Feliz Navidad oyentes!

You ever see a movie and think, “Damn, that dude needs therapy”? Well, that's Frank Cross, played by the one and only Bill Murray in Scrooged. He's a trash TV exec who hates Christmas so much it's like his side hustle. But don't worry—three ghosts are about to pop up and snatch his edges while teaching him how to be a decent human. It's chaotic, hilarious, and exactly what you'd expect from an 80s holiday comedy starring Murray. This week, we're unpacking all the holiday dysfunction, with jokes flying faster than Santa on Christmas Eve. Scrooged is a wild ride full of laughs, life lessons, and just the right amount of ghostly shade. So grab a drink (spiked, of course), kick back, and tune in. Because at the TruVue Podcast, it's not about the review—it's the conversation with the crew. We bring the barbershop talk to the box office, and we keep it real on the reels. This is NSFW holiday cheer at its finest, folks. Welcome to a Murray Christmas! Bill Murray led film Scrooged as a 1988 re-telling of the classic Charles Dickens story A Christmas Carol, directed by Richard Donner. Four Play examines the success of this modern framing, which sees Murray as television station executive Frank Cross, who undergoes encounters with the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. The film serves up some brilliant satire and witty dialogue, but stumbles at the finish line with a wordy ending and a failure to live up to the meta-narrative the film creates. Our hosts still had fun and memorable time with Scrooged, but as the screenplay writers themselves admitted after the fact, it falls a tad short of being an all-time Christmas classic.

Some of them are relatively clean and fun, but many of them contain at least some, and often plenty of, lewd, outrageous content. "Scrooged" in 1988, directed by Richard Donner, brought a contemporary and comedic twist to Charles Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol." Starring Bill Murray as Frank Cross, a cynical and heartless television executive, the film reimagines the timeless tale with a satirical take on the commercialization of Christmas. The production faced the challenge of blending the traditional holiday themes with Murray's irreverent humor and the film's modern setting. The casting of Murray, known for his comedic prowess, played a pivotal role in defining the film's tone. The production team successfully integrated practical effects and special effects to create the ghostly encounters that guide Cross through his journey of redemption, adding a visually dynamic element to the classic narrative. "Scrooged" also embraced a meta-narrative by incorporating a film-within-a-film concept, where the characters produce a live television adaptation of "A Christmas Carol." This layer of storytelling allowed the film to comment on the entertainment industry and contemporary society's attitudes toward the holiday season. Despite some initial skepticism about the film's unconventional approach to the classic tale, "Scrooged" found success with audiences, becoming a beloved holiday favorite. Bill Murray's charismatic performance and the film's blend of humor, heart, and social commentary contribute to its enduring popularity as a modern Christmas classic. As the head of a major network planning a live adaptation of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," Cross is indifferent to the holiday spirit. However, the supernatural visits force him to confront his past, present, and potential future, revealing the consequences of his callous actions. Guided by the ghosts and influenced by the people around him, Cross undergoes a transformation, rediscovering the joy and compassion he had long abandoned. This modern retelling of a classic tale combines Murray's comedic talent with moments of genuine warmth, delivering a heartwarming and humorous exploration of redemption and the true meaning of Christmas. thevhsstrikesback@gmail.com https://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thevhsstrikesback/support

This ain't no trip to Lapland, and it's not your moms plum pudding. And it's most certainly not a hallucination brought on by Russian vodka poisoned by Chernobyl! What it is, is a Yuletide celebration to rival any stocking stuffer you're sure receive. Let us never forget the sentiments of Frank Cross at this time of year. The most magical moment for humanity. Yule love it!It's Christmas time in Hollis Queens, mom's cooking chicken.....oops, wrong miracle monologue. It's Christmas Eve! It's the one night of the year when we all act a little nicer, we smile a little easier, we cheer a little more. For a couple of hours out of the whole year, we are the people that we always hoped we would be. It's really a sort of a miracle, because it happens every Christmas Eve. And if you waste that miracle, you're gonna burn for it, I know what I am talking about. You have to do something. You have to take a chance. You do have to get involved. There are people that are having trouble making their miracle happen. There are people that don't have enough to eat, or people that are cold. You can go out and say hello to these people. You can take an old blanket out of the closet and say "Here!", you can make them a sandwich and say "Oh, by the way, here!" I get it now! And if you give, then it can happen, then the miracle can happen to you! It's not just the poor and the hungry, it's everybody's who's gotta have this miracle! And it can happen tonight for all of you! If you believe in this spirit thing, the miracle will happen and then you'll want it to happen again tomorrow. You won't be one of these bastards who says "Christmas is once a year and it's a fraud", it's NOT! It can happen every day, you've just got to want that feeling. And if you like it and you want it, you'll get greedy for it! You'll want it every day of your life and it can happen to you! I believe in it now! I believe it's going to happen to me now! I'm ready for it! And it's great. It's a good feeling, it's really better than I've felt in a long time. I'm ready. Have a Merry Christmas, everybody.Shitter's full.

This week we are getting festive with the spooks and talking Scrooged. Learn with us alternate casting, How Much Charles Dickens would be worth in 2021 money and what happened to Tab Clear! --- Scrooged is a 1988 American Christmas fantasy comedy directed by Richard Donner and written by Mitch Glazer and Michael O'Donoghue. Based on the 1843 novella A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Scrooged is a modern retelling that follows Bill Murray as Frank Cross, a cynical and selfish television executive, who is visited by a succession of ghosts on Christmas Eve intent on helping him regain his Christmas spirit. The film also stars Karen Allen, John Forsythe, Bobcat Goldthwait, Carol Kane, Robert Mitchum, Michael J. Pollard, and Alfre Woodard. Scrooged was filmed on a $32 million budget over three months in New York City and Hollywood. Murray returned to acting for the film after taking a four-year hiatus following the success of Ghostbusters, which he found overwhelming. Murray worked with Glazer and O'Donoghue on reworking the script before agreeing to join the project. The production was tumultuous, as Murray and Donner had different visions for the film. Murray described his time on the film as "misery", while Donner called Murray "superbly creative but occasionally difficult". Along with Murray's three brothers, Brian, John, and Joel, Scrooged features numerous celebrity cameos. The film's marketing capitalized on Murray's Ghostbusters role, referencing his encounters with ghosts in both films. Scrooged was released on November 23, 1988, and grossed over $100 million worldwide. The film received a positive response from test audiences, but was met with a mixed response upon its release from critics who found the film too mean spirited or too sentimental. Made for $32 million Scrooged made $100 million at the box office and became a Christmas classic. But, does it hold up? Listen in as Jon, Colin, and Brent, debate the best way to secure antlers to a mouse and how to wrap 4 pounds of veal as we do our best to determine if this one belongs in the past, present, or future of holiday movie viewing experiences.

Chris Pick! Joey CJ and G money talk.. Scrooged  a 1988 American Christmas fantasy comedy directed by Richard Donner and written by Mitch Glazer and Michael O'Donoghue. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Makeup, but lost to the fantasy-comedy film Beetlejuice. In the years since its release, Scrooged has become a regular television Christmastime feature, with some critics calling it an alternative to traditional Christmas films, and others arguing that Scrooged was ahead of its time, making it relevant in the modern day. It has appeared on various lists of the best Christmas films.

Scrooged is a must watch retelling of the classic Christmas story by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. Bill Murray plays one of his most iconic and dramatic roles, Frank Cross, a cynical TV executive wronging his employees and former girlfriend right before Christmas. The star studded cast includes Karen Allen, John Forsythe, and Carol Kane. This film is a comedy but a very dark comedy. The story is great, the special effects, mostly practical, still hold up well today, and the sets are perfect. The three ghosts of Christmas are memorable and unique compared to other tellings of this tale. Scrooged is a holiday classic Mike and Matt watch every year and you should too. Mike gives Scrooged 4 out of 5 Reels. Matt a tad lower awards the film 3.5 out of 5 Reels. Next week the guys review a movie they have reviewed before. The Peacekeeper was Lundgren’s first film with fledging production house, Nu Image, a partnership that is still continuing to this day. Why is Montel Williams in this movie? Just how suave and renegade is Lundgren’s Frank Cross character? How do the special effects hold up today, especially the Mount Rushmore sequence? Christmas movie month is coming to an end this week with a remake of Charles Dickens’ Christmas classic, Scrooged. This modern day update to A Christmas Carol stars Bill Murray as Frank Cross, a big shot TV executive that does not have any holiday cheer in his life. Frank takes his anger and frustrations out on everyone around him and treats most people like dirt until one faithful night when he has a reunion with his old boss’s reanimated zombie, Lew. Lew tells Frank that there is still time to change his ways for the better and that he will be visited by three ghosts. Frank is taken on a journey through the many different Christmases in his life by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. This version of the tale has a much more comedy in it than the original but also takes a few dark turns. Why is Claire’s business card so damn large? What happens to Frank in the real world while he is traveling with the ghosts? Where there any members of the Murray family that were not cast in this movie? How could Eliot be able to return to work after his shooting rampage? Shouldn’t he be looking at some jail time? We hope Santa brought you all the gifts you wanted and that you have a fun and safe New Year’s Eve. Enjoy!

This Christmas season, put a little love in your heart with Paul and AJ as they revisit Richard Donner's 1988 reworking of A Christmas Carol, Scrooged. This year's Twisted Christmas entry stars none other than AJ favorite Bill Murray as soulless TV exec Frank Cross, who is visited by a number of very annoying spirits who try and pummel him into living life to its fullest. The boys discuss Murray's manic-to-dry range, what we're supposed to make of Frank's (and even Scrooge's) character arc, and the interesting decision to cast Carol Kane as the sound of nails on a chalkboard given form. They also invent the mental breakdown Donner surely had on set. This is a weird one. Plus, there's talk of those Star Wars and Jurassic World trailers, if you're into that sort of thing. Next: an all-star jam band of our Sandman compatriots takes place, as the gang turns to the final volume of Neil Gaiman's epic, Vol X: The Wake.
