In this episode of the Parsha Review Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe begins the fourth cycle of weekly Torah insights with Parshas Bereshis, focusing on creation's profundity and life's lessons from Genesis 1:25–27. He emphasizes Hashem's deliberate design, urging listeners to derive ethics from nature if Torah were absent, while highlighting Torah's elevation beyond instinct.Creation's Depth: Bereshis holds infinite secrets; a rabbi spent 25 years on one book about the six days, yet Rabbi Simcha Wasserman deemed it insufficient. No full week exists to study it due to holidays, protecting its mysteries (0:12–4:48).Animal Essences and Lessons: Animals are created "according to their kind" (limino), each with unchangeable traits (Talmud Eruvin 100b). Examples: cat (modesty), dog (forgiveness), camel (self-sufficiency for true kindness), ant (diligence per Proverbs 6:6). Rambam story proves nature's immutability—trained cats chase mice. Without Torah, animals teach conduct; with Torah, it refines (e.g., "do not murder" prohibits embarrassment) (6:26–14:40).Human Creation and Genders: Hashem created male/female binary ("zachar u'nekeva"), rejecting modern fluidity (5:47–6:26).Divine Messages Everywhere: King David learned from all creatures except the spider, which later saved him. Every event is Hashem's message—learn from situations (e.g., supermarket observations). National Geographic shows animal defenses/predators in balance; Pesach song illustrates chain, but fear only Hashem (15:14–20:27).Call to Action: Read the Chumash (Stone Edition by Artscroll recommended)—it transforms life. Journey through Torah starts now, learning from all creation (20:27–21:18)._____________This episode (Ep 8.1) of the Parsha Review Podcast by Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe on Parshas Bereishis is dedicated in honor of Lenny & Teresa FriedmanDownload & Print the Parsha Review Notes:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ncaRyoH5iJmGGoMZs9y82Hz2ofViVouv?usp=sharingRecorded at TORCH Meyerland in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on October 17, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on October 17, 2025_____________Subscribe: Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/parsha-review-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1651930083)Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/22lv1kXJob5ZNLaAl6CHTQ) to stay inspired! With animal shelters across Southern Nevada facing overcrowding, poor conditions, and some even resuming euthanizations, advocates say that "adopt, don't shop" is more important than ever. So some municipalities in Southern Nevada, including Clark County, have enacted bans forbidding the retail sale of certain pets — and now the legislature is considering a bill to make that ban statewide. Co-host Sarah Lohman sits down with Nevada Current investigative reporter Dana Gentry, who recently wrote about the new effort. Need help with your pet? The Animal Foundation lists resources here. "The fatality rate for kittens is appalling, and the goal is to reduce their suffering while ensuring healthier, happier lives for the cats that remain.” This episode is sponsored-in-part by Maddie's Fund. Join us this week for an enlightening conversation as Stacy LeBaron sits down with Gary Evans, the visionary President of the Alliance for Contraception in Cats and Dogs (ACC&D). Together, they explore groundbreaking advancements in non-surgical sterilization and their potential to transform how we manage cat and dog populations. Gary unpacks the science, challenges, and promising developments behind single-injection contraceptives and the innovative marking solutions being developed at Georgia Tech, like microneedle tattoos. Gather valuable insights into how these solutions could drastically increase sterilization rates, reduce veterinary resource demands, and pave the way for a future with fewer homeless animals. Gary also digs into the critical role of targeted Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs and the economic strategies that amplify their impact. With a realistic but hopeful view, he outlines the timeline for non-surgical sterilants to become widely accessible and the steps needed to bridge the gap between research and real-world application. Whether you are an animal advocate, veterinary professional, or a community cat caretaker, we know this episode will leave you with hope in the real progress we are making to create a world where every cat and dog can live a healthier, safer life. Press play now for: Gary's transition from tech to non-profit and his passion for community cats. The promise and challenges of non-surgical sterilization methods. Why targeted TNR programs are the key to impactful population control. Innovative solutions like magistral acetate and microneedle tattooing for marking sterilized animals. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.politix.fmThis week, Matt and Brian take stock of the many ways Republicans have flailed since Donald Trump lost last week's debate against Kamala Harris:* If they're trying to change the topic, or convince people Trump won, why are so many MAGA influencers still trying to “prove” ABC rigged the debate for Harris?* Is the discourse they've provoked by terrorizing Haitians in Springfield, OH, actually better for Trump than some stories about how he lost?* Where does Trump's, um, weird relationship with the bigoted conspiracy-theorist Laura Loomer fit into all this? Then, behind the paywall, Matt and Brian debate the nature of racist political demagoguery when the progenitor is as erratic and undisciplined as Donald Trump. Are Democrats too traumatized by the Trumpian immigration politics to recognize when Trump veers into politically toxic territory? Is it a political emergency when Trump manages to drag discourse back to immigration? Even when he does so by saying outrageous and unpopular things? Should Democrats be more chill, pressing their advantages on whatever issue happens to be in the news—or should they always anxiously try to steer the conversation back to safer terrain? All that, plus the full Politix archive are available to paid subscribers—just upgrade your subscription and pipe full episodes directly to your favorite podcast app via your own private feed. Welcome to #Millennial, the home of pretend adulting and real DEBATE talk! Starting this week we're releasing video episodes on YouTube! Subscribe and watch us each week! We're coming to you right after Tuesday night's Presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump and boy, was that a doozy. It began with Kamala establishing dominance by forcing a handshake, and it all went downhill from there. We kept a running list of the best and worst moments of the debate, but one of our favorite takeaways of the night was ABC's moderators fact checking Trump's lies on the spot. FINALLY! In Trump dystopian fantasy world, undocumented migrants are taking over our cities and... eating peoples' pets? Kamala really gets under the orange guy's skin by bringing his crowd sizes and engagement into question, and that's where he really starts to flip. Trump used immigration as his pivot topic for... pretty much everything. FOX News called, they want their talking points back! "Donald Trump was fired by 81 million people and he's having a hard time processing that." How are we feeling about how things stand with the Presidential race post-debate? Kamala killed it, but Trump is playing a different game than traditional politics. Will this debate move the needle further out of his favor? The next debate will be between Tim Walz and JD Vance on Tuesday 10/1, so we'll see you for more debate coverage soon! This week's recommendations: get your updated flu and covid shots if eligible (Laura), Trader Joe's Pumpkin Spice cold brew concentrate (Pam), and Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, the card game (Andrew). And in this week's installment of After Dark: Let's talk strategies to be safe and sane for the rest of the election season. How will we be voting - in person, or absentee? Let's recap where we were when the election was called for Biden in 2020, and make predictions about how long it will take to get results this time. Justin and Christian talk about eating strange vegetables in public, what feral and domestic animals would say to humans, and yet again they discuss just how out of touch they are with what's cool these days. Then they answer a letter about how to simplify your life as a young adult, and they tackle a Would You Rather. Finally, they offer advice to a listener going through a tough break up.
