FT's chief data reporter. This weekend, Brian and Jeremiah go into the realm of estate planning, focusing on the misunderstood but crucial tool: the revocable living trust. They answer listener questions from California to Florida, explaining step-ups in basis, trust-based ownership, and how titling mistakes can send your estate straight into probate. The real-world implications of leaving property outside of a trust, the legal difference between revocable and irrevocable trusts, and why funding your trust matters just as much as setting it up. They also address common misconceptions, like whether trusts protect assets from lawsuits or divorce—and offer guidance on avoiding costly oversights. Estate planning isn't just for the wealthy—it's for anyone who wants their legacy to pass smoothly and privately to the next generation. If you've ever thought about leaving property to your kids, this conversation will change how you plan for the future. It's all about Daisies and we and we ain't talking bout pushing them up! Jack, Lynne and Matt McFarland park this week's episode of The Growing Season in a patch of Shasta's. Matt talks about Daisy Dukes. Jack responds with “Ox Eyes.”Road Daisies and trains converge. 10% of the plants on earth are Daisies. Echinacea and Black Eyed Susie are members of the Daisy family. Who knew? The “Fibonacci Sequence” and phototropism are discussed.Poisonous Daisy family members? Yup, you read that right. As well, lettuce… You won't believe the tie-in. A rant about Russian Sage ups the hilarity. The trio wonder aloud why they don't use English Daisy more. Further, they discuss why they don't use Blanket Flower anymore. It could be snow related. The parts of the Daisy flower are outlined and then The McFarlands dive headlong into Echinacea. “Raspberry Beret Coneflower.” TRUST US. Moerheim this, Moerheim that. Criminally underused plant materials are highlighted. Sneezeweed and Ozark Sundrops are on this list. Jack's obsession with Ice Plant gets a giggle. Tune in. I'm always asking questions. The fun begins when you start researching for answers. Such as… We are trained to trust in God but does God trust us? Plus… why are there so many actors playing podcasters on TV and in movies? I'm Arroe… I am a daily writer. A silent wolf. I stand on the sidelines and do nothing but watch, listen study then activate. I call it The Daily Mess. A chronological walk through an everyday world. Yes, it's my morning writing. As a receiver of thoughts and ideas, we as people tend to throw it to the side and deal with it later. When a subject arrives, I dig in. It's still keeping a journal! By doing the research the picture becomes clearer. This is the Daily Mess…Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

He compares trade relationships with other countries under Biden versus today, and the impact of U.S. jobs and the economy. And, they discuss today's Smerconish.com poll question on whether what President Trump is doing with tariffs now is a permanent part of his trade policy, or, a negotiating tactic. It's the long-awaited return of YOU DON'T KNOW DICK and we've got a barn burner of an episode featuring cinematic podcast royalty Mike White (from The Projection Booth) joining us to chat about the raucous 1980 comedy USED CARS /w Kurt Russell, Jack Warden, Deborah Harmon, Frank McRae and Gerrit Graham! But before that we go deep on what the heck happened to Robert Zemeckis, and how USED CARS came about - and how it was turned into a mid-80s TV show (briefly). All this and, of course, a close look at Dick Miller's (brief) appearance, and it's NON-STOP LAUGHS. Trust US!
