The next mixtape sees new output 33, aka Billy Bultheel and Alexander Iezzi, putting together a mix of music and musicians that surround them and create their daily musical landscape. Through their collaborative project 33, Billy Bultheel and Alexander Iezzi further consolidate a partnership which has taken many forms within a visual, artistic spectrum. Their practice envelops performance art, music and installation whilst pinpointing, developing and elaborating the most meaningful and poignant marriages of the disciplines. Their differing backgrounds have informed how their long collaboration works – Bultheel with his conservatory training and Iezzi coming from DIY punk and experimental music scenes. Their debut album 33-69 (C.A.N.V.A.S., 2022), aments and commemorates the interruption of the simplicities, beauties and charm of mortal life in full Baroque splendour, whilst also partaking in the final opportunities for carnal pleasure and orgiastic excesses in the earthly realm. 33-69 was conceived during the first Covid-19 lockdowns and documents the duo's experiences of pandemic life in Berlin. Recreating that dopamine shot and collaborating towards a sense of community that the pandemic had suddenly folded away. The record is a short but powerful rush of emotional states and bodily desires, translated into cerebral and carnal electronic compositions of EDM, noise and techno Bultheel and Iezzi carry with them a wealth of composition and performance experience and skill, boasting impressive trajectories which cross each other frequently. This complex and intricate working relationship culminates in the creation of 33-69 as a defiant debut — a dense and finely crafted work that finds unlikely pathways to navigate Baroque, Lieder and exuberant club through humour, dread and exaltation. As we've advanced, the mix they have prepared for us is a compilation of music and musicians that surround them and create their daily musical landscape. Part peers, friends and acquaintances, part inspiration, history and admiration. The mix includes music by Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, Bohren club of Gore, Heith, Lugh, Johannes Ciconia, PC Worship, Rihanna, CEM, Bach and more.

I had a great discussion with Heith Martin, co-owner and co-founder of one of my favourite pubs in the entire city, FSH! You can listen to Episode 13 of the I Love Kelowna Podcast here. If you enjoyed this episode, an iTunes review would be SO appreciated! https://tinyurl.com/y8jax3xb SHOW NOTES Heith was born and raised in Regina. Started in the restaurant business as a dishwasher and delivery driver at Boston Pizza at the age of 16. Got into the nightclub business, first as a busser, because he was not as large as the bouncers when he was still a teenager. Went to university in the States, then came back to Regina and got a job at Checkers Nightclub as a doorman for 4/5 years. Learned all about the food and beverage business including fundraising, event promotion and so on. So 4-5 of his colleagues and he decided to open their own nightclub in 2001. In the meantime he was a volunteer football and basketball coach, always giving back to the community. In year two they bought a building and opened a second nightclub, this time in Moose Jaw. The biggest mistake was buying everything retail and for cash. Opening a pizza joint in Rutland. Getting into the construction business in Kelowna, which was something he actually first learned as a pre-teen in Regina, building his own treehouse and skateboarding half-pipe. Their renovations work on the bar was so impressive that people started to ask him to build decks, garages, and small houses. Construction crew peaks at 41 workers. We discuss some of his most impressive projects. Returns to Regina in 2011 to help some friends build a great pub. Again, people were so impressed with his work that he landed one construction contract after another, quite often for pubs and restaurants. Out of frustration for the cookie-cutter mold that franchises force you to stick to, he started a search for a Kelowna location that he could craft into his own vision. That’s how the fantastic FSH location was discovered and built out. Created an “old building” feel with all new construction. The Cask & Flankin Pub at Fenway Park in Boston was inspiration for the name Flask Social House. Hear about Heath’s favourite and least-favourite parts of the food and beverage industry. The keys to success: hire right, do lots of research, make alliances, and work very hard in a hands-on way, and always be ready to give back to the community A big shoutout to Sheldon Gardiner from Do Some Good! Part 1: As a grad student, Liz Neeley falls in love with the order of science, but when she heads into the field, she’s forced to confront messy reality. Part 2: Criminologist Heith Copes gets close to his subjects when he studies meth users in rural Alabama. Liz Neeley is the executive director of The Story Collider. She is a lapsed marine biologist who will always name her printers after fish. For the past decade, she has been helping researchers around the world understand the science of science communication and find the courage to tell more stories about their work. She is a member of the advisory boards of Ensia Magazine and the CommLab at MIT. Heith Copes, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of Justice Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has served as the President of the Southern Criminal Justice Association and has been a visiting professor at the University of Oslo, University of South Wales, Aalborg University, and the Centre for Alcohol and Drug Research at Aarhus University. He received his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Tennessee in 2001. He is currently working with Jared Ragland on a photo-ethnography in rural Alabama. The project entails interviews, observations, and visual methods to document the lives of people who use methamphetamine in Marshall County, Alabama. Heith Copes's story was produced as part of a partnership with Springer Storytellers.
