These are games that are based on something from pop culture (a movie, TV show, or even books). We discuss what makes a good IP game, and talk about our favorites as well as some that you might want to avoid. In this episode we talked about quite a few games: Hit Z Road, Chrono Corsairs, Spector Ops, Grimm Masquerade, Order of the Gilded Compass, Las Vegas, King's Dilemma, Battlestar Galactica, Jaws, Monopoly Gamer, Star Wars Rebellion, The Morty Zone, Villainous, Legendary games, Oregon Trail the Card game, Game of Thrones the Board Game, and Homeland. In the words of DiscoverLosAngeles.com, "[w]hen one thinks of Santa Monica, the attraction of the Pier inevitably comes to mind. The Pier offers Pacific Park, a full service amusement park, combined with plenty of restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops, as well as an entertaining arcade with more than 200 games. The Pier is a must-visit Santa Monica attraction that really sets Santa Monica apart as an ideal destination for families and visitors of any age." Why someone would set a board game in this sun-bleached mare's nest, I can't say. But somehow this tableau-builder works. And maybe its low-stakes spread is exactly what we need during this difficult time. We also rip through games that we love but simply suck at. Based off of the length of our lists, winning isn't everything, but it is often almost everything.04:02 Terra Mystica and Gaia Project07:35 Just One and Codenames08:55 Everdell and Tapestry11:45 FEATURE REVIEW Santa Monica23:20 FEATURE TOPIC Great games we suck at24:18 Food Chain Magnate26:18 Dixit27:56 Twilight Struggle29:34 Starcraft (the video game)30:32 Just One31:22 Barrage33:17 Tzolkin36:06 Heaven & Ale39:48 Palaces of Carrara40:33 Hit Z Road

We are but slaves to your whims here at SVWAG, and when our massed masters demand that we dance for their amusement, we must perforce oblige. We resisted for a time, but clearly that was folly. The people have spoken, and their demands will be met: we will descend to the realm of clickbait and listicles and present to your our top 10 games. Walker remains dubious of the enterprise, but Mark is confident that slavish obedience is the path to true happiness.Games Played Last Week:-Battle for Rokugan 1m11s (Tom Jolly & Molly Glover, FFG, 2017)-Warhammer 40K: Kill Team 5m04s (Uncredited, Games Workshop, 2018)-Hit Z Road 8m09s (Martin Wallace, Asmodee, 2016)-Outlive 10m00s (Gregory Iliver, La Boite de Jeu, 2017)-Lost Cities: Rivals 12m13s (Reiner Knizia, KOSMOS, 2018)-Shogun 14m11s (Dirk Henn, Queen Games, 2006)-Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition 17m35s (Nikki Valens, FFG, 2016)-Scythe: The Rise of Fenris 23m38s (Ryan Lopez DiVinaspre & Jamey Stegamaier, Stonemaier Games, 2018) News (and why it doesn't matter)-More Neue Heimat = The Estates 25m05s -More Dune = more silly Spice memes 27m59s-More Meeple Circus = more joy 29m31s-More Spirit Island = more dead colonizers 29m49s-More Shadespire = Nightvault 30m48sFeature Game: Root 32m31s (Cole Wehrle, Leder Games, 2018)Topic: Mark's Top 10 Games of All Time 56m49s#10: Tribune Expansion#9:Ra#8:Infinity#7:Loopin' Louie#6:Race for the Galaxy: The Brink of War#5:Gloomhaven#4:Imperial 2030#3:Antike II#2:Blue Moon Legends#1:Tigris & Euphrates

Social Games: Hidden Identities! With Adrian and Zach fresh from another convention, our hosts start off the episodes with reactions from Geekway to the West and all their recently played games. Jeff got another chance to play Hit Z Road, Zach found an amazing game in Flatline, and Adrian shipped some rice in Indonesia. Afterwards, Jeff finally gets some more blood bowl goodness. In a short news and Kickstarter section, the Spiel des Jahres 2017 nominations are discussed, an update on the Games upgrades 3.0 KS, and Heroes of Land, Air, and Sea is relaunched. Moving onto the review of the week, our hosts talk about a trio of Social games with Hidden Identities and deduction. These games include Ultimate Werewolf, The Resistance, and Secret Hitler. Are these games able to hide their wonderful goodness away from prying eyes, allowing them to be ripe for consumption? Or do the flaws of social gaming cause them to argue amongst themselves while you just find something better to do? Find out inside! A BGG question is answered, and a special live play of Win, Lose, or Banana is attempted. A Special announcement closes out the show.   00:00:28 Banter! Sabeu què és un fals documental? Us sona La guerra dels mons d'Orson Welles?
