This episode of the Six Figure Author Experiment podcast focuses on post-launch strategies and marketing techniques for indie authors, featuring a detailed discussion with guest Mike from Written Word Media. The conversation explores the effectiveness of various advertising strategies, including the use of Facebook, Instagram, and Amazon ads, with an emphasis on the importance of testing different ad creatives and understanding the nuances of different platforms.Key Discussion Points:* Post-Launch Reflection:* Russell reflects on his recent book launch, noting that despite a detailed pre-launch plan, he executed minimal promotional activities aside from running Facebook and Amazon ads and sending a few emails. The discussion highlights the importance of post-launch analysis to understand what worked and what didn't.* Advertising Strategies:* Mike explains the benefits of using Written Word Media's Reader Reach ads, which run on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Amazon, tailored specifically for indie authors. He emphasizes the importance of focusing on data-driven decisions, such as analyzing which ads perform best to optimize future campaigns.* Data and Feedback:* Russell and Mike discuss the importance of receiving detailed feedback on ad performance, including metrics like clicks and impressions, to improve future ad campaigns. Russell expresses a desire for more granular data to understand which specific ad creatives and keywords are most effective.* Pricing Strategy:* The conversation delves into pricing strategies for book series, with recommendations to heavily discount or make the first book in a series free to attract readers and drive sales for subsequent books at full price. The hosts debate the effectiveness of discounting later books in a series.* Long-Term Marketing Approach:* The episode emphasizes the need for a long-term perspective on book marketing, treating the launch as a continuous process rather than a one-time event. This includes ongoing promotion through influencer outreach, TikTok ads, and other channels, to keep momentum going even months after the initial launch.* Direct Sales and Conversion Ads:* A significant portion of the discussion is dedicated to the advantages of running direct sales ads and using conversion events to optimize ad performance. Mike introduces the idea of using meta's conversion pixel for better targeting and efficiency in ad campaigns, especially for direct sales through an author's website.* Lead Generation:* The hosts also touch on the effectiveness of lead generation ads for building an email list, discussing benchmarks for cost per lead and the importance of list quality over quantity.Final Thoughts:The episode provides a comprehensive look at the complexities of book marketing, emphasizing the importance of continuous testing, data analysis, and a long-term approach to building and sustaining book sales. The key takeaway is that effective marketing for indie authors requires a combination of strategic ad spending, price promotions, and ongoing engagement with readers. This is a public episode. Following about four hours of discussion and public comment May 14, the Henrico Board of Supervisors approved Richmond developer Hourigan's rezoning plans for a 622-acre advanced manufacturing and data center complex to be known as White Oak Technology Park II in Sandston, despite largely negative public feedback during the meeting and before the Henrico Planning Commission in April. This complex will be located at the southeast corner of the I-64/I-295 interchange, with construction likely to start within two or three years and buildout possible within a decade. Resident concerns focused primarily on three categories: environmental impacts, largely around water and...Article LinkSupport the Show.

Dear Editor: When I first wrote county leaders in late January regarding the possible rezoning of 622 acres for presumably a massive data center complex, it was the first time in 40 years as a resident of Henrico that I have questioned Henrico's leadership. I never had an issue with Facebook/Meta being in the area and didn't know about QTS until recently. When I learned these two hyperscale data centers were expanding and the county was considering the Hourigan proposal, alarm bells started to go off, mainly because of the massive acreage (yes size matters) and also because of the...Article LinkSupport the Show.

The Henrico Planning Commission last week endorsed plans for a proposed 622-acre data center complex in Sandston, despite uniformly negative feedback during a public hearing from nearly 20 speakers about the project's potential environmental impact and the possible loss of a portion of a Civil War battlefield on the site. Following a two-and-a-half-hour hearing April 11, the commission voted 4-1 to recommend that the Henrico Board of Supervisors approve Richmond developer Hourigan's plans to rezone the site (located at the southeast corner of the I-64/I-295 interchange in Sandston, adjacent to the White Oak Technology Park) from an agricultural to a...Article LinkSupport the show
A developer's plans to rezone 622 acres in Eastern Henrico for a complex that ultimately could house more than a dozen data centers will be considered by the Henrico Planning Commission at its April 11 meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. Richmond developer Hourigan wants to rezone the site, located generally at the southeast corner of the I-64/I-295 interchange in Sandston, from an agricultural to a light industrial designation to allow the construction of data centers, advanced manufacturing facilities, office space and other related uses. The proposal has been deferred three times this year at the developer's request to allow...Article LinkSupport the show
An Ireland South MEP candidate says it's a "cop out" to say the Common Agricultural Policy scheme can't be streamlined. Labour's Niamh Hourigan is calling for "overwhelming EU bureaucracy" around the CAP scheme to be reduced and claims red tape is damaging farmers' willingness to embrace a Just Transition. The European Commission has recently revealed proposals to simplify the scheme by giving farmers "greater flexibility when it comes to complying with certain environmental conditionalities". Hourigan insists the level of regulation must be reduced to avoid alienating farmers.
A proposal that would allow data centers, advanced manufacturing and other uses on a 622-acre site adjacent to the White Oak Technology Park in Sandston appears headed for its third deferral when the Henrico Planning Commission meets later this week. The White Oak Technology Park 2 proposal, from Richmond-based developer Hourigan, is scheduled to be heard at the March 14 Henrico Planning Commission meeting, but in a staff report, Henrico planners recommended that it be deferred for a third time in three months “to allow more time for the applicant to improve their request.” Hourigan last week requested that deferral,...Article LinkSupport the show
A conceptual plan submitted by the developer seeking to rezone 622 acres at the I-295/I-64 interchange in Sandston envisions the possibility of as many as 13 data centers on the prominent site, along with one area of utility infrastructure. Although the proposed M-1C light industrial (conditional) zoning classification sought for the site by Richmond-based developer Hourigan also would allow for advanced manufacturing and office usage – uses that the applicant previously indicated could take shape there – the plan showing only data centers was the only one it provided recently to county planning officials. Hourigan officials intend to call the...Article LinkSupport the show

Why are companies hesitant to embrace new digital trends? Digital agency leader Kevin Hourigan suggests doubts concerning digital trends stem from a non-trending digital marketplace. Many companies lack the confidence they once had due to an uncertain economy. But it's not only the economy that has business leaders pumping the brakes on newer trends. Want to find out more? Tune into this episode with Rise25 host Chad Franzen as he flips the script and interviews the President of Spinutech, Kevin Hourigan. Neasa Hourigan has developed a reputation as a hard-working, principled, and increasingly disruptive politician. The Green Party TD for Dublin Central is currently serving a 15-month suspension from the parliamentary party after voting against her government colleagues on the ending of the eviction ban – the latest in a series of vote rebellions by Hourigan. But she is determined to keep pursuing her political objectives, especially in relation to climate change and the environment. For her policy changes, Hourigan chose to ensure proper climate accounting for the private and public sector, to take a longer term view on state planning and development, and to limit the sizes of large multinational companies. For her personal changes. she proposed joining a union and looking after her mental health while working on climate issues.

Kevin Hourigan is the President and CEO of Spinutech, an agency that develops customized and data-driven digital marketing solutions. Before merging his business with his partner's, Kevin founded Bayshore Solutions in 1996 and ran it for over two decades, delivering websites and custom web applications to thousands of clients in over 54 countries. Kevin led Bayshore Solutions through growth and change to become a leading end-to-end digital agency that is Spinutech. Outside the office, Kevin enjoys hitting the open water on his boat, playing a round of golf, skiing, and just about any outdoor activity. In this episode… One of the unintended blessings of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the astronomic demand for digital solutions. With this demand comes the need to scale quickly, so companies are turning to digital agencies to help do that. Digital agencies themselves are merging to scale their service and provide clients with the right solutions. Unfortunately, navigating a merger is a pain in the neck for many agency owners. Having gone through a successful merger, Kevin Hourigan recommends putting your thoughts into three buckets that you must serve equally. The first step? Figure out what the merger means for your clients and how it's a win for them. Want to find out more? Please tune in to this episode of The Building BITE Podcast, as we hear from industry experts about key topics to help you be successful. The Building BITE hosts Valerie Bono and Mike Diercksen, CRIS, welcome Inga Mackereth, CPA, Corporate Insurance Manager at Hourigan Construction. Inga opens the show sharing her background in accounting and passion for taxes. Inga, a boomerang employee, joined Hourigan as a Project Administration, then left to join a small CPA firm. She returned to Hourigan, where she now leads as their Corporate Insurance Manager. She shares her role and Hourigan's approach to the current market environment, including their holistic approach to preconstruction, material tracking program through construction, and their educating of Owners to understand how the state of the market may impact schedules. At Hourigan, the team is a valued partner and trusted adviser to their Owners. They offer their Owners solutions so that they do not just weather the storm of supply chain disruptions but emerge better positioned. Inga shares her three lessons learned from the current state of the market, which includes: 1. Plan, Plan, Plan: No matter how many times we try, it is impossible to predict the future. Understanding your internal process and project goals thoroughly helps to streamline success and reduce miscommunication. When the challenges are understood, project teams are empowered to identify and remedy these issues with speed and precision. 2. Be Forward Thinking: Success is a mindset. A suggested method to reach that mindset is to challenge ourselves constantly to think critically and understand what challenges lie ahead. Inga states that “We always need to have someone in steps 5-10, and not just 1, 2,3. That way, when we look ahead and plan forward, we can try to eliminate those instances that happen that throw the project for a loop.” 3. Be a Leader and a Team Player: By enlisting the help of all parties involved, Inga shares how miscommunication can be avoided and ensure that proper expectations are set for both the project team and the owners. To learn more about these predictions through the lens of our expert, listen to our full podcast episode with Inga Mackereth, Navigating the Current Landscape of Supply Chain Disruption Through the Lens of a Corporate Insurance Manager.
