Send us a textHave you ever wondered if your relationship with God has become one-sided? That striking question opens our exploration into the nature of true fellowship with our Creator. We challenge listeners to honestly reflect: how often do you approach God simply to love Him, without presenting a list of needs?Drawing from the beautiful promise in Lamentations 3:22-23, we discover that God's compassions never fail and are new every morning—a foundation for understanding His desire for genuine relationship. While it's true that God wants us to walk in victory and has given us His Word as a tool for that purpose, there's something profoundly transformative about approaching prayer from a perspective of adoration rather than acquisition. The true power in this message comes from recognizing what happens when we shift our focus. As we spend more time in God's presence, our self-centeredness naturally diminishes. When we sit at His feet in worship, our doubts about His care for us fade away. Problems that once seemed overwhelming "cower at the brightness of his glory" when viewed from His perspective. This isn't merely positive thinking—it's experiencing the reality-altering power of divine communion. We conclude with a practical challenge: approach God today without asking for anything. Simply worship Him, honor Him, and praise Him. This act of selfless adoration not only pleases the heart of God but becomes our most effective spiritual weapon. Like Joshua at Jericho, we discover that praise and worship are how we fight our battles, watching as walls come tumbling down. Your time of fellowship with God isn't just devotional—it's revolutionary.Support the show
In chapters 1-10 of the book of Joshua, the Israelites have successfully conquered several cities in Canaan, including Jericho, Ai, and Gibeon, and defeated the southern kings. In chapter 11, the northern kings, led by Jabin of Hazor, gather a massive army to fight against Israel. Despite the overwhelming force, God reassures Joshua not to fear, promising victory and instructing him to hamstring the horses and burn the chariots. This act symbolizes trusting in God rather than relying on human strength. While the chapter's language may seem harsh, it reflects God's judgment on the wickedness of the Canaanites. The Israelites' victory marks the fulfillment of God's promises made to Abraham, Moses, and Joshua, bringing them into the promised land. Like Joshua, we face battles in our own lives, whether personal struggles or challenges. Yet, God promises to fight for us, urging us to trust Him, obey His guidance, and believe that His strength will prevail even in our weakness, leading to victory and the fulfillment of His promises.
Your Daily Prayer
This week, we reflected on Joshua's journey and how it reveals God's faithfulness in fulfilling His promises. God assured Joshua that He would be with him as He was with Moses, and through bold leadership and courageous faith, Joshua saw waters part, walls fall, and the promised land conquered. Yet, the journey was not without setbacks—when Israel sinned by taking what was devoted to the Lord, they faced defeat, leaving Joshua heartbroken and confused. But instead of despair, he sought God, removed the sin from the camp, and was restored to victory. The promised land life is not without battles, but true victory comes not just in reaching the promise, but in being shaped by the journey. Like Joshua, we walk in courage by trusting that God's promises are greater than our problems, and when we fail, we repent, rise again, and trust the Promise Keeper—knowing that in Christ, we are always led in triumph (John 10:10).
We all try to look clean—through good deeds, reputation, or comparison—but deep down, we know we're not as pure as we seem. Like dirt under our nails, sin isn't just on the surface; it comes from within. The Pharisees washed their hands, but their hearts remained filthy. No amount of effort can scrub away our guilt. The good news? Jesus doesn't ask us to clean ourselves—He makes us clean. Like Joshua in Zechariah 3, God removes our filthy garments and clothes us in righteousness. True purity isn't earned; it's received. Stop using soap—let Jesus make you new.
This week, Caleb reflects on God's grace and kindness and invites us to seek His presence together, Shaping our lives and church to be presence-led, abiding in Him and moving at His direction. Like Joshua, who lingered in God's presence with passion and purpose, we aim to love Him above all, letting everything else flow from His deep connection. January 12th, 2024.
I sought to reorient us by answering 3 questions. What is happening? What is not happening? What can I do about it? I hope we have come to see that we have been under an enemy assault. The purpose is to discourage and dissuade us from moving forward. What I am hoping the full picture gives us is the resolve to continue to stand our ground and in doing so, and a determination to embrace the promised breakthrough into victory. I'm hoping to day that we are able to come together, rally the troops if you will and that we too will decide to push forward into victory. Like Joshua, I'm hoping you will accept the challenge. Whether you do or not, as for me and my house, I/we choose to follow and serve the Lord.
Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them… The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deuteronomy 31:7-8). Many of us have heard the words of our text in one form or another. In several variations, they are repeated throughout the end of Deuteronomy and recur in Joshua 1. They act as a book end here, because in the early chapters God tells Moses to encourage and strengthen Joshua. This is the first transition of leadership that Israel is experiencing. They have spent 40 years in the desert under Moses' leadership, they are on the brink of entering the promised land, but Moses is not going with them. One can imagine that many of the Israelites wondered if Joshua was up to the task; Joshua was not sure that he was. And who would blame him? These words have often been used in the Christian church to commission new leaders. They are fitting for such occasions and should continue to be used to encourage all who are taking on leadership roles within the Christian community. Also, it is good to refer to them whenever Christians are going through strenuous days. The key words in the commissioning are “be strong and courageous” (7). They are not meant merely as a psychological boost. They are based on two great truths. First, the existence of Israel and now the church proves the faithfulness of God. God promised to give them this land. God has invested His reputation in the future of this people and so ultimately, responsibility for them rests on Him. Recall that Moses used this fact to effectively intercede for Israel when God threatened to abandon them (cf. 9:26-29). Jesus launched the church on this foundation. To Peter he said, “I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18). This is the first time the word church is found in the English translations of the Bible. Every participant in the church needs to remember this promise. The very fact that the church exists 2000 years later demonstrates Jesus keeping his word. Secondly, Christian can count on the unfailing presence of God. “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you” (8). According to Matthew Jesus finished his earthly ministry with these words, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (28:20). In John 20, Jesus disciples are afraid. Three times Jesus shows up and says, “Peace be with you” (19,21,26). With these words at the end of his ministry, Jesus is inviting his disciples to remember the transition between Moses and Joshua. Like Joshua took over from Moses, and Elisha from Elijah, they are to take over from him. But there is one big difference, Moses died, Elijah went off to heaven, and Jesus is going there too. But he will be coming back through the Holy Spirit. He will be with them to the very end. He has kept his word from then to now. We can be sure he will keep it till he returns. So Christian, even if you do not have a leadership role in the church, “Be strong and courageous”. Jesus calls you to be his disciple in the classroom, in the kitchen and laundry room, in the office, on the job site, and on the playground. Be strong and courageous, he is with you. As you journey on, go with the blessing of God: May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you: wherever he may send you. May he guide you through the wilderness: protect you through the storm. May he bring you home rejoicing; at the wonders he has shown you. May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.
Joshua has been working closely with Moses. He is the one in the valley fighting while the man of God has his hands raised during the battle. He is a warrior. The time comes for Moses to die. God has raised up Joshua to lead the people into the Promised Land. To be fair, he is not sure he can do it. They have been wandering for forty years without entering the land promised to them. God tells Joshua that it is time to move forward. Today, God may be telling you that it is time to move forward. Like Joshua, you may be unsure that you can do it, but rest assured He can do it through you! Today we are looking at obstacles and barriers. What is keeping you from what God is telling you to do? Joshua 1:2 “Moses My servant is dead; now therefore arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel. 3 Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon, even as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and as far as the Great Sea toward the setting of the sun will be your territory. 5 No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous;
Miia shares on how to "journey like Joshua".
In Joshua 19, we will see the inheritance of seven more tribes of the nation of Israel. Like Joshua, has God placed opposition in the way of your purpose? Do you fight your opposition with toughness and kindness?
We are looking at six lessons we can learn from the Joshua 13-21 as we are claiming our inheritance that God has promised us in Christ. So far, we learned that we don't want to be like the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh that chose their inheritance on the border on the east side of the Jordan River. We don't want to become borderline believers. The second lesson is found in Joshua 14:6-14. Like Joshua and Caleb, we should be encouraged in our pilgrim journey because no matter how long we must wait our inheritance is still available! We learned our third lesson from Caleb in Joshua 14:6-14. We are never too old to fulfill God will and purpose for our lives. Our fourth lesson is found in Joshua 15:13-19, we also learn from Caleb that we have a responsibility to provide and pass on our inheritance and our faith to the next generation. Today, in Joshua chapters 15-17, we will discover our fifth lesson which is: God wants to give all His people their inheritance. In Joshua 14:6-13, we saw where Caleb, who was of the tribe of Judah, claimed his inheritance. Now in Joshua 15:1-12 and verses 21-63, the inheritance of the rest of the tribe of Judah is described. In verse 63, we can't help but notice that at that time the Jews couldn't take Jerusalem from the Jebusites. They held it temporarily later on in Judges 1:8. It was not until we get to 2 Samuel 5:6-10 that we learn that David captured it permanently and made it the capital city of Israel. In Joshua 16, the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh received their inheritance. You might remember that they were the sons of Joseph, whom Jacob "adopted" and especially blessed in Genesis 48:15-22. Since the tribe of Levi wasn't given any territory, these two tribes made up the difference so that there were still twelve tribes in Israel. It is also interesting to note that even though the birth order was "Manasseh and Ephraim" (Josh. 16:4; 17:1), but Jacob reversed it in giving them their blessing. This teaches us that God rejects our first birth and gives us a second birth. He accepted Abel and rejected Cain; He rejected Ishmael and accepted Isaac, Abraham's second-born son; He rejected Esau and accepted Jacob. We must be born again spiritually into the family of God (John 1:12; John 3:3-8), to qualify for our inheritance. In the nation of Israel, the sons inherited the property. But here in Joshua 17:3-6, but the daughters of Zelophehad saw to it that the daughters weren't discriminated against (Numbers 27:1-11). Like the daughter of Caleb, these women had the faith and courage to ask for their inheritance; and they even changed the law! Yes, God wants to give all His people their inheritance. James 4:2 reminds us, "You do not have because you do not ask" In Jesus Christ, all believers are one and are heirs of God (Romans 8:14-17). In Galatians 3:26-29, Paul tells us, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Today, nothing from your first birth should hinder you from claiming all that you have in Jesus Christ! “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 7:11) God bless!
We are looking at seven lessons we can learn from the Joshua 13-21 as we are claiming our inheritance that God has promised us in Christ. Today in Joshua 15:13-19, we also learn from Caleb that we have a responsibility to provide and pass on our inheritance and our faith to the next generation. In this passage we meet Othniel who becomes Caleb's son-in-law, who later became a judge in the land (Judges 3:7-11). Some of Caleb's daring faith obviously rubbed off on Othniel. In verses 18-19, we see how Caleb's faith also touched his daughter Achsah, for she had the faith to ask her father for a field and then for springs of water to irrigate the land. Caleb's example of faith was more valuable to his family than the property he claimed for them. One of the major causes of the problems we are facing in America today is because several generations, including mine, have allow the “Egyptians”, the pagans and heathen of the land, to raise and educate our children with a godless philosophy because we were too busy working to pay for our mortgages, our new cars and other things we wanted trying to keep up with the “Jones” next door. Instead of taking our children to Sunday school and church on Sundays to learn God's Word we were too busy taking them to their sporting events. We were too tired trying to pay for and keeping up with our “things”, that we neglected to have our own devotional time with the Lord, that our children would have seen, and taking the time at dinner and in the evenings to have personal devotions with them. We allowed them to be “baby-sitted” by their electronic devices, television, and social media. As a result, we have raised several generations of young people that don't know the Lord, or the truths and principles found in His Word. The “Great Commandment” given in Deuteronomy 6, included teaching God's Word to our children and grandchildren. Psalm 78:1-8 summarizes this lesson of passing our faith on to the next generation as well as any passage in the Bible. “Give ear, O my people, to my law; Incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done. For He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers, That they should make them known to their children; That the generation to come might know them, The children who would be born, That they may arise and declare them to their children, That they may set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments; And may not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not set its heart aright, And whose spirit was not faithful to God.” May the Lord forgive us and help us realize the importance of this lesson to faithfully pass on our inheritance and faith to our children! God bless!
As we said a few days ago we have one of the greatest miracles ever in the course of human history recorded here in Joshua 10. But before we discuss it, let me ask you a question. Do you need a miracle? Do you need something to take place in your life that is supernatural, something that cannot be explained. If you can explain it, it probably is not a miracle. My friend, today America needs a miracle. It is not that we need a new president, a new congress, or a new anything else. No, we desperately need a miracle! Today we are celebrating our 248th birthday of the Declaration of Independence that took place July 4th, 1776. America is a country that was founded by our forefathers upon Biblical Judeo-Christian principles. These principles made America a good nation, made up of good, God-fearing people. Psalm 33:12 says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD!” Someone said, “America is great because America is good and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great”. We are not sure where this quote originally came from, but it is a Biblical truth. When any nation removes God and His Word from public life and exchanges a Biblical worldview for a secular humanistic world view, that country is on its way down. Sadly, it appears that this is exactly what has happened in America, and we see the consequences everyday with the corruption, violence, murder, materialism, chaos, division, hatred, confusion, all around us. Yet with all the problems America has, and especially after visiting many other countries around the world over the years, I still would personally rather live in America than any other place else in the world. With all of its problems and all of its issues, we are still blessed to live in America. Yes, America needs a miracle if it is to survive! God had already preformed one miracle by sending a hailstorm that was only killing the enemy soldiers (v. 11), but a bigger miracle was needed, and Joshua prayed for it. Joshua prayed for a miracle of extending the day so that he could finish the battle and secure a complete victory over the enemy. His men were weary, and the task was great; and if night came on, the enemy could escape. Joshua needed a special act from God to enable him to claim the victory the Lord had promised. Joshua prayed to the LORD for the sun and moon to stand still (v. 12), and the Lord answered in a remarkable way. God, in His sovereignty and providence, pressed the Pause button on our solar system. This is the last miracle recorded in Joshua and certainly the greatest. We don't need to try to explain away a miracle. Either we believe in a God who can do anything, or we must accept a Christian faith that's non-miraculous; and that does away with the inspiration of the Bible, the Virgin Birth, and the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. Certainly, there's room for honest questions about the nature of the miraculous; but for the humble Christian believer, there's never room for questioning the reality of the miraculous. We are reminded of the many miracles performed by Jesus, and His words in Matthew 17:20, “... I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” Like Joshua we face battles and might have five kings bearing down upon us. Discouragement, deception, defeat, destruction, and death. Their goal is to chase us back into the wilderness. But if we have God and prayer, we have everything we need for a miracle! God's promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14 is still in the Bible! “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” America needs a miracle and today would be a good day to pray for one.
In Joshua 8, the Lord not only gave Israel an opportunity for a new beginning with His word of encouragement, His word of instruction, and His word of promise, He also gave them a new strategy to conquer the city of Ai. God is not only the God of new beginnings, but He's also the God of infinite variety. God changes His leaders, like He did with Moses and Joshua, lest we start trusting flesh and blood instead of trusting the Lord. God also changes His methods lest we start depending on our personal experience instead of on His divine promises. The strategy God gave Joshua for taking Ai was almost opposite the strategy He used at Jericho. The Jericho operation involved a week of marches that were carried on openly in the daylight. The attack on Ai involved a covert night operation that prepared the way for the daylight assault. The whole army was united at Jericho, but Joshua divided the army for the attack on Ai. God performed a mighty miracle at Jericho when He caused the walls to fall down flat, but there was no such miracle at Ai. Joshua and his men simply obeyed God's instructions by setting an ambush and luring the people of Ai out of their city, and the Lord gave them the victory. It's important that we seek God's will for each undertaking so that we don't depend on past victories as we plan for the future. How easy is it for Christian ministries to dig their way into administrative ruts that eventually become graves, simply because the leadership fails to discern whether God wants to do something new for them. The American business leader Bruce Barton (1886-1967) said, "When you're through changing, you're through." The strategy for Ai was based on Israel's previous defeat; for God was organizing victory out of Joshua's mistakes. The people of Ai were overconfident because they had defeated Israel at the first attack, and this overconfidence would be their undoing. "We did it before, and we can do it again!" At night Joshua and his army marched fifteen miles from Gilgal to Ai; and, using 30,000 soldiers, Joshua set up an ambush behind the city from the west (vv. 3-9). He put another 5,000 men between Ai and Bethel, which was about two miles away (v. 12). This detachment would make sure that the army from Bethel wouldn't make a surprise attack from the northwest and open another "front." The rocky terrain in the highlands around Ai made it easy for Joshua to conceal his soldiers, and the whole operation was done at night. The plan was simple but effective. Leading the rest of the Jewish army, Joshua would make a frontal attack on Ai from the north. His men would flee as they had done the first time and by fleeing draw the self-confident people of Ai away from the protection of their city. At Joshua's signal the soldiers lying in ambush would enter the city and set it on fire. The people of Ai would be caught between two armies, and the third army would deal with any assistance that might come from Bethel. Being a good general, Joshua lodged with his army (v. 9). He certainly encouraged them to trust the Lord and believe His promise for victory. The Captain of the host of the Lord (5:14) would go before them because they obeyed His Word and trusted His promises. The work of the Lord requires strategy, and Christian leaders must seek the mind of the Lord in their planning. Like Joshua, we must get the facts and weigh them carefully as we seek the will of God. Too often, the work of the Lord only drifts along on the tide of time, without any rudder or compass to give direction; and the results are disappointing. Our English word strategy comes from two Greek words that together mean "to lead an army." Leadership demands planning, and planning is an important part of strategy. God bless!

Let's Go Crazy - Let's Go Crazy Like Joshua - Bishop Kevin Foreman
Historical Context and Modern ImplicationsAfter crossing the Jordan into the promised land, the Israelites fought the battle of Jericho. Joshua was their leader, and the Lord gave them the victory. In Joshua 24, the general reminds his people of God's faithfulness to them at Jericho and through their history. He ends by making that memorable statement of faith: “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”As Christians in a non-Christian culture, we are also called to take a stand. We can either choose to serve the gods of this world, or the Lord. It's not easy for us, and it wasn't easy for the Israelites. There were temptations everywhere to serve other Gods. That's why Joshua reminds the people over and over, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Be strong and courageous.”In the New Testament, Paul echoes Joshua's call to the Israelites in 1 Corinthians 16:13: “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” It takes courage, determination, and trust in the Lord to withstand the worldly desires and impulses that assault us every day.Facing Today's False GodsSo, what are some of the false gods we deal with today? Larry Burkett used to say that a false god is “anything that detours our commitment to God”. So, anything you focus on, depend on, or put your trust in other than the Lord is a false god, or an idol. Let's look at a few of today's idols:Financial Security can become an idol. You might be depending on your retirement plans, savings accounts, and investment income to see you through, but financial security won't save you in the end.Another false god is government provision. Do you expect welfare programs, federal relief checks, or government handouts to meet your needs? These are only temporary fixes. God is your ultimate provider. For some folks, power is what they trust. Personal status, reputation, and financial influence might seem desirable, but these don't have the power to bring peace.Another idol you'll see everywhere is the idea of personal autonomy. “I did it my way” seems empowering. “Follow your own desires” looks appealing, and “I deserve this” feels right, but all of these represent a world view that puts you on the throne of your life. Selfishness and pride are sins that leave no room for the Lord. It's possible to be strong in a worldly way, either physically, or by sheer human determination. But I don't think that's what Joshua meant when he challenged his people to “be strong and courageous”. True strength is defined by its source, and when the Lord is your source, your strength is from him. Our faith in God is our trust in him to be our strength in times of need.As it says in Psalm 20, God's people can “rise up and stand firm”, because “we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” But what if you don't choose to serve the Lord?Well, the consequences of trusting in false gods are severe. Throughout God's word you'll find warnings against bowing down to idols. Israel suffered God's judgment many times for their unfaithfulness. On the other hand, there are many benefits to trusting the Lord instead of false gods.A Call To Choose ChristOne benefit is a closer walk with Christ. Following biblical principles in your financial choices means you're listening closely to what God wants for you, reading His Word and trusting Christ to lead you. When you invite God into this important area of your life…you'll begin to understand 1 Timothy 6, “godliness with contentment is great gain.”Another benefit that comes with trusting God in your finances is peace. When your financial choices are made “in Christ”, the result is peace, because God is in control. As it says in Romans 8:6, “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”While worldly desires and attitudes will lead people astray, pursuing God's way in your financial life can bring spiritual growth. 1 Peter 2:1-3 gives this advice: “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.”Another benefit to trusting God in your financial life is the blessing of generosity. When we give…willingly and generously…we are acknowledging God's lordship over everything. 1 Chronicles 29:14 says, “…For everything is from you, and we only give you what we have received from you.” You can make your financial decisions according to God's principles…or according to secular, worldly ideas. Like Joshua, you must “choose for yourself this day whom you will serve.” We pray that you will choose to serve Christ, and trust the Lord with everything. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I rolled over my previous annuity to a F&G annuity about two years ago. The way it was presented to me was that I was supposed to make some money and sadly it hasn't grown at all. So I didn't know whether to try to roll it into something else or what. I also have the ability to take out $20,000 a year without any penalties and we've got some house repairs that we wanted to take care of before I retired. Would it be wise to do that? I'm 70 and my wife is 69 and we want to do a reverse mortgage but don't know where to start. We probably owe between 35-40% of the home's value left on the mortgage. We also have an investment in a local credit union where we're getting 5% every 11 to 13 months. Also, do you have any suggestions for how to maintain the lowest prices for home and car insurance since all of those prices seem to be going up? IntroWe're going to look at a leader today who had big shoes to fill. Maybe you can relate to that. Joshua was stepping in for Moses. The man who led Israel out of Egypt and was the mediator between the people and Almighty God. I can only imagine the pressure he must have felt as he stepped into that role. Maybe you have a father-in-law that is a spiritual giant and you feel like you'll never live up as you try to lead your family. Maybe in the corporate world, you've just stepped into a new position and you have big shoes to fill. Whatever it is, I think there are some lessons we can learn today that will help you and encourage you. PointTextCommentIn the Face of AdversityJoshua focused on the character and power of God not the circumstances around him. He knew God would deliver on his promises. Godly leaders stand on God's truth in the face of adversity. Numbers 14:5-12 Then Moses and Aaron fell face down on the ground before the whole community of Israel. 6 Two of the men who had explored the land, Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, tore their clothing. 7 They said to all the people of Israel, “The land we traveled through and explored is a wonderful land! 8 And if the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us safely into that land and give it to us. It is a rich land flowing with milk and honey. 9 Do not rebel against the Lord, and don't be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the Lord is with us! Don't be afraid of them!”But the whole community began to talk about stoning Joshua and Caleb. Then the glorious presence of the Lord appeared to all the Israelites at the Tabernacle.[a] 11 And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will these people treat me with contempt? Will they never believe me, even after all the miraculous signs I have done among them? 12 I will disown them and destroy them with a plague. Then I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they are!”Set context for the scene. Moses had sent out twelve spies to scout out the promised land. Only Joshua and Caleb want to move forward and take the promised land. Talk about harsh criticism - the rest of the people wanted to stone them. Stone them! Now that's a high pressure situation. Story of students who left the classroom and all of the other students were clued in to answer incorrectly to a specific question. By the end of it the vast majority of the students who were out of the room just followed along with the crowd. Joshua and Caleb knew God was on their side. They weren't the underdogs. The other nations didn't stand a chance. Always bugs me when people call the story of David and Goliath an underdog story. David wasn't the underdog. The Lord God Almighty was fighting with him. Goliath was the underdog and he got smoked. Do you know God's promises? The only reason Joshua and Caleb weren't suicidal maniacs is they knew God had promised they would inherit the land. His promise to never leave you or forsake you.His promise to forgive our sins when we confess them. His promise to work all things out for our good.Side note: We can't hold God to promises he never made - prosperity gospel We need to stand when everyone around us is critical. I've come to grips with the fact that there could be a time in my life when I go to prison for speaking God's truth. I hope that's not the case. I don't know what God has in store for our nation. But if something doesn't change, I can see myself being accused of hate speech when I teach what God's Word says about marriage, the sanctity of life, transgenderism, etc. Not allowing sleepovers for our kids, canceling cable - not saying God has put that conviction on everyone and not judging, but for us, we knew it was something God had called us to do and we took quite a bit of teasing and flak from...
Welcome to another session of "The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast". In today's episode, we're focusing on “Do not rebel against the LORD and don't be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the LORD is with us! Don't be afraid of them! NUMBERS 14:9,” a profound verse that reveals the power of faith and the assurance of God's promises, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.Point 1: The Report of the SpiesIn the biblical account of Numbers, we read the story of the twelve spies sent by Moses into the Promised Land. Their mission was not to decide whether conquest was possible but to gather intelligence for when they would arrive. The report that came back was a study in contrasts. Ten of the spies painted a terrifying picture, portraying the inhabitants as giants and insisting that overcoming them was impossible. Joshua and Caleb, however, held a different viewpoint. They firmly believed in the promise of God, even when their faith seemed foolhardy to others.Point 2: Faith Versus "Realistic" WisdomIn our journeys, we often come across similar crossroads where faith and practical wisdom appear to diverge. Joshua and Caleb chose to cling onto the divine promise, which to many seemed unrealistic. They held steadfast to the fact that the Promised Land was exactly that – promised. It was a guarantee from the infallible God. Their faith was anchored in the belief that God's words were truth, regardless of how circumstances might distort this reality.Point 3: God's Promises in the Midst of ChallengesWhen God grants you His promises through the scriptures and enlightens your understanding of their relevance in your situation, hold onto them with unwavering faith. Circumstances may cause you to doubt the feasibility of His promises. You might even wrestle with your understanding, wondering if perhaps you misinterpreted His words. The world is full of doctrines trying to rationalize why God's promises might not mean what they seem. But when His words resonate with your circumstances, they are as solid as a rock. In the face of trials and tribulations, His promises should be your stronghold. Refuse to let any challenge or obstacle persuade you to loosen your grip on His guarantees.Point 4: Clinging to His PromisesEmbracing God's promises requires a firm faith, unyielding even when circumstances are not in your favor. When His words become personal, resonating with your life's narrative, they can be trusted unequivocally. Like Joshua and Caleb, let us learn to cling onto His promises, irrespective of the giants that tower around us. Whatever God has spoken to you, don't let the obstacles around you persuade you otherwise. His word remains steadfast and unchanging. In conclusion, as we navigate through the journey of life, let's always remember to anchor our faith in the promises of God. Even when circumstances seem daunting, let's hold fast to His assurances, knowing that He is faithful to fulfill His word.Closing Prayer: "Lord, it is so difficult to believe Your promises when circumstances and the “wisdom” of others dictate against them. But Your words are bigger to me than the giants around me are. I choose always to believe what You have said. Strengthen my faith, Lord, and help me always to remember the assurance of Your promises."Thank you for joining us on "The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast". As we face life's challenges, let us remember to trust in God's promises, holding onto His words with unwavering faith, and knowing that His promises are sure.Thank you for reading The Power Of God's Whisper. We may not worship gods of wood or stone, but we know that sometimes we still put other "gods" above you... activities that we spend our time on, things that we spend our money on, even thoughts that we give higher value to than your word. And for that, we repent. Like Joshua, today we choose to serve you, us and our households. Thank you for your love and mercy Father. Amen. ---- We are reading the entire Bible this year in the order the events actually occured chronologically. You can download a copy of the reading plan from blueletterbible.com. Exodus 17:8-9 NIV 8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.” 1. Learn to See Opposition as Opportunity Exodus 17:13 NIV 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword. Exodus 17:14 NIV 14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.” 2. Learn to Treasure the Training Exodus 24:13 NIV Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God. Hebrews 12:5b-7 NIV 5 “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. 6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. 3. Learn the Differences in Denial and Discernment Denial: The action of declaring something to be untrue Discernment: the ability to judge well. Exodus 32:2-6 NIV 2 Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” 3 So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. 4 He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.” 5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of the calf and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival to the Lord.” 6 So the next day the people rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings. Afterward they sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry. Exodus 32:15-19 NIV 15 Moses turned and went down the mountain with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands. They were inscribed on both sides, front and back. 16 The tablets were the work of God; the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets. 17 When Joshua heard the noise of the people shouting, he said to Moses, “There is the sound of war in the camp.” 18 Moses replied: “It is not the sound of victory, it is not the sound of defeat; it is the sound of singing that I hear.” 19 When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain. 4. Learn to Cultivate Your Craving Exodus 33:11 NIV 11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent. Questions: 1. Have you ever experienced a season in your life where you felt a disconnect from God? How would you describe it? Can you identify what makes you feel connected to the Lord? 2. How have you navigated opposition in your life? What have been some of those outcomes? 3. Like Joshua, training is often required to reach goals. How has the process of preparation looked for you and how has it changed you?

An inconvenient call comes to an elderly man, Joshua, who is commissioned to remind the Israelites that though Moses is dead, God's promise is alive. God is in Joshua's corner, granting him courage under fire. Like Joshua, may we be strong and courageous in the Lord, resolving to dwell in God's word and meditate on it. In the battle between faith and fear, fight with the sword of the word.
Even during times of calm and security, the honest truth is, there are very few examples of really strong and steady leaders. It's a given then that when times are scary, brave leaders that reassure us are really needed…but really rare! The Bible speaks of one such person. Joshua 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua was an especially passionate and courageous leader. A born leader. God used him during a time the Israelites were ‘going all wobbly,' as a political leader once said. The Israelites had seen it all. A plague in Egypt. An army bearing down on them. Mass hunger. Homelessness for years. But Joshua played it all with a chip on his shoulder. An edge of anger really that caused him to never be afraid. In his community, he was boss—and everyone knew it. God made him that way. In your own community—your family at home, your church family, a group of scared coworkers—be a Joshua. Be strong and courageous. Set your feet so that your legs don't go wobbly, and then tell your people that God has this. He is with you, wherever this situation goes. Let's pray. Lord, Joshua is our human example of courage. Help us keep others safe and calm in the midst of crisis. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Can you think of some choices you've made—maybe even recently—that you would like to do-over? Choices have consequences, that's for sure, so I want to remind you of some biblical principles about choices. This one from Joshua is no doubt the most important choice we make: “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15). Joshua puts it to the people of Israel that they have a choice as to who they will serve, the Lord God or some false pagan god. That was a default choice. If they don't choose to serve the Lord God, they will by default serve a false god. One or the other. We have default choices, too. Failing to make one choice means you are choosing another choice by default. If you have made a choice to be a Christ-follower, to serve the Lord, then that means you are choosing not to serve other gods, gods of your own making, gods of our culture. Jesus made it clear that we cannot serve God and money—or other things that can crawl up on the throne of our heart. Joshua began by saying “if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you” because sometimes it may seem “undesirable”—not easy. For example, serving the Lord on your job could require taking a stand that isn't politically correct, which could have unpleasant consequences for you and your career. So, you have to decide in advance that serving the Lord is desirable—is your choice. Joshua took that stand—"we will serve the Lord,” he said. In our culture today, I believe we as Christ-followers will need to decide in advance—make a determination and commitment in our minds and hearts—that we choose to serve the Lord. We choose to stand true to God's Word. That is the most important choice you and I will ever make. Like Joshua, we should make that a firm decision in our minds, and a choice we reinforce and re-commit regularly. Can you say, “I choose to serve the Lord—no matter what”?

In this episode Pastor Harris will be focusing on the third impediment, the one he identifies as stinking thinking. In America today, this stinking thinking is a plague. To illustrate how a stinking thinking can be overcome, he will appeal to one of the great men of the Old Testament, a man whose name was Joshua ben Nun, the central figure in the Old Testament book focusing upon him. According to the books of Exodus, Numbers, and Joshua, he was the assistant to the great man Moses and succeeded Moses as the leader of Israel after Moses died.Joshua's Hebrew name at birth was HOSHE'A, and he was from the tribe of Ephraim. It was Moses who named him Joshua according to Numbers 13:16. His name was shortened to YESHUA in Nehemiah 8:17. According to the Scriptures, he was born in Egypt prior to the Exodus.Joshua was destined to become one of the twelve spies sent out by Moses to explore the land of Canaan. He was also charged by Moses to select and command a military group for Israel's first battle following the Exodus. He ascended Mount Sinai with Moses when Moses received the Ten Commandments. And after the death of Moses, he replaced the great man and led the Israelites in the conquest of Canaan. He personally allotted the land to the various tribes. This is a man who would never surrender to stinking thinking, and Pastor Harris will use this man as his example for today's Podcast message.

In this Episode Prophet Marty Layton shares about the importance of prayer, the sovereignty of the Lord and how God has this all planned out. If God is sovereign then why do we still have to pray? Does it really matter if we pray when God is in control? Like Joshua and the people of God entering Canaan Land, if we are going to possess our “Promises” then we must pray and use the weapons of our warfare as described in scripture. Join us as we seize our God given opportunity as we exercise our God given right to pray, decree His promises and see “His Kingdom Come & His Will Be Done On Earth As It Is In Heaven!”
God helps us accomplish EVERYTHING He asks us to do. It is our choice whether we will obey Him or not. "Choose you this day whom ye will serve, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
