She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Arts from Dun Laoighaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology, after graduation She moved to New York city where She began to perform her stand up comedy acts. Katie did actual therapy for over a year in America and it helped her to understand and identify what was conditioning from her childhood and where She was projecting her negative patterns in her life, friendships and relationships. A great chat with this amazing young lady who in July 2023 was named a JFL International New Face at the largest international comedy festival in the world, which is called Just For Laughs in Montreal. Our guest is one of the UK and Ireland's funniest comedians. The Irish Times said “it's like watching a young Irish Billy Connolly” he won an award at last year's Edinburgh Festival and he's been a finalist at the greatest Best Act competitions including ones at The Hackney Empire, The Leicester Mercury's, the BBC AND The Leicester Square Theatre.  He's also turned his hand to investigative journalism and has an explosive documentary coming out on BBC Radio 4 in April called The Devil's Own which is going to shock the world. I was lucky enough to get an inside scoop and I can't believe what he's uncovered. It's ostensibly about a crazy underground devil-worshipping cult called the White Hoods but what he uncovers is stranger than any fiction you can imagine and if it wasn't going out on the BBC I wouldn't even believe it. Moving Matters

In this episode David Cran, Managing Director of MintBox Removals discusses how he got involved within the industry only 5 years ago, but the seed of being a remover was potentially sowed much earlier on in life. David's life as a remover didn't start according to plan, a night out on the town ended early after an accident with a taxi, which resulted in David being hospitalised and on crutches for several weeks! MintBox Removals is based in Edinburgh and provides predominantly domestic removals, packing and storage services (mostly via third party storage companies), running 3 x Luton Vans and 1 x HGV (recently purchased from Richard Webster at Tonks - Listen to Richard's episode here (https://www.movingmatterspodcast.co.uk/21)). David's challenges have been, his personal accident at the start of his removal life, Covid and the stamp duty holiday, and growing the business. The one thing David would change from his relatively short time in the moving industry is to have spent a couple of years gaining experience while working for a large Edinburgh based mover. David's highpoints of being within the industry are, moving several Aberdeen FC footballers, being involved with the Ireland RFU during the Six Nations, being the ‘kitman's assistant' as David puts it, and purchasing the HGV. David wouldn't change a great deal overall within the industry but would like to see the conveyancing system making use of Proptech (property technology). The advice David would give himself just starting out within the industry again, apart from look right and left when crossing the road, would be connecting, and communicating with other movers earlier, and to enjoy the process. In the next 5 years David would like to go down the route of palletised storage, an industrial warehouse to operate from and an additional HGV. Industry wise, David see's more use of the demountable body system, ran by several companies currently. Outside of the industry David enjoys family time with his two children, and gardening, in which David has developed a passion for lawn care! And as always we end Moving Matters with four, yes four funny moving stories, an April Fool's prank, a famous Irish Comedian, an attic incident, and the CEO of Hibernian FC. Enjoy! Selected for Comedy Central's Up Next competition and as a semi-finalist in both the 2014 Florida's Funniest Comedian Competition and the 2014 Charleston Comedy Festival, Sean has been seen at comedy clubs and festivals across the Southeast, including The Improv, the Orlando Fringe Festival, the Orlando Indie Comedy Festival, and at Gringos Locos Tacos at 3 in the morning after a night out. http://thecomedycast.com/ Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from Irish stand-up comedian Conor Drum. We kick off speaking about Conor's Edinburgh Festival Fringe show All My Friends Are Dead, we speak about where the name comes from, don't fear he's friends aren't actually dead, just metaphorically dead. He tells me about his friends always trying to set him up with the loser girl at weddings and he speaks about how he seems to be not achieving "life goals" at the same rate as his friends. He talks about the idea of 'the one' and how simply ludicrous it is, but if it does exist scientists need to descend on his hometown and study his mates because so many have seemed to found 'the one' in their own backyards. We chat then about why it gets harder and harder to go on the session as you get older and Conor laments for his younger days when hangovers didn't hurt so much. I ask Conor about when he meets his married friends now does he get a sense of pity of jealousy from them. We return to the subject of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival then and I ask Conor about his show a bit more, he had actually done a shorter version of it last year so I wanted to know more about the process of improving on last year's show. We talk about some of the highs and lows of performing at the Fringe over the years and what he's learned during that time from performing there and how those experiences have helped with him putting on his current show All My Friends Are Dead. It comes up a lot on the podcast that Irish comedians almost have to move to England to make it there first and Conor tells me a story about a time he met Jimmy Carr while working and some advice he gave Conor about getting better gigs in The UK. Conor Drum will be well-known to Irish listeners, he made headlines in Ireland in 2014, when his show Nutjob about his testicular cancer became widely known, so we speak about that as well. Conor also does a bit of acting and writing so we got talking about a recent article he wrote for HuffPost about the new drinking session, a Baby Storm, a bit like a Baby Shower, but totally different and actually enjoyable. We talk then about film, what he loves about it and what he's like to do in the future but also what he prefers about stand-up comedy when you compare the two disciplines. We speak then about his writing process and how he likes to expand on ideas and who his comedic influences were growing up.

We start off asking about how the previews have been going in the run up to his show at this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We get talking about the whole idea behind having to have a theme for shows at the Fringe and why comedians do this and why some of them use the term very loosely. We speak about Rory's Edinburgh Show "Getting Serious", how he's been preparing for it and what's the show's going to be about. We get a bit nerdy then on Edinburgh and speak about what he's learned over the year from performing there. We chat about the highs and lows of performing at the Fringe and how one of the best parts of it is meeting other comedians from all over. We talk then about the other show he's running with former Comedy Cast guest Danny O'Brien about a variety show they're putting on every day. We speak about why Rory's laptop is set to Spanish instead of English. We get talking then about why if you want to 'make it' in Ireland you have to make it in England first, mostly because the Irish love to claim someone once they become well known. We speak about the differences between Irish and British crowds and how there's very little really, the biggest differences are when you go out into the sticks away from the cities. We chat about sleepy English seaside towns and how they're like something from old Scooby-Doo cartoons.

I ask him about the nature of preview shows and about how much a set will change from the previews to the actual Edinburgh set. We speak too about learning to be critical of your work and how sometimes it doesn't matter what you think of a bit, it's the audience that are the best judge of new material. We speak about Ger's podcast with former Comedy Cast guest Martin Angolo, Canary in a Comedy Goldmine, where Martin tests out new material on Ger. It's a brilliant podcast and I urge you all to subscribe, the lads are hilarious together. I tell Ger that I get the impression for other comedians in Dublin that he's somewhat looked up to, but he reveals it's not because of his talent as a comedian... We speak about Ger's job of being a video editor for live sporting events and some short films he'd made in the past in particular Bealtaine, a short about an old neighbour who brought back a dying tradition to Mayo. We talk then about how and why Ger got into comedy. Ger's speaks then about putting the foot down in comedy recently and about how the more you put into performing regularly the more you'll get out of it. We speak about the comedy scene in Dublin, the advantages and disadvantages to gigging to a lot of tourists and people who don't regularly attend comedy and how as new comics you have to be willing to work hard and do the small gigs before getting the bigger ones.

We dig a bit deeper then on the subject and discuss why we don't see enough comedy on Irish television. We get onto Jesters Comedy then. Regular listeners will know that the Jesters name pops up a lot when we have guests based in Dublin on the show and it was the reason I wanted to speak to Chris. We get into comedy promotion here and how he runs the nights and why he decided that instead of just hosting regular open mic and guest nights he wanted to challenge the comedians gigging in Dublin with themed nights and challenges. We speak about the different themed-nights, Jesters Raw, Jesters Weird, Jesters Surprise and Jesters Politics, that he runs and why he decided on them. We speak about the workshop Chris holds every year in October to help new comedians with their gigs at the following year's Edinburgh Festival, he offers advice on things like who to apply to, organising where to stay, technical aspects of venues and more besides. While there he documented his life with a very funny web series called Hey France on his YouTube channel. We speak about how and why Steve got into comedy, and popping two cherries on the night of his first gig. We speak more about being Irish comedian of the year, the competition. What doors have been opened for him and if he feels any pressure thanks to the award. We speak about how Steve uses music in his act and we get talking about music comedy albums. And we even get a new tune.

http://thecomedycast.com Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from Irish stand-up comedian Jonathan Sheehan. We kick off the conversation talking about my recent run in with a South African record producer company, sorry, it was just something I had to get off my chest. Jonathan hails from Tullamore in Co. Offaly so we chat about the 3 things I know about Tullamore, Irish hiphop, whiskey and a former Irish Taoiseach, or Prime Minister, and he fills me in with more local knowledge Jonathan used to run comedy nights in the Irish midlands, exotic places such as Mullingar and Birr, so we spoke about everything involved with putting on comedy in provincial towns in Ireland. We speak about what Jonathan does for a living and how he used to use it for material for his sets. We chat then about how and why Jonathan got into comedy and he speak about a comedy course he took before his first gig. We have a natter then about why so many Irish people emigrate to Australia and how not going, like most of the parish did, worked out better for him. Then we get on to his comedic influences and the comedy he watched on television growing up. We speak then about how he works on his sets and he tells me the greatest Lethal Weapon joke I've ever heard. Finally then we get talking about improv comedy then and Jonathan spills the beans and reveals some secrets not known outside the murky world of improv.

http://thecomedycast.com/ Hello and welcome back to The Comedy Cast; today you’ll be hearing from Irish stand-up comedian Alex Byrne. We kick off the interview in unusual fashion and speak about peanut butter and jam, or jelly, sandwiches, I'd just discovered them and wanted to share their amazement with the world. Alex comes from Lucan in Dublin, so we get the lowdown on the village withing a city's borders. We speak about Alex being half stand-up comedian, half magician, and not half-Michiganian, coz I'd thought I seen the word Michigan when I should've been reading magician and proceeded to make a right tit of myself. We chat then about what attracted Alex to magic in the first place and about what he does for a living. He reveals a great tactic for getting rid of drunks that want to talk about his job on nights out. Alex has previously attended Dublin's Gaiety School of Acting so I wanted to know more about its acting courses, what he learned from it and what has been transferable to stand-up comedy. Alex enjoys gigging all over Ireland so we speak about whether he finds there's differences between city and country audiences. We speak about Alex's influences; Fr. Ted & Fawlty Towers both get a special mention. And finally then, we tackle that old myth about comedians being miserable and needing the validation and love of strangers.

http://thecomedycast.com Laura will be instantly recognisable to anyone that has seen any of the Facts videos. If you've not heard of Facts, it's a massive YouTube channel that makes videos of Irish comedians commenting on things like watching American TV shows, trying Polish desserts and watching Star Wars for the first time. We start off the interview by speaking about how much Laura's been gigging all over Ireland lately. We speak too about coming from a place in Dublin with a mad name; Stepaside and it turns out we used to be neighbours, yes, Ireland's a small place. We get ont comedy then and spoke about how and why she got into it; starting with her getting involved with the Drama Society while in college and how she used to write plays while studying. We spoke too about how when she started her comedy career she had to battle with shyness, and how to get past it she almost plays a role while going onstage. We have a natter then about Laura's love for music and we find something in common that I thought only I suffered from. Laura tells me then about the responsibility she feels onstage and how brightening up somebody's day is one of the best feelings to have when coming off stage. We get onto Facts then and we speak about it; how she got involved, its huge success and how it's great for improvisation skills. We talk then about the bizarreness of being watched by 100,000s of viewers on every video yet still being fairly anonymous in her daily life. We chat then about some of the weird things that have appeared on the internet about her thanks to the videos. I noticed during the interview that Laura's pretty harsh on herself so we spoke about that for a bit, she describes herself as an optimistic pessimist, something I can definitely identify with as you'll hear.

http://thecomedycast.com/ Tara Flynn will be well-known to anyone that has even the slightest interest in the Irish comedy scene and before hanging up her stand-up microphone to concentrate on writing was a regular face on the stand-up scene all over the world. We started off then talking about where Tara's from in Ireland and why she has a definite Irish accent but one that's hard to exactly place. Tara is well-known in Ireland too for appearing on approximately 20 million radio ads and when you have a voice as pure lovely as her it's easy to understand why she's in demand. But I had to ask her if she'd ever thought of getting into radio presenting. Lord knows Irish radio could do with a dose of humour on the airwaves. That led us on to talking about how to get projects from the pitch and script phase to actually getting it made and she revealed that she's currently working on a new book and a TV show. We spoke then about Tara's previous two books "You're Grand" and "Giving Out Yards" and about how a satirical look at Irish life has led her into taking a more serious approach to writing and to becoming, accidentally, involved in activism. Tara then spoke about why she gave up her career in stand-up after 10 years and why she feels that the big issues we're being faced with deserve more than just a comic response and how they should be tacked head on, protested against and goes into how direct action is needed. We returned to comedy then and spoke about how and why Tara got into comedy and how she had been an actor before embarking on a successful career in stand-up comedy. She spoke too about her undying love for improv comedy and that she still loves to performs with Dublin Comedy Improv. We spoke about Tara's regular articles over on the excellent Headstuff.org and they types of issues she writes about weekly. Finally then we spoke about Tara's activism regarding the Repeal the 8th movement in Ireland; a movement in Ireland asking for a referendum on abortion rights and about why she's proud of being a Social Justice Warrior.

http://thecomedycast.com Martin's a Dublin man and recently he's been hitting a lot of peoples' radars in Ireland thanks to his particular style of comedy. While still certainly new to the scene you can definitely see his progression as a comedian from his material on YouTube. We kicked off the interview like any two Irishmen, we bitched about the weather, we spoke too about being raised in Cabra in Dublin, a place with a bad reputation, but really that's all it is. We spoke about Martin's surname Angolo, his Namibian roots and his mother's experiences when moving to Dublin to work as a nurse. We talked too about how and why Martin got into comedy and how he actually see stand-up comedy as a stepping stone to other things; his desire to be a comedy writer and certainly not an actor, as hereveals why he doesn't have much time for actors. We also spoke about about Martin's experience growing up in Dublin as a black person, I was nervous asking that question I won't lie. I've heard some bad stories from black friends at home. We talked then about Martin's comedic influences growing up and how his mother's taste in comedy was a huge influence on him. Martin decides to turn the tables on me about halfway through and I get a grilling about the podcast. We speak too about Martin's writing process and how he works on his act. And we spoke about how Martin's act has evolved over the years away from one-liners to being more anecdotal or more 'truthful' as he himself says. We speak about the first time Martin died on his arse and how he picked himself back up from it and finally we talk about the supportive nature of the comedy scene in Dublin.

Thanks again for joining us here at The Comedy Cast. http://thecomedycast.com Regular listeners will know that I'm a massive fan of what's going on in Northern Ireland's comedy scene, indeed the whole culture scene up there. Finally there's a generation of people taking to the stage in their chosen medium who aren't burdened with the yoke of 'The Troubles' and they're emerging from and showing the rest of us the new Northern Ireland. Marcus Keeley is a man that will be more than well-known to comedy nerds in Ireland, not only because of his unique take on comedy, but also for his work putting and promoting gigs. We start off by talking about coming from Northern Ireland and how he enjoys living under a constant vibe of tension, how 'it could all kick off at any time'. We have a chat too about Marcus moving to Norwich for university and nearly being murdered by a British Royal Marine for no other reason that he was from Northern Ireland. When we got onto comedy I discovered that Marcus' stage career had actually begun with poetry so we spoke about that for a while, slam poetry gets a special mention. We had a talk too about Marcus involvement with improv comedy, most recently with Wonderfrog, a really excellent Belfast-based improv group (video below). We speak too about Marcus' love for making videos and we speak about some of the ones on his excellent YouTube channel. Finally then we speak about Voicebox Comedy, a comedy night that Marcus ran for years in Belfast, most recently in LOFT. A disused art gallery that recently was knocked down. Voicebox is on a bit of a break but he tells me he's hopefully of it coming back in the future

This is a rebroadcast of the Robbie Bonham interview from October 6th. Today you'll be hearing from Irish comedian Robbie Bonham. Robbie will be well-known to anyone that follows the Irish comedy scene, he's been gigging for many years now and is renowned for his honesty and his dealing with personal issues while on stage. This was a real education for me; to speak to a comedian in a time of real transition, as someone who has to deal yet again with alcoholism, relationship difficulties and depression, while also re-entering education as an adult and trying to re-find his place in comedy. Robbie's a bit of a hero of mine as you'll hear in the podcast and I wish him well for the future and I hope that we can speak again on the podcast because I feel he has a lot more to say regarding comedy and I strongly feel that his comedic talents have been somewhat overlooked in Ireland, but hopefully in the years to come he'll finally get the recognition and praise he deserves.

Today you're going to be hearing from one of Northern Ireland's most hotly-tipped stand-up comedians, Micky Bartlett. Listeners will certainly have heard his name before on the Graeme Watson episode and you all know by know that I have a major thing for the current Northern Irish comedy scene so I had to get Micky on as a guest. We had a great laugh together, really did. Micky has to be one of the most relaxed comedians we're ever had on and it felt far more like a conversation over a pint than an interview. Nonetheless we nattered about how and why he got into comedy, ducking out of comedy for two full years after dying on his arse one night and making videos with, and being the victim of, the very talented Colin Geddis. We spoke too about Micky's influences, growing up in Northern Ireland; while some of his friends wanted woolly faces all he wanted to do was play Streets of Rage. We spoke too about STIs and trying to make doctors laugh, his successful stint on the BBC Northern Ireland panel show Monumental and dealing easily with being labelled as Northern Ireland's next big stand-up comedian. It was an absolute pleasure to talk to Micky, he's a real what you see is what you get and although this is for a podcast you get what I mean. His stand-up show is nothing short of utterly hilarious and I sincerely thing he's only a couple of more tours away from greatness.
