Susan and Sharon continue their conversation with legendary 80s TV Lady -- and The Facts of Life writer/producer -- Margie Peters! In Part 2, the conversation turns to the challenges of making comedy out of date rape and toxic masculinity; “comedy sparring” in the Different World writer's room with Debbie Allen, Thad Mumford and Susan Fales-Hill; the creative opportunities for “women of a certain age”; and the lasting impact of the cruel moniker “The FATS of Life”. Margie Peters has written and produced over 140 hours of television, including The Love Boat, Valerie, One Day at a Time and A Different World. But her longest and best-known gig was the six years she spent on The Facts of Life.THE CONVERSATION “YOU'VE GOT SPUNK!” -- How watching The Mary Tyler Moore Show gave Margie the chutzpah to try her hand at TV writing!Margie shows off her 1989 IMAGE Award from Planned Parenthood for the “No Means No” episode of A Different World (S2; EP20): “It's in the living room next to my television.”The time Debbie Allen explained to Margie that Duane calling a girl “Big Butt Brenda” is a compliment -- not an insult! The joys of working with Valerie Harper on Valerie. On Episode 152 of the RETROZEST podcast, Curtis concludes the celebration of the 45th Anniversary of the premiere of STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE! This film is a 1979 American science fiction drama directed by Robert Wise. It is based on and stars the cast of the 1966–1969 television series Star Trek created by Gene Roddenberry, who serves as producer. In the film, set in the 2270s, a mysterious and powerful alien cloud known as V'Ger approaches Earth, destroying everything in its path. Admiral James T. Kirk (William Shatner) assumes command of the recently refitted Starship Enterprise to lead it on a mission to determine V'Ger's origins and save the planet. Assisting Curtis in this endeavor in an exclusive interview is CRAIG HUXLEY, former child actor and inventor of the "Blaster Beam" (the musical instrument which makes the V'GER Sting sounds on the Star Trek: The Motion Picture soundtrack)! He has used this instrument in other films including Star Trek II and Star Trek III, as well as more modern films like 10 Cloverfield Lane. What's even more interesting is that Craig was also a child actor and he actually appears in the 1967 Star Trek TOS episode "Operation Annihilate!", wherein he portrayed Captain Kirk's nephew, Peter Kirk. The following year, he had a different role in the TOS episode "And the Children Shall Lead". Additionally, he appeared in television shows such as Bewitched, The Flying Nun, Kung Fu and The Brady Bunch. Craig is joined in this interview by his lovely and talented daughter FIONA HUXLEY, who is a wonderful singer, songwriter, actress, and speaker in her own right! She masterfully assists Craig in talking about his career in and out of Star Trek, and how so much of what he has done has weaved itself into so many parts of the pop culture of the 1960s all the way up to the present! Be sure and follow Craig on Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram and YouTube! You may also follow Fiona on Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram and YouTube! EPISODE 66 - “WHEN CLASSIC FILM'S SUPPORTING ACTORS STEAL THE SHOW” - 12/16/2024 There is nothing quite like watching a film when suddenly a supporting character comes in and walks away with the film. (Think THELMA RITTER, S.Z. SAKALL, or GALE SONDERGAARD in almost every one of their films!) This week we are focusing on some of our favorite supporting charters who come in and snatch that scene right about from under the big stars. From JOANNA BARNES' Gloria Upson declaring, “It was just ghastly!” in “Auntie Mame” to the impassioned monologue about love that BEAH RICHARDS delivers to SPENCER TRACY in “Guess Who's Coming To Dinner,” we take a fun look at these powerful performances that we're still talking about today. "The lady in blue was seen bilocating more than 500 times from her cloistered convent in Spain, to the indigenous people of what is now Southwest America. More than 60,000 were baptized here." ---------- Hi there! Trapper Jack here. How did this one slip by the historians? As we gathered around the Thanksgiving table this year, somebody brought up the original Thanksgiving story of Pilgrims and such. The 102 souls who ventured from Europe for religious freedom. It gave me an opportunity to share the much bigger story which occurred in the same timeframe. Few seem to know about the 60,000 indigenous people, otherwise known as Indians, who were baptized into Christianity, right here in what we now call America. Since I have not talked about this on the podcast for more than five years, let's have a go of it again. It opens the door to the saintly types who walk among us, in particular, the venerable Maria de Ágreda (Mary of Jesus) who bilocated to what is now the southwest of the United States from her convent in Spain. This sister, in her blue habit, was seen flying in and out of what we now call Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. Don't believe it? Just give a listen and watch the video link to a priest and the documentation. Enlarge Your Music !

Head In Flames Your Maze At The End Of The Road High Waisted Jeans Nothing Like This Ugly Old Fashioned Virtue Silence Kills Keep On Stumbling Angry Silence We Were Soldiers Merci Charles.

Send us a textToday's podcast features James Winter, the visionary co-founder and director of Brand X, which has been creating affordable spaces for artists since 2005. With a background in dramatic and performing arts, James recognized a need for reliable, affordable rehearsal and creative spaces, leading him to establish Brand X over 20 years ago. We spoke with James about the changing face of Sydney and the impact of the cost-of-living crisis on artists. He shared why he founded Brand X, how it operates, and his concerns about the lack of diverse arts programming in the city. James highlighted how this gap could lead to fewer opportunities for unique, high-quality art to be created and showcased in Sydney, ultimately affecting the city's cultural landscape. Brand X now manages the City of Sydney Creative Studios, offering a wide range of subsidised spaces for musicians, dancers, actors, and artists, available for both short-term and long-term hire in the heart of Sydney. Each year, Brand X also organizes Petite Suite, a performance residency set in a hotel. Fiona and I attended this year, and it was an incredible experience!Currently running is The Flying Nun, another Brand X initiative, which we highly recommend. For just $25, you can see these unique performances. The Flying Nun provides performing arts residencies where each project receives $2,600, a week in the venue, and a two-night performance run, keeping the majority of box office revenue. Grab your tickets here! Brand x - We re-purpose empty properties so performing, recording and visual artists can practice their craft.'We do this by working with Property Developers, Landlords and Local Governments to transform empty spaces into cultural places that allow artists to contribute, flourish and be sustainable in the community. We are driven by the belief that artists, when given appropriate space, inspire a renewed sense of belonging, harmony and pride of place for the entire community.Brand X provides subsidised workspace and creative development programs alongside facilities for hire where artists can traverse the entire creative process from development to presentation. We maintain a charter that is relevant and responsive to the Independent Arts sector dealing specifically with arts-practice sustainability, skills development and capacity building. Our objective is to afford artists the opportunity to take risks, innovate and to create work. This is achieved by offering artists affordable rates for hire, residencies and opportunities for income-generation through our activation projects. By providing Independent Artists with support while reinvigorating local communities we stimulate a vibrant cultural life for Sydney.'

They have a distinct modus operandi of gusto, ego, and innuendo.  Sophie Strykowski (she/they) is a performance maker and actor from Gadigal, currently living on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people. Their devised work reflects their positionality as a queer person, with the intention to dismantle and reimagine perceived truths with earnestness and delight. Today on part two of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to Peter Ackerman, son of actress Elinor Donohue and TV executive Harry Ackerman. On this episode, we focus on Peter's mother Elinor Donohue and discuss everything from the Ray Court's memorabilia shows as well as the Star Trek memorabilia shows she appeared at and the role Peter played at those events. Of course we do talk about Peter's dad Harry Ackerman, a television executive who developed shows like I Love Lucy, Gidget, Bewitched, Hazel, Gunsmoke and a ton of others. Along the way we talk about all things Ackerman, everything from Aerosmith to “Days of Our Lives”, the mandate from Robert Young that meant no kids on set, the coolness of Peter Frampton, a t-shirt for John Candy, the pattern of a Garry Marshall script and much more. Oh and one more thing, we left a little Easter Egg till the very end so make sure you listen to the entire episode. It's all next on the Rarified Heir Podcast.

More than 27 hours of vintage sci-fi for only $9.99 now on Spotify. He was told he had no talent by a creative-writing professor at Ohio State University and then he went on to become one of the most prolific science fiction writers of all time having written more than 1700 short stories and articles, at least 100 books and dozens of screenplays and television scripts.Born in Cleveland Ohio in 1934 Harlan Ellison wrote what is regarded by many as the best episode of Star Trek, "The City on the Edge of Forever" and he hated it, because it was rewritten. It won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation and the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Episodic Drama on Television. At the Hugos he dedicated the award to “the memory of the script they butchered, and in respect to those parts of it that had the vitality to shine through the evisceration.”Ellison sold scripts to a lot of TV shows in the 60s, The Flying Nun, Burke's Law, Route 66,The Outer Limits,The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Cimarron Strip, and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.A word used frequently to describe Ellison was cantankerous. He was hired as a writer for Walt Disney Studios, but was fired on his first day after Roy O. Disney overheard him in the studio commissary joking about making a pornographic animated film featuring Disney characters.Ellison settled out of court over allegations that James Cameron had plagiarized elements of his work in writing the screenplay for The Terminator; and he once sent a dead gopher to a publisher who violated a clause in his contract. And then there was the time in the 60s he was nose to nose in an argument with Frank Sinatra which nearly led to physical blows. The altercation, which started when the always impeccably dressed Sinatra didn't like the boots Ellison was wearing, was short, lasting only about 3 minutes before Ellison walked away. In 2013 Ellison admitted he kept the boots preserved in a plastic bag in his closet.Harlan Ellison was cantankerous; he was talented, and he wrote more than science fiction. He won 8 Hugo Awards, four Nebula Awards, two Edgar Awards from the Mystery Writers of America and 5 Bram Stoker Awards from the Horror Writers Association.A writer for more than 60 years Harlan Ellison died at his home in Los Angeles in 2018 at the age of 84.From the February 1956 edition of Infinity Science Fiction, Glow Worm by Harlan Ellison… Next week on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast… From Chaos a space-consuming creature reachedslimy tentacles toward trembling planets. Andno man of the old fighting breed remained oneffete Earth to battle the invulnerable monster. The Monster that Threatened the Universe by Russ Winterbotham. That's next week onThe Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, with at least one lost vintage sci-fi short story in every episode.

Over the years, there have been more comic book series based on TV shows than you'd think. Back in the 60s, if your newsstand was sold out of Batman comics, you could still read My Favorite Martian or Petticoat Junction comics, you lucky kid. This week we're diving into the weird world of television-based comics, using the new book American TV Comic Books as our guide. And yes, we made a dumb game out of it. Kornflake is guessing which TV shows were also comic books (The Flying Nun? Welcome Back, Kotter? Laverne and Shirley?), and her competition is the random flip of a shiny Rhode Island state quarter. Listen as these grizzled warriors face off on a battlefield of sitcom reruns and obscure old funnybooks. Only one shall survive. And our money is on the money.
