We're back to discuss BÖC's third album Secret Treaties (1974). It's a lot of things: definitely their first gold LP, probably their weirdest, and possibly their most thematically consistent. Inarguably it is a creative triumph for Eric Bloom (while ironically also serving as a creative low point for Buck Dharma). This is a big one, folks. Let's get into it! This week, we received our annual audit visit from corporate! That's right, The Chairman not only graced us with his presence, but he demanded we deliver to you this episode: “Grave Mistake: BÖC Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. One could argue that selling 24M albums would negate “Shoulda Been Huge” treatment. However, when most folks can only name 3 songs by this band, and one of them is due to an SNL skit, we think they fit the bill. This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category; however, there is a strong case to be made that they've been largely forgotten as innovators and architects of what we know as heavy metal. We think they should be remembered as titans of hard rock and metal! Hope ya dig!Songs this week include:Blue Öyster Cult - “Transmaniacon MC” from Blue Öyster Cult(1972)Blue Öyster Cult - “The Red & The Black” from Tyranny And Mutation (1973)Blue Öyster Cult - “Flaming Telepaths” from Secret Treaties (1974)Blue Öyster Cult - “Tenderloin” from Agents Of Fortune (1976)Blue Öyster Cult - “R.U. Ready 2 Rock” from Spectres (1977)Blue Öyster Cult - “The Vigil” from Mirrors (1979)Blue Öyster Cult - “Monsters” from Cultosaurus Erectus (1980)Blue Öyster Cult - “Joan Crawford” from Fire Of Unknown Origin (1981)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
VTA MAT Heavy Ball training myth Stability vs Mobility
This week Capt. Content reminds us that something unique happened in the 90s with “Classic Rock” radio where they completely omitted any new contributions musically from the bands. In the 90's, the “Legacy Act” tag hadn't hit yet and bands were still trying to be true to themselves, but still be relevant. We're playing the Lost and Forgotten songs released during the Alternative Rock era from bands that we all know and love. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Many of the classic 60s-70s bands were still writing and delivering new musical content into the 90s. Go and check out these songs and the albums that they come from! Songs this week include:The Doobie Brothers – “Showdown” from Brotherhood (1991)Nazareth – “Steamroller” from Move Me (1994)Blue Öyster Cult – “Cool Grey Light Of Dawn” from Heaven Forbid (1998)Electric Light Orchestra Part II – “Whiskey Girls” from Moment Of Truth (1994)Foghat – “Motel Shaker” from Return Of The Boogie Men (1994)38 Special – “Deja Voodoo” from Resolution (1997)Emerson, Lake & Palmer – “Black Moon” from Black Moon (1992)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

The Jeremy White Show welcomes Eric Bloom from Blue Oyster Cult! We talk about some famous concert bills they've been apart of, how Tony Iomi is holding up the release of the infamous concert they did together, losing all their vintage gear during Hurricane Sandy, how GHOST STORIES was recorded and made from vintage analog tapes and so much more! He also tells stories of some bands that weren't neccerasily that nice to them over the years... all of that and more! After the resounding success of their 50th Anniversary celebration, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT is eagerly gearing up for an exciting new chapter in their storied career with the upcoming release of 'Ghost Stories.' This highly anticipated album marks a fitting finale to the recording legacy of one of rock's most iconic fixtures from the past 50 years. In a thrilling partnership with Frontiers Music, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT is set to captivate fans with a collection of reimagined and newly completed songs that span from 1978-2016. These musical treasures, long considered 'lost gems' by BLUE ÖYSTER CULT enthusiasts, were originally recorded between 1978 and 1983, except for one track from 2016, "If I Fell." Also included is the only known studio recording of their concert classic “Kick Out the Jams” (MC5 cover). Some of the material is from sessions workshopping material for an album, some is from performance rehearsals. All were recorded once in the hopes that someday they'd see the light of day. George Geranios, the band's original audio engineer and an integral part of the band's golden years, co-produced the original 1978-83 recordings along with BÖC. All were originally recorded on reel-to-reel analog tape. They were later transferred to digital audio, which is when modern AI and magical musical talents met and the collection of vintage multi-track recordings was de-mixed, re-mixed, and produced by Steve Schenck and Richie Castellano to become 'Ghost Stories. Work in the studio for the album was completed by Richie Castellano along with remaining original members Eric Bloom and Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser, both Albert Bouchard and Rick Downey appear on drums with additional overdubs recorded by Joe Bouchard. All these original lineup members appearing on 'Ghost Stories,' create a musical journey that traverses decades. To celebrate this exciting announcement, the band shares the single "So Supernatural" along with a new music video that has a super cool blend of classic rock and modern AI. My guest on this episode of Talkin' Rock is Blue Oyster Cult's Eric Bloom. This is the first time we've talked and I found him to be very easy to speak with. For those of you in the southeast Michigan area, B.O.C is playing the Royal Oak Music Theater on February 25th. Eric is looking forward to the show, but he seemed happier to be coming to Detroit for a slice or two of Detroit-style pizza. LOL I asked Eric to recall something about the famed "Black and Blue" tour with Black Sabbath in the early 80s. He fondly spoke about the tour, playing Madison Square Garden, and more. We also talked about the cultural impact that the band had. From the "Cowbell" scene on SNL, to use in horror movies. He spoke to not being aware of the use of "Don't Fear The Reaper" in the original Halloween movie. Speaking of movies, yes, Eric is a Godzilla fan! "Buck wrote the song, but we used to make Godzilla jokes in the band house." He also told me about some new live vinyl albums that are dropping this year. They recorded some special shows last year and they're dropping them throughout the year. He also let the cat out of the bag that they're going to be releasing some unheard B.O.C before the summertime. This is going to have to satisfy the diehard fans because he doesn't see them making any new music anytime soon. A few weeks back while talking to David Ellefson, he brought up GHOST and said they reminded him of Blue Oyster Cult. Eric doesn't see it "I don't sorta get it, but other people might think so." We also talked about Metallica, his video game addiction, Spinal Tap, and more. Fun conversation with Eric on Talkin' Rock!

Guitar icon Jeff Beck has died at 78. Bacterial Meningitis was the cause of his sudden death Tuesday, only announced Wednesday. In this feature, hear from the guests of 2022 - in chronological order - who shared stories connecting to Jeff Beck - singer Joss Stone, Yardbirds' drummer Jim McCarty, guitarist Joe Satriani, and Blue Oyster Cult singer/guitarist Eric Bloom. Next month we'll feature an Ozzy Osbourne interview we recorded in December, which also includes stories about Jeff, who performed on two tracks on Patient Number 9, the latest Ozzy album.
HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Blue Oyster Cult original member and co-founder, guitarist/singer Eric Bloom, ahead of their Sunday show at the Hawaiʻi Theatre. He shares fun stories from the band's debut gig at the Fillmore East opening for some of the biggest stars in rock at the time, to how musician Patti Smith has a fascinating connection to the band that may surprise more casual fans of both artists. He also shared fun stories about their famous audition for record mogul Clive Davis at Columbia Records, and the origins — and fun stories — about their famous band symbol.
If you grew up in the 70s & 80s like we did, you knew Blue Oyster Cult for their radio hits Don't Fear (The Reaper), Burnin for You and Godzilla. Or you might know them from Fast Times at Ridgemont High - "No I don't have any Blue Oyster Cult, I ate 34 pairs last time around - where were you?" Of course children of the 90s will never forget the famous Cowbell Sketch with Christopher Walken. But Blue Oyster Cult are still touring after 50 years and we want to explore their legacy with the man who has literally written the book on BOC (several books, actually), Martin Popoff. We ask Martin to recall how he found the band as a young man, saw them play live, got Eric Bloom's autograph on a $1 bill and interviews he conducted with band members over the years. In addition to their string of successful gold & platinum releases over the years, we explore how success, MTV and outside influences led to their demise. Plus The Wolf laments on the various missed opportunities he's had to see them live over the years.History in Five Songs with Martin Popoff Podcastwww.martinpopoff.comwww.martinpopoff.caUgly American Werewolf in London WebsiteTwitterInstagramYouTubeLInkTreewww.pantheonpodcasts.com

Of course children of the 90s will never forget the famous Cowbell Sketch with Christopher Walken.

In this episode we welcome heavy metal expert Deborah Frost, Zooming in from her native New York City, and invite her to talk about her career as a writer and musician.Deborah reminisces about the all-girl "female Dolls" Flaming Youth, in which she drummed in the early '70s, and then explains how she came to write her first pieces for Circus in 1977. She talks about her love of hard rock and heavy metal, and about contributing to Rolling Stone and the Village Voice — including her acclaimed 1985 Voice piece 'White Noise: How Heavy Metal Rules', with its unflattering descriptions of the drug-and-groupie-addled Mötley Crüe.From the Crüe we segue into another great "umlaut" metal band, one beloved of Deborah's co-hosts Barney, Martin & Jasper. Yep, we're talking about Blue Öyster Cult, to whose drummer Albert Bouchard our guest was once married. After Barney & Martin attempt to do justice to what made the Cult so uniquely brilliant, we hear clips from 1978 audio interviews with the group's Allen Lanier& Eric Bloom, while Deborah talks about the "rock-critical" role played in the BÖC's development by Sandy Pearlman, R(ichard) Meltzer & punk poetess Patti Smith. An abrupt shift takes us into the amazing world of Grace Jones and her curation of the 2022 Meltdown festival in London. Guest and hosts alike celebrate the iconic Jamaican transgressor, focusing particularly on the Island albums she made at Chris Blackwell's Compass Point studios in the early '80s. Deborah also dumbfounds us with a story about getting naked in a New York sauna with Grace and her beefy boyfriend Dolph Lundgren. There's bonus audio in the form of Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis, talking in 2015 to Coup De Main's Pip Williams. Foals fan Jasper introduces the clips and — in the week that sees the release of their new album — explains why he rates his fellow Oxonians so highly. After that, he takes us through recent RBP library pieces added by the holidaying Mark Pringle, including Max Jones' 1959 Melody Maker homage to the departed Billie Holiday and Calvin Bush's 1998 Muzik profile of Jungle king Goldie. Many thanks to special guest Deborah Frost. Find out more about her and her writing on her RBP writers page.Pieces discussed: How Heavy Metal Rules, Rock Criticism as Brain Surgery, Allen Lanier audio, Eric Bloom audio, Grace Jones in 1977, Grace Jones in 1980, Chris Blackwell's Compass Point studios, Foals' Yannis Philippakis audio, Billie Holliday R.I.P., Goldie and Odell's disco.

Albert Bouchard is best known as a founding member of Blue Öyster Cult. The original line-up sold millions of albums for Columbia Records, with such classic songs as “(Don't Fear) The Reaper” and the #1 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart “Burning For You”. Contributing to songwriting, drums, and lead vocals on some of their greatest songs, such as “Cites on Flame with Rock and Roll”. With the success of “Re Imaginos” last year, Albert Bouchard is now back with “Imaginos 2 – Bombs Over Germany (minus zero and counting)”, continuing the Trilogy of Imaginos, a concept album about an alien conspiracy that is brought to fruition during the late 19th and early 20th century through the actions of Imaginos, an agent of evil. The album weaves scripts and poems by the late Sandy Pearlman. It features guests Ross The Boss (Dictators), Joe Cerisano (Silver Condor, TSO), and reunites original Blue Öyster Cult members Eric Bloom, Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser and Joe Bouchard, as well current BOC member Richie Castellano, who all contribute to this latest installment. The album also features reworks of classics like “Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll”, “The Red and the Black”, and “Dominance and Submission”. The first single from the album is “OD'd On Life Itself” and Albert had this to say about it, “This version of OD'd On Life Itself is a very different take on the song that was recorded for BOC's second album, Tyranny and Mutation. The lyrics return to the original lyrics written by Sandy Pearlman, much less sarcastic and much more spooky. The track reflects that change with a simpler and more spacious arrangement with just acoustic guitar, mysterioso guitar, violin, drums and bass. The stand out lyrics are “Don't you fear this trade in lives” and “This wedding by heaven was made up in hell” which portend to the darker nature of this second act in the Imaginos saga.”

One of the most legendary rock bands in history is the band Blue Oyster Cult. With their slogan of "On Tour Forever" of course they'd be one of the first bands we'd get to see live post pandemic. Oh and let's not forget there's that whole SNL skit about needing more cowbell, (and yes we talked at length about it.) Plus they put out a new album in 2020 that's full of classic BOC riffs and harmony's. It is an absolute honor to have on the Rockcast lead singer, Eric Bloom.

There's a new B.O.C. album dropping this Friday, The Symbol Remains, so Eric Bloom came on the podcast to talk about it. He answered questions about why they haven't put out any new music in the past two decades, we talked about some of the material & the title of the album. I HAD to ask him about the "cowbell" scene and any thoughts about any 50th anniversary plans. Leading in today's virtual world changes how we influence others. In a traditional work environment we see each other – in the virtual office, how we see each other and interact is different. We also talk about how behavioral styles differ in a virtual environment and shares secrets about how to be more effective, not just as leaders, but also for every team member to work more effectively with colleagues.
Blue Oyster Cult co-founders Buck Darma and Eric Bloom have led the journey for the band since forming in 1971. Throughout the years, this hard-charging band has sold over 25 million albums. In 2008, the band was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. Award-winning program director Ray White caught up with Buck and Eric, in their touring van (on the boardwalk) after a gig at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. They shared their thoughts about their last studio album The Curse of the Hidden Mirror, the release of the 17-disc boxed set and much more. After nearly 20 years, the band will be releasing a new studio album in the Fall of 2020 titled, The Symbol Remains. In our "showcase segment," we feature two giants from the rock world during the 1970's - Deep Purple, who just released Woosh! and Kansas, whose latest project is titled The Absence of Presence. Get Ready...Set...Rock, with Classic Artists Today!!

In 1977 Leonard Mogel began publishing a dark, illustrated, steampunk, and somewhat erotic science fiction and fantasy magazine called Heavy Metal, and in 1981 an adult animated sci-fi fantasy film by the same name was produced by Mogel and Ivan Reitman. The film would become a mainstay of the midnight movie circuit (along with “the Rocky Horror Picture Show”) throughout the 1980's, and would also lead to a hit album which would peak at number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart. The movie mirrors a comic book, in that it strings together a number of shorter vignettes into an entire animated movie. The shorts are loosely held together by the frame of the Loc Nar, an orb that is the ultimate evil.Filled with terrific rock tracks, the soundtrack would become mired with legal issues, causing the CD to not be released until 1995. If you wanted to hear it before that, you needed to buy the LP.We're only giving you a taste of this album, folks. You really should download and listen to it in its entirety. Friend of the show Andy Burt stands in for Bruce in this one way ticket to midnight. Heavy Metal (Takin' a Ride) by Don FelderThis is the title track by once and future Eagles alumnus Don Felder. Fellow Eagles alumni Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit also contribute backing vocals. The track would be the only Felder solo effort to chart, appearing at number 43. The music is associated with the film episode entitled B-17. Veteran of the Psychic Wars by Blue Oyster CultPenned by Eric Bloom and British author Michael Moorcock, this song appears in the story entitled Harry Canyon. John Candy voices the Sergeant in this segment. The song itself reflects a futuristic soldier exhibiting PTSD. Heavy Metal by Sammy Hagar“Headbangers in leather!” This song was written for the movie. “It's a one-way ticket to midnight! Cal it - Heavy Metal.” This iconic track is played in the segment called So Beautiful & So Dangerous. The Mob Rules by Black SabbathThe short entitled Taarna contains this track. Ronnie James Dio is the front man for this iteration of Black Sabbath. "If you listen to fools, the mob rules." This is the concluding vignette from the film.“Reach Out” by Cheap TrickWayne doubles up with his out-of-order staff pick, from the Heavy Metal Soundtrack. This track also takes place in the Taarna vignette. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK“Bad Moon Rising” by Credence Clearwater Revival"An American Werewolf in London" was on the big screen at this time, with some amazing special effects in this day. CCR contributed this song as the theme of the film. STAFF PICKS:“Gemini Dream” by The Moody BluesBrian's staff pick comes from a synthesizer heavy hit from prog rock superstars The Moody Blues. It hit number 12 on the charts, and comes from their album "Long Distance Voyager." Justin Hayward and John Lodge co-wrote this song. “Really Wanna Know You” by Gary WrightRob brings us another synth-heavy hit from the artist best known for "Dreamweaver." Wright worked closely with ex-Beatle George Harrison, and developed an affinity for eastern religion which permeates his music.“Hold on Tight” by E.L.O.Guest Andy finishes off our staff picks with this somewhat Rockabilly boogie number 2 charting track from the Electric Light Orchestra. It is off their sci-fi themed album “Time.” At the time, it was the most expensive video produced. Interestingly, it only hit number 24 in France despite the fact that it has french lyrics in the song. COMEDY/INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:“Birdy Song” by The TweetsBruce gets blamed for this comedy song choice to finish off an otherwise awesome podcast.

The Cyrkle - Camaro (1967) Pretty good for your 60s ad featuring rock group. They did the soundtrack for the film "The Minx" in 1967, which (unknown to them) was later retooled to include sex scenes for the 1969 audience. Showbiz is the best. The Dave Pell Singers - Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town (1969) Dion - Purple Haze (1968) Elvis Presley - She's A Machine (1968) The Golddiggers - Shuffle Off To Buffalo (1968?) From Wikipedia: The Golddiggers was a female singing and dancing troupe that performed in the style of Las Vegas showgirls. The group was formed in 1968. The act debuted on The Dean Martin Show, and was later featured in a summer replacement television series over three seasons. In addition to backing Martin on his show and in his nightclub act, the group performed on their own on other TV programs, in live venues, and in three of Bob Hope's Christmas tours. Several members of the original (1968–73) troupe continue to perform as "The Golddiggers", while other former group members perform in other acts, in groups or as solo artists. On June 20, 1968, they debuted in their own weekly summer variety series, Dean Martin Presents The Golddiggers. The program was the top-rated series of the 1968 summer season, and returned the following July (1969) – with a somewhat altered lineup of performers – once again serving as the summer replacement series in Dean Martin's Thursday night time slot The Golddiggers recorded three albums, the first in early 1969, when Metromedia Records released “The Golddiggers” (MD1009), and within only a few months, released a second album, “The Golddiggers, We Need a Little Christmas” (MD 1012). In 1971, RCA Corporation released their third album, “The Golddiggers… Today” (LSP-4643). "It got to the point where it got too expensive to have so many girls... they weren't being treated very fairly... It was getting really bad for the girls so they all got together and said, 'We're not going to do this anymore' and they all quit". - Neil Daniels, former NBC VP and founder Dean Martin Fan Center. Jayne Kennedy, host on CBS' NFL Today, was a Golddigger, as well as Cathy Lee Crosby. John Keating - I Feel The Earth Move (1972) ? - People singing jingles. Probably 1975 or so. ? - Ring Dang Doo (?) Manhattan Strings - (Theme From) The Monkees - (1967) "The Italian Stallion" movie ad. The Partridge Family - Summer Days (1971) Scott Walker - Next (1968) Sesame Street Rhyming Stuff

Get ready for some "Space Rock" as Pat welcomes Nate Treese back to the Guest Co-Host chair to discuss the recording career of Blue Öyster Cult.
Yeah, yeah, we know, I got a fever, yadda yadda. At this point, Blue Öyster Cult are probably best known for the 2000 Saturday Night Live sketch “More Cowbell,” where Christopher Walken repeatedly demands that the band play up the faint cowbell in their 1975 hit single “(Don't Fear) The Reaper,” and we all had a good laugh. But the sketch barely scratches the surface of the fascinating, strange depths of BÖC's music. The band started off as basically a vessel for the vision of rock critic Sandy Pearlman, who filled their lyrics with convoluted mythology and gave the band rock music's very first decorative umlaut. And despite their goal of being “the American Black Sabbath,” BÖC didn't really sound like any rock music of the time, to the point where Eric Bloom could call his rhythm guitar “stun guitar” and nobody would think to ask why. In this episode, Phil leads Dan, Mike, and Rich through Secret Treaties, the pinnacle of the band as a cohesive vision, featuring a lyrical cameo by Patti Smith and the story of a U.S. Supreme Court justice who steals people's eyeballs. You know, like people do. Lettuce a funk collective known for their infectious live performances, took a sonic turn last year at the Catskill Chill in Lakewood Pennsylvania and completed a set of music, a tribute to the late great Miles Davis one of their most beloved influences. Seven tracks from that performance will be released on October 13th, as part of a hand-picked live record called Witches Stew. During a break in Lettuce’s tour schedule I had the chance to catch up with trumpeter Eric Bloom to discuss the Witches Stew project, Miles Davis’ impact on the music he and Lettuce make, and much more. I started by asking Eric about filling the shoes of Reshawn Ross, one time trumpeter of Lettuce who now hangs with the Dave Matthews Band…. The Paul Gough Audio Experience: Business Lessons for Physical Therapists
In this Audio Experience I talk a little about Facebook - and how it's changed so rapidly lately as a source of new leads for a Practice… As well as that, I talk about how in the world of Direct Marketing, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to pin-down EXACTLY what activity you did, was responsible for the call… That doesn't mean it isn't working - it's just getting harder to track. Big difference. The DANGER of that is this: it's tempting to run an ad and if you don't get told by the patient - within a few days - that it was directly from “that” one particular Marketing Campaign, you can easily think it isn't working… Yet, it's often the case that they will see you somewhere FIRST - like a Newspaper Ad or a Facebook Video - and that influenced their decision to consider you, and then, when they are ready, they will head over to your Website to make the call… That means when you or your receptionist asks, “How did you hear about us?” - They will tell you, “the internet”. But was it really the internet? - Or was that just the last place the person looked to find your number? I put it to you that accepting and understanding this fundamental shift in people's behaviour patterns, could be the key to your clinics long-term prosperity and marketing success… Thumbnail image: Here I am with an incredible top PT Clinic Owner from Phoenix, AZ, Eric Bloom - outside the White House in Washington D.C. after a great day of learning and talking business at my “More Cash, More Profits” 3-Day Workshop. On our recent live stream, Richie sat down with his Blue Oyster Cult band-mate, Eric Bloom, to discuss video games, TV shows, gear, road stories and more!
Eric Bloom joins us to share what he knows about productivity and it's relationship to growth and profit. As Eric says, "No one cares about productivity. Small business owners care about the time and money it provides. Every minute saved is time we can be finding new customers, building new products or play games with our kids. Every dollar saved provides additional profits, improved cash flow and/or frees up cash to invest in company growth." A former corporate executive, for the past seven years Eric has been the founder and president of Manager Mechanics LLC, a small business specializing in leadership, business skills and productivity training. He is also a keynote speaker, former nationally syndicated columnist, trainer and past President of National Speakers Association (NSA) New England. Ah. Back to an all-clip episode of Succotash, your Comedy Podcast Podcast. We have a cornucopia of clippage for this time around. Mostly new faces or, rather, voices, but some old faves, too. Purposely not clipping any of the "big" shows this time around. I’m talking the shows that get most of the attention from the media and, as a result, keep cropping up at the top of the heap on iTunes, Stitcher, etc. There are a lot of comedy podcasts out there that get short shrift, little notice or just plain ignored. Succotash has been making an effort to beat the bushes for the harder to find podcasts and, if YOU’RE a comedy podcaster and want to get a clip on Succotash, just email us a 3 to 5 minute MP3 snippet from your show! Send it to clips@SuccotashShow.com. I wanted to share a video with you from Frank Cronin, our Irish correspondent. He's finished his summer foray in America and is back on the Emerald Isle - Galway City, to be exact - where he's looking to finish up a college degree. His international travels the past few years have left him a little bereft of ready cash, however, and for the short haul, he's looking for a place near the university to camp until he gets his rent money together. Take a look... All right - let's get to the rundown for the latest episode. Here's what's on tap... I Am IdiotWe’ve featured I Am Idiot with Ben, Howard and Keith from Britain before. This clip - featuring a prank phone call from Howard where he's been challenged to mention the title to every Mel Gibson movie in the course of the conversation - is longer than we usually play. But this one was pretty entertaining so I made an exception. Moment Of ClarityLee Camp is a comedian with an activist bent. He's very active in the Occupy movement. And his podcast, Moment Of Clarity, has 158 episodes or so, meaning he’s got this thing down. Interviews, guest, rants. It’s a pretty heady and often revolutionary blend he offers. Sweet Feathery JesusSFJ is a cross-country, trans-Atlantic affair, with hosts Belasco, Dr. P and Booze in Texas, North Carolina and England, respectively. Some listeners seem to think that Belasco and I sound alike. Not sure about that, but the trio of them are interesting guys, sitting around on the internet, talking. SpoodcastThe teaser for Spoodcast on their homesite reads: “Two Americans, One Canadian, and one American living in Canada walk into a bar. There’s no punchline. That’s the Spoodcast.” One of the co-hosts (and executive producer) is Matthew Dean. Another dude is named Joel. No idea who the other fellows are - more info on the website, guys! Dr. Matt Matthew Dean (see above) also produces and stars in Dr. Matt. This unlicensed head shrinker bills himself as “half Dr. Phil, half Stephen colbert and half Dalai Lama." Ever since our favorite Dr. Feelgood Bob Ducca and his Affirmation Nation went silent back in February, podcasting has needed a self-help guru. Could Dr. Matt be the answer? Maybe so… Combat Radio We played a clip from Combat Radio two episodes ago when Phil Leirness was our guest co-host. I asked Sargent-At-Arms Ethan Dettenmaier for another little taste of the show and he shot us over a short blast with Captain Cool Billy Dee Williams. The Brit & The AmericanThomas Moore and Alba Lewis over at The Brit and The American were so tickled that we played their clip that they recorded a special little thank you in the course of their podcast. I was tickled about that that I'm playing it in this episode. From Out Of Nowhere (aka FOON)We play a first clip from the From Out Of Nowhere podcast — or FOONcast — with hosts Rob Kern and Eric Furniss. It's a music and comedy-oriented show, with lots of guests, such as Marc Maron and Marshall Crenshaw. This clip features the guys’ visit with Blue Oyster Cult singer/guitarist Eric Bloom, and they ask him about the infamous SNL “more cowbell” sketch. Remasculate Comedian Steve "Mudflap" McGrew has been featured on Comedy Central and other TV venues. Now he’s fired up a podcast called Remasculate, featuring various guests including his wife. In this sample, Steve comments on a news article about the Top 10 Hated jobs in America. Proudly Resents We’ve featured Adam Spiegelman before and with good reason: He gets some kickass guests. This time around he chats with Tony Clifton, the sometimes alter ego of late comedian Andy Kaufman and sometimes alter ego of Bob Zmuda. This clip has a great untold Jim Carrey tale. We close out this edition in the usual fashion, with a visit by raging moderate political comedian Will Durst, this time giving us his take on the recently-wrapped Republican National Convention. Until next time, please remember to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon

"More cowbell" is a line from an April 8, 2000 Saturday Night Live comedy sketch about the recording of the song "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" by Blue Öyster Cult. The sketch featured guest host Christopher Walken as music producer Bruce Dickinson and Will Ferrell as fictional cowbell player Gene Frenkle. The line itself has grown into a pop culture catch phrase. The sketch is presented as though it is an episode of VH1's Behind the Music. It begins with what is said to be film from the 1976 recording session that produced the band's biggest hit, "(Don't Fear) The Reaper." The producer (Christopher Walken) introduces himself as "the Bruce Dickinson" and tells the band they have "what appears to be a dynamite sound." The band members are impressed at this compliment because of Bruce Dickinson's supposed high standing in the music industry. The first take of the recording session begins soon after. The recording seems to be going well, but the band stops playing after a few moments because the cowbell part is rather loud and distracting. However, Dickinson feels quite differently and, to the surprise of most of the band, asks for "a little more cowbell" and suggests that the cowbell player, Gene Frenkle (Will Ferrell), "really explore the studio space this time."Frenkle's exuberance in following this advice causes him to bump into his bandmates in the cramped studio, and the band aborts another take. Dickinson enters the studio exasperated at wasting "two good tracks." Frenkle sheepishly agrees to tone down his performance in the spirit of cooperation. Instead, he passive-aggressively plays the cowbell very close to Eric Bloom's (Chris Parnell) ear and fails to keep time with the rest of the band. Frenkle then knocks over Bloom's microphone stand, ending the take prematurely. The rest of the band expresses frustration with Frenkle, but Dickinson remains focused only on getting more cowbell onto the track.Gene Frenkle then makes an impromptu speech to Blue Öyster Cult, declaring that Dickinson's stature lends a great deal of weight to his opinion about the cowbell part, and therefore it is Frenkle's duty to give it his all in playing the cowbell. At the climax of the sketch, Dickinson exclaims: "I got a fever. And the only prescription... is more cowbell!" The band agrees to let Frenkle play the cowbell part his way. As the band begins another take, the sketch ends with a freeze frame on Frenkle with the message: "In Memoriam: Gene Frenkle: 1950-2000."The proceeding was copied and pasted from Wikipedia.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/More_cowbell
