We meet iconic painter Sean Scully on the eve of his 80th birthday at his studio in North London.Over the course of his 50-year career, Sean Scully has created an influential body of work that has marked the development of contemporary abstraction. Fusing the traditions of European painting with the distinct character of American abstraction, his work combines painterly drama with great visual delicacy. Often structured around stripes or layered blocks of colour arranged on horizontal and vertical axes, the layers in his paintings attain a fine balance between calm reflection and an intrinsic vitality. A forceful, physical artist, Scully creates intentionally compelling spaces, and his art is defined by acute concentration and care, involving constant negotiation between the monumental and the intimate. While giving primary importance to the physicality of the materials he employs, his art is commanded by the idea of humanity's betterment, and at the heart of each rigorously composed work lies a near-infinite number of expressive, emotional fluctuations.During a trip to Morocco in 1969, Scully was strongly influenced by the rich colours of the region, which he translated into the broad horizontal stripes and deep earth tones that characterise his mature style. Following fellowships in 1972 and 1975 at Harvard University, he permanently relocated to New York. In the early 1980s, he made the first of several influential trips to Mexico, where he used watercolour for the first time in works inspired by the patterns of light and shadows he saw on the stacked stones of ancient walls. The experience had a decisive effect on him and prompted his decision to move from Minimalism to a more emotional and humanistic form of abstraction.Follow @SeanScullyStudio‘Sean Scully: Stories' at Bucerius Kunst Forum @BuceriusKunstForum, Hamburg, Germany is now open and runs until 30th November 2025.Thanks to Faye at Sean's studio in Tappan, NY and to all of his galleries: @KerlinGallery @ThaddaeusRopac @Lisson_Gallery Hosted on Acast. Most performers I know have all had one of those anxiety filled nightmares of finding yourself on stage on opening night, with no idea what the play is about, who your character is, or what your lines are. So it is a special kind of masochist who would willingly put themselves in exactly that situation. Nadine Garner and Fayssal Bazzi are two such masochists. They are about to take on Iranian writer and theatre maker Nassim Soleimanpour's new play: ECHO: Every Cold-Hearted Oxygen. Each night a new performer takes to the stage not knowing what is going to be asked of them. Unrehearsed and deliberately unprepared, the script becomes their only guide as they journey through the story of the playwright, connected live from his home in Berlin. ECHO is an invitation to consider what home means to each of us. Fusing new technology with the oldest tricks in the book, this is an ambitious, magical and profound production where no one travels yet everybody is present.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-saturday-quiz. Episode OverviewIn this episode of Spiral Deeper, our host, Gaby Azorsky, speaks with Alexandra Love, the creator and lead of Beautiful Chorus. Together, they dive into intuition, creativity, Beautiful Chorus, the Universe, light, sound, color, mantra, resonance, frequency, collaboration, co-creation, creative processes, and more. Thank you for joining us on this journey of self-discovery and growth!A little more about Alexandra and Beautiful Chorus: In 2011, Alexandra Love was inspired to assemble a 12-woman chorus to sing the harmonies she had written for her solo project, In Curses. She created a festival, The Festival of Light and Sound (April 2012), to debut this project and to bring Beautiful Chorus together for a one-time performance. The ladies practiced each week leading up to the album release. The festival was a huge success and after that night, Love decided to keep the project going. She booked tours for Beautiful Chorus around the country, hosted crystal singing bowl meditations w/ the ladies, lead vocal workshops and more. It was then that BC wrote + recorded songs, and have since become the most successful independent group of their kind. Fusing elements of electronic, choral, deep bass, hip hop and jazz, Beautiful Chorus is unlike any other. They have albums that span from wordless symphonies to full rhythmic songs, w/ sound healing frequencies and love-centered messages. They even have a wordless holiday album, a lullaby album, and a multitude of singable hymns and mantras. Beautiful Chorus is currently residing in Orlando, FL where they are developing a new live experience, hosting spiritual conversations, and preparing for their upcoming full album release, High Frequency Love Music, due out 7/26. Beautiful Chorus is currently made of Alexandra Love and four other members (Patty, Anisha, Yuki and Veronica).Special OfferCODE - SPIRALOFFLOWERS for 20% off your first month in The Flower Portal!Connect and Work with GabyInspiring the connection between Heaven and Earth through Reiki, Tarot, Folk herbalism, Clairvoyance, and Meditation. On today's show, we chat with Band Reeves! The Reeves brothers have taken their hybrid brand of acoustic-grounded storytelling and spiritually-fueled country music to concert venues nationally before being discovered and signed to their first label deal with Centricity Music. A little bit Shane & Shane, a little bit Florida Georgia Line, Band Reeves is forging their own unique path on a patch of back forty dirt where blue-collar living, big family dinners and bonfire worship all converge.Fusing complementary country and Christian musical genres rooted in life on the farm and the faith that sustains them, Palestine, TX-based Band Reeves brothers Jeramy and Cody release their Centricity Music debut single, “Outrun You", the song was birthed after Jeramy's transformational encounter with Christ.Although he made a public profession of faith at age 12, it wasn't until he was 23 that Jeramy experienced a real relationship with Jesus. “I made a lot of stupid decisions as a teenager,” he admits. “I was walking further and further away from what I knew was true.” During his wayward season, Jeramy's wife had a life-changing encounter with the Lord at 18, the same year they were married. “I just watched God radically change her, and that challenged me in a lot of ways,” the oldest Reeves brother reflects, “in the way she was living and handling our marriage, and in the way she could forgive and move forward.”When divorce entered the conversation, Jeramy found himself at a crossroads. After digging into the Bible and examining the theology behind different religious schools of thought, he made a personal decision to genuinely follow Jesus.“I got on my knees at two o'clock in the morning, put my face in the gravel; and I just told God, ‘I don't know what happened to me when I was 12 years old, but I know where I'm sitting right now,'” he remembers. “I asked God to save me, and when I stood up from that little heart-to-heart with Jesus, God started radically changing me, and He healed my marriage.”bandreeves.com@bandreeveschristianmusicguys.com@christianmusicguys
Youtube Amazon Baileygreymusic.comBioBailey Grey Emerges “Out From Under” with Jazzy, Honest, and Joyously Complex Debut“Out From Under,” the debut single from Love It All Bailey Grey's first full-length album showcases the arrival of a fearless new voice in pop music. Fusing jazz, blues, and danceable pop with lyrical honesty and emotional intelligence, the track is a vibrant introduction to Bailey's musical world. With her warm, expressive vocals and genre-bending musicality, Grey creates a sound that's both refreshingly personal and artistically rich. What makes the song even more striking is the story behind it. Bailey wrote “Out From Under” while working nights as a host in an underground London bar disguised as a sex shop. “‘It said ‘Girls! Girls! Girls!' on the front,” she laughs, “but it was just a dive bar and restaurant. I was getting home at 3 or 4 in the morning, waking up late, and going back to work a few hours later. I felt low, burnt out, and stuck but still trying to make time to create music and figure out my life.” The result: a song born of exhaustion, longing, and hope, shaped into a beautifully produced, timeless groove.Built on a rhythmic ticking motif that mirrors the pressure of time, “Out From Under” cleverly underscores its themes without being overbearing. Bailey's rim-click percussion ticks steadily beneath shifting tempos racing forward one moment, slowing down the next as she sings lines like:“Can I make the time go slow? / And get out from under?”That emotional layering blending storytelling with sound design is a hallmark of Love It All, a collection that dances across genres while remaining deeply introspective. Bailey draws inspiration from iconic female artists like Amy Winehouse, Sara Bareilles, Fiona Apple, Joni Mitchell, and Dodie, while forging a voice unmistakably her own.“I get bored when I make the same kind of music,” Bailey explains. “So I zhuzh it up I blend genres, follow new sounds. I want the album to reflect all the spaces I've been creatively. Every song is a new lens.”A Journey From Stage to StudioOriginally from northern New Jersey, Bailey's artistic roots run deep. She began her career as a child actor in New York's musical theater scene, starring in the Broadway National Tour of Mary Poppins at age 10. Her credits include Stephen Schwartz's opera Séance on a Wet Afternoon and A Christmas Rose at Carnegie Hall alongside Jane Seymour. After high school, she studied musical theatre at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and earned a master's degree from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. It was during the pandemic that Bailey began writing her own music in earnest. “Theater will always be a part of me,” she says, “but I needed to start telling my own stories.”Her songs aren't just lyrical they're sensory. Bailey writes from the rhythms and sounds of her surroundings. “I live in a soundscape,” she says. “There's a rhythm in everything a bus passing by, birds outside the window, cars rushing past and I try to build those moments into the music.”On Love It All, that soundscape comes to life:“When I Fall” features a bass ukulele and soprano uke.“Easy,” the closing track, was recorded near an open London window you can hear the distant hum of buses and passing voices. The title track, “Love It All,” is a meditation on finding wonder amid struggle: “I fall in love with every song that I hear / Polyrhythmic harmonies reflect my atmosphere.”She adores that lyric for two reasons: “I've never heard anyone use ‘polyrhythm' in a lyric,” she notes. “And it's not just clever it's how I actually experience the world.”Independent, Unfiltered, and AuthenticAfter returning to the U.S., Bailey made the bold decision to part ways with her label and release Love It Alll independently. “I was a child actor, and for years I had to fit into a box play characters in other people's stories. Now, I finally get to share mine.”With “Out From Under,” Bailey Grey arrives not just as a singer-songwriter, but as a fully realized artist one who transforms the ache of burnout and the hum of everyday life into vibrant, resonant music. This is music that grooves, heals, and surprises a debut that marks the beginning of an exciting, genre-defying journey.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.
BashTech Radio 78 with Materielle Bio: Materielle is a Los Angeles-based techno artist whose deep, dub-driven sound draws heavily from the rhythmic syncopations and atmospheric textures of 90s Detroit techno. Fusing elements of heavy, hypnotic basslines with intricate patterns and immersive reverb, Materielle's music taps into the raw energy and experimental edge of underground techno, with an emphasis on subtle detail and emotional depth. A self-taught producer with a decade-long career in music technology, Materielle has cultivated a distinctive sonic palette shaped by the teachings of pioneering artists like Rødhåd, Claudio PRC, and Richie Hawtin. The project's name, Materielle, is inspired by the delicate art of weaving—an analogy for the artist's approach to music, where sound is crafted through layers and textures, much like fabrics are woven together to create something new. Since 2019, Materielle has honed her craft as a DJ, transitioning seamlessly into production with her track singles, Satin and Organza on Delusional Records and the release of her debut EP, Fabrique on Northern Parallels. The EP, which features the tracks Nylon and Neoprene, with remixes from Mike Derer and Raytek, has garnered attention for its unique blend of hypnotic grooves and emotionally charged atmospherics. Materielle's recent release, a remix of Orly Gal's track, The Man Without a Face, was chosen by Beatport for their November 2024 Techno Shortlist (peak/driving), further solidifying her growing presence in the techno scene. In early 2025, she contributed the track Kevlar to the Synthetik Minds VA Compilation, a benefit release supporting Los Angeles fire relief efforts. The compilation features a lineup of major artists from across the global techno scene, underscoring Materielle's commitment to both artistic collaboration and community impact. Through her work, Materielle invites listeners to immerse themselves in a world of intricate sound design, where the boundaries between space and rhythm blur, creating a meditative yet driving experience. With an approach rooted in both technology and art, Materielle continues to explore the intersection of sound, texture, and human emotion within the ever-evolving techno landscape. Materielle has played LA Compound, Re/Form, SXTCY, Bang Bang SD, Techno Taco Tuesday Las Vegas, and various LA undergrounds. She has supported Daria Kolosova, Ryan Elliott, Lindsey Herbert, Annika Wolfe, and Nur Jaber. In this episode of the Defence Connect Spotlight podcast, Jeremy Kenealy – director of growth and air defence at Anduril Australia – joins host Liam Garman to unpack how Anduril has developed an open architecture counter-unmanned aerial system and counter-intrusion capabilities, merging a number of traditional and new sensors to enhance situational awareness on tomorrow's battlefield. They kick-off the discussion by exploring the modern battlefield, where small, low-cost drones are creating strategic operational-level impacts. The conversation then dives into how advancements in drone technology, such as swarms, AI and automation have prompted a rethink. Kenealy explains how some sensors, like traditional radio frequency sensors, are becoming less effective in this environment, and how Anduril's Lattice system harnesses a network of collaborating sensors to deliver a clearer, real-time picture of the battlespace. The episode wraps up with a look at how these capabilities are supporting ground defence operations – and includes an update on the much-anticipated Ghost Shark program. In Market Encounters: Consumer Cultures in Twentieth-Century Ghana (Ohio UP, 2017), Bianca Murillo explores the shifting social terrains that made the buying and selling of goods in modern Ghana possible. Fusing economic and business history with social and cultural history, she traces the evolution of consumerism in the colonial Gold Coast and independent Ghana from the late nineteenth century through to the political turmoil of the 1970s. Murillo brings sales clerks, market women, and everyday consumers in Ghana to the center of a story that is all too often told in sweeping metanarratives about what happens when African businesses are incorporated into global markets. By emphasizing the centrality of human relationships to Ghana's economic past, Murillo introduces a radical rethinking of consumption studies from an Africa-centered perspective. The result is a keen look at colonial capitalism in all of its intricacies, legacies, and contradictions, including its entanglement with gender and race. Bianca Murillo is a professor at California State University, Dominguez Hills. She is a historian of modern Africa, with research and teaching interests in global economies, decolonization, and race and gender studies. An aligned life filled with presence, playfulness, freedom and growth expresses itself in many ways. It shows up in our choices (and how we make them), our relationships, our words and how we live. In short, it's highlighted in our ability to Be, Play, and Love. Most people miss the fact that the process of finding one's own alignment is an inner game. It has little to do with what's happening outside of us, and rarely stems from finding the right routine, ritual, or life hack. It's continuously dropping into our heart space, feeling into what's right, releasing fear, and expanding our capacity for good things. This sounds like a lot of serious work, but it doesn't have to be! There's nothing better than when we can weave together deep wisdom and playfulness. That's where life gets delicious! How do we find what flow and alignment mean to us? What gets in the way of it? In this episode, we're doing something different. Spiritual coach Rabbi Jessica K. Marshall joins us today to ask us some questions! We share what's most meaningful and joyful to us and how we express it in our lives. Things You'll Learn In This Episode -Weave deep wisdom into play Is there a way to grow in our purpose without losing our playfulness? How do we find that balance? -Be willing for things to be easy Our society is attached to the idea of struggling if something is right. The truth is, when we're on the right path, there's less friction. How do we identify when we're out of alignment and pushing harder than life wants us to? -From control to curiosity In most relationships, the intention is to be right and in control. How do we let go of those old patterns and get to the part where we can explore, grow, connect, and play together? Guest Bio Rabbi Jessica K. Marshall's soul is nourished by loving connection to others and the natural world. She serves by creating a sacred space to honor moments of joy, tenderness, and overflowing possibility. For the last 20 years, in environments as diverse as colleges, congregations, and secular settings, Rabbi Jessica K. Marshall has nurtured each person's inner and communal connection so their path lights up with ease, abundance, and JOY! Fusing personal growth and inclusive spiritual paths beyond Judaism, she draws on nature-based ritual, energy practices, and a healthy dose of playfulness and humor. Jessica is a devoted galvanizer of sacred community, which she uses to reveal the depth of meaning that awaits us when we bring our full selves to communal experiences. She offers weddings, a virtual spiritual community, and one-on-one support to bless the love and spirit present in each chapter of life's journey. Find out more at rabbijessicamarshall.com. Song: My Body Music by: Alexandra Sarton Notes: Singing this week brought me into my body in a joyful, appreciative way... our bodies, our existence are such miracles, and this song fully celebrates and owns this. For anyone who has ever felt ashamed of their body for any reason, this is a medicine song, a reclaiming, remembering song. Alexandra Sarton Love, who wrote it, has lived with alopecia since age 10, causing baldness. Maybe you're going through a medical treatment that makes it difficult to feel ownership of your own body? Maybe there's a relationship which leads to doubt about your body's beauty or validity? Maybe media or social gatherings has harmed your connection to your own body? Maybe you're a nursing mom? I don't know what you bring to this song... but I'm sooo glad you're bringing it! Join me and you bring you, I'll bring me -- let's sing these words together! Songwriter Info: In 2011, Alexandra Love was inspired to assemble a 12-woman chorus to sing the harmonies she had written for her solo project, In Curses. Beautiful Chorus is currently made of Alexandra Love and four other members (Patty, Anisha, Yuki and Veronica). I had the pleasure of speaking with George Lee, creator of Chez Jorge and author of A Gong's Table, to uncover the profound connection between food, culture, and identity. His book, a stunning collaboration with photographer Laurent Hsai, takes readers on a heartfelt journey through Taiwanese cuisine, deeply influenced by his grandfather, Buddhist traditions, and his experiences navigating life across cultures. At the heart of the book lies a tribute to George's grandfather, whose round wooden table symbolized the warmth and unity of family gatherings during his childhood. Together, we delve into George's reflections on family, the evolution of their culinary traditions after his grandfather's passing, and the rich tapestry of Taiwan's gastronomy. From Buddhist vegetarian practices to the creative impulses that shaped his storytelling, George brings a deeply personal and insightful perspective to the table.George's book is a beautiful love letter to Taiwan and a quietly uncompromising work of personal and national exploration, guiding readers through Taiwan's vibrant food culture with a rhythm as steady and intimate as footsteps. The conversation expands on this in a personal way with interesting tangents.Topics Discussed* The comfort and nostalgia of home-cooked meals.* The origins of "Chez Jorge" as a reflection of cultural and personal exploration.* How his grandfather, Ah Gong, inspired his culinary philosophy.* The impact of learning vegetarian cooking from Buddhist nuns.* Fusing modern influences with traditional Taiwanese practices.* His creative collaboration with photographer Laurent to tell Taiwan's story.* Future projects blending food, craftsmanship, and culture.* Tradition, innovation, and the transcendent power of food as a connection to home and heritage.Excerpts from Interview“The book was exactly like a learning process. I didn't have a clear idea of what I was gonna write until it was written.”“ Looking at new things with old eyes and to feel the changes”“ I think it's always like that when you're too comfortable with your own surroundings, there's not that much to write about anymore.”“It's sort of the feeling I wanted to capture with my cooking was just, like a sort of home cooking that is comforting that brings you home.”For more information: A Gong's Table Get full access to Leafbox at leafbox.substack.com/subscribe

The Talk of Fame Podcast got to chat with Andrea Whitt! Andrea is an amazingly versatile and unique talent. One day she may be playing viola on a recording session for a Kendrick Lamar album, later in the night she'll be playing pedal steel guitar live in a country rock band. Such is the diversity of musicality that she can display at will. No wonder she is in demand from artists Shania Twain to Struggle Jennings to Moby, Zucchero and Slash. World class violin and viola player in both classical and fiddle styles, she also happens to be one of a small number of female pedal steel guitarists in the world. During a recent performance as a guest artist with Blues Traveler, John Popper announced live on stage, “Andrea Whitt, she's fucking awesome!” Earlier this year guitar legend Robby Krieger joined Andrea on stage as a special guest for her first solo show. Joss Jaffe & Jim “Kimo" West share stories and songs off their new album, Santhi. Grammy-winning, acclaimed slack key guitarist Jim “Kimo” West, the longtime guitarist in “Weird Al” Yankovic's band, and world percussionist/instrumentalist Joss Jaffe introduce their new unique global fusion album Santhi. Inspired by the spirituality and natural splendor of the famed Indonesian island of Bali, Santhi's Sanskrit title means “peaceful in spiritual and physical happiness”. Listen to Santhi: https://ingrv.es/santhi-u1d-e Having never even seen Waikiki, JIM “KIMO” WEST came right to the tiny village of Hana, Maui in 1985 and spent much of his time there for many years. It was in Hana where he first heard the music of Gabby Pahinui, Sons of Hawaii, Sonny Chillingworth, and Atta Isaacs. Already familiar with alternate tunings, the sound of ki ho'alu became rooted deep in his musical landscape. Kimo is regarded as one of the world's foremost “ki ho'alu” or Hawaiian “slack key” guitar artists and his music has garnered over seventy-five million spins on streaming services. He is a 2021 Grammy Winner for his recent CD, “More Guitar Stories” and a 2019 Grammy nominee for “Moku Maluhia-Peaceful Island”. He is also a 2008 winner of the Hawaii Music Awards and four-time Na Hoku Hanohano (the Hawaiian ‘Grammy') nominee. He is also a two-time winner of the LA Treasures Award for his efforts in keeping this important acoustic guitar tradition alive. This warm and engaging fingerpicked guitar style has its roots in 1840's Hawaii, when Mexican vaqueros first brought guitars to the Big Island of Hawaii. If you saw the Oscar-winning film, “The Decendants” you have experienced this great acoustic guitar tradition. Kimo is a veteran of Hawaii's famed slack key festivals as well as the So Cal Slack Key Festival every year from 2008 through 2018. He has shared the stage with almost all the world's top slack key players at one time or another. His numerous CDs feature many original compositions as well as inventive arrangements of the genres' classic repertoire. His seventh CD, “Guitar Stories” goes beyond slack key, exploring other genres like West African guitar, Middle Eastern Music, and Americana. “Slackers In Paradise” features duets with slack and steel guitar legend, Ken Emerson, and his latest CD, “Moku Maluhia-Peaceful Island” is a mix of “nahenahe” or very relaxing compositions. For his work as long-time guitarist with “Weird Al,” he has earned four Grammy's and a Billboard #1 CD debut for 2015's “Mandatory Fun.” Kimo has also worked as a composer for film and TV for many years and maintains a sophisticated private studio in Los Angeles. He has composed music for features films, network TV shows and specials and cable shows. His slack key compositions have been used in many feature films, TV spots, and documentaries. JOSS JAFFE is a world musician known for his unique blend of musical influences and genres. Born in Santa Barbara, Jaffe took an early interest in music, learning guitar, piano, drums, and tabla as a child. After high school, he attended UC Berkeley, honing his skills in composition and improvisation and as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist in ensembles of African, Gamelan, and Middle Eastern music. Music. His music ranges from modern pop and reggae to soothing, brainwave-entraining compositions for relaxation, yoga, and meditation. Today, Jaffe continues to pioneer pushing musical boundaries with his experimental recordings and live performances. His leadership of his band at premiere yoga conferences and transformational festivals is a testament to his influence. Jaffe';s founding of the record label Artizen, which serves as a platform for dynamic cross-cultural collaborations with talented musicians worldwide, underscores his role as a bridge-builder in the music industry. His creative approach to music has inspired fans and fellow artists, fostering a sense of unity and collaboration. https://jossjaffe.bandcamp.com Host Bonnie Burkert melds the worlds of media and higher consciousness, sharing tools for transformation to find our highest truth and live our brightest life. https://www.instagram.com/yogi_bon/ Subscribe and listen now on @TheClubParanormal your favorite podcast platform to join us in this compelling journey into the darkness.
