"The truths of the Church are truths, they're not just 'the Church truths.' They have worked this out, not only from a faith standpoint, but from a factual standpoint. One of the startling realities can be that: not only do I know that God exists, but I can prove it...factually and without exception. When you hear the case, you cannot disagree with this. All you can do is deny it. It's right there. It's so clear," said Frank Cronin, author of "The World According to God: The Whole Truth About Life and Living" (Sophia Institute Press). On Wednesday, December 2, host Deacon Mike Beauvais talked with Frank Cronin, a revert to the Catholic Faith, a regular writer for the National Catholic Register, and author of The World According to God. In the first part of the show, Deacon Mike talked about St. Nicholas, who’s best-known story concerns his charity toward a poor man who was unable to provide dowries for his three daughters of marriageable age. Listen in to hear more about this story! In the second half of the show, Frank Cronin joined to talk about his conversion story, and his book, The World According to God. Frank was raised in a loosely-Catholic family, and as he got older, he switched to Atheism, then Evangelical Protestantism, and eventually, with the help of Scott Hahn’s Rome Sweet Home, and further research, found his way back to the Catholic Church. Listen to this episode for a great conversation, and remember when considering the many ways in which you might share your time, talent, and treasure with God, always round up!

It is I — substitute host, executive producer, and clippable discount coupon Marc Hershon — filling in for regular host and spanking new parent Tyson Saner! Well, he’s not literally spanking his newborn baby. That kind of thing is frowned upon in modern society BUT that IS to say that — since I last spoke to you in previous Epi186 — Tyson and his lovely wife, Laura, have recently welcomed their new son into the world! His name is Jareth Franklin Saner, and Tyson informs me that he was named after The Goblin King from the movie Labyrinth, as portrayed by David Bowie. If you want to send big congrats to our host Tyson and his wife Laura on the birth of their son, Jareth, you may reach out to him via Twitter @RevT23 or send an email to him at Tyson@SuccotashShow.com As as when T-man will be back in front of the Succotash microphone, he’s predicting sometime in early March – the soundcasting world can get a little…wiggly…when it comes to timelines and schedules. But, until he returns, I shall endeavor to fill the void. And this time around, the void is being filled with THIS Succotash Chats Epi 187! My special guest is comedian/actor Frank Cronin, who I chatted with the other day via Skype as he had just completed a rather amazing 500 mile trek, on foot, from San Francisco to Los Angeles. It took him 41 days to make the trip, and it was not because he doesn’t own a car but rather to raise awareness for the plight of the homeless in this country. Frank was able to raise twenty thousand dollars for Homeless Health Care Los Angeles (https://hhcla.org/) and found the experience to be rather eye-opening…and almost eye-losing as well. More on that as we get into our chat in a moment. You can follow him on Twitter and Instagram @GLOWPUNK. You can also still donate to his Rough Set GoFundMe page or give directly to the folks HE’S giving his money to: Homeless Health Care Los Angeles. This episode of Succotash is brought to you by Henderson’s Scavenger Slax and Trumpoetry.com — but please remember that these are pretend sponsors only and that Succotash is 100% listener supported. You can help us to keep the mics cranked up by clicking on the donate button on the upper right of our homepage and kicking some cash into the kitty. Or use the Amazon banner at the top of our site to do your online shopping and they’ll give us a little taste off the top. Or you can purch some merch at our Succotashery – a spiffy hat or handy mug, perhaps – and that helps to offset production costs as well. If ponying up some scratch for your favorite Comedy Soundcast Soundcast isn’t in the cards, how about just a few moments of your time to get up to iTunes and grant us a 5-star rating and a glowing review? Costs you nothing but may be just the thing to pull this show into the limelight so that other listeners can find us. That about does it for Succotash Chats Epi187. I want to think our special guest, Frank Cronin. And remember that our main main, Tyson Saner, will be back here in the big chair before you know it. Until then, you’re stuck with me, so I hope that’s all right. In the meantime, please remember, for all the people you know, to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon

Max Lager's and Friends Brewing bring a long gone Georgia beer back to life Opened in Helen in 1990, Friends Brewing and the Helenboch Brewery was Georgia's first craft brewery. It was a very different time for beer in Georgia, and across the US. Microbrew was the term used for what we call craft beer today, Georgia still had a 6% cap on ABV, lagers were the preferred styles, and Friends Brewing was just the 175th microbrewery in the US. Friends made a great impression on the beer scene when they launched, Helenboch won silver at the Great American Beer Festival in 1989 and Helenboch Oktoberfest took gold in 1991. The famed beer writer Michael Jackson visited the brewery as well, and no visit to Georgia is complete without a trip to Waffle House where Jackson experienced the greatness of hash browns served scattered, smothered, covered, topped, and chunked. Helenboch Brewery Produced Award Winning Beers Helenboch beer was brewed in Helen from 1990-1991 and contract brewed through 1998. After being gone for nearly 20 years a Facebook message to Friends Brewing's PrAward-Winningcoggins from Helenback Race Series founder Dan Wilkins set the wheels in motion to bring it back to life. Scoggins posted to see if a brewery would let him brew his beer with them... or give him $500,000 to re-open a brewery. He didn't get any funding offers but Max Lager's John Roberts saw the post and reached out to Dow and in short order they agreed to make Helenboch happen again. As with many microbreweries of the day Friends Brewing is no more, but the original owners are still very passionate about beer. I sat down recently with Rick Roberts, Frank Cronin, and Dow Scoggins from Friends; John Roberts from Max Lager's; and Dan Wilkins from the Helenback Race Series to sample and talk about this old/new brew and the memories it brought back. You can try Helenboch beer at Max Lager's now "until it's gone" or run the Helenback Race Series on April 29th and enjoy a pour at the finish line.

Frank Cronin - Renua Ireland This week on WTSpod we've gone political. General Election 2016 is just days away and it could be one of the most important elections in Irish history. So, to help you make a decision we approached all the major party candidates in the Dun Laoghaire constituency to ask (amongst other things) 1. Why should people vote for you? and 2. Why should people vote for your party? In part one of our election special we spoke to Sinn Fein's Shane O'Brien who is bidding to become the first ever Sinn Fein TD for the Dun Laogaire Constituency. In part two we spoke to Fianna Fáil's Cormac Devlin who has been a councillor in Dun Laoghaire for over 10 years and is hoping to be elected to Dáil Eireann at first time of asking. In part three we spoke to Renua Ireland's Frank Cronin. A Cork native that has been living in Dublin since the late 80's, Frank Cronin is a business man who has been CEO of such organisations as Newstalk Radio and The Sunday Tribune. It is the first time Frank is standing for any kind of political office. Danny & Mero give their breakdown of the Dun Laoghaire constituency and provide the historical context for how voting tends to swing in the borough. Polling day for Election 2016 is February 26th, get out there and make a difference.

Here's "Halfisode" 87.5 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast. I occasionally crank one of these mini-episodes out when I'm roadtripping between San Francisco and Los Angeles — or, as in this case, making the return trip. Grover being Muppetnapped on I-5 If you're going to miss an episode of Succotash, this would be one to take a pass on. There are no clips, no interviews, no Henderson's Pants ads, no TweetSack, no Top 10 Most Active Show in Stitcher's Top 100 Comedy Podcast List…in short, none of the usual features that you most likely know the show from. Well, that's not exactly true. I do finish off this halfisode with an extra Burst O' Durst with comedian Will Durst that I had hanging around. If this is your first taste of Succotash, God help you. This is NOT representative of what we normally do. But it IS representative of what I do when I'm driving long distances and that is: Talk to myself. Or, as you have here, talk to you, the listener. In this halfisode I ramble on about a number of topis, most of which are about podcasting although the longest stretch is all about what I did and who I saw while I was in Los Angeles for the better part of a week. Some of the folks I saw are podcasters – Rick Overton, Matt Weinhold, Phil Leirness, Dean Haglund. While some of the others (including the previously named) have been guests on past episodes of Succotash – Dana Carvey, Tom Carvey, Frank Cronin, Jon Manfrellotti. I'm also introducing a new offering with this show: The chance to get your helping of Succotash before anyone else! That's right. I'm experimenting with a new site and service called ConnectPal that allows you to create a subscription model for just about anything you can distribute on the web. So, for just TWO BUCKS a months (plus a 76¢ service charge), you'll be able to stream or download each epi of Succotash two days before I put it up on Libsyn, iTunes, Stitcher, SoundCloud and anywhere else on the internet. So just click on the ConnectPal link in this paragraph and toss us a couple of bucks to get us first! So that's about it for the rundown on Halfisode 87.5. This is just a little (40 minute) ramble to tide you over until fullsize Epi88, which will be up within the week! Until next time, please remember to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
Welcome to Epi75 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast! 75 episodes. A milestone of sorts. Three-quarters of the way there if there is 100 episodes. Glad to have you with us and hope you enjoy this particular outing. Not a whole bunch of comedy podcast clips this time because our special guest is podcaster and TV producer Adam Spiegelman, host of the Proudly Resents cult movie podcast and also Dream Tweet, a podcast game show. Adam is – or was – a producer on Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell – I say “was” because I just read today that FXX has cancelled it. Bear that in mind when we talk about the show in our interview because – a month and a half ago when we talked – everything was fine. Back then, in happier times, Adam and I hung out a bit at this year’s Los Angeles Podcast Festival and he sat down with me in the Podcast Lab where we talked about movies, TV and, of course, podcasting. In addition to Adam, and some funny clips, we have our Tweetsack, our Burst O' Durst, and a classic Henderson's Pants commercial. REVIEWS For This Week In Comedy Podcasts on Splitsider.com, I reviewed not one but two shows — the hot-as-a-pistol Welcome To Night Vale, über-comedy-creepy narrative; and The Nerdist with Gillian Jacobs (Community, Bad Milo), so check those both out. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES (l-r: Marc Hershon, Frank Cronin, Dex Carvey) This past weekend I got to act in a sort of experimental web series that friend-of-Succotash Dana Carvey is producing and starring in called The Funster. VERY low budget. The first three episodes – I call them episodes but they’re really more like “moments” because they’re so short – are up on YouTube. I make my appearance in the fourth installment, which is still being worked on. I think we’re re-shooting some of it this weekend, so I’ll let you know when that’s up online and I’ll have that episode on the SuccotashShow.com site when it’s ready. THE 10 MOST ACTIVE SHOW IN THE STITCHER TOP 100 COMEDY PODCAST LIST The Top 10 Most Active Shows in the Stitcher Top 100 Comedy Podcast list is heard exclusively on Succotash. Most people do a straight ahead Top 10 countdown. Not us. No sir. We’re more interested in the podcasts that have moved up or down the most on Stitcher’s Top 100 comedy list. Like these… 37. The Artie Lange Show +2563. This Week In Blackness Radio +1266. Dining With Doug & Karen +3672. This Week with Larry Miller +975. Jim Florentine’s “Metal Comedy Midgets” +1079. The Dana Gould Hour -2185. What Say You? -2087. SModcast > FEaB -3188. The David Feldman Show -1596. The Cracked Podcast +49 CLIPS Proudly ResentsThe flagship show of our special guest this episode, Adam Spiegelman, Proudly Resents is billed as "the cult movie podcast" and often features Adam and his guests dissecting and roasting some of the silver screens most fragrant bombs. In this sample from his most recent episode, Adam - along with Katharine Heller and Myq Kaplan – took a look back at the movie Dead Heat, starring Treat Williams and Joe Piscopo. The Artie Lange ShowMost people know Artie Lange from his years sidekicking for Howard Stern. He was also on MAD TV and has appeared in a few movies like Dirty Work and Beer League. His new memoir, Crash And Burn, is out and has been on the New York Times Bestseller list. His podcast is really the audio version of his Dish network TV show, and also features HIS sidekick, former NFL player Jon Ritchie. In this clip, Artie reminisces about some quality party days. Cornucopia RadioWe received a clip of this podcast from producer/writer Peter Beeston, who tells us that his podcast is created by a selection of writers and performers in the UK. "Every episode is a unique piece of radio fiction — sometimes they are dramatic pieces, sometimes they are comedic — but they are always of high/professional quality." This particular clip comes from a mocumentary about druid life in the UK, and about one Druid in particular, Brian Parker. The clip was written by Laurence Peacock, and features the voices of Chris Bellamy, Laurence Peacock, Christine Bellamy and Phil Mason. Welcome To Night ValeThe podcast universe has gotten so vast that even I am having trouble keeping up with it all. Which is why hadn’t even heard of Welcome To Night Vale before I got to the Podcast Festival in LA last month. The show's a narrative and is, in fact, narrated by Cecil Baldwin. The show’s created and written by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor. They’ve got commercials for really weird things, original music, and the best way I can define it in a thumbnail pitch is that it’s A Priarie Home Companion as conceived by H.P. Lovecraft. The Wrong FootWe haven’t played a clip from The Wrong Foot podcast for awhile. They’re a funny audio "sketchcast" and it’s high time we got another taste. We got a note from executive producer Robin Brecker this week along with a clip. Robin says, “I know you guys are busy with Thanksgiving coming up and lima beans to shuck, but here's a clip from the Wrong Foot collection that is short enough. Thanks. And rememember, defrosting is for suckers." That's the lineup, essentially, for Epi75 along with, of course, our Tweetsack segment and a classic commercial from our sponsor, Henderson's Pants. Ah. Back to an all-clip episode of Succotash, your Comedy Podcast Podcast. We have a cornucopia of clippage for this time around. Mostly new faces or, rather, voices, but some old faves, too. Purposely not clipping any of the "big" shows this time around. I’m talking the shows that get most of the attention from the media and, as a result, keep cropping up at the top of the heap on iTunes, Stitcher, etc. There are a lot of comedy podcasts out there that get short shrift, little notice or just plain ignored. Succotash has been making an effort to beat the bushes for the harder to find podcasts and, if YOU’RE a comedy podcaster and want to get a clip on Succotash, just email us a 3 to 5 minute MP3 snippet from your show! Send it to clips@SuccotashShow.com. I wanted to share a video with you from Frank Cronin, our Irish correspondent. He's finished his summer foray in America and is back on the Emerald Isle - Galway City, to be exact - where he's looking to finish up a college degree. His international travels the past few years have left him a little bereft of ready cash, however, and for the short haul, he's looking for a place near the university to camp until he gets his rent money together. Take a look... All right - let's get to the rundown for the latest episode. Here's what's on tap... I Am IdiotWe’ve featured I Am Idiot with Ben, Howard and Keith from Britain before. This clip - featuring a prank phone call from Howard where he's been challenged to mention the title to every Mel Gibson movie in the course of the conversation - is longer than we usually play. But this one was pretty entertaining so I made an exception. Moment Of ClarityLee Camp is a comedian with an activist bent. He's very active in the Occupy movement. And his podcast, Moment Of Clarity, has 158 episodes or so, meaning he’s got this thing down. Interviews, guest, rants. It’s a pretty heady and often revolutionary blend he offers. Sweet Feathery JesusSFJ is a cross-country, trans-Atlantic affair, with hosts Belasco, Dr. P and Booze in Texas, North Carolina and England, respectively. Some listeners seem to think that Belasco and I sound alike. Not sure about that, but the trio of them are interesting guys, sitting around on the internet, talking. SpoodcastThe teaser for Spoodcast on their homesite reads: “Two Americans, One Canadian, and one American living in Canada walk into a bar. There’s no punchline. That’s the Spoodcast.” One of the co-hosts (and executive producer) is Matthew Dean. Another dude is named Joel. No idea who the other fellows are - more info on the website, guys! Dr. Matt Matthew Dean (see above) also produces and stars in Dr. Matt. This unlicensed head shrinker bills himself as “half Dr. Phil, half Stephen colbert and half Dalai Lama." Ever since our favorite Dr. Feelgood Bob Ducca and his Affirmation Nation went silent back in February, podcasting has needed a self-help guru. Could Dr. Matt be the answer? Maybe so… Combat Radio We played a clip from Combat Radio two episodes ago when Phil Leirness was our guest co-host. I asked Sargent-At-Arms Ethan Dettenmaier for another little taste of the show and he shot us over a short blast with Captain Cool Billy Dee Williams. The Brit & The AmericanThomas Moore and Alba Lewis over at The Brit and The American were so tickled that we played their clip that they recorded a special little thank you in the course of their podcast. I was tickled about that that I'm playing it in this episode. From Out Of Nowhere (aka FOON)We play a first clip from the From Out Of Nowhere podcast — or FOONcast — with hosts Rob Kern and Eric Furniss. It's a music and comedy-oriented show, with lots of guests, such as Marc Maron and Marshall Crenshaw. This clip features the guys’ visit with Blue Oyster Cult singer/guitarist Eric Bloom, and they ask him about the infamous SNL “more cowbell” sketch. Remasculate Comedian Steve "Mudflap" McGrew has been featured on Comedy Central and other TV venues. Now he’s fired up a podcast called Remasculate, featuring various guests including his wife. In this sample, Steve comments on a news article about the Top 10 Hated jobs in America. Proudly Resents We’ve featured Adam Spiegelman before and with good reason: He gets some kickass guests. This time around he chats with Tony Clifton, the sometimes alter ego of late comedian Andy Kaufman and sometimes alter ego of Bob Zmuda. This clip has a great untold Jim Carrey tale. We close out this edition in the usual fashion, with a visit by raging moderate political comedian Will Durst, this time giving us his take on the recently-wrapped Republican National Convention. Until next time, please remember to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
It's been roughly a year this month since I started Succotash and it's been an very interesting journey just getting to this point. Originally I foresaw us moving into a weekly model but as you can see, with us just now getting to Epi23, we didn't even get to a pair of shows a month. I've been working on streamlining the workflow, however, and hopes are that the remainder of 2012 will see more Succotash more often! Dana Carvey, Tom Carvey & Frank Cronin For the third time, Dana Carvey graces us in Studio P ("The Home of The Hit!") and he's not alone. Frank Cronin is a globetrotting Irishman, capturing his journeys on video and posting on YouTube on his Glowpunk channel. Currently in the United States for as long as his visa holds out, he's going to travel the country with his video camera, grabbing as much Americana as his hard drive will hold. This is Frank's very first podcast appearance, which makes this a Succotash exclusive. And, in another excloo, we also have Tom Carvey, in the studio — Dana's breakdancing teenage son. (Although there's no breakdancing in the show, Frank WILL have a video up soon featuring Tom's crew doing their thing.) Early in this show, I feature an audio clip from THIS video by Frank, called Cliff Jump. It's all about plunging off rocky ledges into the freezing cold North Atlantic on the coast of Ireland. Here's the video in its entirety... Even with all of these guests, we got in a pile of comedy podcast clips AND our Burst O' Durst. Of course, the show also runs a full hour and a half. (Try THAT on terrestrial radio!) Here's who we have this time out: PF's Tape Recorder PF Wilson uses his tape recorder to capture life's little moments (TV, too) and then the clips he selects are the springboards for commentary and sketches. This particular taste deals with a not-too-bright, pooch-stealing cable guy. The show's an inventive idea. Get more nuggets from the source, at either http://pfradio.podbean.com/ or on iTunes. The Gee & Jay Show I've referred to guest Frank Cronin as Succotash's Irish interpreter in the past but he earns his keep this show as we spin three clips from Belfast's The Gee & Jay Show. These lads - Gavin and James - host a rollicking time and the more listen the more you understand. For more immersion, hit http://geeandjayshow.com/ or iTunes. The JV Club This new podcast on the Nerdist site is hosted by actress/comedian/SF Sketchfest organizer Janet Varney. More conversation than interview, Janet goes one-on-one with a female guest who, like Janet, is in the entertainment world. In this clip, her guest is comedian Natasha Leggero. You can get extra helpings of the JV Club over at http://www.nerdist.com/podcast/the-jv-club/ or on iTunes. Jay V Mail This podcast, hosted by Jay V and Brady, started back in 2005, making it one of the earliest podcasts around. But then it disappeared two years later, only to reappear last year. Simple premise: Jay V answers his mail. One letter, one episode. They rarely run over 10 minutes. The hot button topic this clip? Zombies. More? Go: http://www.blubrry.com/jayvmail/, iTunes or Stitcher Smart Radio. Don't Quit Your Daycast DQYD is a new show, with about a dozen epi's now. And it's hosted by friend-of-Succotash Ed Wallick, who continues to sharpen his wit on bits of rant. Turns out that Ed doesn't like it when dismembered human feet wash up on his nearby beach. Who knew? Find Ed lurking at http://dontquityourdaycast.com/ as well as on iTunes. I Am Idiot Ben, Keith and Howard (they put the i's in Idiot…) are back for a second time, this time because one of the boy's has scribbled a children's book. Spoiler Alert: It sucks. And the others are only too happy to critique it. More in store at http://www.iamidiotcentral.com/ or on iTunes. The Green Room We haven't featured Sean Green's little slice of podcastland since one of our very first episodes, so it's good to be back in touch. And there's a great story by his guest Tess Barker about when her dad tried to scare her straight. Didn't work. But funny getting there. Drop into the Green Room at http://seantgreen.com/, iTunes or Stitcher. The Thom & Jeff Show These former radio guys - Thom and Jeff - have found a new lease on broadcasting life by jumping into a podcast. In this clip, they're playing a little something they like to call The Fuck No Game. Get more fun features and laughs at http://thethomandjeffshow.com/ or on iTunes. Burst O' Durst This time around, our in-house political pundit Will Durst points out how we can expect to watch Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney morph his performance and perspective into something that an unsuspecting moderate or liberal might fall for...if they were brain dead. Get more Durst at http://WillDurst.com or catch his tweet on Twitter @WillDurst. Things to remember: Rate Succotash on iTunes!
